Ugh.. i am ashamed that i have rated other k-drama with high points, but when i watch this drama, it just surpassed all my imagination. I Couldn't believe that a TV series could this damn good that i need to edit all my ratings for other k-dramas (i was too generous for ratings), now i have edited all other k-drama ratings after i watched this one coz this one is definitely an 11 out of 10!
i highly recommend this drama, of course, but again, be careful , the feeling while watching other drama will not be the same again.
From the beginning, the story is already strong, my emotion is like mixed together. I feel really sad without being manipulated, true from the bottom of my heart. When i feel angry, i also feel so angry, i cannot control my emotion when i watch this, there is no break at all, everything is so tense until my brain want to explode. My heart pain when i watch the story about detective park's brother. This is really a beautiful drama. :,)

Story:
I'm not usually keen on music themed dramas - but I guess I was feeling spontaneous! At times, for me, the story was boring. I feel like it was very repetitive and never really surprised me, or got me in the feels! I liked the idea of highlighting how being good at something doesn't mean you're passionate about it, but unfortunately as far as the story goes, it was very generic.
The characters themselves were honestly quite likeable. The main characters really did begin to get on my nerves, but I found most of the other characters to be likeable in their own way.
Acting:
I think for a majority of the actors, this was the first drama I've seen them in! I think the acting was brilliant, I felt as though they portrayed their characters well. As I mentioned before, the main character's did get on my nerves a little, but I feel as though that was their character design, and not the actors' fault. I look forward to seeing them all in different roles when I watch more of their dramas!
Music:
In terms of my personal taste, I didn't enjoy the music that much, however in terms of appropriateness, the music fit well for the drama themes and genre.
Rewatch Value:
I honestly can't see myself rewatching this drama. It was enjoyable for the most part, however it lacks plot twists and a unique story line. I don't see the point of rewatching it when I can find other dramas with a similar plot.
Despite it being a very generic story, I did find it enjoyable and did finish all the episodes! If you like music, or like the specific actors, I'd say give the first few episodes a go, and if you like them, then you like them, and if you don't well... you don't!

The main leads were so awesmazing in portraying their roles. You can be hooked to the drama right away- you just have to think like you were in late 2000s to feel the essence of the drama. The balance of the emotions of the drama is perfect!
I never seen the Japanese and Korean versions and also the manga, so you have to be the judge
Nothing can trumple the original drama!
Sorry I prefer Taiwanese and a little bit Chinese dramas

It isn't a really unique story that no one could ever think of. But the entire flow of the drama was perfect. Instead of the entire skeleton of the story, it was the little details that made this a success. The script was just great. The scrabbles and conversation with all the different characters was done so well, it really brought out the personality of each character in DOTS. I love how each character have a story behind them, and how they show the developments in the characters. Furthermore the relationship developments were also done incredibly well. Not just the leads but also the bromance between the guys and also the friendship with the girls, and all were all done so well, you just can't help but fall in love with each and everyone of them. So all in all, the writers were INTRICATE. Its not something out of the world, but the story will really tug your heartstrings with the little minor details that help bring this story to life.
Another factor that brought it to life were the actors. Song Joong Ki was fantastic. (And I'm not just referring about his looks) It was obvious he put lots of thought into his character throughout the entire show. There were countless of times I am awed by his facial expressions in the scenes. He portrayed YSJ so well I really can't think of another actor to play this role. He was able to perfectly bring out the manly, fearless side of YSJ, the boyish side and the thoughtful and meticulous side of him which was amazing. At one point you will swoon in his manliness and right after you will just giggle at the cute side of him which I think is what YSJ is about. Song Hye Kyo was amazing too. Her crying scenes were so well done that I really could put myself in her shoes and dilemmas and also, cry with her. She was able to portray the empathetic side of KMY, yet she is brave and witty unlike other drama leads. She was able to show us her goofy side and also her worries which I thought was also a huge feat.
The second couple was also unique in their own way. Jin Goo really managed the 'rigid' soldier image really well, yet also show his feelings with his eyes and slight body movements that you can't help but feel for him. Kim Ji Won was great with her emotional scenes while MyungJu was like a little porcupine, you could see that little sweet girl in her.
Nothing to complain about the music as well. It's just incredible.
So to sum it up, SJK's looks might be why everyone first knew about the show, but DOTS have so much more to offer. The script, the relationships and the acting were all done so superbly well that its just a show everyone should watch. Not only focusing on the love lines, but this drama also shows how serious the characters are at their jobs, their determination and also their principles which I think sets this drama different from others. AND LASTLY, THE SCENES ARE ALL SO BEAUTIFUL, THANKYOU CREW FOR SHOWING ME 16 HOURS OF BEAUTIFUL STUFF.
HEHEH. And thanks for taking your time to read this :)

I've seen people on the internet that really liked the series but maybe it wasn't for me.
I even thought of another flow for the story. Lol

I instantly fell in love with this drama like others have. Now I was iffy about watching a drama because I had never watched a drama from anywhere before. I didn't regret my choice to watch it though, I was pulled in by the storyline at first (Didn't know a lot of the parts I loved were K-drama cliches when I first watched it)
All the characters were well acted, though I do think Shin Hye's character was a bit too weak.
All the characters were believable honestly and I did find myself having a hard time choosing who I liked amongst the guys, I really liked all of them, though I'll gladly take shin woo out of all three.
It took me on an emotional roller coaster it had me crying in sadness, pity and happiness. it had me wanting to jump through the screen and punch the characters a couple times but.. most importantly it made me feel happy, it made me laugh and smile.
Watching this drama the characters became very close to my heart.
I got so absorbed in it the characters felt real in my heart so once it ended it was like I just had four amazing quirky sweet best friends taken away from me. So it hurt that it ended but I still really loved the ending.
The Music suited the scenes unlike some of the other dramas I've watched. It wasn't too repetitive, wasn't too quiet, wasn't too loud, it was just right.
I can rewatch it over and over and get the same amount of enjoyment out of it.
You know how things from your childhood you remember them feeling so magical and happy like something wonderful that can never be touched never be destroyed or soiled by human hands?
You're beautiful is like that, atleast to me. I hope it will be to you too.
So I think you all should give it a chance.
You're beautiful is well.. beautiful!

The story was not something promising. Take your typical jerky singer, a talented but poor girl, a rich and nice guy as the second lead, and a flat marionette-second-female-lead, and you get Trot Lovers. As I said, nothing new, but the first episodes were really enjoyable, I laughed a lot, and I could feel the chemistry between the leads, so it was bearable. At some certain points, my heart fluttered when the leads were close, so I thought that this drama will go up in my top.
But as the clichees came, the story was ruined, so it became kind of hard to watch... The producers wanted to approach many subjects, but they started them and they either never finished them, or left them unclear.
On the other side, the cast was great. I really liked Ji Hyun Woo as Joon Hyun, and Jung Eun Ji as Choi Chun Hee. I have never heard of her before, but I really loved both the actress and her character. Also, her voice is amazing, and I really enjoyed the times when she performed. Shin Sung Rok was amazing, he really is a great actor. I have seen him in You Who Came From The Stars, as the psycho brother, and I really hated his character. Here, as well, he sold his character very well., Also, how could I not mention the bromance moments? Lee Se Young was just... flat. I felt sorry for her character at some points, but neither the acting nor the character caught me. Yoo Eun Mi was the cherry on the cake, I really loved her character, and I was so happy to see her! She made me keep watching the drama lol. Also, I really liked Tae Song and Pil Nyeo. Great cast!
About the music... I really liked when they sang, those were some great moments, but the OST didn't really catch me, it felt... poorly made.
Rewatch value? No, I won't rewatch this drama.
Overall, I gave it a 6. I couldn't decide between 5 and 6, but I gave it an extra point for the cast! :)
If you want to watch a drama full of clichees, which becomes overly dramatic, you can watch this. But if you want to watch a drama that brings something new, something well-done, keep searching, this may not be the drama you are looking for.

Story: 10/10
At first when I saw the summary, I was skeptical about good the drama would be. I mean it is described as every other crazy revenge plot where the guy falls in love and suddenly all that he knows is tossed away. I started watching it because I was desperate for a new drama... Believe me when I say I was pleasantly surprised. There are twists and turns and the writers tried their best to keep the viewer guessing. You know those stereotypical moments where every kind of K-drama cliche is used? I was glad to say that there weren't too many of those. The second lead couple(s) were adorable when they weren't too irritating. Lastly, the female lead was not that usual bumbling naive idiot (thank the lords). Towards the end, there were a couple of episodes where you don't see her much but that is easily justifiable by the plot twists.
Acting: 9.5/10
I remember once some actor in an interview said that the movie is only as good as its villain. In this story, there are many bad guys- not villains per se- and guys that seem good but are kind of bad but still good but you still hate them a bit. But all of them were amazing. The actors seemed borderline cherry picked and the roles suited them perfectly. The only problematic one was Lee Minho for me, simply because sometimes he just wasn't convincing enough. Yes, I am nitpicking but somehow at the end of the drama, he was the only one who just didn't leave that bid an impression on me. His "father" on the other hand? Flawless! There were times when I was scared of him and I was seeing him from the safety of the screen. Gold help those who piss him off in real life- his glare alone could probably make you piss your pants.
Music: 9/10
Unlike Healer or I'll Remember You- this drama didn't seem to have that impressive music- you know the kind that you download and listen to on repeat? BUT the music that was used suited the mood perfectly; so much so that it seemed natural, as though if the scene happened in real life, it would make sense if it was playing in the background. Perhaps that also was its only flaw. It blended into the scened a bit too much.
Rewatch Value: 10/10
It would be perfect if we could simply forget the first time that we saw the drama and watch it again with the same kind of curiosity because that does make this drama more thrilling. Even so, the drama has the potential to be watched on repeat and the viewer still wouldn't get bored.
Overall I think that it is the kind of show that you should watch at least ones. The politics and themes of revenge, love (familial and romantic) and both amazingly fantastical and bone-chillingly realistic. Makes you wonder what your government might be hiding from you.

The cast is brilliant here as well. Basically everyone is amazing. Lee Min Ho seems like he has a lot of experience working out the 'likable jerk' archetype, because he nails it here. I called him a moron so many times during the watch and yet found myself loving him and rooting for him all the same.
Park Min Young is divine perfection as always and continues her place in my Top 5 Kdrama Actresses list. Lee Joon Hyuk is probably the best raw actor in this show, and Kim Sang Joon has the sort of charisma you want in a good villain, despite having literally one facial expression for the entire 20-episode run. But even the Supporting characters shone here, foremost among them being Kang Jin Sung, whose voice is like the most beautiful music, and Kim Sang Ho, who proved here that ugly can still be oddly attractive.
Honorable Cast Mentions:
- Chun Ho Jin and his 'intense eyes' should always be in every drama.
- Hwang Sun Hee can't really act well, but she's extremely good at being more beautiful than everyone, so props to her.
- Gu Ha Ra was born to her role here. I never got tired of her immature antics and that bouncy, youthful movement that always sent her too-perfect hair flapping this way and that. Simultaneously annoying and endearing, I always smiled when she was on camera.
- Choi Jung Woo embodies his characters better than most Korean actors. He has more range than you would you think at first glance.
Now, all that being said, unfortunately, despite its amazing cast, the story of City Hunter is ultimately a letdown and makes it a candidate for my Most Overrated Drama.
From a writing standpoint, the first half of the show is a paradise of interesting character moments and interactions. The characters grow, you fall in love with them, you root for them, you laugh and cry along with them, the way every good drama does. In particular, there is one scene where Park Min Young starts crying in the middle of a sentence without showing any other facial indications of sadness. She is fighting to be reasonable, dispassionate, selfless, and brave. Her voice is clear and strong and nary a quiver is to be found in her lips. And yet the tears betray her. It's a powerfully acted sequence that takes you by the heart and screams 'LOVE ME!'
However, the further you get into the back half of this drama, the more disconnected it becomes from anything relatable. All the character build-up you were invested in? Almost completely gone. The intriguing hero? A veritable wellspring of idiotic and inexplicable decisions, especially in connection with the heroine. The likable side characters? Either disappeared or killed off for no reason. The heroine? Used almost exclusively for reaction shots. All of this culminating into one of the most lackluster endings I've yet to experience in a drama. It did a couple interesting things, for sure, but for the most part the final episode just felt like a normal episode and the resolutions were either rushed into unimportance or simply nonexistent. So many story threads simply left dangling. And for what? Longer and more numerous reaction shots, yelling of character names, and oft-repeated plot points. The main plot of the show is well-written and compelling, but the characters are all but abandoned towards the end, which is inexcusable.
Basically, if you want some great action, awesome acting, and a handful of laughs and warm fuzzies, you'll get them from this show. If you want satisfying resolution and characters that do stuff that makes sense, you'll be disappointed. It's a show everyone should see, but not a show that everyone will love.

A very touching story of a young talented and kind hearted girl who never give up even when she is in the most difficult situation. Her believe of staying positive and never give up motivated herself to achieve her dreams. She work all the way up to become the only lady who can attend the parliament which are occupied by males in the olden days. She is the 1st Lady Prime Minister.
She was salute and respected by all with her kindness, intelligence, achievement and business talent both in pottery and silk creation which make China proud today. Lu Zhen love story was very touching and never smooth as she in love with the King. She never give up even in the worst situation.
The actress Zhao Li Ying acting in this drama is very good and I started to watch her drama since. This drama was voted best in year 2013. All the cast acting are good, beautiful scenery and colourful costumes. No wonder the rating is so high.
I have rewatch this drama 2 times and I still rewatch whenever I need positive energy to motivate myself.
