A good enough thriller

It was enjoyable 2 hours. I didnt notice how they went by. I enjoyed it. This is a watch-from-distance movie. That means none of the characters develop mainly because its about one particular case. Its completely dependent on what happens in the field so even though pace is pretty good, we never find out anything about characters. Just a superficial thing or two. So you cannot invest in them.

The acting has no scipe because there are no incidents where it can be portrayed. The one place where it can be, either director did not give enough tome or main cast failed.

But it still is an enjoyable movie.

Too realistic to be sad

I'm crying sad tears, the ending is quite predictable but somehow it manages to give me a lot of hopes.

Actor's acting is wholesome and when I saw some clips of the bts, Zhang Jingyi herself cried so many tears.

They are meant to be with each other, just in another universe.. I believe they will meet each other and live happily ever after.

Their love is so strong actually, cause FL could left ML in the first place but chose not to. And ML, his big devotion towards love is on the top of everything because he gave all of him- that is his whole life to her.

One line that I could never forget, "If I die, don't tell her. If I life, I will make her my wife."

And actually, it was what life meant to be, to find love, and then sacrifice everything for your love.

Good Enough

Japanese Movie " Once Upon a Crime " is a mystery retelling of the Grimm fairy tales, focusing on the Little Red Riding Hood as she tries to solve a crime involving Cinderella.

The movie is a fun watch, with a light mood and an amusing story. The mixture of the fairytale characters was an interesting one, resulting in an enjoyable twist on the well-known stories. Also, this movie was Kiritani Mirei's comeback!

On the other hand, the mystery was boring and too simple, and not enough to support the whole film. There were some cheesy moments as well.

Still, the performances were enjoyable.

So, overall, five out of ten.

Not Good Enough

Korean Movie " Ballerina " is an intense thriller about a woman who seeks out revenge for her friend.

The movie has spectacular cinematography, with sharp camera work and dreamy shots. Hence, the action scenes were leveled up, not being just a choreography between the two fighters, but a piece of art.

The performances were also a strong suit of the movie, as everyone did a great job with their characters, but, the leading lady was especially enjoyable.

However, the main problem with "Ballerina" is its plot. Yes, it's a revenge story, but they just left it there. There is a basic skeleton of a plot, with a predictable outcome and boring twists. Only the fantastic cinematography fills in the gaps of the spars plot, something that, in the end, isn't enough.

So, overall, four out of ten.

A true-to-life presentation of Korean history and its first Catholic priest

It's a very long and not very adventurous film, but it wasn't boring at all.

It presents Christianity faithfully and from the heart. If you are religious, it is a must see, but it is also a very good historical film. It shows the first contacts between Joseon and the western world. The film and sets are incredibly detailed, grandiose and accurate. We learn about geography, sailing and history while getting one step closer to what actual Christianity is.

We are also shown how Westerners are good and faithful people who spread the gospel, but also how they want to conquer and exploit the unknown.

Kim Tea-Gun was not only Korea's first priest and saint, but he was also the first to receive a Western education and learn European languages. This is huge when you consider how isolated Joseon was for 500 years. Their only contact was with China and Japan.

The actors were very good, although I would expect nothing less from a Korean film. There's a lot of Latin, French and Chinese spoken in it and the story is set in many, many places with surprisingly accurate and large sets.

I can't find the film anywhere, not even on illegal sites. Too bad you can't watch this gem anywhere.
I myself saw it officially distributed in cinemas during the Korean Film Week in Hungary.

Good Enough

Japanese Movie " My Happy Marriage " is a fantasy melodrama based on a popular light novel.

The movie does a great job pacing the story and presenting it wholly, even though the ending needed more time to properly develop, leaving the viewer to believe that there might be a second movie to follow this one.

The film also fleshes out the characters, giving them time to properly unfold and giving them enough background to make it easier to sympathize with.

Also, the CGI was perfect, without awkward special effects that would have ruined the mood of the movie. Rather, they were nicely arranged along with the action scenes. The costumes were also great.

Finally, the performances were enjoyable by everyone in the cast.

So, overall, eight out of ten.

I can't share the enthusiasm for this movie..

When I first read the synopsis I was hooked. The idea sounds interesting and fun!

But the movie is pretty boring for me. I don't feel any chemistry between the actors. The atmosphere is lame and bland.

There was one phone call where I thought their nagging were cute, but that's it.

I don't get the progress of their feelings, because they rarely spend time together, so why do they develope feelings for each other? Lol. Barely anything is happening in the movie. I like dialogue heavy movies and shows, but most of the time no one speaks... :')

The sidestory with the girl Shino is also weird. Didn't get it so far, but maybe part 2 will explain more?

The actors do not fit their roles. They look way too old. Although I liked the actor for Seiryo a bit more. His body language screams "dude from an anime". :'D

Wouldn't recommend it because it just feels like a waste of time for me.

Secured the Ambiance, Completely Bombed The Plot

Honestly, I only chose to watch this movie because of Kim Mu Yeol, and I did stay after the plot went south— just for him.

It had a strong start. Ambiance was good, suspense was there, definitely had me at the edge of my seat at some points. The movie has characteristics of a traditional psychological thriller, with a sprinkle of horror into the mix. Cinematography was adequate, nothing wrong with the whole production and acting crew. As always, KMY effortlessly delivered his role and the rest of the cast portrayed their characters well.

Now, with such a good start, what could possibly go wrong?

All was well until the supposed big reveal. The moment that happened, the smile literally fell off my face and I really wanted to slam my laptop into the trash. Not only did they ruin a completely good start, but they just had to recycle some cliche, overused-ass premise that we’ve seen countless of times in the industry— cults. Dear lord, what in the world were they thinking by messing up a completely good start with talks of recruiting the "chosen child" ? A "God child" ? I’ll admit, I did not expect the plot to take this turn. However, I am definitely not pleasantly surprised.

Not to mention, the movie had plot holes you could drive a monster truck through.

Overall, a complete waste of potential down the drain.

"The deliveryman has become takeout!"

Sandra Ng directed and starred in the silly ghost story Goldbuster. It’s rare for a woman to have the chance to direct and Sandra acquitted herself nicely with this film about an eclectic group of tenants being forced out of their homes so that the apartments could be demolished by an immoral land developer.

The rundown Prestige Garden Apartments are down to its last seven tenants-two fugitive gangsters, a widower and his son, two bankrupt inventors, and an erotic web cam girl. When they grow tired of being haunted by a ghost, they call in a ghostbuster. With the arrival of bargain basement Ling, the ghostly comedic antics begin in earnest.

The tenants were a mixed bag of odd characters. One of the gangsters, Ming, played by Francis Ng, believed he was a cop and often postured himself like Crockett from Miami Vice. The other gangster, Ren, had a girlfriend who required a bike pump to stay inflated. Wang Bao Jian, an acupuncturist, suffered from the guilt of being unable to save his wife. His son hadn’t spoken since his mother died. Wang didn’t want to leave the building hoping her spirit would come to visit. Ping, the erotic webcam girl, enjoyed living in the nearly empty complex. The ghostly visitations had the added benefit of increasing the visitors to her site. No one in the building knew if the inventors Jin San and Ju Hua were working on their next invention or were in actuality drug dealers. Two of Boss Xu’s men were under orders to dress like ghosts and scare the tenants out of the building. When the brassy swindler Ling walked in she made more objects disappear into her pockets than exorcising ghosts.

Things I learned: 1-People who cheat small money are swindlers, and those who make it big are businessmen. 2. You can go to hell for photoshopping. 3. There’s always room for one more needle in acupuncture.

Sandra Ng created an elaborate swindle comedy involving ghosts, zombies and a hellish underworld. She even threw in a Thriller re-enactment. The comedy in this was over-the-top at times but never devolved into the overt mugging cross-eyed at the camera some comedies relied on. I’m not a huge fan of Hong Kong comedies but I laughed out loud in several places. The glue that held this story together were the tenants and the family they had created from a diverse group of good-hearted weirdos. Goldbuster could be obvious and erratic and lacking in subtlety, but it could also be warm and funny at the same time. Sandra Ng could be proud of her directorial debut, it may not have been eek-tastic but I really hope it wasn’t a dead end for her directorial career.

Great Start, Disappointing Ending - Major Spoilers Below

This movie is bonkers. It's over the top. It's wacky. And I don't hate it.

I unironically love the witch Barbara, and Red Riding Hood is great as the Only Sane One. The attention to detail was great. I love that the prince was in love with someone who has freckles, and loves her even with a big ass scar on her face (that they actually made look pretty bad, not just a tiny thing).

I hate how it treats Cinderella.

Let's be honest, if this movie took place in real life, the hairdresser wouldn't be a guy who 'cuts women's hair off against their will.' He would be a serial rapist. He assaulted all those women and kept their hair as trophies (like a mass murderer). So this guy finds a woman who has been emotionally, verbally, and even possibly physically abused her entire life and convinces her to come back to his house by making her think he can help her. Then he assaults her. She defends herself and accidentally kills him.

Is she wrong for trying to pin the murder on someone else? Sure. But the person she tried to pin it on had, again, abused her her whole life and had, just that morning, killed the only friend she had (the pigeon). She wanted some form of justice. So was Cinderella in the wrong? Absolutely. Give her a punishment, sure. Put her in jail, even. But the movie shows her zero sympathy and she's painted as the only one in the wrong. Even her step-mother and step-sisters aren't treated as poorly and they were her abusers and, in Margot's case, animal killers. Because the bird ate a scone she dropped on the grass. The HAIRDRESSER isn't painted as poorly!

So I didn't hate the movie. If Red Riding Hood hadn't been there and Cinderella made the deductions and found the killer (maybe Anne or Margot really did do it?), even keeping that the prince is in love with someone else, I would have loved it. I enjoyed the first 3/4 of the movie, honestly. But I dislike what happened in that last 1/4 so much that I can't rate it higher than a 6. Sorry, not sorry.

The age confused me, they were 12, met again in 24 years which means they should be 36, even if it was only 20 years, they’d be 32, but he was in uni? And she was acting like a teen bubbly airhead?
And they remet in 12 more years so, 44/48?
By their behavior in life I’d have assumed it was 12, 21 and 35/40
Yoo teo presented the changes really well, he can project a cute gentleness of the second part
And fl she looked younger in the third part, a side part hair fits her perfectly

Alex? Already forgot his name, he had a good heart but dang he felt so average, not looks but personality and in ways that’s why she chose him, he would do anything for her, would he have a breaking point tho? Anyone would.

Anyway, this was like 2521, love and soulmate isn’t enough to make a relationship work. Long distance relationships aren’t just about physical distance, it’s about culture, routine, and the habitat one is used to, I personally can never leave my home

She wanted him to follow her life choices and move to new York while he also had his own steps he chose, he was her reminder of “home and belonging”, and she was his what if
Maybe he wouldn’t have regretted moving for her, isn’t love and passion a blink of an eye choice, she certainly wouldn’t have felt comfortable again in Korea
I wish the scene they ignored the husband in the bar was done differently like he left to give them space to talk rather than them ignoring him
Idk maybe it highlights his acceptance that that was closure, my personality would not handle that well ? I’d have left the next day?


Tbh I wanted them to end up together, idk it felt simple, get rid of Alex ? he certainly wavered that he was in competition with, but Nora did always have “open minded” set to the point mindset
She loved him but she wasn’t madly in love with him which does make sense for both, a kid’s admiration, turned into a what if but that was 34 years of living their lives
If it was hard to live without one another, either one would’ve made a move, even if it was just a weekend visit

"Our power is justice!"

Based on two television shows from the 1970’s, Bravestorm combined the Silver Mask and the Super Robot Red Baron to try and save the Earth from an alien invasion. The film used a combination of time travel and mecha suits and while it resembled a television episode more than a film, for fans of the genre it might be enough to entertain them.

In 2050 after an alien invasion that resulted in the Earth being terraformed for the aliens’ benefit, the human population is next to extinct with 96% of the population eradicated and a small portion enslaved. Siblings Koji, Haruka, and Kozo are sent back to their grandfather, Kenichiro, in 2013 to prevent the invasion. In 2018, Kenichiro’s ne’er do well brother, Ken, is recruited after an alien confrontation at an underground fight ring. Kenichiro has built a giant mecha suit for Ken to control in order to combat Black Baron, the aliens’ giant terraforming robot. Ken is less than enthused about joining the gang but is finally convinced to help.

The siblings’ abilities were varied. Koji was the brave brother who wore the silver suit of armor capable of 500% of a human’s strength. Haruka, had one expression throughout the film and few lines. She was gifted with second sight, perception, psychic ability, any power they needed her to have in a pinch, and swordswomanship. Poor Kozo had little to do and was stuck being the techie. He had a special pair of glasses that could determine whether a person was human or not. Ken was a boxer who earned money in illegal fights and was quite angry with the brother who disappeared a few years earlier. This character came across as an idiotic jerk for much of the film until he was given what he considered a better reason than humankind’s imminent demise to finally suit up. Kenichiro was the most interesting of the characters as the robot and AI specialist and surrogate father to the group.

The CGI ranged from cheap television effects to proper film CGI. Red Baron and Black Baron for the most part were well done. There were also alien robots in human suits, such as the fearsome Bald Borg. The creepy Chigrises, which I could swear I’ve seen in another movie, could also take human form. The Killgis CGI was uneven, terrible in one scene but better in another. Interestingly, the Killgis chose our planet because of humanity's warlike nature and destiny to self-destruct. Might as well move the timetable up. Harsh.

The music was drawn from a variety of films. There were times I expected to see Christopher Reeve’s Superman fly in, or Luke Skywalker, or the Rebel Alliance. It was like a patchwork quilt of famous action movie scores.

At just over 80 minutes the movie sped by and there wasn’t much time for character development. When dealing with giant mechas all can be forgiven if the battle is spectacular. Disappointingly, the final battle was short and definitely not epic and the heroic actions felt rushed particularly in the villain’s lair. The movie also ended on a cliffhanger apparently in the hopes of a sequel. For fans of the old tv shows or the genre in general, it is one to check out. For everyone else, if you keep your expectations quite low, you might find parts of it entertaining.

Egészen döbbenetes mit műveltek velem. Itt nem könnyeztem, nem pityeregtem, hanem tisztán sírtam… Bőgtem, mintha nem lenne holnap…

A Hope egy olyan alkotás, amelyet legszívesebben mindenkinek ajánlanék, de közben meg talán óva intenék bárkit is attól, hogy megnézze… (Persze ez utóbbi nem is annyira igaz!) Azt tudom valójában tanácsolni, hogy ne olvassatok utána. Semmit. Egy sort, de még csak egy rövidke leírást se! Nézzétek csak meg, aztán meglátjátok…

Lehet, hogy sokat láttál és olvastál már… Azonban a Hope – szerintem – téged is meg fog lepni. Nekem kicsit olyan, mintha most újra gyerek lennék. Aki hatalmas szemekkel rácsodálkozik a világ ilyen fajta kincseire. Meg talán kicsit önmagára is.

A film egyik legnagyobb csodája egyébiránt az, hogy minden annyira realisztikus és hiteles benne, hogy nincs egyetlenegy mosoly és könnycsepp sem, amely nem jókor és jó helyen csillanna fel benne. Kétség nélkül állítom, hogy ez a 2013-as produkció egyszeri és megismételhetetlen. Olyan, amely úgy mesél – többek közt – a szeretetről, ahogyan nagyon kevesek tudnak.
