Both are written by the same author, they are both BL and happen in a Xianxia setting. So you get cultivators, and period costumes, and adventure as well as that BL romance.
Both have the gaming aspect of it (while one is robots and the other is online gaming). Both of the relationships develop around the gaming world. Both the male leads are "nice" and don't sway once their heart is set on the woman they love. For both the male leads this is their first experience with love.
It is all about gaming, teams, competitions, and developing a love story within this setting. Go Go Squid 2 is about robots instead of online games.
While the premises are very different, the feel of it was similar.
You have the "life back then" aspect of it; you get to experience how life was back in 1998 in Taiwan. You also have the family and friend aspect of it; you get to see the friendships developing and turning into more, as well as the relationship with the family improving. As well as the heartfelt feelings between the leads, the patience and the love.
That being said, 1988 is purely a "slice of life" drama vs. Someday also has a time travel element, as well as a murder mystery added to it.
Both of these dramas are excellent, and highly recommended.
