Story:
The writer, imo, aimed to show all aspects of love: unrequited love, between family members and friends, best friends to lovers, in marriage, etc. - and was successful. Every character had its motivations and purpose in the show, as well as their own story, which is not always the case - gotta appreciate it. The second female lead was bitchy, but rationally, as in - I know what I want and I will get it, without some makjang, to borrow the word, plots, but frankly saying what she wanted to everyone.
But... certain side stories I found uninteresting, especially in the first part of the show. The story is not packed with a lot of action - yet still manages to convey the confusion and the change the leads experience. The last part of the show was a total soap, which I think could have been avoided, but didn't stop me from enjoying the series! I hate such soapy elements, but was too invested in the OTP story to care, honestly, heh.
Acting/Cast:
I loved the main actress, but the male lead was just competent and failed in some "emotional" scenes. Others were fine, except for the second female lead's father who overacted. A very big surprise was the male lead's boss whom I hated in the beginning, probably because of his story, but whom I loved in the end.
Music:
Excellent! Love the songs and especially appreciated the lyrics in English, very appropriate and picked with the scene in mind!
Rewatch value:
Yes, in a year ;) With fastforwarding through the uninteresting bits with side characters.

Also, there were several supporting characters that were interesting... Such as Secretary Kim! He, too, ships Sogong (in the drama)!
Overall... I would say this drama is a must-watch. The OST was really good and whenever they were played during the drama my tears would start gushing out! I'm still having drama withdrawal symptoms... The show' just awesomely good! Recommended to all!
(P.S I've been falling in love with So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin after watching the drama... And I still ship them!!!)

Acting is another aspect that is superior season as well. They all not all exceptional actors, but each did their character justice at the most needed moments. This season is more dramatic that's for sure. We actually have a vast cast here and the show manages to give us just enough to look into most of the characters. Many characters subtly proceeds in some unexpected way.
The aspect that is constant and exceptionally brilliant is music. That piano soundtrack carries your emotions swiftly from one scene to the next.
I've got so much to say but I don't want to say more because it is the type of drama that is better to dive in like I did, without even reading any synopsis. The only thing I knew about it was that it is Namonaki Doku's second season. One thing I have to disclose is that this drama can be very slow paced. Each episode has many actions happening, but in a more laid-back way which many may it find to slow.
That is all for now so I just want to end it using my favourite quote from the whole drama.
- Everything that ends is a genesis for the next event. -

I am not usually a fan of the more serious dramas. It was so dark in the first few episodes I almost quit watching it around the 6th episode... but I am so glad I hung with it, because it got so good after that. The story is really compelling, and I love how they reveal bits of the story as the lead characters are finding them out. I know I am not alone in hating misunderstandings in Dramas. I get so frustrated when you know character A never did what character B thinks they did, but it takes 3 episodes for character B to find out. In this one, everything everyone is doing makes sense based on what you know at the time.
The acting is amazingly good. I hated Bae Su Bin so much after this drama, I had a hard time seeing him as a sweet character after this drama. I am sure that is a compliment to his acting, although, I found him a bit over the top in a couple of scenes. I became a fan of both Ji Seong and Hwang Jung Eum after watching it the second and third time through. Seriously they deserve Oscars(or whatever the equivalent award in Korea is) for their performances. The scene where she crosses the street to get away from him is so good. I recommend this drama to everyone. Watch this when you want to be completely absorbed in the story and characters. It is not light viewing.

There was a lot of adorableness in the drama. I was drawn into the story and cared about the characters. I was really pleased with the lack of shrill voices and overacting, considering it is a Taiwanese drama. (I usually prefer Korean dramas) Really great cast, all around.
I was a little surprised about how the story ended. It was not your typical and they lived happily ever after ending. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more about the person the Robot was modeled after . Overall, it is still an interesting story. I would recommend it to people who like Jiro Wang, B Sci-fi, and unrequited love.

For me, this drama is a testament to just how wondrous and beautiful dramas can be when they build original stories and worlds, with unique, well-written characters.
Considering it dealt so closely with death and loss, it's amazing to think that it had me laughing and feeling giddy over the curious beauty of life every step of the way. If anything, I'd say this drama is about cherishing the people who brighten up your life and how to keep them in your heart even when they're gone. It's not often that I feel so deeply gratified with the life lessons a DRAMA taught me because, let's be real, we don't watch dramas for those reasons.
Now, I'm sure that with all this talk of how moving, heartfelt, and poignant this drama is, you might be fearing something else: That it's boring. IT'S NOT. In fact, this drama has a rather eccentric sense of humor, thanks to it's wonderfully quirky lead character. It is witty and hilarious and, frankly, employs a kind of subtle humor that I don't see often in dramas.
Each and every character, both leading and supporting, is wonderfully acted and written. Cha Tae-hyun's Ho-sang and Kang Hye-jung's Na Ha-na will likely always have a very special place in my heart. Kim Ji-hoon and Gong Hyun-joo are lovely as a pair of the greatest, and most supportive second leads you will ever see in a kdrama, ever.
And if I haven't convinced you with my praise of the acting and writing, let it be known that the director has a lovely artistic sense. I distinctly remember many clever shots that elevated even the simplest of scenes.
But, most importantly, let me stress this. This drama is not sad. It is, in fact, a drama that left me with an overwhelming sense of happiness. Did I cry my heart out? Yes. But I was also laughing at the sheer beauty of life. And, yes, if you saw me, I probably looked crazy, but, hey, that's just what this drama does to you.
Hana: What kind of flower did you come in search for?
Ho-sang: I don't know. You?
Hana: As for me, I probably came in search of Ho-sang.

I have never seen her in anything before, but I did NOT like Krystal in this role. I could be wrong, but it seemed like she was trying to emulate Park Shin Hye's acting style, but she did it poorly. The expressionless face, always speaking slowly in the low tones.... only works if your voice is rich and your eyes alone, can express more than one emotion .
I don't know how Korean Culture views this, but I had a big problem with the idea of a girl hooking up with her dead sisters fiance'. It is just not something I can feel sympathetic about. Even if he was my soul-mate and I didn't find out the connection until after I was pregnant with his child.I still wouldn't date my dead sister's boyfriend. lol... okay, I am exaggerating, but you get the idea. That said, the story itself would not have been as much of an issue, if the Chemistry between the leads was even remotely believable.
On a side note: I enjoyed L in this part, I hope to see him as a romantic Lead in the future. I also always love the second lead female in everything she is in, and would love to see her as the lead in a noona romance... maybe with L. That would be worth the watch.

I love the chemistry of the main leads. As a rom-com lover, I can say I got more than what I expected. There's so many cute and cuddly scenes.
The OSTs are good too.
Don't even think about not watching this drama cause I think you'll miss a pretty good one.

Please do not allow the hospital setting to frighten you away. Despite how one might find Shiroi Kage described, romance stands at its essential core. There are no episodic cases to suffer through, but rather three long term ones; each is a parallel to or foreshadowing element for the main plot. This then centers on the growing love between a secretive, Byronic doctor and the gentle nurse he first met—as if destined—at a riverbank beloved by both of them. Fear bars the way to happiness, but something direr might be lurking to separate the two forever. And no: it isn’t a family member, birth secret, or anything that springs up on you out of left field. The cues are laid out on the table early on, leaving the viewer to an involving “will they, won’t they?” that will leave one saying “Please do!” regardless of perceived consequences.
The couple in this series truly touched me. It helps that the drama itself seemed to indulge my desires in certain things. If I was think-shouting something (“Go after her!,” “Hold her, fool!” “He’ll be there when she turns around, watch,”) often it would come to pass. So many scenes between the two are memorable, enough that this series might have the most of any romance I've seen to date. Whether at the river or dredging up transient dandelions, I doubt I’ll forget any of them soon. Some even made me cry (just ask the poor friend who had to listen to my sniveling). There’s a certain feeling reminiscent of classic romance literature—specific character types, big emotion, grand gestures, ambitious theme combinations. But more than anything, through this pair, viewers will experience an elegant passage across the delicate issues of love, life, and death.
Shiroi Kage marks my second drama with both leads, Nakai Masahiro (Naoe-sensei) and Takeuchi Yuko (Noriko). As pleasurable as each first meeting was, in seeing them together I can be sure in my enjoyment of both. Here Nakai-san plays the type that weakens my knees—Byronic, dark, but loving and even vulnerable. He’s very much the “white shadow” of the title, both figuratively and literally; he wears a white lab coat, and is a decent person who seems to be hiding behind his own emotional darkness. Perhaps Nakai doesn't match my taste physically, but that never once stopped me from finding Naoe-sensei attractive. Takeuchi-san plays a character that snaps together wonderfully with the puzzle piece that is Naoe-sensei, but cannot be called complicated herself. Her Noriko is almost stunningly adorable and easy to like, yet she also exemplifies the female lead who often accompanies the Byronic hero. She is sweet, pure, constant, and a little bland—though there are moments of brilliance from the excellent Takeuchi-san. The rest of the cast does well enough, though I hate to say it: with the lead couple wonderful as they are, you may not notice much else.
I enjoyed the music for the most part. Though some of it is a bit dated, almost everything fits as it ought and the scenes are tied together nicely. My favorite instances are both vocals. First, the use of Neil Sedaka’s classic “Solitaire” was a genius choice. I cannot remember the last time I’ve heard an English song so well-utilized in a drama. Second is Shiroi Kage’s own theme: Mayonaka no Nightingale (“Midnight Nightingale”) sung with bittersweet passion by Takeuchi Mariya. The outro video which accompanies this song is exquisite—I caught it before ever starting the drama, and was impressed enough to expedite my watch plans.

The story is quite charming on the face of it - who doesn't love an underdog story? The characters also seem fully developed and thought out. However, the show falls short in its execution. I'm not sure what to attribute it to, the acting or the direction. I tend to attribute it to the direction, since the cast does feature some experienced and established actors who do a decent job with their characters. Especially Lee Seon Gyun and Lee Sung Min, who does provide moments of humour.
The use of the era of 1997 is significantly different from how it was used in the Answer Me series - it's now a lookback on childhood as an adult, instead of the process of getting to adulthood. What I did enjoy is how the main romantic relationship isn't expressed through in-your-face grandiose moments, but is written into little moments and it creeps up on you. I did hear good things about the team behind this show - I have not yet watched Pasta but I plan to, one day.
Lee Yeon-hee's acting skills improve vastly in this show as compared to the previous shows I've seen her in. However, she is definitely helped by the fact that she plays a well-formed, nuanced and relatable character, as well as playing opposite Lee Seon Gyun, who oozes charisma and stage presence. In fact, I'm thankful she isn't completely overshadowed by him in their scenes together. What I love about her character is her hardiness, her growth throughout the show and her sincerity which changes everyone around her by the end of the show.
Ms Ma is written well - on the outside she's a cold, professional and firm pageant expert, but on the inside, she is a principled woman. She sincerely cares for the welfare of every girl, and plays fair. Intellectually, I understand this, but emotionally, I initially found myself not compelled or moved by this character. Fortunately, by the end of the show, I fully understood Ms Ma and grew to love her too. The villain Yun was puzzling at times.
The show only really picks up from its "slump" in episode 9 or so. Before that, the company storyline to be on the brink of making progress but never makes any movement, which frustrated me. Thankfully the story does make good progress after episode 9 and it gradually grabbed my heart.
I enjoyed much of the background music, which brought out the bleaker tone of the era.

plot: the plot was incredible, it was thrilling, complex, and simple gorgeous. I loved how they made it really feel like you watched an entire life take places and watched as the character grew and matured with the difficulties life presented her with. some people may not watch it because its so ridiculously long, but trust me, when you start watching it, you'll want it to be longer. the plot threw quite a few twists and new developments so I never grew bored of it and I found myself cheering for the characters who stood for justice.
characters: loved the characters. they were all so brilliantly crafted with their own unique quirks and characteristics that I found it easy to remember even minor characters. Plus there is a certain richness in the characters and character relationships that only really long dramas can bring about so when tragedy strikes and someone dies, the tears just keep gushing out. I also loved how even the villians had depth to them so that you couldn't completely hate them and even felt pity for them. Even though I often cursed one of the characters in this and found myself wanting to rip her face off, I actually cried when she died. that's how awesome they developed their characters.
music: I really just want to hug whoever was responsible for the music in this drama. They did an AMAZING job. I loved all the soundtracks played in this, it was both haunting and beautiful. I would seriously rewatch this drama just to listen to the soundtrack. Towards the last few episodes, the soundtrack at the end was especially creepy and haunting which was fitting and just plain awesome.
In the end I would highly recommend people to watch and then re-watch this drama. A very heartwarming and at the same time heartbreaking tale of overcoming your obstacles and learning to forgive and value yourself. beautiful coming of age drama. its one of those that don't leave your mind for a while. Definitely going to watch this again.
