While the storyline was "school" based politics, which I'm not really into, i found myself constantly enjoying it. Of course, there's also the ridiculous yet surprisingly pleasant zhongji humour thrown in there. The addition of wuxia and fighting powers always add a nice touch, and there were so many aspects that kept me on the edge of my seat. While the acting wasn't the best, it's so nice to see such famous stars today collar together for this as this was during the time when most of them just started acting.
THE MUSIC IS INCREDIBLE. I have all the songs downloaded and constantly listen to them. There's such a variety, and it's perfect for every scene. The music is very dear to my heart, and I think this has the best soundtrack among all the zhongji instalments so far.
Like i said, it's 53 episodes, which took me a while to finish, so i be re-watching it, but trust me, i'll be watching and crying over fan mvs on youtube for the next few weeks (months, really).

This series wasn't an exception. I won't add anything new to my comment because other people have review it thoroughly. However, if someone was to read it, i would just say to them to give this drama a try. The high ratings, in this case, are totally justifiable and correct,in my opinion.
This drama gets a 10/10from me. The actors were brilliant, the script was excellent and i would totally and without hesitation recommend it to everyone.

Why this is preferable: TenTen's character here has higher EQ compared to other versions that although initially he was aloof, he wasn't cold and you catch many glimpses of him smiling because of Thaliw. And it was better scripted in terms of tying back to their history of being childhood friends and his first love. Thaliw's character was written in a way that shows although she is slow, but she isn't an airhead or blindly clingy. So it was more acceptable than other versions although I generally and usually don't like my heroine like this. Then there's the love that was simple and like they say it's not about compatibility or thinking with your head. It's all about the heart. The folded stars really threw me back a decade ago when I folded them for my boyfriend. Sweet reminders. Then there's the romantic settings. The scene under the willow tree with sparkling lights was my favorite. Very picturesque and beautiful.
Why only 8/10: unlike full house there's a lil too much screetime on unimportant charactwrs like NamKang who I didn't care to know. Then later on we have Nana. again wasting precious screetime. Episode 15,16,17,18 were forgettable, wallowing and I dislike ten tem immensely to the point I wanted to walk into my screen and shake some sense into him. Episode 19 was mostly sad. It wasnt until episode 20 when it redeemed itself. So in all about 5episodes that spoiled what could have been much better if they didn't show TenTen uncertain for so long.
Acting was a full marks. Like my review on Full House. Chemistry on Aom Mike always top notch. The character of King was great too and nicely acted. I'll miss seeing Aom and Mike since I watched their 2 dramas back to back. Here's hoping they will start filming season 2 soon.

I love love love the storyline and the acting. Daebak portrayal of such a smart and sophisticated ruler by my forever muse Ha Ji Won. Cant believe I am just watching it now, really.
only thing I dislike is the sad sad sad ending, but i guess it cant be helped. kinda saw it coming.
Overall, a very good saeguk! Super recommended! do not be discouraged by its 51 episodes and go watch it! <3

Would I rematch that one? Perhaps not, although it was relaxing and interesting viewing of the whole 16 episodes. Watch it, and judge it for yourself - that is my advice :)

This is still watchable, but when it comes to crimes, laws, the story has to be really tight. The twists in the story was pretty good, but I can only take so much "twisting" before I begin to just say, just get on with it... So, yes, I do have gripes about it but I have seen worst dramas.

The ghost story per episode didn't feel too filler to me personally. I enjoyed most of them since they were ways for the romance to develop. Some even had an emotional impact, others left a bit to be desired. There were quite a few flaws regarding the 'rules' about ghosts and their abilities, and the drama did confuse me at times because they weren't consistent. Let me ignore those flaws though! I purposely ignored those flaws and just accepted all the supernatural aspects of the drama as they were shown, which made my drama experience much better. I guess I also have to mention the rich boy, poor girl thing. Yes, you can say that the plot- on the shallowest level- is about that cliche but I think the drama builds off it with many layers.
Though I enjoyed the skinship from the very beginning, they didn't have an effect on me until a few episodes in since there wasn't enough emotional attachment. But when it finally hit me, bam! Wow, I became seriously invested. I love their relationship development so much. Whoops, did I say that already? I enjoyed seeing Joong Won's change as a person and how his sun, Gong Shil, continued to change him, bit by bit. His trust in her just kept growing and that was a pleasure to watch. Their relationship is the anchor of this drama. Without the strength and brightness of it, the drama would've fell apart.
I think if the main leads weren't Gong Hyo Jin and So Ji Sub, I wouldn't love this drama that much. They brought their characters to life and made them seem so realistic. Gong Hyo Jin, as usual, was amazingly touching. Her emotional depth through her character, Tae Gong Shil, sparked in each and every scene.
I liked the second leads. No vindictive second leads! It's always great when the second leads add fun scenes to the drama, and not detract from the drama. I really liked Secretary Kim; he was like the cupid representative of the viewers.
Lets talk about one of the main plot points: Joong Won's tragic past. Was that done well? I'm not sure to be honest. It was amped up for most of the drama, only to be hastily resolved in one episode. From the halfway point, though, I already began to disregard the plot lines and just try to go along with the story. After all, just focusing on their chemistry was must more enjoyable than trying to analyze patchy plot points.
The extension? Personally, I hated it at first because I thought Gong Shil's actions were off par with her character based on previous episodes. In retrospect, I guess I could understand why she did why she did so I can't call it noble idiocy. Nevertheless, I could've done without it, so episodes 13-16 felt like some unnecessary angst. The finale episode was done well though since it was extended, it wasn't rushed. I did like the metaphors integrated throughout the drama. In a way, they helped justify some of the Hong Sister's writing decisions, in my opinion. The metaphors also gave depth to the plot and also the the relationships. Overall, the drama came full circle at the end, so it wrapped up nicely.
The OST is amazing. Every song is perfect. Some songs are hauntingly chilling, others are emotionally touching. I even love the instrumental music, which isn't that often! Every song seamlessly fit in with the scenes.
I already started re-watching some scenes. I will definitely re-watch this. I recommend this for those who love romance like I do, and also isn't a stickler for supernatural 'rules' and how the supernatural world should and should not be. In the end, take don't Master's Sun's plot too seriously and you'll come to love what this drama offers.

There were many beautiful moments sprinkled throughout, and it deals with death and loss with such a deft and gentle hand, so I soldiered on, pushing myself to finish, and this drama clearly did Something right, because I was a sobbing mess the entire final 15 minutes.
That ending Wrecked Me.
I wouldn't put this drama on my list of favorite's. I wouldn't even put it on my list of 'definitely don't wish I could get any of that time spent watching it back.'
But there's something about this drama, even if I can't quite put my finger on it.

There really wasn't anything spectacular about the female cast, aside from them being really pretty. It might just be me and my pet peeve though, I don't find things believable if in my mind it seems too stupid for people to do - i.e the protagonists repetitively falling for similar, not-so-elaborate traps set up by the antagonists. I didn't like how the two main female roles ended up being weak (one completely manipulated, and the other completely powerless as a character, despite alleged "saint" abilities that she uses like once.) In that regard my distaste is more so directed at the character/plot design and not so much the actresses themselves, kind of like how in some movies a simple cellphone call would resolve the entire plot-line.
I did however especially like the casting of Bai Li Han (William Feng) - he has the deep, villainous voice that fits his role. Oh, and the male lead playing two different personalities was kind of cool too.
I'm a bit undecided on how I feel about the series as a whole. I thought the beginning was great, the plot development was good (up until a point) but the ending... a complete cop out. It's a fantasy world so it's open to interpretation, but if you follow the storyline you get to one conclusion; if you follow context clues, you get to another. (Pay attention to the appearance of the glowing flying fish - about as much as I can say without giving away my own interpretation of the ending)
Watch if you like fantasy/wuxia, skip if you don't.

The plot-line is pretty good, but they really should have stuck to the book this series was allegedly adapted from (the whole villain controlling villain thing got taken too far, got a bit draggy) but the ending leaves room for a season 2, so I'm excited and on board for it. I don't want to give anything away, but it's short enough that the draggy-ness of the series doesn't get annoying.
Since Wallace Huo is in this, it's pretty hard for me to notice other cast members - and I'm a straight guy. The man's incredible - minus the whole speaking Chinese to Americans and having them all understand perfectly bit. I will say that the female lead is a bit awkward at times, though.
The music choice can be cute at times - to demarcate the couple cute "eyebleach" moments scattered throughout the series to get your mind off the gruesome killings that happened just a couple minutes ago. Thriller/Psychological themes are also on point, when appropriate.
I wouldn't really rewatch it, since after watching it once the "whodunnit" kind of goes away, and the intrigue is gone. But absolutely worth watching, the first time.

The characters were written to take the most idiotic actions that could possibly be taken. The story makes no sense and only works because of plot armor.
The acting is just terrible. Characters either acted over the top and unnatural, or like they didn't even want to be there.
The music was pretty annoying. Whoever made the score didn't deserve to be paid for that.
Wouldn't watch again.

The drama is so funny, I laughed in the entire series. Not only that, the story is so deep, between family, friendship and love. I know many people didn't like the ending, but I love it, sooo much. I love that this story was similar from the reality. I don't have any other words to describe it except I love this drama so muuuch! ^^

The script was written very, very well! I liked the comedic tie-ins with sarcasm and wit, along with the heart wrenching moments of support, anger, happiness, heart break, worry, and success. The parts played by Chinen Yuri, Yamada Ryosuke, Arioka Daiki, Nakajima Yuto, and Kamiji Yusuke were possibly my favorite just because of their (personal) character, talent and skill, characteristics, personalities, and unique qualities! I did like the ending, but I also wish the ending could have been different. I don't know why, I just think it lacked a tiny little "something". Also, back to the characters, but... I liked Norito Yashima's characters in this order: Kenji Endo from the "Hero" series, Takasu Hisakimi from "Scrap Teacher", and Dracula from "Kaibutsu-kun". Granted, this is only based off three different series that I've seen him act in, but it's my opinion that his best acting is when he can be hilariously sarcastic and funny; he seemed to have a lot of good lines throughout this script!
This show is hilarious, sweet, stupidly funny, smart, and absolutely worth watching every minute!

They did almost every thing right. The 2 main ingredients for a good romantic drama in my book was done so well. First the two leads were so correctly cast. They have chemistry and there was an ease in their interactions. I truly see when Mike looks at Aom there's interest sometimes tenderness in his gaze. Either he's a great actor immersed in the character or he's quite taken with her in real life. Secondly the storyline puts focus on them. The entire series reserved most of the screen time for them. That means we see them interact a lot. They spend a lot of time communicating fighting quarreling doing mundane things to sight seeing and also cycling. In the process you witness how they got closer starts to understand each other and fall in love. So 2 beautiful ingredients brewed to a very enjoyable drama
So plotwise I do like how it deviated from the Korean version. We also get a lot of Korea in this drama . almost like selling Korea as tourist destination. Lol
Min was quite an annoying character but thankfully overall she wasn't overly featured compare to other versions. But be advised episode 16 to 18 were my least favorite. Meanwhile episode 19 is mostly flashback. If you've missed some of the cute and romantic scenes between Aom and Mike, you most likely will catch it in episode 19.
Of course not everything makes perfect sense, some clichés too but it didn't affect my viewing or enjoy a nice love story. I have to !mention I much prefer Mike's outfit here to Rain's . and Mike's character is better too. Cause early on wr already see he demonstrated a soft side to Aom. And they were on friendlier terms faster too. Their bickerings were mostly cute instead of hurtful. Aom's character is also a nice balance of cute and naivety but she's not clueless. In fact I found it admirable that once she realised her feelings she admitted it instead of lying to herself. So refreshing to see.
This review is getting lengthy but really there's lots to love in this drama for its simple take that's right up !y alley. So after this I'm jumping on to Kiss Me drama staring the same leads..
