Primeiro, o retorno do Lee Eun Hyeok.

Terceiro, o vilão no corpo do Pyeon Sang Uk.

What did I just watch?

I was very excited to watch this season as it has been a long wait, but after binging it the entire day it ended with a very unsatisfying ending.

I'm happy that the ending was a happy one even though a lot of characters died for absolute no reason, the main trio did deserve their happy ending together. That's also where the problem lays within this season, I feel like only the trio got their happy ending and all the characters from the first season which we loved very much, had a sad ending for no reason.

In this review there will be a lot of bad points but the story also had some good points: surprisingly it was fast paced, each episode flew by, literally. The acting was also good, especially how Eun-yu's and Yi-Kyung's characters had been played out but then there were also characters that felt a bit monotone. I'm sure there's more but the bad points, for me, are the ones that weighed more than the good ones.

First of all, why is Eun-hyeok a robot?
In the first season he was also kind of a robot with no emotions as he only wanted his sister to be safe and then at the end, we finally see him crack a real smile and even tears! I had hoped to see him again with a bit of more character development but it actually got worse... we also didn't get to see his process of monsterization, only the end product . He was the only character I was so excited to see again but he basically didn't have any personality which was very unfortunate.

Second, lots of characters in the second season were added which was a bit complicated to understand at first but it's normal since the season 1- crew step outside into the open world. It's normal to meet new characters and it's also normal that some of the characters just exist and others actually have a purpose but I feel like almost every single new character that had a bit of potential just died off or just wasn't worth a few more scenes...
For example, we get introduced to Chief Ji, the lady who was in charge at the stadium before the army arrived. She is very mysterious and seems to be a badass character but in the end she's just a coward who feeds her monster son humans and because of the guilt decided to end it.
Another one is the priest, he acts very calm and had potential to actually become someone important but in the end ran off searching for the crazy lady to end up running away with her but wait where is their story? We only get to see him in a car accident and that explains how they have such a strong bond...
Another frustrating one is the old man with the girl on drugs. He's a very strong character who's very calm and seems to know what he's doing and could get very far in life but suddenly he becomes a monster and end ups dying because why?

All these and more characters that were introduced in the second season could've become something that could have had big impact on the ending but it seemed to me that they were only there so both seasons could be more than a few episodes.

Third, why did they do the season 1 characters all so bad? Did they not deserve a happy day at all?
Yi-Kyung who had been fighting since day one, trying to find her fiance, giving birth to a monster and raising it, fighting its psycho father, .... did she really have to die off?
Sang-wook was just there to be possessed by the villian and his existence was basically wiped away, the only proof he was actually in the two last seasons were the appearance of his body and one time he tried to fight back the monster inside him but oh! suddenly in the end he comes back to life! only to burn to death the next second ...

I'm gonna stop rambling now... it was just a very dissapointing day for something I had been waiting on for so long... I'm gonna go cry now

underwhelming but better than s2

i start this review of by saying that i really hated subplots of season 2 so i sort of knew that i won't be enjoying this season completely. military centered story lines which started last season didn't peak my interest even back then. i continued watching for ah yi (who imo was the best addition from previous season), lee siblings and hyun soo.
good things about this season:
- no struggles with story spacing (major issue in s2)
- hyun soo seems to have decent amount of screentime compared to last season
- top notch cinematography
- great acting
bad things about this season:
- last season, writers brought in a lot of new characters to k!ll off (as i mentioned before besides s1 characters, i only liked ah yi for her mysterious aura and park chan young for his friendly non stereotypical military characteristics) . when most of them ended up dying, i didn't really care.
- i never read the books, but would've one romantic scene between CHS and LEY killed the writers? they already changed things in season 2
- the ending feels underwhelming because of the non existent built up for it. also, viewers deserved to see core 3 happy for one whole episode (i really hate when we don't get filler episodes when we need them)

Felt rushed

GREAT START - WEAK FINISH!

It could've been better, the first episodes were nice but the ending felt rushed. So many scenes were left behind. It felt like we were jumping from here to there. We got the ending we hoped for, but it was still underwhelming. The first season was okay, the second was somewhat decent and this one felt rushed, at least to me. I keep talking about the ending, but it could've been much better.

Unfinished & Incongruent Plot Points

I think they did a good job of continuing the story from Sweet Home Season 2 and keeping it interesting with the questions of the neo humans, Lee Eun Hyuk reappearing, the origin and possibility of destroying all the neo humans, and the genetically created infected people including the girl with the tentacles, the rock guy, and liquid metal guy. There was some tear jerkers with the Wang Ho Sang turning, Yi Kyung dying in the tunnel trying to save her daughter, and the little boy turning into slime. I'm kinda glad that they included the slime boy even if he didn't do much for the story. I guess it is stuck to the webtoon story as I don't remember the little slime boy doing much of anything besides guiding somebody somewhere and I think the mom recognized him like they did in the drama.

Now are the things that they just mentioned and hinted at, but didn't give a conclusion too. First off is Dr. Lim and the infected monsters he created and the vial that was in their stomach. That was just mentioned towards the end of season 3 and I don't think he explicitly said how they worked and even what they were composed of. Sergeant In Hwan mentioned that it was Sang Wook's blood, but I don't think Dr. Lim said that and he was just saying that to stall him when the crow platoon was sneaking residents out. Dr. Lim took the vial out of Ja Yeong, girl that could sprout hundred of arms out of her back, but it didn't seem to affect her when it was taken out, but she already was hinting at her pain before that.

One other big plot hole and I thought it was going to make a big impact in the last fight was Chief Ji's son that transformed and was hanging from the ceiling. It maybe was a cocoon, but it seemed that it ate people in that form and it was also hinted at neohumans being drawn towards it. The neohumans were killed outside of the entrance by Sang Wook on a whim and he hinted at them being drawn to something after being reborn, so I thought Chief Ji's son was going to come into play later. Tak In Hwan also mentioned they were going to eliminate her son, but they never followed up on that and Chief Ji was so hung up over it and I don't even think she made an appearance after that talk about her son and her suicide attempt.

Biggest plot point and one that the Sang Wook was worried about was the source of the neohumans, because they were immortal in comparison to Sang Wook. They mentioned this in like 6th episode when Hyun Soo and Eun Hyuk were in the church after they met up. They talked about it like they were going to stop all future neohumans by destroying the source, which I thought was going to turn out to somehow be Chief Ji's son, but I guess they didn't have enough budget to finish that plot point.

Kim Young Hoo the rouge soldier that was sent out to the lab in season 2, I didn't care much at all for his plot line as it felt like it was just used as a bridge to help bring together Eun Hyuk and Hyun Soo and Eun Yoo. One other character that I didn't care at all for was Father Peter and Sun Hwa, the one person who stayed behind while others was evacuating, as they didn't have much character development. It seemed like they were hinting at a relationship, then it randomly shows a flashback of her briefly showing monsterization symptoms, but it felt like those two where an after thought when it came to the plot.

One thing that I thought they did well was the internal conflict that was often brought up in the original webtoon and I liked how they portrayed that in the drama like when Hyun Soo initially brought Yi Kyung back from monsterization and when he was fighting within himself between his true self and monsterized self.

I felt like they made Yi Su so much weaker then she could've been, because she summoned the giant buff monster to show off to Sang Wook. If she could do that, then couldn't she have an entire army of over powered monsters at her hand, instead of just turning residents and making them pretty much just meat shields with no attack ability.

I felt like they were just killing of people to make for tearjerker moments, but the way they were going about it didn't have that much impact for me. The only death that impacted me was Yi Kyung, but even then I felt like I couldn't dwell in the death, because it immediately moved onto the next scene where Yi Su was being dragged off. Eun Yoo showing signs of monsterization all of a sudden and then going off on her own felt like they didn't know how to end her story line, so they just choose something easy that wouldn't affect the main plot. Yi Su's character absolutely killed the acting, as her acting was on point when it came to the crucial scenes. I think her character stood out most for me, as her character was most congruent throughout the story and made sense.

Lastly I think it was fine to end it how they did regarding the rooftop scene to pay homage back to the beginning of their encounters with each other. The neohumans coexisting with humans was so rushed and did not make much sense for how the plot was being setup before with them possibly destroying the source of the neohumans. That point felt hashed together to put a cap on what they would do regarding the neohumans.

S3 leaves a bittersweet taste but exceeds S2 in many good ways.

STORY:
The show has already gone different from webtoon in S2 so I wasn't sure how S3 will pan out and end but can say it didn't disappoint for most part even though I would have preferred had they gone by webtoon and ended it that way. The showrunners did one really good thing with this season and that was to not make it too messy just like S2. Things were kept at a good pace and weren't dragged unnecessarily.

ACTING:
Acting wise it was done phenomenally. Everyone did total justice to their roles be it the protagonists or antagonists. Song Kang nailed it with his portrayal of both Hyun Soo and his monster side. For me this time Min Si was the best in this season when it comes to showing off emotions, as she did so well showing her pain, desperation and sadness. Lee Si Young as a mother with conflicting emotions filled with desperation, guilt, pain and her relationship arc with her daughter was well executed.
Even Hong Suzu acted well in this drama than she did in "IH" so kudos to her on that.

PRODUCTION:
The production value was big and it showed quite well. The difference between S1 and S3 in terms of VFX and sets is quite visible.

ENDING/ FINALE:
It wasn't satisfactory but wasn't bad too. There are story arcs that could have been concluded way better had they gone by webtoon but then again the drama went in a different route way back. It is bittersweet to say the least.

Slightly better than season 2 but...

Slightly better than season 2 because of lee do-hyun and song kang moments, but still not even close to the greatness of season 1.
There are a lot of details that I didn't remembered so I was a bit confused in some moments.
In general it felt kinda rush, and it felt that they just wanted to write some random things to make 2 more seasons.
Not every kdrama needs an additional season just because the first one was good, I wish kdrama writers would start getting this, because most of the times it just not makes sense.
Despite everything, song kang is so beautiful it was worth it.
