Wasted potential

A lot better than season 2 but its so insanely underwhelming.

It feels like all the creativity was poured into season 1. Season 2 gave the need for wanting more and I was really hoping season 3 would seal the drama knowing its the finale…but nothing.

So much characters were introduced on season 2 and season 3 continues from there but even after season 2 I was still not caring for the new side characters because they contributed nothing to the plot nor did they have well developed attributes that season 1 cast had.

Season 3 being the finale made me question the production team’s end goal because quite frankly I don’t see the vision they had in mind. Half the episodes felt like absolute fillers with the most interesting scenes being from Eunyu’s Sweet Home moment with Eunhyeok.

Season 3 gave screentimes to the main characters that didn’t receive it in season 2 but the story is really just not there.
So many scientific terms were born but never explained and the ending just feels HEAVILY underwhelming.

Cast and cgi ate tho.

Season 1 is still superior

This season was a step up from season 2, but still nowhere near as good as the first season.
I did enjoy this season for what it was, even if the final few minutes were rushed and didn't fully explain what needed to be about neohumans and what happens to the main trio.
I do have some issues overall. Mainly, the plot. Season 2 built up so many random characters and plot points, seemingly for nothing because almost all of the new characters introduced were killed off and plot points disappeared.
Maybe I'm just dumb, but I guess I didn't fully understand Lee Jinwook's character and what he wanted. I thought that he wanted to find more special infectees, but then he killed all of them. So what was the point of him as the main villain? This leads me to my second main issue, which is lack of payoff. I think we all expected Hyunsu and Jinwook's character to have an epic final showdown, but we were denied that. The whole ending battle was lackluster. Not only that, but I thought that Hyunsu's ability to turn monsters back into humans was leading up to him kicking Jinwook from Yisu's head, but he spent all of a minute in there. It's weird. We're told that Hyunsu is special and we kinda see that, but not really. Really frustrating for someone who is suppose to be the main character.
Okay, so all of that to say, I did enjoy the first half of the season. It was fun to see the main trio back together (even if, as much as I loved having him back, bringing Lee Eunhyeok back didn't serve much purpose). I also really enjoyed Monster!Hyunsu. He was a fun change and the scene where he and Human!Hyunsu talk and become one was well filmed and cool, but perhaps should've bee longer and more built up.
Ultimately, both this season and 2 don't hold a candle to the first season, which had a focused plot, good character arcs, and more importantly HEART.

Little Bit Disappointed for The Ending

I really loved the first season. Every cast member had their own role with a well-balanced portion. The storyline was written very well. However, the second season was quite disappointing—there were many new cast additions, but their roles felt unclear. Some of the CGI for the monsters was also poorly done, especially in the grass-tree scenes. Season 3 was slightly better, but the ending resolution was a bit underwhelming.

In my opinion, it's S1 > S3 > S2
But, tbh the acting is 💯

A Satisfying Ending

Not a phenomenal ending, but satisfying one. This isn't going to be long. If you've gotten to season 3, you already know the story (you may need to check out the last episode of S2 as a refresher), the production value, and acting. The writing probably could have been a little crisper.

SH 3 brings a close to the all of the storylines that started in seasons 1 and 2. Technically, I think there were less monsters than there were in 2, because most of them...ok that's a spoiler.. let's just say the cut back on the effects budget. Season 3 strove to bring humanity back into the picture. In some ways it succeeded and in some it failed only because there was no reason to do so. Except for our main villain it tried to make everyone have some strand of likability and that was unnecessary. The season lacked tension and shock value.

For the most part it was entertaining, but it could have and should have been better. It was better than 2, but for me it just was nowhere near the brilliance of season 1.

Maybe the world is coming to an end

This is a phrase that is certainly in the minds of many characters in the series, or at least it was, because the creator decided to kill almost everyone.

Regarding the story, the beginning is slow and there is almost no action. Not ironically, it only starts to get really cool to watch when Yi Kyeong shows up to save his daughter. As the girl is the core of the third season, this is when the series begins to move forward. I didn't understand the fight between Eunhyuk and Hyunsu inside the bus. I know they were getting weird and that Hyunsu was possessed by that crazy guy, but it didn't make any sense. I don't think even those who read the Webtoon understood it.

I found the ending strange, because, out of nowhere, Sang Wook managed to hold the villain almost completely. It was easy compared to how I interpreted the situation, because Sang Wook's body had already been burned, and then he appeared brand new again. Afterwards, he began to have an internal struggle for his body. Anyway, I didn't see the point, but I liked that it worked, mainly because Sang Wook saved a lot of people.

Yi Kyeong's daughter irritated me in the two seasons she participated in, especially when she turned the little boy into that jelly. But I can't deny that she suffered a lot. However, if she hadn't turned those innocent people into monsters, it would have given Hyunsu time to save her, I imagine. I didn't understand if she really died or not.

Eun Yu also had a strange event. She was infected, but maybe I didn't see how it happened. I didn't understand why she got infected out of nowhere and Chan Yeong and the girl didn't.

Regarding the music, I was disappointed. The first and second seasons had a spectacular opening and an excellent soundtrack. I thought the third season was missing something, like Imagine Dragons' "Warriors." The best soundtrack was when Eunhyuk and Hyunsu were talking on the bus, and it only lasted about 8 seconds. However, the opening animation is brilliant.

Overall, the series was good because they managed to turn many Webtoon chapters into three seasons of an average of 45 minutes each.

The saddest things in the third season were the deaths and the fact that Hyunsu or Chan Yeong didn't come out to Eun Yu. 😭

★The performances, as always, were impeccable★

It feels like the survival monster story plot took a backseat to some emotional bulls*it...

Worst of the 3 seasons for sure.

They sacrificed a lot of time they could have spent focusing on defeating the monster threat and developing the strongest characters survival stories stalling with other filler nonsense. They also sacrificed time they could have spent explaining and showcasing the various types of infectees strengths and weaknesses, to instead focus SO MUCH time on pointless emotional character expositions and discussing or portraying relationships that were barely existent/non existent in the first 2 seasons. I assume they were trying to focus on pulling viewer heart strings or some nonsense like that, but I felt nothing for anyone by the end, not even the 'victory' for the leads felt good.

They also sacrificed a lot of time for some very, very pointless dialogue and trying to make the neo human/leads look 'cool' and act very smooth and collected and exchange 'cool' lines and looks at each other at the most ridiculous times, interrupting the pacing of the series in many places, and their attitudes contradicting everything previously felt about those particular characters struggles. Also, many loose ends were not even remotely addressed, there was no actual showdown between the main threat and the leads at the end (major cop out and waste of all that CGI) and all the wrong lead characters died while some really useless ones survived.
Anyway:

The GOOD:
- The acting and casting.
- 90% of the CGI.
- The fight scenes.

The BAD:
- The plot. Total waste of the previous two seasons. Very, very weak wrap up.

HIGHLIGHTS:
- Lee Si Young was excellent as always (they wasted her appearance in S03 completely, might as well have killed her off in S02)
- The soldiers never failed to be interesting characters in S02 and S03, they also served more purpose and carried more weight in the story than the leads in S03.
- Hyun Su looked pretty neat with neon blue eyes.

Season 3 was the furthest removed from S01 imo, they took this in a different direction in a bad way, it didn't match the intensity, energy and fast paced action of the first two seasons which made engaging with the content and being invested in the characters survival feel very blah.
Over all season 3 was a let down for me.

Because S03 is such a let down and S02 will leave you expecting a third season, which will disappoint you, I'd suggest people just don't watch past S01, because S01 can actually be considered stand alone just fine and it was excellent.

Closure, but it's unmemorable

I thought Season 1 was generally enjoyable, and Season 2 was also interesting, but had a little too many subplots and random characters. Season 3 fixes that by once again focusing on the most important character (Hyun-su) but doesn't give him much to do.

I'm really glad Hyun-su got more screentime in this season, especially with Eun-yu and Eun-hyeok, because these three were and still are the most important and most intriguing characters, but plot-wise, these three were pretty underutilized. I think the issue is, firstly, just not being quite sure what the end goal is. We know generally that they're on a crash course towards the antagonist, but I didn't really understand what the plan was. And secondly, between this season and the previous season, there's a pretty big shift away from individual stories and showing what triggers monsterization and how they should be dealt with. I get that it's difficult to do this once you've scaled up the story and there are so many arcs to address, but the unfortunate trade-off is that nothing quite sticks.

I personally liked the ending

I am not going to review the series as a whole, as other reviews have already covered it well. What I will say is that I liked the ending. It gave me The Walking Dead ending vibes, in that they didn't miraculously cure monsterisation or cure/kill everybody who had already turned. The ending also gives us the possibility that we could see Sweet Home again in the future, after Song Kang's military service, should everybody wish to continue. We could see a mega final battle between the humans and neohumans vs. the monsters. That would be pretty cool.

Better than S1 and S2

If i’m being honest, amongst the other seasons, this one by far was the most interesting one to me. Plotwise and actionwise, it was very entertaining and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they did better than some shows would when they make a third season.

Though I think there were many unnecessary deaths (won’t spoil who but I mean..most deaths that happened were pretty predictable and stupid)

And yes I liked this season better but only plotwise. Everything else seemed to remain the same, acting wasn’t all that better and the monsters are still goofy looking, I don’t know- they’re supposed to be scary but they just look incredibly funny and so very obviously fake. And I guess that won’t ever change because the whole point of this show is people turning into all kinds of monsters.

The ending was a bit confusing imo, I have no idea how Hyunsu ended up bringing back that little kid from monsterazation when he was literally goo???

And if it’s been revealed that monsters can be reborn and turn into neohumans, why couldn’t Yisu do the same? I thought she’s already neohuman so she couldn’t die— actually I don’t really remember what happened with her in the end but I doubt she actually died…Yeah, the ending was a little too vague for me.

Overall it was pretty entertaining though and action this season was neat. Lots of unnecessary deaths but I guess for the sake of shock value they had to do something.

Much improved from season 2

Much like many people who watched the entire season, I was hooked like no other after season 1. The way they were all stuck in a small space and the dynamics between all of the characters were very well done, it felt like they explored the side characters as well as the main characters which I appreciated. They continue to do this throughout all of the seasons which I really like in a show, especially seeing them grow (if they don't die first).
The amount of deaths is actually ridiculous, but I had a love-hate relationship with it. It was sad to see so many people I adored go, but it would make no sense to have everyone live until the end. It would have nullified the stakes and made it easy to predict in that way. It did, however, do the opposite...After a while I was certain that almost nobody would make it, you could just feel that they were going to either kill or monsterize almost everyone the audience grew attached to except for the "main main" players (and even some of those!!).

Definitely much better than season 2 since it leaned back into the monster-verse of it all while incorporating less of the military (still included, but more intertwined) which I wasn't as interested in. Everything felt much more connected, and I found it very easy to watch all at once. Acting was great, especially Song Kang! Hyun Su's growth as a character is really cool to see in comparison to the first season. Absolutely loved the dynamic between Hyun Su and Eun-Hyuk. It was very similar to the first season, but different enough considering the change in their characters. The way they bicker (kind of like brothers in some instances) really made me feel warm and fuzzy because it was a happy circle back to season 1.

I simultaneously liked and disliked the final battle scene with Nam Sang Won. It felt less like a physical battle to see who was strong, but more of a mental one. I think it makes sense though considering that's what the entire series is about if you think about it. It was just a little surprising since there was constant talk about who was stronger. Ends up having a really cool interpretation because you could say that, due to Sang Wook coming back and actually putting an end to Sang won, humans are actually the strongest. Very cool way to think about it.

Eun-yu made me sad though. I was really looking forward to seeing Hyun Su have somebody he could actually hold onto considering he's lost so much, as have all of them. Eun-yu came so far in the way she cared for people and put others before herself as opposed to season 1, so to kind of see that go down the drain was a little disappointing. There was the assumption that she would get there though, considering Eun- Hyuk did, so it's not too bad, I just would have liked to see it myself.

Overall, I would 100% watch the series if I hadn't watched it before, and I would probably rewatch season 1 (as I have already while waiting for season 2), but not the rest of the seasons. If you see the ending of the series once, that's really all you need, but I'd say it's worth it to get there.
Watching the ending was bittersweet, but the beginning is always a ride.
