Five red-headed ghosts visited Jackie Chan in Spiritual Kung Fu. In this kung fu flick there wasn’t just one secret kung fu book, there were two!Long Yi Lang is the dull, mischievous, often bordering on unlikeable, student at the shaolin temple. One night a thief sneaks into the temple and steals the forbidden Seven Deadly Fists book. The Luk family took it in their plan for revenge against the monks for preventing the father from becoming the Wu Lin leader a decade before. Using the techniques in the secret book, the Luk son will be able to eliminate the competition and gain the leadership role. The only counter to the Seven Deadly Fists style is the Five Style Fists and that book has been lost. Right on cue, a sparkler from heaven crashes into the temple library depositing 5 red-headed ghosts who just happen to reveal where the Five Styles secret book is hidden and begin training Yi Lang in Dragon, Snake, Tiger, Crane, and Leopard styles. Meanwhile, the Luk son studies his book and begins killing off his competition. The inevitable duel between the two men will determine whether 7 is greater than 5 in a kung fu battle.
Jackie Chan’s Yi Lang was more irritating than funny or endearing. When the fights started in earnest, the mugging for the camera and whining finally stopped. James Tien often played a bad guy as he did in this film. Dean Shek and Wong Ching both played comic relief buddies to the two fighters. Wu Wen Siu had the rather thankless job of being the only female in the cast but made the most of it when fighting Jackie and James. I deducted points for the spanking scene she had to endure that detracted from the film for me.
The beginning of the film was slow and the humor decidedly low brow. One low point was when Jackie was putting live frogs and an eel into his pants. Some of the characters integral to the first half of the story all but disappeared during the second half. Maybe they had to rush to do another kung fu movie being filmed. The movie improved when the ghosts dropped into the temple and shook things up. They were funny but the first encounters with them became repetitious as if the director needed them to fill time, especially when he resorted to fart and urination jokes. Jackie choreographed the fights. They weren’t as slow as some of his earlier efforts, but were still indicative of the time and nothing like his more inventive fights he would create later on. It took nearly half the movie to begin the fighting. The pole fights were interesting when he had to fight the 18 Lohans though like the ghost scenes went on too long. Jackie and James’ duel was entertaining as was the fight with the secret Luk father, which didn’t take a genius to figure out early on. Jackie showed off the five styles with a minimum of wire and trampoline work.
Once the training and fighting began, I started to enjoy this film. The clownish mute ghosts in their tutus were low tech but their antics were engaging most of the time. When watching an older Jackie Chan film like this one, it helps to remember that this was near the beginning of his starring roles and his comedy and fight choreography would evolve.

Very educational, relatable and relistic
I live in South East Asia. Online bet, illegal online loans, love scams you name it, is an occurring problems an epidemic that really wreck havoc in many household. Like in this movie they showed an guy from an upper middle class, very well educated but got an online gambling problem. Meanwhile in my country this online betting disease is targeting lower class, this movie trying to say that online gambling will targeting at everyone regardless their economic background or social background. What's insane is that, China have a very strict internet control and online betting, scamming is still happening in the country. Imagine where the internet is not so regulated. Boom an epidemic. Also some of the workers who went to work in those "factory" are also victims of human trafficking. Some were aware that they're going to work in that kind of place because they have no other choice for work. Very sad.If you say this is a chinese propaganda kind of movie. I mean, the Chinese police really did and go to SEA to get these workers. It's all over the news.
The acting are sooo good.
Many people should watch this for educational purposes and awareness.

In my opinion, the film is not quite a typical representative of the production of Pinoy gay films and it is mainly dominated by Topher Barreto (Cris). Not even the famous "nudity" here except for one scene near the end. A picture with a stronger story did not leave me completely cold, but the big shortcoming for me is the bad copy of the film and the unavailability of English subtitles ...

The film is not only from the gay area, Melissa Mendez is constantly shaking her tits, at first you will have to wait a long time for some plot, and mainly what bothered me about this processing was that everything was "just like" (the boy washes himself with a cup of water, including his hair, and doesn't actually wash it, the fight of the guys is just an embarrassing farce and I could go on).
Despite the fact that the story of the film is still good and I was a little interested, the other components of the evaluation are quite weak for me and I rather do not recommend the film ..

The gay component here is indeed prominent, but in my opinion it is only a means to the film's story, however, played no less well by both protagonists Mark and Noel (John Lloyd Cruz - he collected several film awards for this role).

Although these films are enough for one "brdo" (usually the content in various variants is the sale of the bodies of the main characters to men and women in order to improve themselves), but Pipo in particular unintentionally negatively impressed me that even in the 21st century people can live in such lairs on puddles of dirty water full of garbage. I give the film a slightly above-average grade from the point of view of a Pinoy viewer.

2/10 - Dropped, disappointed. The Movie wasn´t so well implemented. I liked the Couple and the Kiss in the water was good. The Ending was happyending.
The Movie had a lot of potential!! So much more could have been made of it so it was rather disappointing.
Thats it.

First of all, I was very interested in the story, a story based on the real events of Walter Dempter/Walterina Markova, and of course I watched from the perspective of an Asian viewer, because on other continents the story would probably be filmed differently.
Yes, the world of homosexuals for the entire timeline it depicts is portrayed in a feminine way, but it probably couldn't have been otherwise, a non-feminine gay would probably not have survived in those days of Japanese wartime rule. And it's shot less drastically than the reality probably was, probably with not only the Filipino viewer in mind.
The role of the "old" Walterina is played by Dolphy Quizon (unfortunately deceased today), and the interesting thing is that the roles of the younger and youthful Walterina are played by his sons Eric (we know him from the film Pusong Mamon mentioned here) and Jeffrey (he played the most and very well.. .). It is also interesting that the "old" Walterina enters some of the war scenes physically, as if in memories, as if she wanted to change the unfavorable fate.
Maybe someone will say, this type of nonsense, Asian bullshit, why is someone writing about it so long here, but the depth of the picture, at least for me and my interest in it, was satisfied today.

Simply put, Joel Lamangan is, in my opinion, one of the best Filipino directors of LGBT films, and it was confirmed here as well.
Of course not top notch from a European point of view, but it was goofy fun, with nice people, punctuated by songs.
Although it could happen that this movie is complete bullshit, stupid, "something" breathed on me, as if I swallowed the stone too, I rose above everything and enjoyed it too. Such a partial parody of American B and C films.

Death Kappa attempted to be a combination of parody and homage to Kaiju movies of old. What I discovered was that 56 years before this film was made, Honda Ishiro made a more believable world using miniatures and a guy in a monster rubber suit.Kanako returns home after a failed attempt at becoming a Jpop star. Her grandmother’s dying wish is for her to protect Kappa, the local Yokai. It just so happens the Kappa has awakened and enjoys Kanako’s music and the cucumbers she leaves out for him. Dancing with the turtlish Yokai, how sweet! But wait! In the same area, a crazed scientist has been creating super soldiers by combining men and women with Kappa DNA. Before you know it, body parts are flying when they go on a tear. Kanako and the Kappa end up in the bad guys’ lair and within minutes bullets are flying and a nuclear bomb is set off. Cut to a local downtown where Kaiju Hangyolas is destroying the city and killing people with his stomping power and flame flowing breath. What is Hangyolas and where did he come from? Was he created from the radiation from the explosion? The world may never know. When all seems lost a super-sized irradiated Kappa arrives and it is on like Donkey Kong.
This film injected campy humor into the death and mayhem. Dolls were flattened, melted, and blown up. Godzilla era vintage planes on wires made an appearance, showing more wires than were necessary. The town was quite artificial making it obvious everyone was on a soundstage.
The first half of the film was filled with Yokai dancing and cucumber eating which devolved into militaristic soldiers bent on conquering the United States with mutant ninja turtle warriors and an atomic bomb. It also had a character who might have been practicing necrophilia. The acting and production values were average at best, with much of the acting being over the top. After the blast, the film took a hard right and focused on a Kaiju WWE throw down complete with a volleyball match. The inept and powerless humans found their “savior” was far more lethal than the initial destroyer. If only Kanaka had survived the nuclear blast! Death Kappa put the fever in fever dream, truly one of the more bizarre Kaiju films I’ve seen.
