When water is thicker than blood
The film navigates around the lives of two people brought together by fate in rather dismal conditions, to form a bond that is beyond that of blood relations. Being based on a true story makes it all the more convincing and hopeful...It is a sentimental and heart warming portrayal of the lives of two disabled men...Se Ha who is paralyzed and wheelchair bound due to his quadriplegia but is otherwise extremely sharp with an active and able mind, and Dong Goo who is mentally challenged(autism I suppose) with an understanding of a 5 year old, is athletic and has commendable physical strength...it is almost as though fate meant for them to meet and complement each other, so much so that they become one complete person. Se Ha was dropped off at an institution of the disabled after the passing away of his mother and Dong Goo was abandoned by his mother finally to be taken in by the same institution, where they then meet, and Se Ha prevents the others from bullying Dong Goo, after which their loyalties never waver...For twenty years they stay together as the perfect partners, where Se Ha manages the finances and is the brain of the two and Dong Goo is the brawn and helps execute the orders given to him...
The story is written very well with an adequate dose of humour to lighten the otherwise heavy premise, they realistically portray all the problems faced by them, but also convey hope by how they implement counters to all of that and can find joy in their everyday lives simply because they have each other...The plot is simple but is riddled with its fair share of problems and has a predictable yet impactful ending which was cathartic...
The main leads were brilliant in their roles and executed them to perfection...Lee Kwang Soo doesn't have much to speak but makes endearing, large and ludicrous gestures which frankly just say it all...Shin Ha Kyun in particular relies on his words and facial expressions to convey his feelings and intentions since his body is motionless, neck down...and he pulls it off fantastically, portraying the frustration, anger, disappointment and fondness ensued by their brotherhood with utmost finesse...
Overall it is done quite delicately and with utmost respect to the differently abled...It was a symphony of emotions I felt while watching the film and that's what made it so pleasurable...
And indeed, family is the people in your life who want you in theirs and accept you for who you are, family isn't always blood...

RECOMMENDED IF YOU WANNA LAUGH AND CRY!!
As someone who works with people with disabilities, I super appreciate this movie as they somehow focused at what a mentally unstable person can do. I love Kwangsoo's acting cuz he actually pulled off the role. I've watched it twice without a sub, and I'm still crying a river. This movie is so good, I dont mind watching it over and over again whenever. This movie shows us how we also have to look out the emotions of an autistic person. They cant express things as much as they want but their emotions have huge impacts on their actions. I cry everytime kwangsoo cries. its jus too hard not to. i felt all the emotions in this movie. First, you would be dying of laughing then next thing you know, you’d be crying a river.
Wether you are a guy or girl, I doubt you can control your tears. lmao. A round of applause to the actors especially to the two leads. Lee Kwangsoo and Shin Hakyun! This movie deserves a 10/10 rating! I learned a lot of life lessons from this movie and its just overwhelming. Currently my fave movie!

Se Ha was jaded and he put alot of walls around him though I could understand that it was hard to see his true heart until the end.
Dong Goo was such a pure precious being, and kwangsoo did such a great job conveying so much without even talking, like Dong Goo's inner thoughts about how Se Ha would be better off without him and the feelings of abandonment and loneliness he had to keep in his heart.
Mi Hyun was also another precious person. she embodied the sweet pure friendship that kinda made the bromance even better. they didn't need to be blood related to become a family TT_TT
Ahn Ji Ho had a small role of young Se Ha but he conveyed so much heartbreaking emotions that solidified the jadedness of old Se Ha so well. I hope he gets more roles soon he has a bright future ahead of him~
the ost was nice especially the end song the 3 main leads sang and I rarely rewatch things

Not for your inspiration but a movie demanding respect for the weak
It is not always easy to make a movie about people with disabilities without it being dehumanizing inspirational crap treating people with disabilities as sources of inspiration or using people with disabilities to kick att the weak saying if that person can do it why cant you etc... while often portraying a story with some kind of combination of look att that poor thing (yes i choose the word thing) with wow look he can tie his shoes lets applaud him what an inspiration it is to us all....This movie goes against all that and gets really close to showing these people as actual competent humans with feelings, flaws and needs without ignoring the difficulties and stigma people with disabilities face in their daily lives. I love the name of the place they lived in "House of respect" that is so much more important then all these houses of peace, love or what not.
" The weak must protect the weak"
This was a heartwarming tear-jerking laughter igniting story about true friendship, not against all odds but a mutual friendship where the two people involved perfectly complete each other and the people around them who love them just the way they are. And yes I loved it!

This story inspires me to never give up on anything or anyone you love. How Dong Gu enjoys taking care of Se Ha despite all the hassles and his disability. Something came onto my head while watching the movie: Some may say that no friend could love you more than they love themselves, but some could prove it wrong. This story proves to me that some friend could be as loving as your own family, and this inspires me most.
For reminders, prepare tissues when you reach the endings... Overall, 10000/10 ⭐️
