Komorebi is not a word, it's a feeling!

Komorebi{ 木漏れ日 } is the Japanese word for sunlight, which is filtered through the leaves of the trees. In particular, it means the visible light rays. “Komorebi” is composed of several parts of the word: “Ko” means tree or trees. “More” means: something that comes through, something that shines through or seeps through. “Bi” means: sun or sunlight. The word “Komorebi” reflects the romantic and emotional love of the Japanese for nature. Komorebi is that feeling, walking through the forest in the morning when the day wakes up or the afternoon when the sun goes down and the sun shines through the trees. When the sunlight kisses the ground. This light wind, this smell, this unique moment that makes every morning a special morning.

This short movie is just like that: it is all about feelings! Sometimes things not need to be said, just alluded to and felt!

The story tells of tergiversations of a man: he would like to tell his mother about being in love and getting married to his boyfriend but is afraid, he thinks he's going to hurt her if he comes out to her. But as the story progresses, we see the looks she keeps giving them and by the end we realize she knows without ever having been told. And of course, there are the socks....

The feelings are everything here: insecurities, love, kindness, understanding, possibilities, hope, happiness. The mother expresses all of these with a look, a gesture, a smile. Everything is so subtle so one needs to pay attention.

Nice short watch about how parents can unexpectedly and pleasantly surprise us when we are dealing with difficult issues.

"People's fates take such strange turns"

Going into a film titled The Crucified Lovers, it was a safe bet that the romance was not going to be filled with sunshine and roses. Mizoguchi took the 17th century ideals of honor and tradition and tore them open exposing the hypocrisy and cruelty underneath.

Osan was a young woman married to a man thirty years her senior. Ishun was a wealthy owner of the printing company that supplied the Imperial court with calendars. Mohei was Ishun's right hand man who was nearly worked to death in his job. Otama served the family and was the target of Ishun's unwanted nightly advances. Though Ishun offered Otama her own house, spent lavishly on court officials and loaned important people large sums of money, he was unwilling to spare what amounted to pocket change to Osan's brother to save the family home. His miserly short-sightedness and lecherous ways along with Osan's brother's spendthrift habits would bring down both families while blaming it on others.

When Osan and Mohei were caught together in a completely innocent situation, Ishun accused them of adultery and ordered Osan to kill herself. He planned to have Mohei arrested for stealing his seal. The situation played right into Ishun's plan to rid himself of Mohei who was Otama's love interest. Mohei escaped and Osan fled, incidentally meeting up later. After attempting to leave the area with men on their trail, they decided to commit suicide at a lake. When Mohei confessed his love for her, she returned it and decided to live. Much of the rest of the film played out like The Fugitive with the couple on the run, constantly being chased. They were turned away by family who feared culpability in their crimes. Ishun wanted the situation handled quietly so his business would not be ruined by scandal. What he didn't know was that his own traitorous worker was feeding information to his rival. After the couple was captured and refused to be parted everything came unraveled for the master printer. Not only did his rival revel in his downfall, but the many noblemen who owed copious amounts of money to him hastened his ruin. The lovers went to their doom hand in hand serenely smiling finally free from the cruel constraints of the world they lived in.

Mizoguchi framed much of the film in tight restrictive spaces. Only when the lovers committed to staying together in the mountains did the spaces open up freeing them to breathe. Kagawa Kyoko was ethereal as the traditional wife, Osan. As Osan was forced to live on the run, Kagawa showed her fear, despair, and then a love that lifted her spirits above their dire situation. Hasegawa Kazuo was 23 years older than Kagawa but was able to convey the loyalty to his master's family and his conflicted love for Osan as well.

The lovers were not only guilty of adultery but also crossing class lines which was a serious violation in and of itself. The hypocrisy that men could sleep with anyone they wanted while a woman caught in adultery was literally crucified if her husband didn't kill her first was brought to the fore. As the female servants reacted to two lovers being paraded to their deaths, they wondered what horrific crime they had committed to suffer one of the most awful deaths. They hadn't killed anyone. While Osan and Mohei were initially innocent, Ishun's activities were reprehensible from the start. Had Ishun been willing to pry his purse open for a family member and kept his hands to himself, this entire tragedy might have been avoided. No one seemed to care about Osan and Mohei's fate, compassion was far outweighed by a rigid class and social system that had no room for error when it came to misbehaving women.

The Crucified Lovers aka A Tale from Chikamatsu ran the gamut of emotions as Mizoguchi tackled social traditions and gender rules. Beautifully filmed and well-acted, the tragic story of two falsely accused people who briefly found love and happiness across class lines and on the run was a challenging but rewarding film to watch.

Although idealistic, but a good one. I honestly liked this movie.

The story of two young students in the police university set off from a good start. They came here with different start and they both have youthful vigour (which was shown through wonderful acting), yet during the process also get confused about their future. This question of "what to do next?" or "what am I going to do with my life" came to many of us and both of them don't know what to do, what are the prospects. And only witnessing the kidnapping of a young girl pulls them out from the quagmire. What to do? No witness, no evidence, they couldn't chase the vehicle and even the dispatch of a search team and help is impossible, after all all available units are disatched on the search of some mogul's kid. The reality hits hard, what is the life of a kidnapped girl compared to a person with status. Both decide to hold on and investigate themselves and spend the most critical time searching, thus spending the night running around. Thus the title of this movie, I actually really like the title Midnight Runners, it is simple and true to what is happening and I'm not a fan how they interpreted it as "Young Cops" in my language.. after all except for the word ' young' calling them 'cops' feels incorrect, they're still students and the title is too general.

Although the horrids of reality were downplayed, after all the main aim of this movie is to not be realistic and overly depressing, but I must say.. the criminal world is still scary. That is why I said that it was idealistic, I bet in the real world they unfortunately wouldn't have seen the next day. Unless they're Liam Neeson.
But what happened awakened their passionate heart to do what they think is the right thing, despite the consequences. They couldn't turn the blind eye and live knowing that if they leave it to others, then who knows what will happen to the victims.

This movie has that youthful passion of doing what you believe in, because you're young, because you have guts.

On a closing note once again my compliments to the actors, they were great. Came here for Park Seo Joon and stayed for a good watch. Thank you.

Drowning Love

The story does a fantastic job of framing the game of pushing and pulling that follows Natsume's run-in with Koh. This game still has a lighthearted element, but it also subtly reveals that it is harmful because it involves playing with people's emotions. In addition to the humor, the story excels at capturing the childishness, possessiveness, and insecurity that falling in love results in. Note that Natsume requires Koh's presence. Although the first half of the story is obviously somewhat exaggerated.

Great

Everyone should watch this movie. There was no better way, in my opinion, to depict a first love or the value of friendship. I've seen a lot of dramas and love stories, but I believe "20th century girl" captures the innocence of first love the best. A little portion of the reason why the movie is so amazing is the method by which the viewer comes to understand Bora and her character throughout the film. One of the clearest and most genuine portrayals of character development I have seen in a while is hers. Overall, every character is written so genuinely that one can comprehend their decisions and ideas, not just hers.

When everything has returned to dust, who was the one you gave your heart

The classical story of painted skin by Pu Songlin tells story of a fox spirit who falls in love with a already married general. In this rendition Xiao Wei (Ding Chengxin) the fox spirit is a boy. Pei Rong and general Wan Sheng are married but Pei Rong, the lady is the general here.

Amongst a beautiful setting, and exquisite cinematography is a story that is sure to tug at heartstrings. The melancholic theme of this short film manages to get you attach to the characters in just thirty minutes, something regular length dramas often struggle to achieve.

General Pei Rong (Wang Churan) finds a abandoned boy and brings him home where she lives with her wounded husband Wang Sheng (He Changxi). Unbeknownst to them, this boy is actually the heart-eating fox demon Xiao Wei. He wants to replace his own heart with Wang Sheng's, let him take the blame so he can live with Pei Rong.

“It took Xiao Wei thousand years to learn how to fall in love, but he did not know it takes two people to be in love”

There is grey area in this film. All the stolen glances and longing gazes makes you wonder who is actually love with whom. At the end Xiao Wei gives Wang Sheng a lock of hair supposedly Pei Rong's so they can be together in the next life. But this lock actually belongs to himself. So who is it that Xiao Wei loves? And why would Wang Sheng let him have his own heart? The film does not explicitly tell you that. But that is the beauty of subtlety, you have to watch to find out by yourself!

Ding Chengxin is truly the most beautiful person I have ever seen in my life (and I do not say this lightly). He has a pair of eyes that seem to hold oceans in them. Like upturned peach blossoms falling in the air and eyebrows like swords. Really beautiful as if an ancient painting. I'm waiting to see more of his dramas, especially xianxia/Wuxia

The beauty of pain is virtuous

Love, longing, pain and virtue.

The story of a blind boy Po Xiao who has the boundless heart sutra tattooed on his body and a guard Feng Ren tasked to protect him. The setting of this short film is beautiful and exquisite but the most important thing is the way it portrays emotions. Two forlorn boys alone in this world find comfort in each other.

I adore the melancholic theme of this film, it tugs on your heartstring perfectly. The amount of plot twists this film managed to fit into just 37 minutes is beyond me. The story surprisingly does not feel rushed, instead it has a well written ending.

A bit about the actor Ding Chengxin. He is apparently a singer and not a professional actor. But his acting is impeccable, he plays the role of being blind to such perfection you feel worried for him. The emotions portrayed seem genuine and heartfelt. And he is really good looking. This young actor has a very rare face. I seldom see someone so beautiful as if their features were drawn with a brush. Upturned eyebrows and peach blossom eyes, he indeed fits the description of the most beautiful men in Xianxia novels. I really want to see him in more xianxia/historical dramas or films.

Cela dit, Eye of the Storm adopte une approche différente.

Le généreux et bienveillant infirmier, An Tai He. Le journaliste tenace, Zong Jin You.

Will Bawl Out Your Eyes

This is it!

Watched it. Loved it. Cried for it.

SJK's acting as a werewolf was fabulous. He portrayed the animalistic actions very precisely. Like how an animal in human form would act- eating like an animal, behaviours etc.

The FL was a calm and smart character. She knew how to make a human out of an animal.

The whole movie made my heart flutter until the end. The end was BEAUTIFUL. Just BEAUTIFUL.

How the Story started was great as well. Nostalgic 1900s feeling. Felt like going back to nature.

Well I have a lot to say but cannot come up with it.

So, JUST WATCH IT if you haven't yet. And REWATCH IT if you already have.

Amazing short film

People make mistakes in life. Some mistakes completely changing the course of their and their family's life. What happens when someone in your family commits a sin so grand that it ruins your life? That is what we see here with this film. But more than that this film also shows the unconditional love that brothers have for one another. The acting, the directing and everything is done so well in just a span of 20 minutes. That's what makes this film special. It does everything it needs to do in such a short amount of time. (Made me almost cry). But also if you are an older brother or have an older brother this film might hit you harder. Give it a watch.

"Without a dictionary, how will you be the king of children?'

King of the Children was a heartwarming slice of life film set in rural China during the Cultural Revolution. The story rolled along languidly with gentle humor as Lao Gan learned he had been assigned to be a teacher to a small poverty-stricken middle school. Without preaching, the film addressed some of the problems the school and children faced during the chaotic political time.

Lao Gan who had not trained to be a teacher found out one day that he would take over a middle school class in a rural district. The children's poverty largely reflected his own. He was flummoxed that he had the only government approved manual and the children had no books. The principal had stacks of old teaching material in his building saying they were best used as toilet paper at the present time. The students had learned in the past by the teacher writing from the manual on the roughly hewn board in chalk. Poor Lao Gan was covered in chalk dust by the end of the day using this method. He also discovered that most of the children failed to recognize Chinese characters that they should have learned in elementary school. Top student Wang Fu called Lao Gan out saying he had no idea what he was doing but the effervescent teacher was quick to learn on the job. Realizing he needed to find a way to engage the children better, Lao stopped using the manual and started using personal essays to teach the children how to better comprehend the words they were learning in class. The teacher in the next hut complained that the students must not be learning because they laughed too much. It wasn't long before the principal knew he was not sticking to the manual, a problem regardless of the positive results. The Cultural Revolution was not open to a teacher who rocked the boat so Lao Gan's teaching career was short lived.

Xie Yuan was the heart and soul of this film with his genuine smile and wild, unruly hair. Lao Gan courageously and joyfully broke the rules in his attempt to open the children's minds to better understanding of what they were learning. Rote memorization and the copying of texts had not yielded successful results. By making the lessons personal, the students began to grasp the meanings and importance of the words and characters they were studying. But as many authoritarian leaders know, words and books have power which is why they try to control them.

The cinematography and scenery were gorgeous. Though the subject matter was realistic, the color filters were not, lending an almost fairytale ambiance to the poverty-stricken community and the special teacher who brought learning magic to the children. Red, blue and yellow filters, along with dense fog often conveyed mood better than words.

The film didn't directly confront the Down to the Countryside Movement. The children never spoke of being transferred from urban areas to the countryside to learn farming and animal husbandry instead of taking paths to higher education. Burned out tree stumps and a cleansing fire at the end of the film might have alluded to the 17 million youth of the Lost Generation. The words from the song in the background did give voice to it---

"I came from the eastern mountains
They don't let me go back
I came from the East
I want to go back."

I was a little surprised this movie was allowed to be made with its not-so-subtle criticism of the Cultural Revolution and perspective on poverty, but I'm glad it was. Lao Gan with his compassionate heart and riotous hair brought joy to the students and to this viewer. If you enjoy gentle slice of life stories about teachers attempting to break the education mold for the benefit of children, this might be one to try.

If it was not love, what was it?

I ended up not knowing what was real or fake.

If it was not love, what was it?

Sometimes we must agree that they are awful people; they will hunt you until it is over for them or you.

What a nice movie! I started this movie without expectations. I had to recognize that I watched it for Jang Hyuk, who never disappoints and is gifted. Every single time that I have watched his work, if he cried, so did I.

This movie showed us how easily we can manipulate a teenager's mind and how wounded some of them are.

Overall, I enjoyed this movie; all the actors did an excellent job, and I ended up empathizing with all of them (most of the characters took awful decisions, but they were under pressure, so).

A love story with a twist

Wow, just wow! This movie has been on my list forever and I only got around to it today. Why did I wait so long?

I want to talk about the movie but I am afraid I am going to spoil too much. So I'm going to go just with a few remarks.

The plot: a love story between two piano prodigies Jay and Rain, in a special music class. But the girl misunderstands an event and disappears instead of talking. Then she goes on to confide in a teacher who spills the beans to her classmates who ostracize her afterwards. Good teaching? I don't think so! And of course, who does demolition work in the middle of the night? Still, it did wonders for suspense and the scene was well choreographed: a dance between a piano and a wrecking ball! Still the plot was tightly woven and there were no holes so well done writers!

The music: classical and original piano music, variations on classical themes. Those actors are real musicians and Jay Chou is fabulously talented pianist, composer and actor. Piano battle scene is legendary.

The poster is perfect: the shadow a colonnade in school makes looks like piano keys.

Cinematography is top notch: everything was filmed in warm tones of brown, almost sepia, and combined with the music, leaving you feeling like wrapped in a soft cozy cocoon.

Acting: excellent. They have decent chemistry.

In short, a beautiful movie.

The perfect excuse

Kim Yong needed the perfect excuse to give up on his love. This is where Kim Mu-nee comes in. Even without Mu-nee's interventions, they would've broken up one way or the other. Mu-nee's role in the drama had a huge impact on me. Her character development was amazing. From the heartbreaking story in Kim Yong, she manages to perfectly dodge making the same mistake Kim Yong made. He lacked bravery. And from his lack of bravery, brought her courage. Very good watch! Wouldve liked to see how Mu-nee's parents ended up together tho
