5 Reasons to Watch: OUR GAP SOON
Reason # 1: Hot leads with huge chemistry!
Our leading pair is famously known as the Solim couple from previously filming together in We Got Married. They definitely have a huge fan base that is hanging on their every word and coupling characters up within this drama so far! Gap Soon, played by Kim So Eun, and Gab Dol, played by Song Jae Rim, are a couple in the drama who have dated for 10 years. Gab Dol has not been able to pass his career-changing exam and time has worn away, so now he has a variety of bad habits.
For myself, having not been privy to their moments on WGM, I was frustrated at first with the character traits Gab Dol portrays in the early episodes, because we see him as a nonchalant slacker who abuses his girlfriend’s kindness and generosity. This leaves room for redemption of his wayward ways, but that might take some time!
This fella is in dire need of maturity and growth. He really owes it to our sweetie Gap Soon, who is overworked and has done everything within her power to support and care for Gab Dol. Sometimes, as a viewer, you want to smack the immaturity out of him, or at least hope he begins the road to character redemption. His behaviour is one of the main strong elements of 'drama' within the drama.
Reason #2: Development of characters in crisis.
Our main characters are really testing each other here. When Gap Soon takes a pregnancy test, which results in a positive, she and Gab Dol decide to try living together, and to later let their parents know they plan to get married after the baby is born.
But when Gap Soon is taken to the hospital, her brother (a doctor) discovers her pregnancy test was a false positive due to her extreme stress. This settles in differently for both Gab Dol and Gap Soon, who have to come to terms with the fact that the experience they went through of living together in order to come together and care for their possible child has now fallen apart.
Every time we think Gab Dol has learned his lesson, he stoops to a new low.
It really makes you feel for hardworking and self-sacrificing Gap Soon. When will this guy she has adored and dated for 10 years make those crucial changes in his life to pass his exam, quit goofing around, and marry her like he promised?
Reason #3: Well-casted side characters.
All featured families in this drama are fairly twisted with their own life circumstances clawing away at them. We are literally pulled into the crazy dynamic of everyone’s issues, so it’s definitely not boring. As a viewer, you come to adore, feel sympathy for, and hate some of these characters. The side characters are a mixed bag of con-artists, overbearing mothers, rude children, and snide relatives.
Take this guy for instance; he doesn't have a chairman, only a scheming father trying to get him married into a wealthy family.
Reason #4: New Beginnings
The writing is definitely making way for our characters who separate or are overwhelmed by life to leave room for new beginnings or a fresh start, not to mention a very likely second chance at love. For our leads, it won’t be easy, especially with two mothers who rival each other both in attitude and in directing their children’s lives.
When Gab Dol decides to once again call it quits and break Gap Soon's heart, we know these two are going to end up together! There is a whole lot of 'drama' left to be played out.
Reason #5: A Weekend Drama
Ooh! Delight!! Sometimes there is nothing better than a weekend drama to follow up on those cliffhanger endings after enjoying your week day drama line-up. This drama will definitely deliver all the family nonsense and rough patch young love to give you that drama fix! It will tide us over until new spring dramas debut. Slated for 50 episodes, we will have a story with a lot of substance and side character story lines to get us through the season. There is also great potential for this story despite the currently mixed opinions and reviews on it. It really is smothered in the 'dramatics' which makes viewers intrigued, frustrated, and hooked for more!
With their families against them being together and trying to succeed in passing their exams, the struggle is real for both Gap Soon and Gab Dol. How will our lead pair overcome all these hardships which are stacking up against them, meet their parents expectations, and find a way to be together?
