RECAP: Virus ep 3

Hello! And I’m so sorry the recap is late! My computer was being shady and I couldn’t send in the recap. It’s all my fault, don’t blame JC. Punish me! As a gift, and to ensure that you guys know that I know what I put you through, here’s a meme.
Can I just say, I really like their theme. –very snazzy and the operatic music adds a nice dramatic flair. Ok, onto the show!

We open on Inchul driving away in the cab. His relief is cut short when he realizes that it’s the same taxi driver he had on the subway. Soogil is devastated to find that Myunghyun too might now be infected. Inchul gets out of the taxi, where he thinks about what Myunghyun said and we get a flashback to when he was at the hospital. We get to see that he has picked up a tail.

Meanwhile, Myunghyun is disinfecting himself, all while thinking of his daughter’s death and wife. Myunghyun barricades himself in his office, and the team waits in shock. He takes a blood sample and makes a long deep gash in his own arm, then sews himself back up! (We learn he was a surgeon before joining the CDC).

Soogil informs the team that Myunghyun’s wife is infected. Myunghyun orders Sejin to test his blood for infection.

This episode is bringing on the feels, with more memories of his adorable daughter, while he sobs looking at the family photo. He calls the team, and a tearful Jooyoung answers. It’s sweet to see him comfort her and the team. Nice to know they’ve got comradery. He tells them to find the relationship between Sangrok Hospital and Inchul, and assigns tasks. And a heart in throat moment when he asks Soogil to manage the team while he’s in self -quarantine.

Inchul goes to the ER, and reports symptoms that his friend had. He coughs onto the doctor examining him. The doctor finds nothing strange, but Inchul asks for a blood test and says Vir-, when the doctor gets called away. Inchul notices a white guy in the corner. It’s the same guy who asked for directions to City Hall earlier.

Inchul walks out of the ER, White Guy (here after known as Beardie) follows and loses sight. Inchul looks for places to hide, while Beardie looks for “Pigeon,” which is apparently what these guys (the loan sharks?) are calling him. Beardie meets up with the taxi driver from before to keep looking, Inchul safely escapes in an ambulance., allowing me to start breathing again. Everyone’s on edge waiting for Myunghyun’s results, Myunghyun’s wife looks a little worse than before. Hopefully, this is not foreshadowing anything.

A meeting at the Blue House itself –Dojin asks about vaccine progress. Director Shim and Dr. Yoon get into a little spat about the canceled research 2 years ago. (What is it with this research? It keeps popping up, and people get more annoying with each mention.) Back at Nasan Hospital, Dr. Yoon fumes to Sejin. He wants to make sure that they are the ones to find a vaccine.

Cut to Inchul living with other homeless people. Sundong runs into the room with the results. Negative. Phew. The team has a mini celebration which is cut off by the need to find Inchul. Jiwon remembers that her car might have footage and Sundong reminds them about the loan sharks involvement. Meanwhile, Reporter Jung is digging. He finds out that DaeYoung Industry bought the old mental hospital to use it as a “warehouse.”

He finds out lots about the fires, including that DaeYoung is a paper company (meaning that it’s not real, just a façade to protect another real company). DaeYoung Industry has bought other hospitals where fires occurred as well. The team finds out that the taxi that hit Myunghyun was deliberate.

Myunghyun and an apprehensive Sundong go visit some loan sharks. A minion lets slip that Inchul should be dead. The Boss steps in and asks if Inchul is alive. The Hospital Chairman had asked the sharks to find people whose disappearance wouldn’t be a problem, to sell to the hospital. After they leave, the sharks start looking for Inchul, who had “sold” his body to them.

Soogil thinks Inchul and the taxi driver are teamed together. A homeless grandpa offers Inchul food, trying to cheer him up. Myunghyun checks in on Saein, while remembering Joohee’s death.

The doctor Inchul met a few days ago is brought to the hospital and tells Sejin about Inchul. The ER is sealed off, and all the employees have to be tested. CCTV footage shows Inchul leaving the ER and Beardy and taxi driver looking for something. Myunghyun puts the 2 together, and figures they must be looking for Inchul as well, only why?

Flashback to Inchul’s time at Sangrok. Inchul tries to leave the burning building, but the doctor from the first episode tries to hold him back, Inchul escapes his clutches and runs off (very zombie apocalypse *shudders*).

Back at HQ, the team is trying to solve the puzzle. Now, that they know that this outbreak wasn’t an accident, they need to find Inchul more than ever. Back to Inchul, who feels something’s wrong with Grandpa, he moves the blanket to find that Grandpa’s dead. At HQ, Jooyoung’s screen goes crazy, showing lots of new cases at once. The disease is spreading much faster than expected.

Didn’t expect a shower scene in this drama, but who am I to judge? Myunghyun gets a call saying that Kim Inchul is in the lobby. He races down and shouts “Everyone stay away from him. He’s an H5N1 variant virus carrier.” It’s a bit sad to see everyone scurrying away.

There’s a (weird?) scene at Nasan, Sejin is injecting Myunghyun’s wife with something, and seems a bit too intense, even through goggles. In the CDC lobby, Myunghyun and Inchul have a stare-off.

Well, thank the kdrama gods that Inchul turned himself in! I couldn’t take another episode of ‘Where’s Inchul?’ And of course, vaccine –yay! Overall, a lot of things happened, which kept the story moving, and now that they have Inchul you know something is going to go wrong, so I’m already curious as to what that is. The whole gangsters sold me to a hospital for testing thing is scary though. But it also means that Beardy & Taxi are part of a different organization. Perhaps, from the Bespectacled Man? And I need to know what’s the deal with Sejin, he’s got this whole creepy, charming, I’m going to kill you after our wonderful date because society hurt me thing going on. (Sorry Kiwoo oppa –I still love you!) I really hope it’s just a red herring to throw us off, and he’s just bitter about the research. Virus is picking up the pace, and now that we’ve got over finding Inchul, it’s only bound to get better.
