Cringe fest
This series definitely deserves some credit for bringing to light the need for mental health support, and of course Park Shin Hye is as awesome as she is able, given the director. The problem as is often the case is the Male lead overacting to such a cringe worthy degree. Park Hyung Sik delivers such a hammy whiney and immature performance it is almost impossible to believe any grown woman could be attracted to him unless she was looking for a child, not a boyfriend.

"Laughing Through Flaws: Unpacking [Doctor Slump] with PSH & PHS"
I'm glad it happened, and I watched it.TBH, when PSH got married, I was worried if she'd ever come back to acting.
But when I heard she was returning, I was too excited to even check what type of show it was. Later, when I found out it was exactly the kind of drama I like, I was relieved I wouldn't have to step out of my comfort zone just for PSH.
Plus, with PHS as the male lead, their chemistry was hot chemical.
Was it a long-lasting, memorable drama?
A Nah, there are definitely more memorable ones out there, whether it's rom-coms or medical dramas.
Was it a flawless project?
A. Nope. There were quite a few flaws (I'm not going into those details, as it'll be very long by then), but the lead's chemistry and PHS's comedic role made me overlook them.
Were all the characters well-written and bearable?
A Nope. Some characters annoyed me from start to finish. (Spoiler Alert: Hong Ran, Ba Da, and Wol Seon)
Is it worth a re-watch?
A In my opinion, nope. Once is enough.
Is the plot perfectly written?
A. Nope, the plot is full of plot holes.
Firstly,
I still have several questions unanswered in my mind regarding this drama. We'll never know the answers to it, as they were literally buried towards the end.
Secondly,
The overly drunken plot was cringe-worthy, to be honest! Like in the past, they tended to create side character stories much more detailedly to fill the gaps for fillers, but nowadays they use drunken plots as fillers.
Atlast,
The character development of the obnoxious characters felt suddenly unbelievable to grasp.
How was the acting?
A. I believe every single one of them did a tremendous job portraying their roles. I loved, admired, and sometimes loathed them.
Overall value?
A. It's not perfect, but it's enjoyable for a chill time. The comedy helps forget the bad stuff, making it an easy watch. So, I'd give it a solid 8.5.

haven’t seen a drama with this much raw and real emotions in awhile.
I was abit skeptical bc of PSH, but loved this drama. I know others have said it started out promising but failed to deliver, I disagree. It was a super cute romcom, but it was also so much more.I laughed and cried with all the characters.
I loved the way it was written and directed, including the voiceovers. It felt like I was reading the journals of the ML and FL and following their journeys in real time. It handled such raw and real emotions, with some hilarious moments in between.

Good story is stretched to a not good story
I rated 1st 5 episodes 5♦ , 2nd 5 episodes Mood Swing, and 3rd 4 episodes Little Goods with a bunch of bad 'yuck' goods.Don't say about full of lovey-dovey romantic idol life, no extra expression.
I think, this drama can be compressed into 12 episodes which may be more of a good drama like Park Shin Hye's drama like DOCTORS, Heartstrings.

Which made the drama boring, repetitive and lame towards the end
It was v.good till ep 09 but predictable from the beginning which I disliked a lot
Then ok till 11 then lame and boring towards the end
Although it was romcom
But many times it failed to deliver me the romantic atmosphere
I liked the second leads a lot
The make up for both main leads was extremely bad appears them too old and too exhausted as if they were both sick
This just one time watch drama not a drama i can keep to rewatch every now and then

Dumped the slump
The best I can do for my mental health right now is to drop this kdrama. This comes from someone diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder since 17 years of age.I shouldn't have picked it up. I don't enjoy this writer's dramas. I will stop trying, not matter how much I like the cast. It's not worth it.
The writer hasn't learnt anything since secretary Kim when she suggested wine to fight insomnia and/or didn't do her research.
I do understand Asian culture has intricacies that I might not totally appreciate or understand but they seem detrimental no matter what part of worldly society we're talking about.
Depression is, for sure, a real illness just like breaking a leg but its treatment isn't as straightforward. Depression is not something you work on like dieting to get a "summer body" (which is also problematic). It doesn't have a schedule and it's not a race to the top. It's more like a hurdles race in the middle of the forest with no signs or GPS, at night and alone and without a prize at the end.
Generically calling it depression when she seems to have a burn out from overwork and lack of rest and PTSD from the accident doesn't seem quite right but I'm not a doctor. Her psychiatrist also doesn't seem like one. I never saw a psychiatrist as smiley as that one. It was scary.
South Korea has a problem with work hours, making their workforce work the regular 40 hours plus 12 hours of overtime which amounts to 52 weekly work hours. And their government keeps wanting to increase them.
Dramas are, ultimately, a comment on society. If you're not accurately commenting or trying to breakdown society's problems, you're probably amounting to them.
If a drama doesn't intend to do social commentary, it should at least be entertaining. I wasn't entertained. Everyone turns out annoying. There's only so much bickering and immaturity one can handle.
There wasn't even romance. There's a limit to how many "I like you but I'm not ready, I'll only be ready for love once I'm not broken" one can handle. Most human beings are indeed "broken" and even "broken" people deserve love.
There was no romance, no chemistry, no humour. I won't be watching any more dramas by this writer. They're obviously not my thing.
p.s. don't drink alcohol to fight insomnia, alcohol is a stimulant and it will do you more harm than good, especially in the long-term. also, don't drink alcohol while taking medication, especially ones for a mental illness.
p.s.s. if you're struggling with depression, ask for help if you can. Also look around you to find out the root cause. It could be your brain chemistry fight against you or it could have another cause. Many times, it can also be a symptom of the capitalist society in which we're forced to participate. Taking meds when your brain is not ok is absolutely acceptable and fundamental but don't forget to get therapy as well.

I waited a long time for Park Shin Hye to return and her return was super disappointing.
I waited a long time for Park Shin Hye to return and her return was super disappointing. At first the plot seems to be about the existential crises that their job has left them with but they seem to leave all that aside for a high school romance, it doesn't make sense to me.
He's so cheesy you can't see him, his performances are so cringy. The characters are adults, they have adult lives but they still behave like teenagers.
The secondary story of the friends seemed much better to me, the formation of a new couple that already has children was super nice to see.

Another overrated drama
The reason I was so reluctant to watch this drama was Park Shin Hye. She is not my favorite actress at all. I always thought she was very unprofessional, especially in the kissing scenes. She always looked like she was being assaulted in the kissing scenes. I never understood why he kept getting involved in romantic dramas if he was uncomfortable doing kissing scenes. That made his colleagues also feel uncomfortable. I remember in The Heirs, it was in the script that they had to kiss for real but she was "surprised" but in the end they "were able to do it" when she literally left Lee Min Hoo like he was forcing her or something. But on the other hand there was Park Hyung Sik. So I decided to see him.
This drama started well but as it progressed it became more chaotic and boring. They didn't evolve, they continued to behave as if they were in high school. Much of the misunderstandings they had were because they did not know how to solve problems like two adults.
And it is disappointing that the secondary couple had a more realistic development and with more chemistry than the main characters themselves.
I have seen many dramas that portray depression and parents being unable to understand that being "successful" at work or academically is not the only thing that makes you feel really good about yourself or be happy.
I can say that they addressed the topic decently. Although if you are taking psychiatrist pills you should not drink, we all know that, right? I have really gotten used to the Korean alcohol culture, they always use some excuse to drink, but when you are under psychiatric treatment you should not drink or ingest other substances. It doesn't matter if they wanted to add a "cute" touch to it. It's not right for you to give that message. So I would say that they handled that situation in a very sloppy way.
When the mystery is over, the drama goes downhill and becomes very boring. Believe me, it took me 15 days to finish this drama because I was getting incredibly bored.
Honestly there was no chemistry between the protagonists. I think it would have been better if they remained friends. Their relationship was fine the way it was.
I honestly think it was unnecessary to add romance between the two of them.
Although Park Shin Hye seems to have improved her dislike of kissing scenes a bit. He wouldn't say it was a breakthrough or that there was a big passionate scene. He still can't create chemistry with his co-workers.
Park Shin Hye you are not forced to do romantic dramas. You can do thriller or mystery dramas. I think that would suit her better.
The acting was decent, I wouldn't say it was extraordinary. If not decent, nothing more. From both main actors.
The very forgettable ost. The cinematography doesn't stand out either.
The only thing I can say that the notable acting were the secondary ones. And what kept me watching this drama was only the secondary couple.
I can recommend many dramas that deal with mental health better. This for me is not recommended.

Everything and nothing
I’m usually not writing reviews, but this this is the first drama that I decided to watch until the end, even though it started to be boring much earlier.“-“:
- Yes, the drama had good introduction to the topic of depression. But as a person with depression, I was kinda LOL when it ended with the fact that they both went for help, got the pills and that’s it 😂🙉 Thank you, but that’s not how it works, especially with all the things they went through
- Storyline - the mystery was cool, but it was resolved so quickly that I just got bored later. The part of forgiveness was raised through so many episodes and cliche enough, they took it seriously only when it was life-death situation. Also, I feel like, because they had too many episodes to fill in, they were putting some random fillers, and fillers are fine but half of this drama felt like a filler episode
- Acting was not bad, but somehow the main couple irritated hell out of me. Rest of characters were funny, but not felt too much. Main was just… unbearable at few points
“+”:
- The beginning was good, it caught my attention very quickly which is not common, but like I said, I wish it could lasted longer
- As mentioned - topic of depression was introduced quite well
- Characters besides the main couple - I enjoyed their interactions very much, they were cute and funny
In the end, I wish they would make it 8 or maximum of 12 episodes - I do believe it would feel much better this way. I feel the story was dragged too much and I was just getting bored and irritated with it. It had good potential, but it was lost along the way.

Doctor Slump is a RomCom to start right now.
Are you enjoying the RomCom Doctor Slump, in spite of its serious message about Clinical Depression? Are not Park Shin Hye and Park Hyung Sik a perfect match for this Drama?Doctor Slump 2024 ‧ Medical Mystery RomCom
Quote: “It was once said in a movie . . . that failure and defeat meant different things. Anyone can fail, but defeat was an utter fiasco usually found in legends. I was defeated”. Male Lead explains his bout with depression and his life in general.
All those who have been waiting for Park Hyung Sik (Hwarang) to give a performance like his iconic performance in Strong Girl Nam Soon, you might want to check out Doctor Slump. Firstly, since his character starts off in High School, Park Hyun Sik is back to his skinny-K-Pop days. Secondly, Park Hyung sik’s roots are firmly planted in comedy, therefore, the RomCom Medical Mystery Doctor Slump plays to his strong suit. With the combination of Park Shin Hye playing the straight guy to Park Hyung sik’s funny guy, I see a hit for me with Doctor Slump. The drama series is not all fun and play though. Serious issues, like depression among Doctors, are addressed as well. There is great chemistry between the ML and FL and the series also takes a sobering look into the world of gapjil, or workplace violence and bullying. When you are the top in your class and you hit rock bottom, the failure seems ever so greater.
Quote: “During these hard times, if you have someone who could comfort you, would it help you to get better?” Female Lead.
Doctor Slump is quaint and cute and is a go from me. Laughter is the best medicine for what ails you. I laughed a lot with the Korean Drama Doctor Slump, in spite of the heavy noteworthy message about controlling depression.
Actors Corner
Both actors (Park Shin Hye and Park Hyung Sik) can be both serious and/or comedic actors, even with the same character. They both have the acting tools to pull it off. Both have such great acting ranges too. Doctor Slump is a great vehicle to showcase the acting strengths and talents of these two acting powerhouses.
As a particular acting strength, Park Shin Hye talks with her eyes. Whole sentences are embellished and punctuated by her eye expressions. Look for what she is saying with her eyes. Mommy is back. Park Shin Hye has carved her acting lane in Korean Drama since her early teens.
As an actor, Park Hyung Sik uses expressive hand movements, body shapes and levels, and voice changes to add entertainment value to his acting. This enhances the viewer experience. Park Hyung Sik must have a very comedic voice in his head. Please pay attention to his hand movements and body shapes which creates his own sign language. This is his acting signature.
