Plus, there was a total overuse of dramatic music like soaring choruses.
As the show progressed, I appreciated the storytelling style of the writer, where we are thrown into the moment of the story, but we also get to understand the background and history between different characters through their eyes.
What I really liked about the story is how the characters shift and morph through the course of the show, in terms of their motivations and their allegiances. Sometimes I can feel that the writers are toying with our allegiances to the characters, but I was willingly ‘manipulated’ because it was enjoyable to see the characters choose how to play their chess pieces.
My favourite is probably the relationship between Kim Rae-won and Jo Jae Hyun’s characters. So complex, compelling and heartbreaking all at the same time. Great performance by both actors too.
Another thing that annoyed me about the show is the very unrealistic portrayal of the legal system and prosecutors. I am familiar with legal systems but not so much with the Korean legal system. Even then, I’m pretty sure this is pretty unrealistic. In any case, it’s a drama, not real life, so I’ll drop this point.
And my gripe about overuse of dramatic music remains. While there are definitely many twists and turns in the story within every episode, I became extremely desensitised to these twists and turns because every scene would use the same dramatic music.
Overall, an enjoyable thriller.

I'll never forget The cat, fox and Lioness, them together gave us a lot of fun.
Kim soo Jin was a cute character, I just love how simple and warm she was. And of course I can't forget to talk about Directo Jo, He just appear and became my fav character in this drama, I love how smart and honest he was.
It was a shame they cut some episodes the story can be much better, but I still liked it.
This was simple, catchy and funny. I really enjoyed it.

Characters: My favorites were Han Chaewon, Seo Jinu & Han Minhyeok, I loved everything about them! <3 I'd fall in love with Jinu so easily^^ and Minhyeok is a definite candidate too with his intelligent, strong and smart good looks ^^ Jinu has lots of emotional wounds ground into him from his father, he's a doctor and a really loyal son, who is sweet, compassionate, loving and smiles a lot :D Chaewon is "the happy virus" lol as her friend calls her^^ She's strong, independent and very loving, when she sets her mind to something she doesn't let it go (stubborn if you will) :P Her character never got weak or worn down, she had strong beliefs and made sure people understood that. She stands her ground well. I loved her the most! Minhyeok is Chaewon's brother and he too grows up with lots of emotional wounds but that doesn't change who he is or how he acts - I loved that no matter how someone in his family treated him, he would still be loyal to them and love them, he isn't greedy and is very well-mannered (a gentleman one might say), He doesn't trust people easily (which is actually a good thing in his profession). I felt for each of these characters, I'd cry with them and smile with them! I laughed quite a lot too - especially when it came to Jinu & Chaewon ;P
There is also Cha Kyeongju, her character feels like a victim and since she has this "victim mentality" she does things that she thinks she has a right to b/c "the world owed her", I liked her and didn't like her at the same time, I felt for her at times and wanted to kick her butt other times lol I could never fully hate her (honestly she never did anything that ticked me off that much - sure she did bad things and things you can't brush off or ignore, things she never should have done - but she did know when to back off on certain things. I even cried with her a little at the end.
The supporting characters were good and enjoyable to watch as well (I didn't skip anyone ever or any scene) I got slightly annoyed with Jingu's childish acts and his wifes constant complaining but they were amusing at time too. I never warmed up to their daughter Jina (such a crybaby >_<) I'm glad she wasn't shown too often. Jinhui was really adorable, a bit of a troublemaker, but she'd laugh all the time and her voice when she sings is So BEAUTIFUL!!! I loved her song "To My Dad" that she sings later in the series^^ The grandmas is hilarious and adorable^^ The Dad made me mad so many times with how he treats his kids -_- I wanted to speak up for his kids whenever the dad would say or do mean things to them and when he wouldn't listen to them I wanted to yell at him to shut up and LISTEN!!! His kids, even if they get hurt by him, are really filial towards him, which I found impressive!
Music: The intro song by C-Real is really cutesie (and i love cutesie intro songs to my daily dramas lol) I loved one song the most though : "Have You Listened" by Yu Seung Chan and Jangeunsuk "Reason to Live" (it was only played one time but I liked it and it really brought the emotions of the moment). There was another song that was only played a few times by RH? and it was really pretty too (but i can't find it) and Jinhui's "To My Dad" song was really beautiful^^
I will more than likely re-watch this drama at some point lol <3 and I definitely recommend it to people who love these kinds of long dramas^^

(Beware though, because the whole Jae Hee/Ma Ru fiasco might just drive you nuts, and the ending is ever so slightly disappointing.)
However, whilst Innocent Man appears to be an external drama - with the plot affecting the characters - at its core it's an intensely internal drama. Typical outward gestures are turned on their heads because the audience doesn't actually know if these outward gestures are sincere are not. This is especially the case with Kang Ma Ru - whose own personal struggles make it difficult for him to even realise his own sincerity. It is definitely incredibly difficult to discern whether one should be rooting for him or not which causes huge amount of internal conflict and drama. I guess that's part of the reason why Innocent Man is so good - the internal and external conflict bounce off of each other, with plot driving the characters and vice versa.
The main highlight of the drama was definitely the cast. We've got three very brilliantly written, troubled and complicated characters. A fail performance could ruin them. But that didn't happen; instead we got nuanced performances from all three actors who convincingly portrayed the highs and lows of these multi-faceted characters.
However, special mention goes to SONG JOONG KI who was absolutely - excuse my foul language - fucking fantastic as the engima that is Kang Ma Ru. His performance never faltered. Song managed to captivate Kang Ma Ru's character development in way that is just unimaginably perfect. He IS Kang Ma Ru the naive genius who is head-over-heels in love with his noona. He IS Kang Ma Ru the tortured, embittered and selfish player who'll do anything for revenge. Song doesn't even need to speak to convey the emotions or state of thought that Ma Ru is in - one can just see it if they are to look into his eyes. I can't even imagine any other actor being able to successfully play a role as complex as Kang Ma Ru (who is a genius that actually feels like a genius throughout the whole show, although that has more to do with the skill of the writer rather than the actor. But, then again, SJK is a genius himself). It's probably a career defining performance for Song Joong Ki.
Innocent Man is a polished and sophisticated drama that draws you in with its unpredicatable, fast-paced and addictive plot. The leads may messed up to the highest degrees, but they're compelling and human - the performances successfully captivate the sheer complexity of the characters, allowing the audience to believe that such people could exist in real life (no matter how unrealistic their situations are).
P.S. I watched Innocent Man in one sitting. Me, who never misses sleep, missed sleep for this and boy do I have no regrets.

I have to say one of the strong points in the drama is that it has a solid plot, and is it fast paced. There is always something happening so I don't ever remember it being draggy, which a very important factor. Nothing can bring the drama down more than the feeling that nothing is happening and the story is going round and round. Thankfully that wasn't the case for this drama. Another point I liked was the costume, decoration, and makeup used throughout different stages of the main characters' life. I like the colours used and the different hairstyles. What was annoying was the dubbing, which would prevent me from evaluating the acting fairly, but I think in the very least, it was decent overall.
If I am to talk about characters however, that is my main issue with the drama. First of all, other than about 6-7 characters, all surounded by the main love story, and all the others were no more than extras. second of all, to put simply, most characters's way of thinking and actions did not make sense to me whatsoever, which totally disconnected my feelings for this drama. I'm saying this mainly about Pei Lin, Jing Wan and Jin Zhi. Their emotions are too reckless and volatile. Sometimes it felt more like lust and possessiveness rather than "love". Even when in love, their priorities were all over the place. It was hard for me to empathize when most of the time I was rolling my eyes.
The process that Jian Zhang went through was actually interesting, but I felt they didn't go deep enough. I think his character would've been portrayed better if they had given more character to his siblings. The Doctor was my favourite but mostly because he was the voice of reason in this drama, telling the characters exactly what's on my mind. Unfortunately none actually listened to him. One character I really liked and cared for was Pei Lin's sister. Unfortunately she was casted on the side.
For all those reasons, the show overall felt uneven. There were great episodes and there were not so great ones. By the time I got to the ending, I had lost any emotion left for the characters, and did not care much for the outcome.
As for music, it was fine overall, but there was one song that was played when some characters are in agony that felt too modern and out of place.
Overall, if you love dramas all about intense love and romance, you may find exactly what you're looking for here and may find it decent to boot. If you're looking for a more realistic story, with logical characters, about somewhat fitting pracmatic leader, this may not be the drama for you as it wasn't for me.

The cast are great. I think I can fill a bucket if I gathered all the tears that the lead female dropped LOL.

Story: the story is nothing new. Typical revenge/birth secret plot where everything is overturned by the end. Here things were presented in a stereotypical yet innovative way, that I often find in old kdramas. Things were told step by step and even in the end some things were left unsaid, perhaps to let the viewer imagine. The whole plot was very ambiguous. The characters had their own strong or dull way to deliver their feelings. Most of the times, especially in the latest episodes, the main leads above all were silent and didn't talk for loooooong. That, despite is a way to have dialogue, annoyed me so much. I get that silence can be meaningful, but perhaps that is not my piece of cake. I'd rather have the characters talk and conclude something than being silent for 20 minutes. Maybe I am an idiot, who knows! But I don't think so. I just believe silence was overused in here, and it can annoy so much. Wow, how many times did I say annoy in this paragraph?
Acting: This is the only high value of this review. Despite the story being blah (even tho it was handled okay), the acting was superbe. SJS is always the best when it comes to melodrama and his "omg, I have so much complexes inside of me" - face - is perfect. He made his Cha Moo Hyuk character really deep and complicated that you always wondered what was going on in his head. He made him look very unpredictable, which is cool because it gives the audience more surprises. JKH despite being only 21-22 in this drama, also did a good job. He has such a beautiful smile and he is able to show a lot of emotions through it, because you know, a smile can also be bitter and sad. All the times I have seen him, he trasmitted me joy or sadness according to what his character felt. This male pair was awesome, I regret that perhaps they didn't get enough screentime together. The female protagonists also acted well, but honestly they didn't make me become a fan of theirs. Most of the time ISJ's Eun Chae was like Moo Hyuk, she was unpredictable and it annoyed me how she behaved. I understand she loved both guys the same way, but she had to choose at some point.
Music: Okay. The instrumental songs on the piano were cool and I also like Choi Yoon's song very much.
Rewatch Value: I would rewatch this only if paid. I ended up bored and as if I lost my time watching this. I can take melodrama, makjang, thriller, but this was too much. I can't put up with the ending, I felt totally unsatisfied. It has meaning, of course, but I still find it MEH. The only drama that left me like this was What Happened in Bali, casually SJS did this in the same year of Sorry I Love You. If you have watched that one and were rolling your eyes at the ending, you may do it again with this, so don't watch!

One of the most interesting aspect for me is the setting. The manga world itself is set in cheap pub, while the setting of the humans is a small village with a small community. In many instances I wondered if that setting itself if part of someone else's work. For what we think is reality is someone else's fiction. The funny thing is, every time I wonder how things would go if this event happen, or that event happen, or when I try to interpret certain things, or think of a certain solution, the drama always tend to explore these question and give me an answer. Of course there is no definite answer, just a possibility and closure.
Another aspect is the way the characters are written. There was very careful attention given to many subtle details that define each character. On the human side there's the protagonist Echizen, who is filled with self-hatred and disappointment with the world. Her journey to self discovery and appreciation was slow, but every once in a while there was a huge step forward. Other than her there is her co-workers that each has an interesting personality. Yuriko was fun, playful and very attentive. Behind her happy-go-lucky facade there is a deep scar and regret. Kiyomi is also worth mentioning, or maybe I should call her Akuma. Always angry, she doesn't seem pleasant to be around at first, when in truth she is the most heartwarming of the human characters. She just hate it when people aren't being honest as she is, making it hard for her to open her heart. She challenges her Echizen all the time, probably seeing worth in her more than Echizen sees in herself. On the manga character side there is Nakuna of course. He's an emotional lad. Always expressing himself freely. He's extremely loyal and trusting, and as innocent as a child. I could say all his manga family has the same innocence for the same reason, but not all are this trusting. Each one of them is adorable with a distinct personality.
If I were to talk about the acting, they were perfectly casted to say the least. Most note worthy is Nagase Tomoya. That guy loves to overact, but it never bothers me because he knows which role to choose that makes overacting, if not just okay, but even demanded. Aso Kumiko was also perfect. She smiles a lot, but you can detect the forced from the genuine. Kutsuna Shiori has this gift of being a very lovely despiteful person. I'm telling you that's a gift. another noteworthy is a personal favourite of mine, Okunuki Kaoru as Yuki. She's elegant and wise, but so cute when clueless. Yasuda Ken appearing as a guest in an episode was the most touching.
Overall it was a nice, light, charming, sweet comedy with a lot of heart. The setting and light used makes it perfect watch while having an afternoon tea. It may not be for everyone's liking as some may find it boring and a bit over the top, but if you look deeply, you may find an, I'll bet well hidden, gem.

The story:
Promising. It's a great supernatural plot that I would love to see extended into a good 16 or 20 episode full-length drama. Again, because of the allotted episodes and time limits, the plot is extremely rough and very choppy, to the point where I had no idea who some characters were because I hadn't spent enough time with them to actually fit them into a relationship chart with Dae-young. How does he know this person? Oh, an episode later, turns out she's a classmate of his. Little things like these could have been explained better, but again, cutting some slack.
Characters/Acting:
I haven't seen Kim Dong Jun before, and I admit I don't listen to ZE:A, but I like his style. He actually looks like a high schooler (unlike Lee Min Ho and Kim Woo Bin... casting 101 people), and when he's with In-ho he really acts like one. His facial expressions were amusingly overdone but I feel like I'd probably be making similar faces if people were suddenly very pale with glowing eyes. The antagonist, Kim Jun Ku.... very enigmatic. We don't get much of him at all, and to me it was like a very sudden... HUH? when his true colors were shown. And, again, cutting slack here, but I think that, even in the small amount of time allowed, we could have gotten a little more from him. Hopefully, in Season 2 (I wrote this before watching it to avoid foreknowledge tampering with how I viewed this show as a Season 1) he'll be fleshed out a little; just a bit more, and I'll be happy. The supporting cast is fun, and Hee-kyung looks like a fun girl to hang out with (though not quite if you're hanging out on the roof of a building...)
Music:
I suppose because the episodes are so short the ending song seems overdone, and played even when the cliffhanger isn't really that much of a cliffhanger, but the slower songs behind the romantic scenes was nice and enjoyable.
Rewatch value:
Should a (doubtful) larger drama come of this, I do intend to skim through again. But probably not something to pick up again on a whim. Or maybe it's just me and the fact that I don't really rewatch my not-so-favorite dramas, this being one of them. There are definitely better dramas, but for a quick watch with an entertaining cast and plot, I'd give it a go. :)

I'm a scardy cat n I can never watch scary movies or dramas by myself. Luckily, I got my cousin to watch this with me n I'm glad we watched it. We marathon it in 2 days n we do not regret not sleeping.
What a unique story cuz there's not very many of these type of dramas in kdrama land. Actually, I don't recall watchin anything like this. Being haunted can't even imagine how that would feel. But oh LOOK, there's a safe haven. It's a super hot CEO. Gosh I love meaningful stories. You help others in order for them to move on cuz it rly means a lot w unfinished business. There's this rly sexy guy who can protect u from these scary stuff. Who doesn't get freak out especially girls!!
Come on!! It's so ji sub and gong hyo Jin. They're the daebak actors of kdrama industry!! They can act no doubts.
Ost is perfect for this drama!! The feels the feels
I would love to watch this again but I can't rly watch it without a buddy. It's scary alright but as u get use to it, u find it cool n amazing. They're so flawless make up!! Except popping out of nowhere can freak the heck out of human kind.
This is rly a masterpiece n u gotta watch it no matter what.

Of course, this drama is super overrated. Hey, u can't blame anyone. They're celebs. We r fans. That means we are willing to watch them cuz they shine extremely brightly somehow in the midst of darkness. What have I done? I'm not watching this for a good story, it's jst a starter. It's jst a pretty cover of kdramas. It's best for newbies like I use to be. It will introduce everyone to all the popular n pretty faces of Korean dramas.
Tbh, I watch this cuz of the eye candies. They were all good looking. Big names of Korea. Everyone was popular actors, singers, models!! Who cares about the story. It's gonna be cliche anyways n we all know it. But we still choose to watch it cuz it's beautiful.
Starting a drama in america's wonderful dreamland of LA Hollywood. Heck yea so smart!! Dream catchers that captured our minds n hearts into a dreamworld of eye candies. We are all dreaming in this midsummer.
Of course it was a waste giving all these talented actors a dumb script to follow. They could do way better cuz they are capable of way more. The music was the best part of this drama they were so calming for a hot summer. It makes u feel n dream n wish. Like finding serendipity n LOVe is the moment LOL!!
I recommend this to everyone actually. This shows what a bad story is. This shows what eye candies are. I highly recommend this to beginners of kdrama world. I got my mom to watch kdramas by getting her to watch this drama. She enjoyed it cuz of the eye candy n of course ost!!
No one will hate on sexy hot guys n girls. No one will hate on fantastic soothing music. No one truly cares about a perfect story wo any plot holes cuz nothing is perfect. We all love cliche stuff that is why they are cliche.
If anyone wants to start kdramas or persuade others to join this world of kdrama, HEIRS is the opportunity!!

I love time traveling dramas. It's rly not real but it could be one day or it's already possible but we jst don't know about it. I have wondered if there was someone who time travels to modern world n we would fall in love. That would be so sweet n bubbly cute like a dreamy dream.
Yea he story is not believable but so watchable n enjoyable. This historical guy comes n we magically meet cuz we r destined to fall in love. He gets hurt all the time n he vanish in thin air n appears out of no where. I try to hide the fact that I love him but he is irresistible. When he's gone, I miss him so much!! Is it possible for him to stay forever to be w me?
Cute n bubbly acting!! Too much chemistry probably cuz they truly loved each other before. They r real lovers once upon a time. Can't get enough of this adorable drama that is so colorful!!
I've seen the Chinese version as well n I can say they're both rly cute but this one can not be replaced.
