Acting/Cast: Fujiwara Tatsuya was the biggest factor when I decided to finally give the movie a try. After viewing Light in a certain way for all of these years, I really wasn't a fan of his portrayal of him at first. But, as time went on, and I continued watching, I really ended up loving him in the role.
Matsuyama Kenichi is the perfect L. Everything from the way he talks, to the way he sits, to the way he acts, was just totally spot-on. I had absolutely no trouble believing he was L.
The rest of the characters didn't get too much time of their own, but when they did, I wasn't disappointed.
Music: Honestly, I don't remember much of the music from this movie. There's the suspenseful music every now and then, but that's all I remember.
After being so used to hearing it every few minutes in the anime whenever Light's coming up with a new plan, it was kind of disappointing to have it lacking in the movie.
Rewatch Value: After watching the anime repeatedly, and reading the manga just as much, I can safely say I would do the same with the movie.
Overall: Overall, the only things I can think to complain about were the music and the occasional slowness. Like I said though, it's pretty much a given when watching a Japanese movie, so it didn't bother me enough to not give this movie a 10.

Smuggler is about a freeter trying to find his way through life. True to “find your way” movies he goes through a bunch of horrible things (mainly brought on by misplaced kindness) and draws upon his one skill for help. This character is drug into the underbelly of society and has to deal with issues within his own self to fight for his right to live.
What I didn’t like is the lack of Matsuda Shota, he is on the screen for 3 minutes at the most. I also really didn’t like the supporting cast; I think they were supposed to be comical and ironic (in a very dark way) but it didn’t come across well. I couldn’t figure out was the genre was dark comedy? Action? Slice of life? Tragedy? Maybe it was lost in translation because the movie only committed to its action and fighting scenes everything else was hazy. Smuggler was wayyyy gruesome and they really over did it with the awful special effects and makeup making it unfit to eat and watch. (At one point a guy was crawling on the ceiling like in a shinobi movie!!)
The movie as a whole has some great characters, a good concept and if I understand correctly it was based on a manga that I haven’t read. The whole thing felt rushed, with the exception of fight scenes, the screenplay writer crammed as many characters and situations as he could into the mere minutes he had to let this play out. Many characters seemed to have problems and situations that really needed to be addressed but were not. The main character seemed lifeless, and though acted very well, was overpowered by other characters. I am so sad I spent almost half a year waiting anxiously for this movie to come out and be subbed only to be so disappointed.
I gave it a 5 because the actors were good, Shota had a cameo, and the concept was interesting.
I wouldn’t rewatch it, but if you are looking into this one- understand this is a rushed manga adaptation.

I loved this movie very moving. I thought that the story was rly well done considering it was based on a true piece of history. I also thought the acting was amazing, but TOP is my bias (totaly fangirl)! I am not sure I would be able to watch this again just b/c I love TOP & don't know if I can handle (slight spoiler) watching him die more than once. Other than that I thought it was rly good. The characters r well built (considering the time frame) and even though not much is said b/t ppl there is a silent understanding b/t the characters that was not hard to understand. It was all very interesting and I enjoyed it even though I wanted to cry. OK, I rly didn't want to cry, but it made my heart hurt a little. Good movie, great actors, and a lot of war. I recomend it to others just b/c of the historical value and maybe it would make ppl think twice about what they r rly doing b-4 they decide to go to war.

Xu Jiao was great as Mei and Eric Lin was also good as Jay.
Starry Starry Night is a sweet and simple story of adolescence, personal development and innocent love.
This movie is filled with rich visuals. Visual effects like paper animals and three legged elephant have connection with characters’ emotions and that adds extra charm to this movie.
There isn't anything more to tell about this movie. Its just beautiful...simple yet effective.

There's no gratuitous violence or gore. This is intelligent fare, complex and visceral as only the Japanese can make. The lead actress was amazing in her role. Even if you can't relate to her situation as a mother, if you're not one yourself, her devastating experience is gut-wrenching enough to inspire horror and torment. Through her heartbreaking soft-spoken recollections of her daughter you could feel how deeply entrenched her pain was, her simmering rage at the senseless act that had befallen her beloved child. In short, she was a very sympathetic figure, and the psychological mayhem she unleashed on the perpetrators in pursuit of revenge seemed poetically justified against the backdrop of the film's visually stunning mosaic.
As with many Japanese films I've seen of late, Confessions was slow to build, but raged toward a pulsating climax by the end of the second act. Dark and artistically fortified by the director's unique eye for detail the film will challenge any perceptions you ever had, if any, about juvenile homicide.
With that said Confessions fell short of a perfect 10 for me because I felt it was trying too hard to be too many things at once. It did not achieve a perfect balance between art and story. Instead one is often sacrificed in pursuit of the other at varying points in the film. The best art movies are those that are able to combine both art and story seamlessly (see movies like 3-iron or In The Mood For Love). At times I felt certain scenes in Confessions were included to fortify its artistic merit but not necessarily essential to the story at hand.
The film deserves every accolade, however, for breathing new life into the revenge sub-genre, especially if your previous consumption has been mostly western fare. I enjoyed it thoroughly and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a thinking (wo)man's film.

The story was simple, one I've seen a number of times before in western cinema, but interesting for me nonetheless because of the exotic location and culture in which it plays out. Ever since I started watching Asian films on a regular basis a whole new world has been opened up to me. I'm discovering a lot about a region of the world I didn't really know or care so much about until recently.
The heroine's wide-eyed innocence took a little getting used to, but overall she had great chemistry with the hero. I did have difficulty suspending belief from time to time when it came to their romance because the age gap was just a tad distracting. Chae-rin didn't look a day pass 14 (even though she's actually 19) whilst Young-sae looked to be in his mid-to-late 30s. Every time I'd see them together I'd cringe a little because the cradle robber factor was coming across pretty strong. Haha. Also the fact that Chae-rin constantly referred to him as "sir" and "mister" served to only compound the issue.
That being said, however, there were a few very comedic and sweet moments between the two, and it was nice to see that under his gruff exterior Young-sae had a good heart. I think every once in a blue moon I might re-watch this.

Love Letter is an unconventional love story. Many people say it has slow pace but in my opinion it is perfectly paced. It seems boring first (I didn't find any part of it boring) but when story starts to unfolds it won’t seem boring. Unfolding of story is great. The storyline can be a bit confusing at first but stick with it and you will be amazed by it. It is touching and sometimes it is very funny also. You can feel the true love from this film.
Nakayama Miho is wonderful in double role. Sometimes I got confused between her double roles.
Its soundtrack is melodic and perfect.
Highly recommended!! Love Letter is an earnest, pure, sentimental, and undeniably moving film. In addition you can see really beautiful sceneries of Japan.

I often have a sneaking suspicion of Korean romantic dramas because I'm always expecting someone to die. As a result I didn't think I'd like this movie, but I did. We have all experienced the story before: boy meets girl, they fall in love ... maybe one more so than the other. Nothing special. What made it good was Yoo Ji Tae. He did a really good job of making me empathize with his character. I felt his struggle, so much so that I wanted to reach into the movie and give him a hug. Haha.
The supporting cast, esp the hero's family, were pretty good too. Grandma gave one of the best piece of advice about women I've heard in a long time.
I also loved the scenery in this movie. Due to the nature of our hero's job Korea's natural beauty was very much emphasized here. The more I watch K-movies the more fascinated I become with its culture, its food and its people. My mind's now made up: the next vacation will be to South Korea.
Finally, the ending of One Fine Spring Day was very appropriate. Life is rife with tough decisions, but we gotta make 'em and rock on.

The film which catapulted little known Lee Jun Ki into instant stardom all over Asia. Yes I admit quite candidly that I watched this movie for my recently found Jun Ki mania but I'm going to remember this movie for the masterpiece it is rather than just a random K-movie featuring LJK. The controversy regarding the racy humor used throughout the movie notwithstanding, the movie is a fine portrayal of love, friendship and betrayal. It is heart-warming to see the effeminate Gong Gil and the heroic Jang Seng's relationship, which was most certainly much more than just friendship. At the height of utter despair and chaos in their lives, when they flee from the countryside in the hopes of a better life in Seoul, the way they act out the parts of two blind men in the middle of nowhere is a treat to watch. That is perhaps the most poignant scene from the film barring the one at the very end. There's a puzzle in the title of the movie since it leaves you in doubt about who the real king is. In my opinion it's Jang Seng rather than the tyrannical, literal king since he desires to be a commoner even in his next life and chooses the right to live on his own terms rather than living a life of luxury whose terms will be dictated by others. He is the real king of the movie. The actors have portrayed their parts to perfection. Jeong Jin Yeong has done especially well in conveying the inner turmoil the King suffered from, his eccentricities and frequent displays of mindless cruelty. Excellent acting by Kam Woo Sung as well. And last but not the least, LJK proves in this movie that he IS after all an actor and not just a great looker. I think it will be hard for even a straight guy to resist his charms after watching this movie.

Very light on plot, the leads had no chemistry whatsoever, the acting was wooden ... at best. There were some beautiful shots, but the story went for a walk and never came back. I think the problem lies in the premise of the film - a woman randomly walks into a stranger's apartment and begins a sporadic affair with him. Each time the woman's cell phone rings she'd disappear for days then return without explanation. Baffled and unable to help his fascination with the mysterious woman, the hero takes her in each time even though he knows next to nothing about her since she flat out refuses to tell him anything meaningful about herself.
He wonders, like we do, whether she's high or just crazy due to some very bizarre and erratic behaviour. Why he falls so hopelessly, head over heels in love with her is anybody's guess. She basically leads him around like a dog on a leash and not in cute romantic way. The entire film resulted in him trying to solve the puzzle that was this woman. Problem is, though, her story wasn't interesting enough to hold my attention. In fact, I thought it was rather ridiculous.
First of all, who behaves in this way? I find both their actions so bizarre and unbelievable. A woman walks into some guy's, who she doesn't know from Adam, place and takes up residence just like that? And the hero letting this strange woman in, giving her a key to his apartment when he doesn't know if she's setting up to rob or kill him? Come on now. Who does that?
I'm sorry to say it was a waste of time. The whole thing was just very poorly developed and executed. I watch a lot of films and being a filmmaker myself I'm very lenient on how I judge other people's efforts. It takes a lot for me to completely fail a film, but this simply left a lot to be desired.
There were no redeeming qualities except that the hero was absolutely gorgeous. But if you need a little more than a pretty face to hold your attention, don't bother with this one. Not even the romantic scenes were interesting enough to carry this lacklustre romantic drama. I doubt I'll ever watch it again.

I saw this movie when I was in early stage of exploration Korean movies. I didn't know what to expect from this. I watched this movie when my taste of movie was changing and it contributed very much in changing my movie taste. This is my favorite love story.
Failan has a very solid story. It’s a new kind of romance/drama story. At first glance it doesn’t look like a story which can grab you next to screen for 115 minutes and sometimes it is slow but believe me it has ability to grab you for almost 2 hours. It is a realistic story and after watching this movie many people will have a question about characters’ love.
The acting and cast is excellent. This movie is equipped with super talented Choi Min-Shik and Cecilia Cheung. Both are great and gave amazing performance.
And about ending…..I won’t say whether it is sad or happy but it’s one of the best endings I’ve seen so far. It is the most beautiful ending.
I’ve to say that this movie is not for everyone because it is really slow. But if you want to see a movie that truly touches your heart then this is the movie for you. This is really a great movie and any movie lover should watch this movie at-least once. This is highly recommended movie for those who seeks a different kind of story and new type of love story.

I’m not sure if this is a must-watch or not. The plot kind of bugged me, but the acting was gorgeous. Anyway, the movie’s quite amusing so I guess it won’t hurt to watch it. Oh, and did I mention that Daniel Choi’s too adorable for words? He’s officially on my radar now.
