That was a headache

I don’t think I’ve ever been more conflicted about whether I like a show than I have with this one. My head is pounding just trying to figure out how to describe my entire view of this show, so if my review sounds like I’m just yapping, that is why.

Part 1 of this show gave an extremely promising start, especially the pilot episode. It had a great introduction to our main cast, a good amount of foreshadowing, a great setup for future character development, and also had a dark comedic undertone. In a sense, it reminded me of the movie Parasite. I’d also like to mention the phenomenal acting of the whole cast, especially those who played the reincarnations of Yi Jae.

All the compliments I gave for part 1 pretty much go towards part 2 as well. With that being said, however, I disagree with the way the show handled the topic of suicide. With a subject matter as sensitive as suicide, it is extremely important to handle the topic with respect and consideration, especially if the ‘moral of the story’ being conveyed revolves around the subject of suicide. In this case, the moral of the story was essentially to be appreciative of what you have. That is not at all a message I disagree with; in fact, I think it’s a good message to convey when writing a story on the topic of suicide. However, the way the show conveyed that message was by remaining completely insensitive and apathetic toward Yi Jae’s situation that drove him to commit suicide. Instead, they only focused on the pain Yi Jae caused his loved ones to feel due to him taking his own life. I believe it’s a great idea to focus on the hurt of his loved ones, but not when the writing makes that its only focus, especially when another point the story was attempting to make was that Yi Jae should’ve considered how his loved ones would feel if he were to take his own life, making him out to essentially be selfish and inconsiderate with no redeeming qualities. If the writers are trying to make the point that he should’ve put himself in their shoes before taking his own life, then I find it hypocritical that they don’t do the same with Yi Jae. They shame him for not focusing on the positives he had in his life, yet when he does something as commendable as saving another person’s life while risking his own, they shame him for that too. This hypocrisy and disrespect towards the topic of suicide diminishes the strength of each message the story was attempting to send, as each message stems from the writers’ insensitive way of trying to make a point. It is not at all impossible to convey all the messages they were trying to convey without attempting to prove it by completely ignoring the circumstances that led him to commit suicide, while also shaming him for doing so.

However, that is just my take on how they handled the topic of suicide. I personally am sensitive to the topic, but I don’t at all disagree with any of the messages the story carries. In fact, I admire the story’s take on the topic of suicide, and I do realize that there was good intent behind each message, despite the harsh way they conveyed it. I just personally wish the story would’ve taken a moment to realize that Yi Jae did give life a chance; even after his life went to shit, he spent 10 whole years giving it a chance, but life continued to fail him. I believe if they wanted to fully go with the idea of him being the personification of ego and greed, then it would’ve been better to portray his character the same way the Webtoon did before he took his own life. Not as hardworking, taking the easy way out each time, etc. For me, it just hurts to see a character who genuinely worked extremely hard but only given shit back in return, which is what led him make such a decision, and then be shamed for it as if he didn’t work hard from the beginning. I’m not saying he was right in taking his own life, someone taking their own life will always be the worst choice that could be made no matter the circumstance. However, I believe there could’ve been a better way to go about things.

Now that I’ve discussed the main issue, I’ll just mention some minor issues I had with the story. Some parts of the plot were a bit incoherent, specifically the plot point where Yi Jae was explaining how he organized this whole scheme on how to kill Tae Woo while bypassing Death’s rules. I’m not sure if I’m just stupid or lacking sleep, but those entire 5 minutes made absolutely no sense. I’d also like to lastly mention an inconsistency with the foreshadowing. Again, I could just be stupid, but in part 1, they seemed to imply that when Yi Jae jumped off the building, his body had hit someone, specifically a kid. However, this was never picked back up again, which makes me believe that the writers either chose to discard that idea because it would overly complicate the story, or that the teddy bear panel at the crime scene and the conversation between those two police officers discussing the dead body of a kid was just completely pointless, lmao.

Anyways, with all that being said, is this a recommendable show? I believe so, if you’re not sensitive to the topic of suicide, that is. It is quite an interesting story with commendable acting partnering it. It also has quite a bit of dark humor, especially in part 1, so if that’s what you’re into, I’d say give it a shot. However, if you’d like to watch a show that explored the topic of suicide well and that was even more entertaining than this show, I would like to recommend “The Fallen High School Girl and the Irresponsible Teacher.” Quite a silly and long title, Ik lmao, but it definitely was a very memorable story.

Disappointment <\3

I swear I can’t be the only one who was disappointed with this bl, like please tell me someone out there agrees with me when I say that storyline with Vegas and Pete was completely unnecessary

So essentially, I really loved everything about this bl except the story. The acting, cinematography, and music was all fenomenal and you can really tell the amount of effort and how high of a budget was put into this bl which I really do appreciate, it’s just that for me the story went down hill after the end of episode 7.

I really fell in love with the first 6 episodes of the series, it felt so refreshing and I could really see the great potential of the series. Episode 7 was good as well, except for the ending which felt extremely out of placed and like it was forced into the episode when it really didn’t need to be there. From there, the episodes started getting worse and worse. Like they really had to throw in the ex boyfriend arc lmfao that whole arc just felt like filler, but I mean it was still bearable for me so I still continued watching

I started growing disappointed in Kinnporsche when that whole Vegas and Pete torture chamber thing was going on which honestly disgusted me, and it angers me even more that when Pete had a very good opportunity to escape after Vegas’ pet died and he gave it up to go comfort him. Literally the same person who whipped him, stripped him and abused him for a whole week, and he still decided to help him because he felt bad. Bro name one mentally stable person who would give up the opportunity from escaping from his abuser to go comfort them after their pet died. It’s not even like the show tries painting the picture that their relationship is not okay, it honestly feels like fetishizing. And in case you continue to argue that there was artistic reasoning behind their relationship or smth like that, the creators of the book and show have been called out for grooming the actors while filming so obviously it’s not too far fetched to say that they were romanticizing the Stockholm syndrome sort of relationship Vegas and Pete had

I haven’t watched the last 2 episodes and I don’t plan to, so I can’t say anything abt the ending but tbh I rlly doubt it was actually good with the way episodes 8-12 were, but like you never know lol. This is really up to personal taste, and maybe it didn’t help that I’m not a huge fan of mafia bls mostly because I don’t rlly like the action genre that much, but still I loved HIStory 3 trapped (highly recommended if you haven’t watched it) and this bl still managed to disappoint me. I gotta give it to this series tho Porsche has gotta be one of the best characters I’ve ever seen in the bl universe so like maybe it wasn’t all that bad lmao

Good, but could’ve been better

In all honesty, I rated this BL as high as I did partially because of how satisfying it was to finally be able to watch it after waiting almost a year for its release. Like I really ate every single episode up as soon as it released and left literally no crumbs, like I’d be watching almost every episode twice.

Putting my bias aside though, this show wasn’t as good as it could’ve been. The execution for the character/plot conflicts (especially the final conflict) could’ve been done a lot better. The conflicts in the show were resolved too quickly and it didn’t go as in depth as it should’ve been given it being under the psychological genre. In other words, it’s like only dipping your toes into the pool on a scorching hot summer day. There was so much more that could’ve and should’ve been covered in certain plot points to give a better sense of understanding as well as realism in the characters, however it chose to only scratch the surface of what could’ve been a more interesting and heartfelt story.

The acting wasn’t too bad, I especially liked Ye Chan’s general portrayal of Cho Tae. He did Cho Tae’s nonchalant/playful attitude very well, and he had good comedic timing especially for a rookie. Jae Han’s acting was decent as well, I’m not sure if it’s because he himself felt awkward during some scenes, but regardless it pulled off since Da Yeol’s character is quite an awkward one lol. The acting for majority of the emotional scenes, however, lacked believability. Ye Chan’s acting felt either too calm or too dramatic in a lot of the emotional scenes for it to be realistic, and Jae Han’s timing for his line delivery was too slow in certain scenes to leave a strong impact. His facial expressions as well were too stiff to find the emotions he’s supposed to be portraying to be believable.

The music was a mixed bag, like there were a handful of scenes where they used copyright free music I’ve heard numerous times even outside of television like tell me you had low budget without telling me you had a low budget lmao. Other than that, it wasn’t that bad. I especially liked some of the sound effects used too, it added on to the overall light feel the show had. The cinematography was good for the most part, nothing I haven’t really seen before. I liked the bright, vibrant coloring majority of the scenes had, and the camerawork for certain scenes was pretty creative. The editing was alright (fun fact I learned recently, alright isn’t an actual word in the English dictionary, the more you know yall). I personally hate the kind of slow-mo shots that go frame by frame; I find them very tacky/cringy and unfortunately there was a handful of those kind of slow-mo shots in this bl.

Despite its flaws though, this bl was a really entertaining and enjoyable watch. If you’re looking for something lighthearted with some layers to it, as well as having a good laugh, I’d highly suggest this bl d=(´▽`)=b

That was actually beautiful

I’m going to be completely honest, I almost didn’t watch this series because of the age gap. And I almost stopped when the series started implying that Wang’s father had feelings for In and vise versa because I found it weird which I mean it is weird considering In also has feelings for Wang but that’s really the only negative thing I have to say about this bl

First off, the writing and acting was outstanding. I love how realistic the show was, which is hard to find in a lot of bls. I also really liked the pacing. The slow but not too slow pacing made the story feel so calm and peaceful, which made the tense moments even tenser. The acting was really good and believable too, especially for Wang.

I don’t really have much to say about the music since if I’m being honest I didn’t pay much attention to it, but I don’t remember it being super distracting or sounding like the same track that’s played in 10 other bls so I’d say it was good enough for me lol

Anyways, this show is really up to personal taste as most shows are. If you can overlook the big age gap between the 2 characters I’d definitely highly recommend this bl B)

Not as good as others say it is

I’ll say what I like about the bl first before I start getting into what I dislike ab it just bc lol

First off, I really liked the scenes that just Noh and Phun shared as well as this bl being a bit of a slow burner. I really hate when the main couple gets together right in the middle of the series, because it ends up feeling rushed and honestly gets boring, but Love Sick took its time with the relationship development between the main couple which I do really appreciate. I do also know that this bl really started the making of Thai bls, which I completely respect and I am proud of the series for accomplishing that.

Now I’ll get into what I dislike about love sick lol

The main thing that really frustrated me with this bl is the amount of couples that are in it. Because of the amount of couples that were in it, the main couple I’d say only got maybe 15 mins of screen time each episode which isn’t a good thing at all considering they’re the main couple lmao. It got to the point where I found myself skipping through any scene that didn’t have either Noh or Phun in it because all the other scenes had little to no impact on the main plotline, so there was literally no point in watching it.
The second thing that bothered me was the acting, mostly on Captain’s part (actor for Noh). Maybe it could’ve been the writing for the character, but I didn’t really find his performance believable during the intimate scenes. The other actors too weren’t the best and I understand that for 95% cast this was their first ever role, but nonetheless it still bugged me. I’d have to say White (actor for Phun) had the best performance out of the whole cast, his acting felt really believable and it made me feel genuine sympathy and care for his character.
The last and final thing that annoyed me was the logic behind Noh not telling Pang that he doesn’t wanna be in a romantic relationship with her. I completely understand Phun not wanting to tell his girlfriend that he likes someone else since yknow that’s his girlfriend, but I don’t understand why Noh just cant tell Pang. It’s been a long time since I last watched this, so correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t remember Noh really caring for Pang’s feelings to the point where he wouldn’t want to tell her he likes someone else. I get that they’re young and stupid or whatever but there’s still no logic, at least to me, as to why he wouldn’t just tell her.

Anyways that about it lol, I was kinda disappointed when I first watch it bc of the amount of reviews hyping up the series but I think the reason why people love this series so much is because for majority of them it was their first bl which I completely get lol but if this bl were released this year it would not get this much hype lmao. Anyways watch it if you want to, it rlly isn’t that bad but just know that if you do watch it ignore the first like 20 mins it has no relevance to the story lmao

Just why bro

Whoever rated this above 5 stars I hope your wifi stops working for the next week

Words can’t describe the hatred I have for this bl. I normally start w what I like about it but all I can say is that the main cast did a good job and the cinematography was good, but other than that this bl was terrible.

Okay so, wtf was up w that enemies to lovers transition bro lmfao like they didn’t even become lovers they became like enemies w benefits not even at the very least friends
I also hate the whole type pulling pranks w like literal bad intentions and not tryna be playful just because tharn is gay, like he’s a full grown ass man I’m pretty sure any other homophobic grown man wouldn’t do the same things he did lmfao it was so immature
And that one scene too in I think ep 4 or 5 somewhere around there when tharn was like kissing type’s neck and basically sexually harassing him while he’s sleeping was completely unnecessary and fetishy honestly

That only scratches the surface, the thing that really irked me was type’s backstory.

For those who haven’t watched this and are reading this, this is Type’s backstory:
When Type was maybe 5 or 6, he was walking to his school by himself when a grown man approaches him and asks him to follow him into an alleyway which he does. In the alleyway, the grown man sexually assaults Type.
It’s not necessarily the backstory as a whole I have a problem with, it’s mostly just the way they used it. The way they used it is like they’re using it as an excuse for him being homophobic, which disgusts me because such a serious topic like that shouldn’t be used as an excuse for someone being homophobic. The backstory pretty much came out of nowhere too, no foreshadowing or anything. And what annoys me even more that shows how little care the writers had for the topic is that they only mentioned his backstory just a few times. One time in depth, and a couple more very briefly. If you’re going to talk about a topic that serious and show that little care for it, might as well not talk about it at all.

Anyways lmao I really don’t suggest this bl at all as you can see from me completely shitting on it but if u do wanna watch it so you can shit on it too bc that’s fun it’s on YouTube so you don’t have to go on an illegal website B)

Literally why was this so good

Im not lying when I say I literally finished this bl in a day. Do I regret it? No lmfao

Sure this bl has plenty of flaws that rlly frustrated me but the goofiness of the acting and story rlly kept me going
I have to say my favorite part about this bl is it’s acting, bro as dumb as the acting was it made me laugh bc of how dramatic it was
For its flaws, I really got frustrated with how dragged out it was. I know that basically the point of the story that the situation just keeps getting dragged on and getting worse and worse because the main character is extremely hesitant to tell his boss he doesn’t like him romantically, afraid he might end up getting fired because of it. But what irked me was the whole marriage plot after Siu Muk broke up with him. Like he really didn’t have to go as far as to almost marry his own boss lmfao that was rlly unnecessary
Regardless though, it still was a really good bl and I would definitely suggest it if you’re into slapstick humor. Just remember not to take the bl seriously or else you won’t enjoy it lmao

Og is still better than this remake tho and I stand by that so I’d suggest the original more if you don’t wanna suffer through the extensive dragging of the plot lol

Not at all what I was expecting

My god I don’t think I have ever been more ashamed and embarrassed than I was whilst watching this show for taking the story synopsis and trailer for such immense face-value. I initially thought this show would just be your average, cutesy, puppy-love-type bl (in other words, nothing special lmao), but god it was so much more. I came for Cha Woongki, and left with tears.

Although, my initial assumption of what this show would be wasn’t completely incorrect; it was quite a light show for the most part. The immense puppy-love was there as well, though mostly portrayed in only Yeo Woon’s character. However, this show did have its dark and sensitive topics: Suicide, abuse, abandonment, etc., but to my surprise, the way they handled these topics was outstanding, beautiful even. I won’t go into detail, since I want to keep this review pretty much spoiler free, but I will say that this story probably handled all those dark, sensitive topics, better than most of the stories I’ve seen that contained the same subject matter. Thought, despite the amount of sensitive subject matter, the show still managed to find a good balance between that and the light-hearted scenes, and that is also something that I find beautiful about this show.

The characters were fantastic, and the acting for each character was even better. I’d like to especially mention the acting of the two main leads. Their acting was good to the point where you can almost hear everything the character is thinking and feeling by just looking at their eyes, and that amount of skill that the lead actors showed is something that I find extremely admirable. The characters were also quite complex/multi-faceted, which is part of what made them so entertaining to watch. I will say though that, unfortunately, the side characters were a bit underdeveloped. The story never went into depth with any of the side characters, and we only saw what Tae Myung and Yeo Woon saw. It’s pretty much as if their characters really only served as plot devices. Though, I wouldn't blame the writing, but rather the duration of the series. However, I’d like to treat the underdevelopment of the side characters as a sacrifice for how well developed the two main leads were, because how could a writer possibly have the side characters be as developed as the two leads and the plot given the time constraint.

The cinematography and editing is, with no doubt, one of the best I’ve seen in a piece of media so far. It sounds like an exaggeration, and it could be since I’m too busy geeking out right now to think about all the great cinematography I’ve seen before, but it’s still nonetheless phenomenal lol. Something about the cinematography is so satisfying to watch; the creative camera work, the beautiful coloring that alters depending on the mood of the scene, and the editing to make the show seem more game-like, all just came together so perfectly. The music was pretty good as well, maybe minus a couple songs according to my taste since I’m not a huge fan of just plain pop songs, but that outro song in episode 6 is so good I like shazamed it but nothing popped up so I don’t think it’s released yet, but they better release it soon man I need to add it to my playlist.

Anyways, this show has given me complete hope in bls for 2024. Last year, more specifically the second half, was quite rocky for bls guys I’m not gonna lie. With a show like this, though, I think 2024 has this in the bag with bl for sure. Remember, 2+0+2+4 = Ate (I hate that I can’t put emojis in reviews, this sucks).

A little gift from Santa fr

So many good shows have been coming out this month, especially this one. I had such high expectations coming into this to the point that I was worried it wouldn’t reach my expectations, but goodness golly gee I think this show far exceeded my already sky-high expectations fr

The writing for this show so far is so captivatingly written, and it has an interesting blend to it. It’s meaningful, suspenseful, and actually quite humorous. Speaking of the humor, if you’re interested in stories with some dark comedy in it, this would be a great show for you. The writing for the characters is phenomenal as well; each character is very memorable, and I love how each of lives that the protagonist enters serves an important purpose to the plot, despite a quarter of those lives being extremely short-lived (im talking especially about the ceo and the skydiver guy lmao).

The acting was great, I mean you can’t expect anything less from the avengers type cast this show has (I swear every reel I see talking about this show is of the user thirsting over the cast lmao). The cinematography is amazing as well; the shots are creative and the coloring is just right.

Anyways pookies I’m really bad at writing reviews but the point is this show is rlly good and you guys should like watch it frfr (especially for the cast)

Good bl but rushed storytelling and abrupt ending <\3

I don’t have much to say about this bl other than it was very sweet. The characters for the most part well written, as well as portrayed just as well by the actors. The emotions of the characters also felt realistic, which I can appreciate because a lot of bls tend to lack a sense of realism. The music was also banger too id listen to that intro song any time of the day

Other than that, the bl felt too rushed for me. The pacing felt too fast at some parts, and it felt as though the story wasn’t giving the characters time to breathe. The situation in the last episode between Guang and his parents also felt that it was resolved a little too quickly to be realistic. We also didnt really get to see much development of Guang’s romantic feelings towards Qi Zhang. If im being honest, the kiss scene at the very end didn’t make much sense to me since the story never took the time to show Guang’s perspective of Qi Zhang.

The ending to it also felt extremely abrupt. It felt like it was missing an episode or two when I finished it. We never got to see if Qi Zhang was able to get the scholarship, we never got to see any sweet moments between Guang and his parents after they’ve become more understanding of him, and the story never told us if Guang remembered Qi Zhang from the first night they met each other, which I know that one is more of a nitpick but it would've been nice to know.

Putting aside the flaws of this bl, I’d still recommend it. The sweetness of it somewhat made up for it, at least in my opinion. It was also a pretty good time killer while waiting for another bl that im currently watching to release the new episode, so there’s that lol
