"Rough Cut" es una curiosa película con guion de Kim Ki-duk pero cuyo estilo es bastante diferente al de este añorado y recordado director, sobre todo gracias a la labor de Hun Jang, un buen realizador que se consagró años más tarde con la excelente "A Taxi Driver".Se trata de una cinta de acción con tintes de comedia y cine negro que nos narra una original historia de un gánster reconvertido a actor que presenta muchos momentos divertidos, pero a la que le falta ese puntito de brillantez que la haría situarse entre las grandes del Nuevo Cine Coreano.

La segunda obra maestra de Park Chan-wook.
Tras probar suerte en Norteamérica con la infravalorada "Stoker", Park Chan-wook volvió a consagrarse como uno de los mejores directores de las últimas décadas con esta impresionante muestra de cine negro con tintes de thriller erótico y que a la vez resulta desgarradoramente romántico.El reparto, la música, la fotografía, el guion... Todo alcanza a un nivel excelso para terminar de dar forma a otra obra maestra a la que se le pueden perdonar incluso algunos excesos en su último tercio, ya que en mi opinión no empañan el resultado final sino que dotan al conjunto de una mayor personalidad.

Una película fundamental para entender el nacimiento del Nuevo Cine Coreano.
Muchos críticos sitúan el nacimiento del nuevo cine coreano en esta película.Yo no estoy de acuerdo, ya que desde mediados de los 90 existían cintas que estaban renovando la industria cinematográfica de este país con nuevas propuestas, y productores que estaban cambiando la forma de hacer cine desde dentro.
Pero sí hay que admitir que esta "The Quiet Family" es muy representativa de esta época, al ser una obra que mezcla géneros como el terror, la comedia y el thriller de forma magistral, poniendo en la palestra a Kim Jee-woon, y a actores como Song Kang-ho y Choi Min-sik.

¡Bastante mejor de lo que me esperaba!
Pese a que no es de las películas más apreciadas del gran Kim Jee-woon, esta "Illand" está bastante infravalorada en mi opinión.Basada en el manga de Mamoru Oshii, se trata de una cinta de acción y ciencia ficción que se puede considerar una mezcla entre "Robocop" y "Terminator" en términos cinematográficos, pero a la que hay que añadirle la impoluta realización y maravillosa composición de planos de Kim, así como el buen trabajo de su estoico protagonista Gang Dong-won.
Así que si te gusta la acción con toques ochenteros y la obra de Kim Jee-woon, esta película te encantará.

Una de las mejores comedias románticas que jamás he visto.
En contra de lo que pueda parecer por su título y su portada, "My Sassy Girl" es una de las comedias románticas más profundas y cargadas de lirismo de su década.Cierto que ciertos tramos de la cinta pueden ser un pelín cargantes pero una vez aflora el auténtico espíritu y el mensaje que quiere transmitir el excelente guion escrito por Kim Ho-sik y por el propio director Kwak Jae-young , la historia de sus dos personajes principales cala tan hondo que se hace muy difícil de olvidar, haciendo de esta película una gran experiencia aunque odies las comedias románticas.

Muy buen thriller policíaco de acción.
Tras aumentar tremendamente su popularidad gracias a la estupenda "Train to Busan", Ma Dong-seok protagonizó en 2017 esta película policíaca con el leit motiv de la guerra de bandas de fondo, hecha al servicio de esta especie de Bud Spencer a la coreana.Es una cinta que deja cierta huella sobre todo por sus estupendas escenas de acción, los impactantes métodos que emplea la banda china con tal de alcanzar sus objetivos, y el buen enemigo principal interpretado brillantemente por Yoon Kyesang, que es sin duda lo mejor de una cinta especialmente recomendada para los que busquen acción sin complicaciones.

Junto con La Isla, lo mejor de la primera etapa de Kim Ki-duk.
Tras la horrible "Wild Animals", Kim Ki-duk volvió a dar un volantazo a su carrera con esta "Birdcage Inn" en la cual vuelve al estilo sucio e intimista de la primigenia "Crocodile".Aquí realiza otro descarnado y realista retrato de los bajos fondos, no sin ello ofrecer buenas muestras de poesía visual como se observa en la imagen que ilustra esta crítica, que fue usada de portada. Consigue que la humedad de la costa te cale hasta los huesos mientras ves la película, y en cierto modo es un anticipo a lo que veríamos en "La Isla".
Recomendable, en definitiva.

Una auténtica joya oculta.
Tras la pequeña decepción que me supuso "Nameless Gangster" la siguiente pelicula de Yoon Jong-bin no me hacía especial ilusión. ¡Pero qué equivocado estaba!"Kundo" es una cinta de acción histórica que recuerda en ocasiones a "El Bueno, El Malo y el Raro" y al cine de Akira Kurosawa al ser realmente un Western camuflado, donde Ha Jung-woo demuestra su versatilidad bordando el papel protagonista y que nos ofrece un ritmo trepidante, unas escenas de acción espectaculares donde destaca la lucha de espadas y un carácter desenfadado y casi caricaturesco que le otorga una personalidad especial.
¡Toda una joya oculta!

This movie offers a charming yet an uneven viewing experience. Although there are a lot of heart warming and emotional moments, it leaves a lot to be desired at the end. Truly a lost potentialThe basic plot is rather simple. Golf, a miscreant at school finds that his father has remarried is now has to share his house with his step-brother Bank. Initially Golf mistreats Bank but slowly starts developing feelings for him. As the story progresses, we find Golf and Bank interacting with each other and the feelings blossoming between them. And as is customary in almost all love stories, there is initial jealousy followed by confession.
This movie lacks in the execution of the plot and rather falls for the cliched BL tropes. There is the initial jealousy when another guy shows interest in Bank. Post the confession, there are a few moments of tenderness and affection but the movie sways again to the familiar tropes of misunderstanding and societal pressure. This is followed by the mandatory third act breakup between the main couple and silent suffering. But I was certainly blind-sided by the last 15 min as the movie decides to take a hard turn. The movie also suffers from uneven pacing and terrible editing, thereby creating confusion. Also, the characters while charming, could benefit from deeper exploration.
In conclusion, “My Bromance” is a decent movie that suffers from uneven packing, choppy editing and reliance on cliches. Those seeking a more profound and emotionally resonant experience might find it lacking.

Emotionally, I just couldn't feel any connection with the story or characters. I got an hour in before dropping it. It's half the movie, so I feel like I gave it a fair shot.

"Nameless Gangster" siempre me produjo altas expectativas, ya que tenía los ingredientes necesarios para apasionarme: un buen director como es Yoon Jong-bin, dos de mis actores favoritos como son Choi Min-sik y Ha Jung-woo, y una trama de puro cine negro que nos mostraba en mundo del hampa coreano en los años 70.Sin embargo, a la película le ha faltado algo para llegar a atraparme realmente... No sabría decir exactamente qué. Pero sí sé que a "Nameless Gangster" le falta esa pizca de brillantez, de genio, que le impide colocarse entre las grandes.
Aún así, es un película recomendable.

This Drama is so well acted, it blew me away! Probably one of the best I’ve seen. The story/plot is a bit confusing at times. It’s the kind of drama that goes back and forth between current life and past life to build the story. It gives each character involved their point of view on the subject at hand. It is frustrating at times, but only because you want the truth to come out for everyone involved. This is a well written, directed, produced, and especially acted Drama. The child actors have a bright acting future ahead of them! I will absolutely watch this again. I’m sure when I do, I will pick up on things I missed the first time around. I especially liked the ending. When you watch it, you’ll know what I mean. I finished this Drama days ago, but it is still in my head. It’s that kind of Drama. El motivo por el que vi "Office" es por haber sido la primera película como director de Hong Won-Chan, brillante guionista de cintas como "The Chaser", "The Yellow Sea" o "Confession of Murder", todas ellas bastante buenas.Sin embargo, y curiosamente, esta "Office" no está escrita por él. Y se nota, ya que el guion no tiene en absoluto la solidez necesaria para desarrollar adecuadamente esta especie de slasher a la coreana que pese a resultar entretenido, termina fracasando por lo inverosímil de su propuesta, por su falta de profundidad y por su previsible tramo final.

"Forgotten" es una película que llegó a mí por casualidad a través de una plataforma de streaming, y me encontré un thriller con toques de terror y ciencia ficción alucinante, de esos que marcan la diferencia dentro del cine de Corea del Sur.Cada giro de guion es más sorprendente que el anterior, la dirección de actores es magistral, y el ritmo de la cinta una delicia, que te atrapa sin remedio hasta el final.
Sin duda hay que seguirle la pista al tal Jang Hang-jun, quien al parecer ha vuelto a destacar en 2023 con la bien valorada "Rebound".
