I was introduced to the world of anime, drama, and movie via the manga Fruits Basket. It's excellent and everyone that is interested in Japanese shoujo should read it.

What really got me into dramas and movies was my discovery of k-pop the winter of the 11th grade. This discovery was also the reason that I made it through high school and ended up going to university and in turn studying Japanese. Thank you k-pop and Donghae (see Skip Beat, The Youth, etc.)

I'm really a fan of anything that pulls on the heartstrings or makes me think. Recently that has been Japanese movies about friendship. They are deep and painful but approach really important topics.  Now that I live in Japan, I more or less exclusively watch Japanese content given the accessibility of anything that I may want to watch or buy.
