Yoon Jung Hee (Tasty Life, Smile, Mom), Jae Hee (May Queen, Color of Woman),Oh Yoon Ah (The Incarnation of Money,Childless Comfort), Jo Yi Jin (Korean Peninsula, Stained Glass), and Kang Ui Sik (Monstar) are cast in jTBC’s drama, Firstborn that started September 14.  The director is Lee Kwan Hee who also directed My Girl.  The writer is Kim Jung Soo who also wrote If Tomorrow Comes and Dandelion Family

This drama is about the struggles of five siblings after they lose their parents and the triumph of the firstborn who raises her young siblings to become successful people.  The only other information I could find was the character names and you can see that information on MDL.

This drama probably began airing before this article came out.  It is 50 episodes long…50.  Is it worth it to watch Jae Hee who I really, really like as an actor???  Geez!!!

Sung Hoon (Faith, New Tales of Gisaeng) and Choi Yoon Young (The Queen’s Classroom,My Daughter Soyoung) star in SBS drama Passionate Love which will start airing September 28 after Wonderful Mama.  The director is Bae Tae Sub who also directed Don’t Know Her.  Park Ye Kyeong is the writer who also wrote My Daughter, Flower and SantamariaSeohyun from Girls Generation will be in the first four episodes.

Kang Moo Yeol (Sung Hoon) grows up with family issues and pain from the loss of his former lover Han Yoo Rim (Seohyun) although he seems to have it all from an outsider’s view.  Han Yoo Jung (Choi Yoon Young) loses her family but doesn’t let that hold her back.  Kang Moo Yeol and Han Yoo Jung become star-crossed lovers.

Melodrama is my favorite genre.  Although I haven’t seen Sung Hoon act much, I find myself interested in seeing what he can do.

Kwon Sang Woo (Queen of Ambition, Stairway to Heaven), Jung Ryeo Won (The Kings of Dramas, Salaryman), Joo Ji Hoon (Five Fingers, The Devil), Oh Yeon Seo (Oh Ja Ryong is Coming, Unexpected You) and Choi Min Ho (member of K-Pop Group Shinee and stared in To the Beautiful You)are to star in Top Medical Team which will air on MBC starting October 2 after Two Weeks.  The director is Kim Doo Hoon who also directed The Moon that Embraces the Sun and Royal Family.  The writer is Yoon Kyung Ah who also wrote Brain and God of Study

Park Tae Shin (Kwon Sang Woo) is a misunderstood genius surgeon. His straightforward and abrupt manner belies his soft-heart. Seo Joo Young (Jung Ryeo Won) is a very meticulous cardiothoracic surgeon.  She is said to be charismatic with a warm touch.  Han Seung Jae (Joo Ji Hoon) is a renowned internist who is mild-mannered with a cold heart.  Choi Ah Jin (Oh Yeon Seo) is an enthusiastic and energetic thoracic surgeon of two years. Kim Seong Woo (Choi Min Ho) is a good-natured thoracic surgery specialist and the youngest member of the team. There is plenty of information about the characters, but very little on the actual plot.  If I find any more information, then I will be sure to update.
Although I have never seen the drama Brain, I have heard wonderful things about it.  The writer is the same, so I’m expecting this to be good.  Plus, the director is one that directed my first drama Royal Family.  I also like the cast.  I’m all in even though I don’t like medical dramas.

Lee Young Ah (Vampire Prosecutor series, King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo) and Nam Goong Min (Gu Am Heo Joon, Still Cut) star in E-Channel’s drama Unemployed Romance which will air on October 5.  Both the director and writer are rookies so there is no way to compare it to previous works. Suh Joon Young (To the Beautiful You, A Tree with Deep Roots) and Bae Seul Ki (Late Night Hospital, The Greatest Love) are also in this drama.

Seung Hee (Lee Young Ah) is an aspiring writer who lives off of unemployment checks while she chases her dreams.  She meets her first love Jon Dae (Nam Goong Min) as he works as a civil servant at the unemployment office. Jon Dae is not happy to see Sung Hee as he blames her for everything that went wrong in his life while they were dating.  Wan Ha (Seo Jun Young) is a successful lawyer and friend to Jon Dae who falls in love with Sung Hee.  Sun Joo is Jon Dae’s girlfriend and Seung Hee’s friend.  Of course, this becomes a love square.

I am not a rom-com enthusiast.  It is one of my least favorite genres.  However, I watched the clips below and decided that I’m watching this.  It is only 10 episodes that come on once a week (Saturday) so I think I can handle that.

The Ghost-Seeing Detective Cheo Yong

Oh Ji Ho (The Queen of Office, The 3rd Ward),Oh Ji Eun (The King of Dramas, Smile, Dong Hae), and Jun Hyo Seong (Korean girl group, Secret) star in OCN’s drama The Ghost-Seeing Detective Cheo Yong that will star airing October 6. The director is Lim Chan Ik who co-directed Bravo My Life.  The writer is Hong Seung Hyun who wrote the critically acclaimed sageuk sci-fi, Joseon X-Files.

Detective Yoon Cheo Yong (Oh Ji Ho) was born with the ability to see and hear ghosts.  He cuts himself off from everyone after a terrible incident makes him lose his family and love.  He was once a great detective, but now lives his life as a disinterested district cop. One day he talks to Ha Na Young (Jun Hyo Seong) who is a female high school ghost and it brings him back to reality. Soon, he is solving mysterious cases with his partner, Ha Sun Woo (Oh Ji Eun).

Another ghost drama in the works, but I’m interested because it airs on OCN.  Although these teasers don't give much information, it makes me think it is going to be darker than the ghost dramas that are airing right now.  I love scary!!!  Also, The Vampire Prosecutor series air on that network and it is daebak.  I definitely plan to watch this.

Marry Him If You Dare/Future Choice

Jung Yong Hwa (Heartstrings, You’re Beautiful and of group CN Blue), Yoon Eun Hye (Missing You, Lie to Me),and Lee Dong Gun (Smile, Again, Lovers in Paris) will star in KBS2 drama Marry Him If You Dare which will air October 14 after Good Doctor.  The director is Kwon Gye Hong who also directed Crime Squad and Bad Love.  The writer is Hong Jin Ah that also wrote King2Hearts and Beethoven Virus.

Na Mi Rae (Yoon Eun Hye) is a writer for a TV broadcasting station who can travel in time.  She travels back in time to give herself advise so that she can make better decisions to not end up like her present self.  Kim Shin (Lee Dong Gun)is the broadcasting station’s top announcer. Park Se Joo (Jung Yong Hwa) has a double life as the grandson to the station’s CEO and a cameraman.  This drama will be about the love and work of the people who work at the broadcasting station.  Just a little FYI…Mi Rae means future so this could translate as Mi Rae’s choice.

Yet another time travel drama. I know some people don’t necessarily like Jung Yong Hwa, but I like him.  Plus, I think it is worth checking out another drama of writer Hong Jin Ah considering that I liked both King2Hearts and Beethoven Virus.

Ha Ji Won (King2Hearts, Secret Garden), Joo Jin Mo (Flowers in Fog, Dream), Ji Chang Wook (Five Fingers, Bachelor's Vegetable Store) , Kim Suh Hyung (What is Mom, Salaryman) , and Jung Woong In (I Hear Your Voice, Ojakgyo Brothers) to star in MBC’s upcoming 50 episode drama, Empress Ki (they changed the name from Hwatu) that is to air on October 21 after Jung Yi, The Goddess of Fire.  The director is Han  Hee who also directed Time Slip: Dr. Jin and Over the Rainbow.  The writer is Jang Young Cheol who also wrote Incarnation of Money, Salaryman, and Giant.

The Yuan Dynasty has political governance over Goryeo.  Kin Chung Hye (Joon Ji Moo) is an intelligent king who is determined to rid Goryeo of Yuan Rule.  He will rival the Emperor in politics and love.  Lady Ki (Ha Ji Won) is a beautiful and talented woman from Goryeo who captures the heart of Yuan Emperor, Togon-Temur (Ji Chang Wook).  She becomes the royal concubine and ultimately Empress after she gives birth to the Emperor’s son.  The drama is about her trials through life in love and politics.  Kim Suh Hyung will play Queen Hwang and Jung Woong In will play Yeom Byung Soo.  I couldn’t find any information about their characters.  If I do, then I will update.

I’m not sure I can watch 50 episodes of a sageuk drama.  However, the cast makes it tempting.  I’m just not sure at this point.  What do you guys think?

The Face Reader is a Korean movie that came out in September.  It stars Song Kang Ho (The Attorney, Snowpiercer), Lee Jung Jae (The New World, The Thieves), Baek Yoon Sik (I am a King, Champ), Lee Jong Suk (No Breathing, R2B: Return to Base), Kim Hye Soo (The Thieves, Villain and Widow) and Jo Jung Suk (Time for Taiwan, Almost Che).  The writer Kim Dong Hyuk won the grand prize at the 2010 Korean Scenario Contest for a Screenplay.  It is directed by Han Jae Rim who also directed The Show Must Go On and Rules of Dating.

Nae Kyung (Song Kang Ho) is a skillful face reader of the Joseon period.  He lives in seclusion with his son Jin Hyung (Lee Jong Suk) and his brother-n-law.  Yeon Hong (Kim Hye Soo) who is a geisha and owns her own establishment visits Nae Kyung and convinces him to come to Hanyang (Seoul).  He begins to read the faces of Yeon Hong’s guests.  Eventually he successfully identifies a murderer and his skills are acknowledged by the king.  The king orders him to the palace to use his abilities to find traitors.  After King Moonjong dies, Nae Kyung is pulled between the Grand Prince Sooyang and the successor to the throne Danjong.

Blah, Blah, Blah…sounds like a lot of political junk and I’m not interested.  However, I thought some of you sageuk lovers out there might be.

Tough As Iron is a Korean movie produced by Cinema Service, ORM Pictures that comes out in October.  It stars Yoo Ah In (Punch, Sky and Ocean) and Kim Hae Sook (So Won, Band of Thieves).  The director is Ahn Kwon Tae who also directed Eye for an Eye and My Brother.

Gang Chul (Yoo Ah In) struggles to make money and doesn’t have a regular job but he keeps a positive frame of mind.  That is until his mother (Kim Hae Sook) gets Alzheimer’s disease and he can’t get a loan to pay for her medical bills. Desperate, he begins to work for a gang to pay his mother’s hospital stay.

As far as I’m concerned if it has Yoo Ah In in it, then I will watch it.  I watched Fashion King, for crying out loud.  He is one of those few actors that I would happily watch recite the phone book. Honestly, from watching the trailer, this looks like a great movie.

Thereis this drama called Three Days that is supposed to air on SBS in October, but I couldn’t find ANY casting information.  It is supposed to be the Korean version of the United States TV show 24. It is only 20 episodes and three days has 72 hours.  I don’t think it is going to be literal time like 24.  The director is Shin Kyung Soo who also directed Tree with Deep Roots.  The writer is Kim Eun Hee who also wrote Ghost and Sign.   The premise of the drama revolves around a presidential plot during an emergency that arises at the president’s villa and features Blue House bodyguards as the main characters.  I read somewhere that they may extend the date to December.  I’m guessing it has probably been extended considering I couldn’t find a cast, a picture, or a trailer.   I thought I would give you a heads up to be looking out for it if you are interested.  When they release casting information, I will update.
Don’t forget that Basketball, Reply 1994, and The Heirs will also be out in October.  For more information on those dramas checkout articles written about these dramas by:
CheerfulSoul : Reply 1994 and Heirs as well as myself, Basketball
Do any of these airing and upcoming dramas and movies look interesting to you?
