Five facts about me:

  1. 1. I only watch Japanese doramas. I don't like Kdoramas because I don't like how Korean sounds, and this makes me sad. Likewise with Taiwanese doramas.
  2. 2. I will watch anything so long as it's not depressing a/o a police/medical/horror dorama. It's not that I don't like these genres as a whole, but they're generally not my cup of tea, so I'm very picky about what to watch. As for horrors, I don't like them at all because they're mostly gore, so that's a no on all fronts.
  3. 3. My favourite genres are romance and sci-fi (especially time travel, you can never go wrong with that one.) If you recommend to me a dorama that has both, you get a cookie.*
  4. 4. I can either watch something in a day or spend months on it. There's no in-between.**
  5. 5. I wish I could learn Japanese because, frankly, I hate reading subtitles. That said, fansubbers are amazing and I love them all. I never appreciated them so much.

* a virtual cookie, but a cookie nonetheless.
** someday I'll finish that Hana Kimi remake, you'll see.

I have few (but good) favourite doramas:

ReviewIf you're looking for a great dorama about sports, friendship and hard work, and how these things can truly change a person, then look no further, because this is the one for you. [...] While the plot feels rushed here and there, I still loved this series for the messages it conveyed. [x

Review: If you had a chance to go back in time to confess to the one you love and change your destiny, would you do it? Well, then, "Hareruja, chansu!" [x]

Recommended to: people who love romantic doramas, time travel, and funny poses.

ReviewBe prepared to throw your pride and dignity out of the window and watch this rendition of the famous manga Itazura na Kiss. The cinematography and scenery are great and, while the sexism is almost unbearable, you can't help falling in love with the kind, hard-working and amazing Kotoko. (If you don't love her, I bet you like Naoki.)

Recommended to: people who loved the manga, or people who love rom-coms very much.

Review: An accident causes Ieji to lose his memory of the past five years, and now all he's left with is an ex-wife, ten mysterious keys, and a new family - wife and kid, - whose faces appear to him as wearing masks all the time. If you like psychological dramas with a touch of mystery and familial love, you should definitely watch this show. You will find yourself unable to stop and probably binge-watch everything in a day. Sorry. You're welcome.

Recommended to: people who are into psychological dramas and mysteries.

Review: We have the classic, perfect Japanese family: father, mother, two sons. Father works and brings home the big bucks, mother is the perfect housewife, first son is a straight-A student and amazing athlete. The only problem is the second son, the hikikomori who won't go to school because he's being bullied. Enter Yoshimoto-sensei, the home tutor with 100% success rate of getting his students into what seems to be the most prestigious university out there. But we soon discover that, as Yoshimoto-sensei's mask fades away, the family's pretty façade crumbles as well, because nothing is what it seems. [x]

Review:  It's so easy for these kind of stories to end up feeling cheesy or clichéd, but this is not the case with Bara no nai Hanaya. The dorama is fresh and delicate, and touches upon various themes like family, friendship, vengeance, and kindness with the utmost sweetness and without too many pretences. Nothing in the story is ever exaggeratedly melodramatic or tragic, but it will make you cry nonetheless. Sometimes you will be happy-crying, sometimes you won't. But you can't help but shed a tear or two because the stories, the characters, the emotions - they're all real and will melt your heart. [x]

ReviewThe story is, to put it simply, amazing. I love LOVE mysterious/psychological stuff, so this is right up my alley. The whole concept of the game is so great, and the ways to compete in it are even better. [...] The first two episodes, I'll admit, weren't that great. They were a little boring to me, because not much happens. But as soon as you get past that, everything is like a roller-coaster. Every episode ends with a cliffhanger, and you won't be able to stop watching. [x]

Review: This dorama has everything: ikemen, parody, cosplay, romance, friendship, bromance - you name it! Be prepared to laugh as you fall in love with the characters with every episode. This dorama is great from start to finish, and, if romantic shows that mock romance are your thing, you're gonna love this one. If you're willing to overlook the wigs, that is.

Recommended to: people who loved the manga, or love ikemen, parodies and romantic doramas.

Review: Music? Lalalala, check. Comedy? Hahahah, check. Romance? <3 Check (kinda). Amazing characters? Double check.
I can't even begin to describe the fabulous masterpiece that is Nodame Cantabile. If you read and liked the manga, chances are you are gonna like the dorama too, because it's flawless. If you didn't read the manga, think Mozart meets Mr. Bean. What you get is an hilariously amazing dorama about music that will leave you want for more - while in the meantime also make you wish you could play like that!

Recommended to: people who loved the manga, or people who love music/musical comedies with a dash of romance and a lot of laughs.

Review: A wise man once said "YAY! Panda!" and from then on the word "panda" became the protagonist of a bunch of puns that are so lost in translation that I feel so bad if I think about the fact that I'm not Japanese. Uso da to itte yo... (I'll leave this for you to complete) [x]

Recommended to: people; as in: all the people. No, seriously, this dorama is gold.
