I enjoyed the beginnings - quirky, good cast, interesting storyline, et al. I found that as the story progressed it did somewhat lose track of the beginnings, but not terribly, and the main love affair kept on track very nicely. It differed enough from the real history of this king that I didn't worry about the kids (shown in the first episode) too much & just wondered about the resolution.
Well. What resolution, I ask myself after finishing this? What happened? How? I don't know. I highly suggest one NOT watch the last 10 minutes of the final episode. Make up your own ending & watch the credits roll. Go read the book, which has a satisfying, logical ending. Don't expect to have any questions answered by this sageuk :(

The first few episodes were really weak. But as a drama fan I've learned that you need to stick around for at least 3 to 5 episodes before you make any hasty decisions. (Most of the time.) The show was iffy up to episode 5. And then it kept yo-yoing me back and forth! There were some magical episodes there, but then suddenly the next one or so would flop! You're All Surrounded really hits it's stride at 10 and then settles in at 11.
Now I said writing was an issue. And it's true the first episode was soooooo heavy handed that I guessed everything then and there. As it progressed I had to assume the writers knew it was too obvious, so even the twist wasn't that much of a surprise. The biggest problem is that this show is supposed to be a comedy. But I wasn't laughing until after episode 5, and even then the humor seemed so out of place. Because this is a drama about a boy trying to find the murderer of his mother. The writers had no balance. Many an overly wrought drama have been able to make some dark and scary plots seem humorous. Yet You're All Surrounded could barely put any comedy in, balance it with the Masan School Nurse mystery that was the whole purpose of the show, doing tiny cases to show the newbies learning the ropes, and all the other stuff that was tossed in.
For instance the romance lost some of it's time here. They created some pretty cute ones with plenty of cues. It's fine that You're All Surrounded isn't one, I just hate that they setup all these ideas and places to go then take it no where. In the end I was happy with the romance, it was sweet. But the chemistry wasn't happening until later and then it would be forgotten.
This show couldn't multi task all of the plots for the story. Which is a true shame. And a lot of things were added into the mix, but then never explored and simply forgotten. The big twist didn't come until the last two episodes! Leaving some big questions for characters. Which in that time could never be answered. Not to mention the drama about Detective Seok! While moving it was not comedic, it was sad and heavy.
Another thing is the shooting of the show was awkward. The director was trying some new view points, but it didn't always work out. Fight scenes had this glass effect and even the most tenderest romantic scene had it. Where the camera was moving behind what seemed to be glass and there was a seam that would glare. It was distracting.
Also I feel like the STELLAR cast that I have been talking about was limited. Or more correctly held back by the director/writing. Most noticeably Lee Seung Gi's. I understand that his character became cold because of his mission and such. But as I watched Lee I felt like he was trying to add more, but couldn't until the end. Which is a shame because I ended up not liking his character for half the show. He was given dramatic fist clenches, angry shirt grabs, single tears, boring dramatic stares, and limited smiles. It was painful to watch. Thankfully his character developed in the other half.
The actors here are impressive ones. Which despite the limitations that seemed to be put on the characters, they shined. Even the newbies! Which I'm looking forward to seeing in other dramas. (Ahn Jae Hyeon, yeah. He rocked.) Cha Seung Won was noticeably the best.
Maybe it was because Cha Seung Won's character, Seo Pan Seok, was given the most development and growth. It was crazy because he was this annoying and depressing boss telling these kids they would never become detectives. He would do everything he could to make them quit! Then once they earned his grudging respect he did a 180! He became overly moody, with a tragic past! So tragic that he tosses himself on the ground a lot. Strangest thing is that he became the comedic relief. Which was good considering all of his painful scenes. Cha made me feel his pain and then laugh at his goofiness. And I've never seen Cha so freaking cute. No really. So cute. Adorable even.
The music was excellent. The OST is probably what definitely helps You're Under Arrests likeability. Good music can make a lot of things better, especially when well placed.
You're All Surrounded is definitely a rush. For being 20 episodes it flew by! Especially after the first 5 were behind. Only a few scenes got drug out, but then the rest was a breeze. Which is probably why the bad plotting, predictability, and inability for this show to blend its multitude of ideas together didn't seem quite that bad. It's fun, and when it finally actually had some comedy the laughs were great. Especially the ending scenes. The amazing talent of the actors here made the most shallow of characters interesting and it's a shame the show couldn't develop them and the links they all had more. It was fun.

Story is very romantic, even though it was about unhuman but i don't see the male lead as unhuman at all, i can related to him right away after i watched for 5 episodes, a guy with his personality actually has in our world, this was the part i like about this drama more than other k-drama that i found the male lead is always stupid at some point. But this one is one good example for a real world when you really fall in love with someone you are willing to do everything to the girl you like. When you don't say some words that doesn't mean you didn't feel it but it just the way it is for some certain people, i'm also one that kind too so i like this drama more because somehow it speaks out for me what i thought in my mind.
The cast was brilliant i have no negative point to point out here.
One of lovely and must watch k-drama. If some of J-drama fans get little bored please check this one out and you can always go back to watch your j-drama anytime, just to change your mood and setting a bit with k-drama wouldn't hurt.

Now coming to my favorite Teacher Dong Jo. He was sooooo cool and only normal person on the show kekeke who unfortunately fell for Gumiho. His part is super sad, I wished he would have ended up with someone cool or just ANYONE because I do not like the idea of his being alone for another thousands of years TT-TT
Acting was so cute, funny and really good overall but for me Director Ban and Min Sook were best when it came to acting =p
Music was soooooooooo good. Especially 'Trap by No Minwoo' and its instrumental. I was goner for this one. Other OSTs were really lovely too =3
Rewatch value is 5 for all those scenes between Gumiho and Dae Wong because they were adorable together and funny too. A perfect comedic and romantic couple =3
Overall I gave 7.5 points just because I was super heartbroken because of Dong Joo and because the ending was a bit clumsy.

Some might say that the storyline is cheesy. (Which kind of is, that's why I love it) But that doesn't mean that the Drama is boring to watch.
The chemestry between the actors is perfect and that makes it believable. On top of that, the cast is just great. I can't wait to watch more Dramas and Movies of Jang Hyuk! (and of course Jang Na Ra)
The music is beautiful, too. The only thing about it is that they play it over and over. Even at moments where they don't really match the story. (By that I mean that the lyrics of the songs don't match with some situations of the drama) Other than that I think that the songs are beautiful.
Over all I really loved to watch it and I'm sure I will watch it again, some other time. This drama is really romantic. It made me laugh, and it made me cry.
I really recommend it!

My review has some spoilers. Shine or go crazy had an amazing potential and a solid good start. It has a very good cast, but especially two amazing actors: Lee Duk Hwa and Jang Hyuk But the drama kind of got ruined by some seriously flowed plots, script and bad directing. I was not happy with the acting either.
Personally I’m a bit disappointed with this drama, since it’s not meant to strictly follow historical facts why not please the audience with a feel good ending? Also, so very few likable characters to the point that I started to dislike even the main characters.
Anyway, the drama didn’t bore me, but I ended up watching without excitement or anticipation. For instance there were too many occasions where the hero Wang So was turned into a puppet. Also, Wang So had this incredible conviction that his brother the king had this great potential to rule the nation. Now, it’s okay to believe that since Wang So had to live in exile from an early age and he didn’t really know his brother that well. But there is a time when you realize that your brother is indeed a loser. Change strategy. Because you see 90% of this drama is about protecting this very inept King.
The gender bender was okay at the beginning. It made sense because you have a business woman dressing up to protect herself while she does some business in a man’s world. But then, why dragging it for so long? It didn’t improve the story, or made it more exciting.
The love story between the second leads…Omg kill me softly. You have a true vicious woman here. So be prepared.
There were too many useless sacrifices from lovers…etc.
Will I re-watch this drama again? I don’t think so, but I'll give a 6 because after all this drama has . entertained me.

This drama has some over acting from all the actors, but I think that they were directed to act that way. Other wise why would they all be overly dramatic? Then there are some well acted parts like diamonds in the rough.
I am a Jang Hyuk fan and I believe he gave the performance that was expected of him as Prince Wang So. Regardless of the directing he is still handsome, funny, serious, and sincere as needed. A lot of people say that Oh Yeon Seo has had too much plastic surgery. Maybe she has, but it seems that she has no problem expressing her emotions and I enjoyed her character as Shin Yool. That is where it stops. Lee Ha Nui as Yeo Won was just too wooden and even when she cried it seemed insincere. Her back story make since as to why the character would be cold, etc, but there is a difference between that and Pinocchio. Im Joo Hwan failed miserably as Wang Wook. His acting was really bad and he mostly looked like he was in drag. He is no rival to Jang Hyuk that is for sure.
There is some music that I liked.
I will never ever rewatch this.
I do not recommend this to anyone. Not even sageuk lovers.

So my friends saw this drama and they hyped it so much that we had to see it together. We marathoned watched 10 episodes and when I came home I continued on my own. Two days later I was done with all episodes. For me its very unusual to have an drama marathon and that says alot about how good it was!The story of the drama and the acting of all of the roles is such an great match it must have been made in heaven. I can not emphasise enough on how good of an actor Ji Sung is. He manage to make 7 different characters very easy to different from each other and put all of them in one body. I have not seen his acting before so I was surprised to say I found one of my new favorite actors. I think he has so much talent and he makes the drama and his role almost creepily good. I must say he makes the drama even though the other actors of course gives him a lot of help. Especially Hwang Jung Eum as the female lead, whom also shows off great acting in this drama.
The story is well written and has so many details showing up episode after episode. I was afraid that it would be too many strings to handle but without giving any spoilers I would say the director managed it very good at the end. I think that even though you could say this is an wrong way of showing an disease it was an very good try. I think the script made it justice even though it also had a lot of humor to it. Be prepared to laugh thru most of the episodes even though it hold alot of seriousness!
I would see this drama again just to see Ji Sung’s gold worth acting and also go back to the memories with my favorite character mr.Shin!
I absolutely think you should give this drama a try, it will probably surprise you!

The flaw was in the first kissing scenes i cringed, i mean how long does it take to reach the lips infront of you. It felt like 30 minutes of looking into each others eyes and tilting and closing and opening eyes and bla bla, shin se ki wouldn't waist time.
Its an overall great story with less evil and annoying exes/family. Alot of laugh out moments from perry park and yo na (gi ji be)
Another thing i noticed is whenever shin se ki is around or close to ri jin, a specific music will come on. Which suited the moment esp last episode. (Jang jae in ft nashow - auditory hallucination) Episode 17 was like ripping off a bandaid, thats when the whole truth comes out and lots of tears.
this is the summary of the personalities.
Cha do hyun - main, calm, levelheaded
shin se ki -. Wolf, badass, hot
Perry park- flashy, accent, makes bombs
ahn yo seob - 17yrs, twin, suicidal
ahn yo na- twin girl, teenager, hilarious
na na - little girl, teddy bear
mr x - nana's dad, magician

I felt like leaving it in the starting two episodes because it wasn't making any sense but finally the plot started getting stronger and by the end I was crying with the characters. The story overall was SUPER. I am a big crazy fan for family stories and this one got me bad. Though I loved it but I didn't agree with all the aspects they showed in the drama. For once I really didn't like most of the decisions Ki Yeong made.
Yes married life isn't easy but its the life that you make and not everyone's life turns out to be the same. If she saw fault in Tae Yun's family, she should have tried to change it not turn her back. I apologize to those readers and viewers who think otherwise ;)
The acting was AMAZING. I started this drama because of No MinWoo and once again he stole the show. He was super amazing though his character was annoying and I badly wanted to whack him here and there. Shi Yeon unni was another best of the best. She played role of an awesome mother and anchor. I loved listening to her delivering the news =3
Music was reaaaaaaaaaalllly good. It was funny in first few episodes but as the story progressed and became more serious, so did the music.
Rewatch value is high because of the last 8 episodes. When Dan came into everyone's lives, the drama stole many hearts (watched it with my family that is why ;) )

I don't really know the cast of this drama at all at first until i happened to accidentally crossed way to this drama currently airing at that time, and since i was bored i gave it a try, and it never disappoints me. The male lead was promising for me, i literally cried with him. His character was the saddest yet strongest character ever in kdrama land. Now i became his fan because of this drama. Lee Dong Wook is a best actor! Even the villain is a best actor. The mother was also daebak! She's just an amazing actress for me. Hands down to the actress Kim Hae Sook! And i also like the female lead. Overall, the cast , the plot, the music..all were amazing. I basically will recommend it to anybody! It's a must watch!
