Great Educational Drama

First off I'd like to say that this is mainly an educational anti-fraud drama. Don't expect action packed drama, sizzling romance, thriller, or any of that sort. If you're here looking for action or romance you will be disappointed. Don't bother watching if you get bored easily at lectures, Reba's character and other characters will try to lecture you in various Chinese laws and saying it out loud many times! Watch this only if you want to learn about Chinese laws and how the people's procuratorate work with the public safety bureau in handling cases. If you like Chinese crime drama, this is worth a shot. This drama has a theme of female empowerment, and like what her character says in the end, there are not many female prosecutors in real life. The drama is mostly told from the FL's pov and she has much more screen time than the ML, her character is powerful, independent, and intelligent.

Reba's acting in this drama is very good, she uses her own voice too. I am happy to see that she took this challenge and performed admirably, and I can't wait for her next upcoming realistic drama which is already announced. In general every actors and actresses perform their job well. The plot is quite interesting, grounded, and realistic, it is not as convoluted or epic like in some fictional detective drama because it is based on real cases after all. However it is not very predictable, and the show will make you keep guessing what each character is actually like. The topic is interesting, cyber crime fraud is a pretty recent phenomenon and there are not many shows that deals with that, compared to more traditional crime such as fighting illegal drugs. While not as epic and deep as those anti-corruption cdramas with high douban rating (eg. The Knockout, In The Name of The People), I think the story is good enough and most importantly, this drama serves its main purpose which is to educate the masses in the form that is more palatable. Unfortunately, this purpose also mean that there are a lot of lines in the script which serve to "educate" the viewer rather than being interesting or advancing the plot, which will bore some viewers.

Domestically this drama is well received, and they are considering a sequel. The MDL rating in this drama is very unfair, and best ignored if you like this genre. There are too many people who review bomb this for various reasons:
- People who only come here for Reba and they can't handle a serious non-romance drama. Serious drama in general is underrated on this site.
- People who watch dramas for handsome young actors. Dramas without good looking actors are also underrated here.
- People who get triggered by the positive portrayal of Chinese government.
- This drama starts slow, and many cases are introduced making it quite confusing in the beginning and therefore people don't have the patience for it. However it gets more interesting after the country F arc and eventually more and more things get clearer.

Overall this drama is not perfect but it definitely is not worse than many of those idol romance dramas with better rating here. Always keep in mind that the target audience for this are domestic audience, not foreign fans.

Great Acting, Hot Mess in a Dress Script

Watched this to see Dilraba taking on a new type of role and recognized 2 other actors from previous series. Also read the article on this as since this was supposed to be based on a true story of an international cybercrime syndicate. So was hoping for something substantial, what I got was great acting from basically everyone but an absolutely lousy hot mess in a dress script.

Pros: Reba should definitely take on more of these types of roles as she was awesome as An Ni. Very convincing be it in her personal or professional life. As I mentioned in the comments, Han Dong is great at playing an antagonist who makes your skin crawl. From the moment he stepped onscreen, you knew something was off about him. The cast couldn't be better and more professional. That however is where the pros end.

Cons: Fire all directors and screenwriters. What happened here? This had so much promise as a based on a true story series and instead it was turned into an alphabet soup of countries where every European looking actor could speak Mandarin and even the courts looked alike, the costumes were either not fitting or too big and the extras couldn't even hold their props. The story took a nose dive in the single digit episodes. I don't even remember how much went wrong but a lot did.

It ended up being about a genius who was abused and abandoned by his mom with massive daddy issues getting revenge on his father while creating a massive cybercrime network that treated its employees like slaves. He himself was the last person one thought would be the one behind it all; but he did show as a narcissistic sociopath who saw nothing wrong with his crimes and whose manipulative behavior made him fall for FL the prosecutor.

The entire thing was like a bad docuseries that should have been made for Chinese law students because whole episodes consisted of speeches about their law system. Just fast forward because no one outside their country understood how it worked. I have a background in law though in the US and the stuff and the speed they spit things out, you couldn't follow. Also their absolute lack of knowledge of other countries laws that seemed to be important to the main case was laughable. Example: to say that a Chinese attorney who got a J.D. and passed the bar exam in California automatically got onto the US Supreme Court was dumb. Firstly he had to be a federal prosecutor, then go through a boat load of nominations from governor, senators to even have a chance. Also had to be nominated/chosen by a sitting president and pass through the senate or congress. It's a huge, complicated process and they made it seem like by passing a bar exam one can get there.

They remembered it was a drama in the last maybe 6 episodes and started just writing lord knows what in. I literally had no words and wasn't even sure I was going to write a review. Some characters that were constant, just up and disappeared and were never seen again with zilch explanation. Even the ending was like someone drunk wrote it. Frankenstein's monster was better put together than this.

Would I recommend it? No way. If it wasn't for Dilraba and wanting to know who A was and the outcome, I would have dropped it long ago. All of these actors deserve better scripts on these topics.

amazing show with awesome storylines and acting

First female prosecute show... with amazing story telling and its implementation.. great choice actors and role play... After reading several reviews and comments , I expected this drama to be pretty bad, but surprisingly, it’s not as horrible as the comments and reviews have made it seem... Its quite a great underrated show with great synopsis... An Ni is the top student at a prestigious law school. Her reputation has brought her to the attention of some of the nation’s top legal bodies. Upon entering the Procurator ate, China’s top public prosecution body, she is assigned to a new department. The department’s chiefs think that as a “new face,” she will help provide the department with new ideas and a fresh outlook.

An Ni finds herself working alongside police captain He Lu Yuan. Those who do not know He Lu Yuan well find him to be cold, ruthless, and abrasive. The duo soon find themselves on the tail of complex, novel cybercrime offenders. Many of these involve international gangs. The maverick prosecutor and the police captain must pool all their wits and resources in a bid to bring offenders to justice, and soon discover that a mysterious mastermind nicknamed “Old A” may be pulling the strings behind the scenes.

legal educational drama

This drama contains elements of 80% education 20% story and character development 0.0005% romance.
not an idol drama and look like only targeting domestic people.

In short..

this drama is...

Not for us

but I'm still giving it a 9 because it seems to work very well in cina. Anni even breaking the record for the highest women's vinklage in 2 years

the acting is very good. the theme of the story is also good. And decent editor...

but....

the story writer is messed up. too bad. I think maybe because they combined an educational drama with a drama in the sense of a drama to be worth watching but they failed.

The story like floating on the water. the characters are written not too strong either the villain or the main character... fortunately their acting is good but it's not enough if the writer is just like a beginner who just wrote his first work.

Of course. in fact I heard that there are more than 6 writers involved... isn't that too much?
maybe because of this it also gets messy

A misclassified docuseries

First of all, let me give a shout-out to the best thing in the drama: the ending theme. Awesome rendition by a great singer. So I didn't know what they were doing with the opening theme. Even I can sing miles better than that.

For the drama, I would say it's very clearly a docuseries in disguise as a drama. The show tries really hard to put in tidbits about law, explanations of the different roles in law enforcement, and the different methods of fraud. They also emphasized heavily on confessing your guilt for a reduction in sentence. This is a show clearly meant for the masses in China (and realistically Asia in particular) where online fraud is rampant. And so, you might find that it's simply not that interesting, especially with heavy screen time given to the higher ups in the procutorate, where you see them stuck in meetings, watching live broadcasts of police operations and whatnot.

I have talked about several flaws in terms of the script already in the comment section. First of all, the first case of insurance fraud was very sloppily concluded. There are also notable grammatical errors in the dialogue. I also think that the fact that a single case spanned the whole drama was a little too slow for pace. What I'm most disappointed with is how there was a lack of misguidance when it came to unveiling the actual antagonist. The show really could have done with more red herrings. All of which could have been a lot better executed.

That being said, I have to give props to how the production tried to make the show as realistic as possible. I am a software engineer and I have to say they actually provided very decent and layman-enough explanation on how the "malware" was injected. I might disagree with the ease of execution which was implied but on the whole I find the research well done. They also touched on monopoly and anti-competition acts by social media companies, which I found oddly satisfying given the current climate. In fact, Douyin (Tiktok's Chinese origins) and Weibo are currently engaged in a battle regarding that, though it might not be publicized.

I also thought interesting issues were raised about the neutrality of a platform, the intentions of the user, and the necessity of restrictions. The discussion on this is actually not unlike the debate on gun laws, though the web is arguably less potent a weapon. Another interesting topic brought up was about whether Xiao was really as heinous as claimed, given that he only delivered the bait, and his victims willingly got themselves hooked. I have my own conclusion, but I won't touch on it any further. It's, however, a pity that when he spoke about it during the trial, there was no attempt at a rebuttal.

On acting, there's nothing really wrong imo. I do feel that some of the calefares and guest actors need some help, but it's a problem with Chinese productions in general. It's pretty common for shows with part time actors to appear jarring because they don't sound and seem professional. I feel that Dilraba does have an elite air to her naturally, and she is one of the younger female actors who can take up a professional role, but this role isn't as challenging because she is just our point of view. And this being a drama produced by the official agency means that there is no room for creative liberties.

All of the above contributed to my conclusion that this was a misclassified docuseries. I stuck through it to actually voice my opinions on the potential debates but unfortunately I didn't see any deeper analysis from people outside of yours truly.

P.S. Dilraba is gorgeous in this show. Absolutely stunning. It's interesting that a sponsored drama like this brought out her looks more than a romance-themed show.

Serious drama with educational tone

Watch this of course like most of us for Dilireba. Watch this at the point I'm quite bored with romance drama, so yeah this quite refreshing for me.

Sometimes quite admire and jealous with China. Like when they have problem with something, they make drama & people watch & finally get educated or at least aware with the problem or how to handle it in the end. My home country not so much, mostly just about trash soap opera that I myself not even watch. Haha.... But recent years our soap opera getting better, but still not on this level too...

Ok back to our drama. I think when China make this drama, their problem with internet fraud in China is already piling, so they make this drama to educate their people about this problem & how to best solve it, which just trust your country & law to handle the criminal.

Just like Rampie wrote: 'First off I'd like to say that this is mainly an educational anti-fraud drama. Don't expect action packed drama, sizzling romance, thriller, or any of that sort. If you're here looking for action or romance you will be disappointed. Don't bother watching if you get bored easily at lectures, Reba's character and other characters will try to lecture you in various Chinese laws and saying it out loud many times!' Yeah not much romance or action in this drama. There's limited police action & slight romance that we can enjoys. But mostly they educate us with all the laws.... But for me all this drama not really boring, cause they still alternate with action & daily life of the cast.

And the most important thing this drama in the end not only about anti-fraud drama, but there're something big net that wrap the whole things. & they keep all the net cleverly under the wrap to attract us to watch until the end.

Oh the only minus point this drama has for me: they use Chinese all the way.... I mean they do go abroad to take care the criminal, yet they still use Chinese when speak & all the people in that country know Chinese by heart & quite fluent with it. I know they don't want to offend any country regarding this. But when you go international more naturally to speak with English than with Chinese.

Overall this really good drama to bring us awareness about all the bad thing internet can bring us & about how they do the fraud in this internet era

After 18 episodes, I can no longer continue with it. Bad script and too boring with legal jargon

I am dropping Prosecution Elite after 18 episodes in; the pace is too slow, and too much legal jargon that makes it dull to watch.

Dilraba was not convincing as a lawyer; her makeup was too white, and she came across as weak and less confident.

Her character and onscreen chemistry with Tong Da Wei is okay. I like Tong Da Wei and Dilraba separately. Still, in this drama, their characters do not collide romantically. They wanted to make things more suspenseful by adding a country F; WTF with that name, and it was not cool.

I give it a 5.0 rating and drop it.
