O Eclipse (2022)

Enrolei muito para começar a assistir, mas assim que comecei, acabei me prendendo a tudo.

Os Firstkhao são uns amores assim como os Neolouis e ninguém pecou em atuação.
A história se baseou apenas na maldição e na vingança, e tudo bem. Mas durante o episódio 11 tudo se perdeu. Simplesmente parecia que eu tinha pulado um episódio inteiro!
Não houve diálogos após as ações do Thua, nem sobre o Akk e figiram que nada aconteceu, isso me chateou porque ficou sem pé nem cabeça.

É legal ver a amizade dos três; fiquei puta várias vezes, mas valeu a penaKKKKKKKKKKK
Eu realmente achei bom o desenvolvimento e como a confiança entre os protagonistas ficava cada vez maior, era lindo ver o apoio.

Os maiorais!

( AVISO, comentei bastante sobre a personalidade dos personagens, talvez pra alguém que não viu ainda isso conte como spoiler, então cuidado! )
Já faz algumas semanas desde que vi The Eclipse pela primeira vez, genuinamente esqueci de fazer a review, mas é TÃO memorável que eu lembro muito bem tudo que achei sobre a história, sobre a atuação, e praticamente tudo que quero pontuar sobre e compartilhar aqui.
Já começo dizendo que eu me diverti bastante assistindo, muito gostosinho de ver, tanto por já gostar dos atores principais, tanto por eles continuarem honrando tudo de bom que é dito sobre as habilidades de atuação deles, a cada episódio que passava eu só queria descobrir mais e mais sobre as nuances dos personagens deles, sobre suas vidas, suas histórias, suas razões, e principalmente suas dores, que não são poucas.
Entrando mais nesse tópico, eu achei extremamente bonita a forma que o sofrimento de cada um deles foi representada, eu diria até que chegou bastante perto da realidade e isso é muito gratificante de se ver, e gostei ainda mais do jeito de comunicar ao mundo que sua dor é tão válida quanto todas as outras, e que você não se torna menos por senti-la.
"Você tem permissão para ser fraco, pelo menos comigo."
O drama retratou com sucesso a visão de uma pessoa sofrendo de uma depressão profunda pós perda, e como isso tem o poder de DESTRUIR alguém de dentro pra fora, vimos isso com o personagem Ayan, ele estava tão perdido na dor do luto e no pensamento de que ele precisava fazer algo sobre isso, ao ponto que suas ações se tornarem extremamente inconsequentes, sendo danosas até para ele mesmo durante esse processo. E com Akk, vimos PERFEITAMENTE como a mente de alguém que conseguiu uma oportunidade única de se provar funciona, ele já havia sofrido bastante anteriormente com a discriminação social, por ter vindo de interior, por ter menos condições, e isso fazia com que as pessoas se sentissem no direito de o menosprezar, então tudo que ele sentia a necessidade de fazer era agarrar essa chance e cuidar para que nunca perdesse ela, pois isso havia se tornado quem ele era, e não podia mais voltar atrás, juntando tudo isso com a pressão acadêmica, um perfeito robô que só sabia seguir estritamente as regras foi criado.
E então The Eclipse faz essas duas mentes turbulentas se chocarem, de fato como acontece em um eclipse, eles passam por uma longa trajetória repleta de medos, receios, e MUITO crescimento pessoal com a ajuda um do outro, a quantidade de apoio que vemos, a COMPREENSÃO é linda de se ver, e vemos como o amor tem realmente o poder de mudar as pessoas, de trazer o melhor nelas novamente.
Finalizo essa review dizendo que apesar do BL não ser o meu favorito de todos os tempos, ele com certeza entra na lista junto com os melhores que já vi, e vale MUITO a pena assistir, até tiro um pouco do meu tempo aqui pra parabenizar DE NOVO as habilidades dos atores principais, esse não é o primeiro papel emocionante que o First Kanaphan protagoniza, mas ele conseguiu DEVORAR esse roteiro com atuação e talento, e tenho que admitir, assistir homens chorando sempre mexeu comigo, e o First chora extremamente LINDO. Ademais, Khaotung Thanawat, este é outro que talento pra atuação é o que não falta, quero ressaltar até mesmo como os olhos dele são muito expressivos e adicionam bastante na hora de fazer cenas mais emocionantes, e acreditam, temos cenas incríveis assim de SOBRA em The Eclipse.

Que casal lindo

Fazia tempos que não assistia um dorama direto e terminava ele de uma vez.
Gostei bastante do dorama como um todo, tem alguns detalhes na história que deixam a desejar, mas nada q eu n pude relevar.
A química que o casal tem é de dar inveja, espero muito ver esses dois juntos em outro bl novamente. A atuação dos atores é ótima, já conhecia um dos principais, de outro bl e já tinha gostado bastante da atuação, mas gostei bastante do trabalho de todos os atores.
Outra coisa que gostei bastante foi a cinematografia e a fotografia, bem diferente de outros doramas tailandeses q já vi. E também da trilha sonora, achei as músicas tão bonitas que fiquei sentida.
Por fim acho que vale bastante a pena assistir, os atores são ótimos, o casal principal tem uma química incrível e linda, e apesar dos pesares é uma história bem legal que na minha opinião vale a pena assistir. Foi uma ótima experiência.

firstkhaothung meus pais

eu vou ser honesta: a história não foi a mais cativante, mas os meninos first e khao foram apaixonantes o bastante para me fazer permanecer assistindo os primeiros eps. o restante do cast também é bem bom (e lindo rs), então continuei a série principalmente por um afeto imenso pelos personagens, e uma ligeira curiosidade pela trama. não fui muito fã da resolução dos conflitos, porque o sentido apelativo moralista foi forte, e a lógica, fraca. achei que a narrativa deixou a desejar em vários pontos, construindo personagens complexos, como akk e ayan (com background densos, cheio de traumas), mas plots verdadeiramente simplérrimos, meio bobos, mesmo que para um bl - especialmente um drama que se pretende de suspense. DE TODO MODO, as cenas de firstkhaothung tão muito fofas, lindas, queridas, preciosas. em muitos momentos, fiquei balançando os pés, rindo feito boba com as cenas deles ---- e o BEIJO! o primeiro BEIJO! aquilo foi CINEMA! juro! de tudo na série, a cena do primeiro beijo foi o que mais me marcou, cinematograficamente falando: ambientação, o fato de não ter tido música, a intimidade febril da cena... belíssimo. a série poderia ter acabado aí (brincadeira hehe).

Gostei, com algumas ressalvas

Eu nem lembro por que comecei esse BL, acho que nem tinha visto nada de divulgação e tudo mais. Só vi as pessoas comentando e decidi assistir, sem expectativa nenhuma pra falar a verdade.

O primeiro episódio não me agradou, mas ainda assim decidi continuar e não me arrependo. Foi muito bom assistir The Eclipse.

Importante dizer que provavelmente o que me cativou mais no início da história foi o personagem Ayan - quem não gostava de ver ele militando por qualquer motivo? hahah - mas falando sério, eu achava bem legal a dinâmica do personagem na trama.

O romance de The Eclipse para mim foi o grande destaque desse BL. Foi bem desenvolvido, saudável, o casal teve muita química e o impacto que Akk e Ayan tiveram na vida um do outro é perceptível no decorrer da narrativa. Um dos melhores casais de BL sim!! Além disso, o casal secundário foi fofinho demais também.

Quanto à história do BL: na minha opinião o plot da escola poderia ter sido melhor desenvolvido. Em muitos momentos, a trama só se baseava naquilo que foi nos apresentado no primeiro episódio: a maldição e os protestos dos alunos. Como se a história estivesse andando em círculos.

Outra coisa que achei meio aleatória foi o tal protesto dos alunos, que parecia se basear apenas no "não queremos usar uniforme". Com vários e vários episódios batendo nessa tecla, teve uma hora que ficou bem entediante.

Então o que eu penso sobre o enredo desse BL é que ele traz questões bem legais a serem discutidas, só não foi tão bem executado. De toda forma, até que conseguiu me fazer pensar bastante enquanto assitia, o que já é alguma coisa.

Quanto à atuação do elenco, achei boa no geral, com exceção de alguns personagens. Não acho que a cinematografia tenha algo de extraordinário (o que não é um problema, já que essa não parece ser a intenção) principalmente por ter sempre o mesmo cenário da escola.

Agora, queria destacar a belíssima OST "Over The Moon", cantada por Khaotung. Que música linda! A letra dela expressa totalmente o relacionamento dos protagonistas. Uma das melhores OST's de BL que conheço.

Enfim, The Eclipse foi um BL bem legal de acompanhar, e que de certa forma é um pouco diferente dos BL's tailandeses que estamos acostumados.

atitudes drásticas por motivações fracas

the eclipse foi uma das séries que mais aguardei o lançamento porque admiro demais o trabalho do first e do khaotung. Sabendo o quanto a gmm adora temáticas escolares com uma pitada de crítica ao sistema/sociedade coloquei as expectativas lá nas alturas.

o que aconteceu porém é que the eclipse tem um elenco com qualidade acima da proposta que traz. Não sei se por preguiça ou por comodismo mas o autor dessa história escolheu levar as coisas com a barriga várias e várias vezes, dando explicações vagas pra eventos em que a explicação é a chave de tudo. Alguns personagens reagem de maneira absurda a situações em que uma simples conversa resolveria, bem como transformam as regras básicas de qualquer colégio em uma ditadura, o que não faz o menor sentido.

durante vários episódios eu senti que o autor só queria criticar e criticar sem ter um embasamento. Parece que o único objetivo ali era enfiar pautas sociais goela abaixo sem se importar de verdade com a lógica. Alunos reclamando do uniforme como se em pelo menos 90% das escolas do mundo todos não precisassem usar também (e nem só por questão de beleza mas por segurança, além de que acredito ser só uma desculpa pra se vestirem como fossem numa balada), reclamando por não poderem usar celular durante as aulas (o que também não é permitido em milhares de escolas por motivos óbvios), reclamando das supostas "regras rígidas e antiquadas" que eu, sinceramente, não percebi quais eram até porque não existem.

o plot twist com o professor foi algo mal desenvolvido e colocado ali no meio de repente, a situação do tio do ayan também é usada como background em alguns momentos que não têm nada a ver, personagens como a diretora agem e falam de maneira escrachada só pra tentar enfatizar quem é o vilão já que se não for assim dificilmente vamos ter argumento pra odiar alguém ali. Quanto à maldição, é na verdade hilário como todos aqueles adolescentes e professores sempre tão movidos pela racionalidade realmente cogitam eventos sobrenaturais num colégio e tentam relacionar eles a um eclipse (mais uma das coisas sem sentido pra lista)

gosto de pensar que esse é só o primeiro de muitos passos que os firstkhao vão dar juntos e que os próximos trabalhos serão infinitamente melhores, eles merecem um enredo tão bom quanto possível

ECLIPSED POTENTIAL

What just happened? Is that it?

The promotions to this show oversold it as a mystery drama - but wat was promised to be an intriguing and unique (crime)unexplained death solving/revenge plot with a touch of supernatural turned out to be nothing but shallow build up.

The only saving grace is the cast - First and Khaotung are both too good for the scenes they could have done it even while sleeping. It is a shame that both stellar actors are not getting the right break to catapult them into proper BL idols, i thought this was it. Oh, I also thought they're too old to play high school, in shorts nonetheless.

Im sorry to say but nothing about the plot is successfully executed - the investigative-mystery solving arc turned out to be nothing but one nephew's cry for attention. The failed attempt of being a gay activism show (un)spectacularly influenced by the metoo movement is just preachy and pointless. The enemies-to-lovers angle was shoved in our faces but isnt even fully developed. Even the second pairing felt forced. And has anyone sensed a creepy teacher to student lovers vibe?

Also, you cannot make a story with two trying-hard psychopaths that put other students lives at risk (to advance their causes) just to literally make them get away with it at the end, there was no consequences and literally no risks. Everybody came out unscathed and everything is rainbows and butterflies by the end. Just no. It made the whole series pointless.

Episode 1 wasnt compelling enough, i stayed because of the cast. I was already too bored by episode 3 and i kind of forgot about it. Came back and binged the next 4 episodes but it didnt get better. I skipped it again and bitch watched (Im sorry, i meant to say binge watched) the rest after the finale aired. Im just glad i didnt wait for it every Friday.

We all know we have too much school BL drama now, and giving it a twist could have been interesting but man it is just a show with big potential but was eclipsed by the shallow execution.

Overall, 6.5 stars. watch it for the main leads otherwise ignore it if you have other things to watch.

Poor writing partially saved by a great cast

This was a real disappointment - the story had potential and some good ideas, but the execution was sloppy and the plot ran out of steam after a few episodes.

The acting is great with First as the standout, and Neo and Louis quite engaging whenever they had screentime. The music is also quite good, with well-chosen and moody background score that supported the story.

The problem was the writing. We started out with good ingredients - a story about tradition and authority vs modernity and individuality. At first it looked like we'd get an intelligent examination, with a quite excellent in-class argument in which the rebellious Ayan manipulates an authoritarian teacher into supporting his perspective while he takes hers - but it's like all the intelligence in the script went into that one exchange because it was never repeated.

Instead, the authors come down heavily on the side of freedom, equating rules with depression and suicide - which might have worked if he rules weren't so mild and commonplace - wear a school uniform like 90% of humanity as mandated by ministries of education, and don't use phones during class. Really? That's it? And the writing contradicts itself, as almost everything bad that happens is due to preoccupation with social media, so maybe phones were the problem after all.

The Curse of Suppalo was another interesting idea, which quickly petered out and became incidents so benign that people's OTT reactions to them were ridiculous.

There is a plot twist in Ep 11 that you won't see coming, largely because it isn't set up in the slightest and ends up requiring someone to behave totally out of character, and everyone else to behave out of character in their reaction to it - and since there are no consequences resulting at all, it's meaningless - just a random twist for no apparent reason.

The relationship between Akk and Ayan starts off interesting, but quickly degenerates into a string of tropes including the most stupid accidental kiss I've ever seen, by far - it's so bad I dropped the series and only picked it up again when everyone assured me it got better. It didn't. There is no real organic development between them - they're pushed together by stupid cliches and tropes, and it's never clear why they like each other, so you have to conclude it's a physical thing. I will say that I liked that they didn't do the seme-uke thing - in fact people in the forum argued over which was which.

This is basically a six-episode story stretched out to twelve. It really has nothing to say, and despite its promising introduction, was basically just a typical formulaic high school BL, albeit set in an all boys school, so we're at least spared the stock evil gf character, and it is refreshing that the characters are actually gay and identify as such.

The last episode is cloying and preachy. Nobody watching BL has a problem with homosexuality, so preaching to the choir is pretentious and irritating - plus the absolute ease with which coming out is accomplished and greeted sends no message - in fact it's a bit offensive in a story that has pretentions of social commentary and in its portrayal of depression and mental illness to just handwave away the most difficult and painful thing LGBTQ+ teens have to deal with.

I'm not sure I can recommend this. If you're a big fan of the cast, then I'd watch it - but otherwise it's a frustrating, shallow, formulaic melodrama. I doubt I'll have any recollection of it in three months.

excellent premise and actors let down by bad writing (minor spoilers in content warnings)

Overall: the trailer totally hooked me but the writing just wasn't there. This is basically a classic Thai BL romance with window dressing. Aired on YouTube.

What I Liked
- acting and chemistry, especially First and Khaotung (hope to see them as leads again either together or separately)
- promising premise with mystery elements
- flirt and cute moments
- Akk's parents
- good OST and opening credits

Room For Improvement
- that a main drama was private school students being angry about wearing uniforms, this fell flat and would have been better if it focused on bullying/homophobia as many private school students everywhere have to wear uniforms
- too few plot twists and too late
- the writing was a let down, was Ayan even investigating most of the time? A teacher wearing louboutin shoes? Why weren't the 3 students just expelled? Random bonfire on a beach? Why on Ayan tell Akk that at the end of episode 10 at probably the worst possible time? I still don't really understand a character's motivation in episode 11
- Akk was reluctant and Ayan was aggressive for too long, Ayan consistently violated Akk's boundaries, he was being disrespectful not supportive
- two slow burns, would have been better with a fast burn and a slow burn
- what two characters did in episode 11 is close to unforgivable but they have no consequences and all of a sudden everything is totally fine
- hugging and thanking that character in episode 12 part 1 was bizarre
- very angry/sad about what Ayan told Akk's parents in episode 12 part 2, that's not his place to say especially without first discussing it beforehand with Akk

Simplistic symbolism and how being a teenager is actually hard.

A rare case when my brain sees all the flaws, but my heart says: I don’t care. The whole show has a great juvenile charm to it, and the sloppy storytelling and in your face symbolism just adds to it. Sure, I strongly believe that with a few different directing choices this could easily become one of the best BL shows up to date, but even as it is right now, it’s truly enjoyable.

Yes, the setup on the surface is painfully stupid. We are sold the story of this abusive authoritarian school and students fighting for their rights, but what is presented is 3 students not wanting to wear uniforms. Is it that simple? No. It was never about uniforms, it was about self expression and more accurately sexuality.

The uniforms and the rules were supposed to represent the norm in terms of sexuality. Following the rules in school meant following social norms. Suppressing your sexuality to fit with what was established and deemed as "normal". The whole show is a commentary on the conservative and outdated ideas and how they harm the youth. It’s a great subject with a idea on how to present it, but not as good of an execution.

The storytelling was not detailed enough. We are presented with a wall of rules that were established, yet we actually know about only two. What are the others? No idea. What consequences are the students facing if they break the rules? No idea. There is the curse, but that’s it. Where are the parents? The whole adult side of the show is ridiculously unbelievable.

On the other hand, it made perfect sense why the teens were being “overdramatic” - they are teens. Suppression of individuality at the time when it's most crucial to figure yourself out is not really a small thing. The Eclipse did a great job to make me sympathize with the issues these kids were facing and how big of an impact it has on them. From the point of view of an adult, my initial reaction was: why are they so dramatic? Just be patient for the next few months, graduate and move on. But that type of thinking is the issue - if they are told to follow the rules and not question anything now, how will they learn to fight for their rights later? Their actions as teens will shape their behavior, motivations, personalities later on. Nothing really changes as you grow up. First you are told to do what your teachers say, later you are told to listen to your professors. Then you need to follow your bosses instructions. That’s why it’s so important for the youth to ask questions, debate, reflect on the problems and issues and not just do what adults tell them.

For the characters, the leads were phenomenal - both in the writing and portrayal. Seeking validation and purpose. Sticking to the role one obsesses over, because it feels like it's the only thing that defines who we are. The fear of being seen as disappointment. The drama also touches on the subjects of depression and suicide. How we should not judge one’s struggles based on our own standards. How we should be patient with others, because we cannot know and truly understand what they are going through.

What I appreciated the most was the takes on coming out and accepting your sexuality. It’s not the “I don’t like guys, I only like you”. It’s not “everyone is either gay or loves gay”. None of the unrealistic scenarios here. It often takes time to figure yourself out, it takes time to accept what you find, it takes time to then admit it to others. In that aspect I could not like the relationship between Akk and Ayan more. Not to mention one of the best on screen chemistry I have seen in ages.

For the acting, I've been a fan of Khaotung for some time. Realistically speaking, he is one of the best that Thai BLs can offer. I rewatched some scenes simply because of his performance. Thank god First was cast as his co-star, also delivering a solid portrayal.

Production wise I don’t really have complaints. I think some of the setup and directing ideas were too big for the production team, which led to a few questionable and ridiculous takes, but damn the show was pretty.

Overall, I liked it a lot. Yes, the setup and the way they decided to present some serious issues was questionable, but I still believe it was better than the majority of BLs out there. The biggest problem was the transition from rules at school being the issues, to how they relate to the overall social norms and homophobia - it was too jarring. You get the idea behind it all, but you still feel like it’s a bit too disconnected from each other.
