Storywise, I thought Birth of a Beauty was gonna be similar to the korean movie 200 Pounds Beauty. While it is similar in some aspects, Birth of a Beauty takes its storyline above and beyond. I was expecting this to be a lighthearted drama, full of fluff to satisfy my craving, but it ended up being so much more. There were twists, it even got kinda dark. Sa Geum Ran is fat and ugly (even though i don't think she's ugly at all) and finds out that her husband Lee Kang Joon has been cheating on her. She ends up going to Han Tae Hee for help getting a full body plastic surgery, and if I say any more I'll totally spoil this drama. I know the plot sounds so shallow and superficial, as if BoaB is promoting plastic surgery, but i don't really think so. If you watch this drama and that's the only thing you walked away with, you've missed the whole point. BoaB is about discovering your true self and loving yourself completely for who you are. Sara/Sa Geum Ran is my favorite character in this drama, I love her even more than I love Han Tae Hee, and it really hurts me to see people calling this character stupid just because she acts like a normal human being. Anyways, I ended up rating the story a 9 because it wasn't the typical makeover/plastic surgery storyline I was expecting, and because it had to potential to be much greater.
Acting/Cast wise, it's a 10. I doubt I'm gonna get any arguments there. Cast was perfection. Han Ye Seul had chemistry with all of her male co-stars, that I actually shipped her with everyone! Jung Gyu Woon was such a sexy evil asshole, omg, he played that character with absolute swag. I loved everyone! Everyone suited there roles and did an excellent job at portraying their characters. Even that evil character Chae Yeon, played by Wang Ji Hye (no one else could have played her). I have no complaints in this department.
Music is absolutely perfect! The OST matched the drama soooooo perfectly. The music that they played when a scene was getting intense, or funny, or cute omg sooooo perfect. I'm just smiling recalling it all. I need to go download it. And, it's all catchy as hell. For the duration of this drama I kept singing the theme song lol. It was annoying to my sister, but i don't care, i loved it!
The rewatch value is a 9 for me. I was so obsessed with this drama at the beginning, I basically lived and breathed Birth of a Beauty. My every thought was about Birth of a Beauty. When I first started watching, I think there were only 5 or 6 eps out, I marathoned all of those, and then kept rewatching those eps until a new ep would come out. I loved this drama so much that I'd watch the raw version first, then I'd watch it subbed. I did all of this until about ep 14-16 (can't remember which ep). I started watching it raw again by ep 19-20, cuz that's when it started picking up again. See, the thing about Birth of a Beauty is that the first half of this drama was so powerful, that I don't think anyone was prepared for when the later episodes slowly started declining in quality (storywise). "Noble idiocy" played a major role, but all of that gets fixed by ep 18-19. Honestly, if you just understand the character's motivations, you'll be able to bear it. That's why I rated the rewatch value so high. This is definitely a drama I can see myself rewatching (I basically did).
Birth of a Beauty easily could have gotten a rating of 10 from me. Easily. But those later episodes messed it up. I base all my ratings off of my enjoyment, what emotions I walk away with and how strongly I feel them. It's hard to choose between a 9 or an 8.5, but thinking of how I rated all the other dramas I've seen, imma give it an 8.5. I enjoyed it immensely, but it wasn't perfect. It's actually the only drama in my all time favorite's list that I didn't give a 10. Hmm, funny. Anyways, I'd totally recommend this drama to everyone, but the sad truth is that I don't think it's everyone's cup of tea. But if you are in the mood for a rom-com, for a cutesy drama, I definitely definitely definitely recommend this drama. Oh, I forgot to mention the number one reason why I love this drama so much. IT SATISFIES MY NEED FOR REVENGE. The ending is very satisfying, granted it could have been way more satisfying, but satisfying nonetheless. I love this drama. I love it to the bottom core of my heart. Birth of a Beauty will always have a residence in my heart.

Yes I started the manga before the drama but dropped it after few chapters to focus on the drama. I don't normally watch Japanese so I didn't watch that version and glad i didn't. I hate comparing and I have it as a rule not to watch different versions of the same thing if I don't have the original to compare with. Anyhow the Korean Tomorrow's Cantabile was a lovely experience for me.
It was touching watching Cha Yoo Jin maturing and growing ; though I didn't like his personality till the end. Seol Nae Bal was too clumsy at the beginning; stayed clumsy but a bit less and I liked her honest and innocent self. Il Rak was a sweetheart; Go Gyeong Pyo is always is. Lee Yeon Ho was the scent of elegance for me. But the best thing about the drama was Franz; especially when he'd say: Baby.
The drive to succeed and the urge to dream is wherever and whenever touching to me and i'm so attached to Dream and ambition dramas. It'd have been great if i watched such dramas when i was in college. This drama and other similar ones help me update my dream list and recharge my energy.
The music was epic; every piece and every performance.

If you're looking for a cute rom-com that will have you smiling throughout while at the same time having you ready to pull your hair out in frustration but will keep you interested overall - this is it.
STORY - 7.0/10
I'll say it right off the bat - if you're looking for a drama with completely sound logic, this is not it. There are several lapses in logic throughout the drama, mainly the beginning but if you're like me and just going with the flow, it won't bother you very much. The story is full of k-drama clichés that again you'll need to ignore. Also, in my opinion, the drama dealt with the issue of plastic surgery and body appearance very lightheartedly so again, if you feel strongly about these issues, this may not be a drama you'd like.
However, there are many good points in the story from the main couple romance to the baddies whose hair you'll gladly be ready to pull out. The story blossoms beautifully, evolving from one point to the next with some speed bumps along the way. It keeps you hooked and interested especially in the first few episodes. There's also a lot of fluffy and adorable moments between the main couple.
ACTING/CAST - 9.0/10
This is the first time I've seen any of these actors and actresses (with the exception of the veteran actors) and I have to say, this cast was brilliant. I loved Joo Sang Wook to pieces in this. Han Ye Seul and he have wonderful chemistry that kept me enthralled from episode 1. Wang Ji Hye did her role as Chae Yun quite well since I don't think I've ever disliked a character so intensely. Jung Gyu Woon as Lee Kang Joon was very entertaining as well.
MUSIC - 8.0/10
The OST is actually quite good and the music throughout the drama was appropriate. I'm definitely downloading some of these songs.
REWATCH VALUE - 7.0/10
I'd definitely rewatch this drama someday (maybe sooner than I think) because I really enjoyed the romance and comedy plus the bit of hilarity and ridiculousness that came with it!
OVERALL - 9.0/10
I enjoyed this one immensely. If you like a drama with romance, comedy and fluffiness with a hint of revenge and k-drama craziness, you'd probably like this one.

* A very nice and cute adaptation of an extremely popular online novel on the classic theme of teen love and school life, but with a little twist.
* First episode kinda' sucks but bear with it - it gets good.
* Honest and expressive acting by the leads
* Cute score and Music
* I love it.
So, to the longer version;
Let me start by saying that I absolutely adore this series, I love, love, love, love, love it.
Secondly, I am very prone to fangirling and therefore get all crazed up and squealing over most BL.
So I am biased, but I'll try to be as objective as possible.
And the thing is, this is not even BL. This is just about teens.
The plot is the average teen-love-school set thing, nothing original there. High schoolers are in love, fight, break up, get together, are jealous, get drunk - yada yada, you know the deal...
But - there's a twist. The main protagonists are both guys.
Tadaah - the classic BL melodrama is set for action.
But the other twist is, that it isn't. Because this differs from the other stuff.
This is not about being gay, societal issues connected to it, or even catering to fangirls.
(Ok, a little bit, then.)
This is something a little bit different. All of us BL-crazed, know that most stories in the genre are angsty, sad and usually ends tragically - after we've cried our eyes out over the forbidden love.
In Love Sick - it's not angsty, not very sad at all, no forbidden love and the whole athmosphere is a positive and happy one. This isn't a story about two gay guys in love, it's just a story about two teens who fall in love. The gender is not all that important in this case, the air is accepting and happy-go-lucky and it's SO refreshing. I love that the focus is not all that much about the two lovebirds both being guys, but rather that the trouble around them is created from other obstacles, which are universal and not related to gender nor sexuality.
The series is based on a very popular Thai online novel called; Love Sick - The chaotic lives of Blue Shorts Guys (Chunlamoon noom kang keng namgern) and very well adapted from the novel, with the difference that the two protagonists Phun and Noh aren't the only focus in the series - as they are in the novel. In the series, their friends and classmates have gotten their own storylines.
Which, in all honesty, aren't all that interesting IMO, but one or two characters have the presence to make us want to know more about them. But some of the side stories are really boring, actually.
Due to the novel being published first, the series had a huge fanbase already before it started airing and the pressure was huge to make it work.
The first episode - didn't. It's really bad as a whole and some people tell you to skip it entirely. I don't agree since there are some stuff in the end that are relevant and also, it's a good episode to go back and watch later on, when one knows the characters a bit better. But don't give up just because you'll probably find the first episode boring and pretty bad!
It gets better soon, promise.
Most of the actors in the series (if not all?) are total newbies and have never done any acting before.
And that's one thing that really impresses me since I wouldn't have guessed that. The first couple of episodes were a little bit awkward in the acting, probably the actors were getting to know their characters and getting settled in them. The two main characters, Phun and Noh, are a bit clumsy - especially Captain Chonlathorn, who plays Noh, who tends to overact in the first eps. I would imagine that it might be a little bit awkward settling into a fairly physical role with another person of the same sex in front of a camera, especially as Captain, at the making of the series, was only 16 (!!!) years old (soon to be 17 as of right now) and White Boonserm who plays Phun, is only slightly older, being 18.
But the two leads catch up quickly and turn into brightly shining little stars.
It's not that the are making ground breaking, dramatic performances worthy of a ton of awards,
but rather that they are so believable that one is completely convinced of their characters and the relationship between them. Their acting is incredibly honest and natural and their eyes and facial expressions tell whole stories in themselves.
The chemistry between them is absolute awesome and shoots sparks.
Captain is like an Energizer Bunny, all over the place, but in a way that makes one smile and fall completely in love with him. White is more calm and composed but manages to portray Phun excellently. The other actors also do a fairly good job although no as shining.
The characters and their storyline is very faithful to the original story, which is good.
The novel isn't in any way explicit, but the series are even more innocent. A lot is left for the viewer's imagination and to read between the lines.
The score and music is cute and mostly very good IMO. A couple of songs from the soundtrack I like very much, like Captain's (yes, he sings too and rather well, actually) - Khor rong, which I think is great. I also like the title song - Shake.
All the music is light and cute and stay true to the feeling of the series.
For me, the rewatch value is huge - since I've already watched through the whole thing many times...
I'm completely hooked and very engaged in the series. I follow the novel obsessively, eagerly waiting for every chapter to be translated into English by the eminent Kuda Lakorn at kudalakorn.com , who also translates and subs the fansubs of the series.
Both the novel and the series are... floaty, bubbly, shiny and light. Positive and extremely refreshing and innocent in their storytelling.
I think that most young people who like romantic stories could find the series entertaining, whether they are BL fans or not.
The series is not a masterpiece, but I will gladly rate it as an 8 overall - because I really, really love it and it has so many positive sides to it, even though it's not in any way a heavy weight.
Engaging, endearing and enjoyable are probably the keywords.
Season 2 is scheduled to air the 25;th of april 2015 - I will be benched, waiting for the translation!

Suzuki was gorgeous and I get now when men write and say she's a MILF. :P Yup, no doubt she is. :P She is a fantastic actress and I love her from before in other dramas but in this one she simply shined with her personality, looks and sex appeal. Rui is one strong, confident, smart woman who didn't let emotions got in her way but of course everything fell apart and her guard was put down when Ko appeared. She is a woman who loved for her work, she is divorced and she experienced a married life, she even got a child from that married life (on top of that her child is played by amazing Ayano Go who was such a plus in this drama with his wild, rebel personality and his unique, weird sense of style and fashion, a young man who simply didn't do anything in his life aside from playing in some band for fun and taking money from his mother). But she chose career as something most important in her life at that time and she haven't felt regretful about that. Anyway from that angle her character is a very respectful and admirable one.
As for Hasegawa Hiroki, he was HOT and ATTRACTIVE LIKE CRAZY, I don't know how to put into words his expressions when he was with her, his glances, his stares, look in his eyes, his gestures, it was a mind blowing, seriously I literally felt his eyes on me. ;) Naughty naughty but yeah the main genre of this drama is romance so from that angle it was a successful one. The sparkles between them were flying all over the place, in every scene when they were together it was so impossible not to feel all those emotions and attraction, so rare to see that nowdays. And you have to take in consideration that age gap between the actors is 11 years which is also a plus more in here, you didn't feel that not for a second.
Both of the leads are a respectful people In their work and their respective jobs of publishing and stock trading play an important role in the story and contribute to the tension besides the usual plot devices for affair dramas. I like that part about their professional career, the whole show was so real with problems on their work, on solving them and although this drama is a romance one with affair going on, that wasn't the only thing and that's why I enjoyed in watching, you get to see every day problems and their daily life at work. And dialogs were written very good, whole screenplay was an intelligent one which is something very very important in dramas.
What I didn't like is his wife Marie, she was one big evil bitch, manipulative one with many complex in her life, she was a typical housewife who didn't do anything in her life except of satisfying her husband and depending on him about every little thing, soooo boring and stupid, I mean where is your life, your hobbies, your time and freedom?! Anyway she was the most awful person in this drama and a main culprit for everything. In the last episode maybe someone would or could somehow understand her but I simply didn't want that because she didn't deserve nor pity nor understanding. At least in my opinion.
Also I find the pacing really fast and just when you think a plot device is too cliched, it quickly moves on. But I didn't like that, I do love more slow pace in these kind of dramas with details, much more story and character development, somehow in historical dramas a fast pace is much more logical but in this one a big no for me. It's like I almost got to use to particular happening, dialog and scene and in the next moment it's one year later. That doesn't work for me.
Oh and the music was fantastic with such a beautiful melody, some tones reminded me of Secret Garden's music and the main song sang by Koda Kumi "Anata dake ga" graved in my heart and I'm still playing a song in my mind.
Overall I liked this drama a lot with its darkness and that old J drama feel, I liked the screenplay, the acting was brilliant from the two main leads, as for the characters I didn't like any of them cause all of them were hungry for power, money or some other things, too much selfishness and emotionless but that is why I found this drama to be different and not an ordinary one. I do recommend it to people who love mature, dark, serious plot and story with great chemistry and some real passion and who don't mind not happy and fluffy endings.
With all its flaws and this show does have them pretty much, I've enjoyed and it was my guilty pleasure.

I liked the part where every one had their different secrets throughout the series.
Yoo In Na is so cuuuuute! and I love Jin Yi Han! His reactions to Yoo In Na's cuteness is so adorable, they make me want to melt!
Everytime Jin Yi Han is crying in an episode idk why but I also find myself tearing up. I love the fact that he is sincere and still persevers and fights for his love.
The OST is very good. I love the OST eventhough I don't know what the lyrics mean.

The cast gets a 10. They acted their roles well. Can't blame them for the story or direction.

Granted the producers were targeting an older more mature audience (late twenties into thirties) and I don't fall into that category just yet, it still doesn't excuse the fact that the story had no backbone or any redeeming qualities and that it was one of those dramas where you think to yourself "that wouldn't happen in real life" in every single episode.
The characters are all over the place most (if not all) of them are people whom I would never want to be associated with if they were real. Like I said earlier 90% of them are spiteful and the last 10% are so cringeworthy that on multiple occasions I felt like punching my computer screen.
This drama is so awful you have to watch it for yourself to understand just what a piece of garbage it is. I am amazed I was able to make it to episode 13 because after episode 2 it is a downhill spiral of boring delusional slop!

There was not only love but showed the value of friendship, specially in Ep18 & the love of mother specially in Ep19 & the love of the couple specially in 9,10,12,18, & 20... It was superb...!!
There was only one kiss in the whole drama but the love between Woohyun & Seaulbi fulfills for many kisses & i guess that it should be enough since they were high school students..
And when we coming to acting, I guess Nam Woohyun can reach to 'the best romantic actor' title.. Because his acting was soo real and cute to watch, And he is a cool guy!!
And Kim Sae Ron, she has got a talent.. Beacuse for her age, it was soo realstic... And she acted soo well.. She also deserves a 'Best young romantic actress' title..!!
And eventually both of them were such a cute couple.. I wish for a part two for this story under the same casts or the couple act another romantic drama..
Finally, I hope they become the real couple!!
All the best for both of them to have a great future ahead!!!

I think this drama is one to be remembered. I wanted to cry so many times, but did not until the end. In the last 2 minutes of the show (end of it) I cried crocodile tears.... I also rewatched the last scene many times.
Watching this drama made me very sad, yet satisfied too. How love conquers all even during the hardest times and destiny playing a huge role in it makes this drama one of my favorite to watch.
I want to rewatch it, but i'm afraid, if I do.... I would cry all the time during it. I might be not ready for it as this kdrama is so beautifully composed. No wonder, Winter Sonata is loved by so many..... I totally agree... If you are ready for a sad and breathtaking story, this one should not be neglected.
(watch it on dramafever or Yidio)

Nine: Nove Vezes Viajante do Tempo

While time traveling is nothing new in the drama world, it can often be a tricky topic to deal with and deliver well. Nine, however, does a great job providing a well written story that incorporates a fresh take on time traveling. In this drama, our lead encounters a way to travel to the past. What is the catch though? There is a limited number of trips he can take, a set amount of time he can spend there and a precise time/location he can travel to - exactly 20 years ago at his current location.Despite a few predictable parts, there were enough twists and turns that kept me thoroughly entertained and wanting to watch on. This drama does an excellent job in illustrating the effects of time traveling. I really enjoyed the parallelism in time and the use of the split screens to demonstrate how just one change in the past continuously springs new actions from characters which ultimately changes the future. It was interesting to watch history rewriting itself into present time, day by day, second by second.
Yes, as you probably have already heard or read about, this drama does have an open ending. But, I found it to be a well written one. I would explain more about why I like it but I don’t want to give away any unintentional spoilers so I will just leave it at that. I will say that the ending provides enough closure while leaving the rest up for viewers to decide on their own. While I don’t think the additional scene at the very end was necessary, it does spark more questions and forces you to think a bit more.
I was unfamiliar with the cast prior to this drama but I did find myself enjoying Lee Jin Wook’s performance as our lead. As far as music goes, I didn't really notice it. Nothing was really memorable. Thus for me, it was neither good nor bad.
In short, why watch Nine? -- It’s time traveling done right (or at least as close as can be).

The thing is: a good drama for me doesn't need to be filled with moments that will make you suffer with the characters and it can't be that foreseeable. And You're Beautiful it's just this. You can fully understand the depth of the characters within some episodes, and if you try to take a guess on what they will do next, probably you'll be right.
There's no need to keep hammering a single point in the story, and still, they do this all the time. At one point, I got tired of gritting my teeth and screaming to the screen, cause I had already seen what was happening another billion times. It's repetitive, and even though I've kept rooting for one specific character, I knew since the beginning he wasn't going to get the ending I wanted, because, once again, the story is foreseeable.
The plot was a good one to work with - it never was supposed to be a deep story, but it could be better than what we had. The drama could be finished with only ten episodes, excluding unnecessary and dull interactions between the characters and mysteries that aren't really that mysterious. The music is ok, the few tracks we have are good, but I find myself really annoyed by the fact that, one, it seems like we only have five songs along the whole drama (and three of them are different versions of the same track), and two, why do they put such a tense instrumental in moments that doesn't have the need to it?
The best point for me is the acting - all the actors besides Park Shin Hye did a fairly good job. I kept wondering, why does she represents like this in this drama? I mean, Heartstrings was ok, Heirs too, and Pinocchio is her best drama without doubts, but her acting in You Are Beautiful annoys me so much. I don't find it cute, neither funny, nor girly. It's just annoying and the scenes I liked the most were the ones she wasn't trying so hard (episode 12, the greenhouse part, is one of my very few examples). Maybe she matured since then, and for me this one is her worst drama.
I can't say the drama isn't funny. It was one of the few things that saved it for me. I laughed so hard in some parts that it wasn't all lost. And if I ignored the existence of two of the three main male characters while Go Minam was interacting with one of them, I could go through the scene without any unneeded anger. It was silly, and sometimes fun, but not my piece of cake.
All in all, I would never rewatch it, but if you like silly thingies (and amorous triangles), if you're bored and want something to entertain yourself a little bit (only until the very first cringeworthy moment), you may want to give You Are Beautiful a try.
