What Ashes of Love failed, LAR (love and Redemption) had succeeded!
What do I mean by that title? Well, to be honest, I knew about this drama, much earlier than 2022 i.e. in 2021, I knew about this drama, however, because fans have been saying this drama is similar to Ashes of Love, is what really puts me off from starting LAR (Love and Redemption), because I saw that as a minus appeal, since I didn't like Ashes of Love, where the Female Lead, Male Lead and Main Pairing is concerned.If I am going to say something here, is that I am glad I picked up this drama, although late, but better late than never. I mean, it's always good to give a drama/story a benefit of the doubt before judging, and also since I felt like watching another Xianxia drama, and I am like "Why not? Since I was impatiently waiting for the episodes for 'The Blue Whisper'". And then when I started watching, you can say, I was hooked, and just want to continue watching it, and I have stayed up endless nights just to finish this!
The Male lead actor name is Cheng Yi is really a talented actor who really can express his emotions (especially those scenes where he expresses pain and his love) very well. He really made me cry in all those scenes, since he have successfully exceeded my expectations so I really love his acting. This is the second drama I saw him in, the first drama I saw him in was 'The Legend of Chusei - Noble Aspirations', he's the second male lead in that one. As the ML, this show has potentially propelled Cheng Yi to celestial popularity levels. His portrayal of the much adored character of Yu Si Feng through his seemingly innate ability to emote convincingly and project poignant scenes of excruciating torment while shedding tonnes of blood and tears has deservedly earned him legions of new fans, and you can bet that I am now a fan lol, so hooray, now I will be paying attention to his other dramas.
The Female lead being Yuan Bing Yan, I have never seen her act before, but as Xuan Ji (FL) she really played out her character well. She did played her character well, and while for a period of time I really didn't like her, for her lack of trust in Si Feng, and not believe the good in him, it really annoyed me, because given the situation was reverse, Si Feng will believe in the good in Xuan Ji. I also think this is the difference in their love i.e. Si Feng loves Xuan Ji (at the beginning) and is willing to give up everything/sacrifice his life for her, but Xuan Ji can be easily manipulated by 'what she sees' and not believe in the good in Si Feng, and this is why I think that even when she regain her six senses, she can't break the loveless curse placed on Si Feng. It is only when she lost Si Feng i.e. Si Feng left her is when she started to see how important Si Feng is to her, and how wrong she was to not trust in him etc, so that made her into a better character, i.e. character development, and her love for Si Feng had grown to the same level as Si Feng has for her. This is also why I think she was able to break the loveless curse. Honestly, I am so glad Si Feng didn't get back with her right away, because it allowed me to see how much Xuanji puts in to earn back Si Feng's love. Even when Si Feng had another reason why he kept his distance, but it's because of this, I get to see Xuanji putting in for this relationship, and while I still think that Xuanji didn't suffer as much as Si Feng when it comes to this relationship, but she really did redeemed herself for me, and earned back Si Feng's love and this relationship. I am just happy they are finally together again.
In terms of story itself is a powerful one, and the main pair have a powerful love/chemistry with each other. In 10 lives, 10 world's (the present time is their 10th life), and in every life(when the past is revealed) you can see how much the ML loves the female lead. I love their love and chemistry on my end. While people like to compare this to Ashes of Love, and while I can see those similarities BUT the FL in this one was so so so much better than Jin Mi (Ashes of Love), and the main pairing is actually true love to me, one that comes natural, and not forced, the way Ashes of Love is. I guess what AOL main pair FAILED to bring out for me in terms of making me like the 'pairing' and 'individual characters', this one (Love and Redemption) succeeded and have far surpasses Ashes of Love, in terms of characters on it's own and the pairing. The FL(Xuan Ji) is strong, and actually got strong in her own way (that development), and the pairing in this one (Love and Redemption) is much more genuine/natural touching(in a loveable way) when compared to the other fail one (AOL/Ashes of Love).
There's also quite a few interesting characters I really love, i.e. Teng She, Wu Zhi Qi, Liu Yi Huan etc, just to name a few that is not the male and female lead that are loveable too. So it's an enjoyable drama to me. I even love Luo Huo Ji Du, he's not evil to me, and I sympathise with his past and what happened to him. The one that is truly evil (irony) is.. PLOT TWIST Bai Ling Di Jun. Although I won't say evil as in evil, but he views all demons are evil, so I don't like him, although in the end, he got his retribution and he understood and learn he was wrong so that was satisfying, but throughout the drama, when I saw his actions, it really makes me punch him when he said he's doing this to protect the three realms when his actions contradicts it. But this really all stems from how he worries too much/have those insecurities, because he doesn't trust in demons... He's not an evil character that wants to destroy the 3 realms, I guess that's why it's conflicting to label him in the evil character list, I guess you can say he's more of a 'grey' character. But I don't like him, but to be honest, I really tried to like him and not want to hate him, but his actions some times really contradicts his "I am doing this to protect the three realms". And another plot twist, we finally have a wise and great Heavenly Emperor (Tian Di)!!! . He's a great character, and a wise ruler hahaha.
But yeah, like all Xianxia genres, there will be those people around to cause these misunderstandings for the main pair, so this is why the ending was happy and very satisfying as the good were paid for the good they did and the evil received retribution. While 59 episodes may seem long for some, it is definitely worth your time. In fact, you might even think that 59 episodes is far from enough, I actually felt that by the time I am nearing ep 59, I was like "Oh no... the last episode, I don't want it to end".

The last time I gave a drama 10/10 was TMOPB. I wanted to give Ancient Love Poetry 10/10 too since I love that drama very much, but the ending wasn't satisfying to me, so I have to say in terms of fully satisfying ending, Love and Redemption (LAR) tops Ancient Love Poetry even when I love both of the story and romance, and characters very much!

Truly my genre and story
I'm a big fan of xianxia world and watched lot of the drama in this genre. Couldn't find something breathtaking after Love and Destiny (my top 1), but then started Love and Redemption and yes, it was it!I saw the teasers last year, but wasn't so impressed, it seemed like fluffy story with pretty leads. But I was absolutely wrong. There are drama, pain, emotions, love, and of course redemption. This drama is very satisfying regarding the plot development and side characters. Wu Zhi Qi is my favourite. I would watch new drama about him and purple fox.
As I'm fan of Xianxia I also should compliment CGI effects - it's getting better and better every year. Graphics in Love and Red. is on top.
I would rate it 9 to be honest, but Sifeng deserved 10 for sure...

Amazing love story.. watch it and you will not regret it
It is love story between heavenly god of war and the vermilion bird.Before 1000 years ago Demon God of war befriend with the white emperor. He the most powerful Demon god of war, when the battle between Demon and Heaven start, it said that God Of War tricked the Demon God Of War.
Oh yea.. our female lead is the God Of War. This is new for me, because i have seen that normally God Of War was represent as a man. But in the series, it represent as a female. She was strong, powerful, she kill and demolish most of the demon tribe. During her sadness or when she was down, she always walk in the lotus pond and talk to the Vermilion bird. One day she was sent to kill the Demon king. After the God Of War kill Demon King, it said that God Of Heart start to have an evil heart. She start to disobey heaven so the heaven punish her into 10 tribulations.
The vermilion bird willing protect her from the heaven punishment and accompany her to go thru 10 tribulation. He willing to use his life to protect and relieve her hatred to make up with heaven. For the past 9 life, the God Of War did not pass her trial because either she kill or she kill herself. She unable to relieve her hatred.. till the last life time. This time it change everything..
On the 10 lifetime, she is born as daughter of Shao Yang sect. Her name is Xuan Ji, she has no 6 senses
She was lazy, clueless, does not know pain, unable to taste, unable to see color, does not know how to different shape shy/not shy as she thought everything were equally same. Boy and Girl are same. She unable to show her true feeling.
Meanwhile the vermilion bird is born as Si Feng. He is smart, handsome, and highly skilled in martial. He is the next leader of his sect but sadly his sect does not allow him to fall in love, he must cover his face and not allow to interact with other people.
The fate bring them to meet up again when 5 sect gathering, she meet Si Feng and both of start the journey together in the short period during the 5 sect gathering.
SiFeng heart starts to fall in love with Xuan Ji even though at that time Xuan Ji still does not have all the senses.
He break his sect rule by losing his mask and in love with someone. He was punished hard by the Chief Sect but that punishment does not stop him from loving Xuan Ji. He willing to go the heaviest punishment in his sect the 13floor and wearing the Lovers Curse Mask due to some miss-understand.
Si Feng understand that Xuan Ji is different that other people yet he patiently help her in many way even it takes his own life to gather her all senses back. There is a big secret why She unable to show her true heart to someone that she love. it is because her heart was made from glass. There is another big secret on her true form that you will not expected.
Beside that the male lead sacrifices toward the female lead are so depth and make heartaches. He loves her so much that he willing to die 9 times in past and even in this times only for her, he willing to teach her slowly how to love someone and willing to do everything the best only for her. There is another big secret of SiFeng true identity that it will make your heart melt and touched.
It is a wonderful love story that I ever watch and I would like to recommend it.

Too much misunderstanding
I don't know why this drama was so much over hyped. People are saying its as good as ashes of love and what not but i personally felt it was nowhere near ashes of love. Male sacrificing himself all the time and female all the time acting as a fool. Nothing good about it. I had to drop it so many times to finish watching it. The female leads character got on my nerves all the time like at least she should have common sense, yeah we know she doesn't have five senses but still she lost her common sense too or what. The part of changing gender was way more weird. The part of destroying the world was way more weirder. Fairly good drama with good looking casts!
With the high ratings seen on MDL, I had a very high expectation of the show. In fact, it is good, but not super good.In the starting, it gave me a very strong "Ashes of Love" vibes but the production wasn't as good as that, acting wise I think Ashes of Love's casts are better. BUT! I personally think Love and Redemption has a better 60-episode story, which although it was long but it wasn't boring at all! I thought it would be in the "immortal world" settings but turns out to be the "mortal" world settings but having "immortal world" as the main lead's past. It was sweet in the first half and sad in the second half of the drama. It gave me a lot of anger because the male lead is suffering so much for all the misunderstanding, distrust and judgement from his loved ones. To the extent, I don't even think all his loved ones deserve a good ending, like they should have get some karma for putting the male lead into such situation... but well, I guess love wins ?
Overall it was quite good, as long as you don't compare it with other Xianxia dramas, it is fairly good as a standalone piece and it's worth watching! Oh, especially if you enjoy watching good looking casts, this drama almost all of them (even the villians) are as good looking as the main leads which is quite eye-pleasing!

Almost flawless drama
I reckon the vibe of this drama was so high even a year before it aired because the story and the casting, following the success of 3 lives 3 world and Ashes of Love. But I still wait until it finished aired to watch therefore I can give a clear review of the whole pace and production. This drama indeed had been highly anticipated for all fantasy wuxia romance drama, and it really give all the best that fans can wish for.Story: The story is very smooth and flowing like almost no plot hole. It is very enjoyable even though we have to watching through 59 episodes, pretty long drama since most recent dramas already cut off their episodes for maximum 50 episodes. Although like typical Chinese drama, it had some dragging episodes, but the visual has paid the price. The story's main point is human feelings, specially love and hatred, which can build or ruin everything in the universe. The other point is ambition and judgement, which always be used to determine right or wrong. What I like about the story is that this is not merely simple love story, but told us a deeper meaning of relationship's bond.
Acting: Although I haven't watch other of his drama, I already give Cheng Yi a credit as a promising actor since he acted in Noble Aspiration. Even back then he only acted in little role, but he successfully brought the emotions of the character he played. And he prove it in this drama as main character. Si Feng has emotional and deep personality, and Cheng Yi brought that emotions with his eyes and face expressions which can touch audiences heart.
At first I only thought that Crystal Yuan only can bring out cute and feminine character, since many of her drama characters are related to princess personality. But when she transformed to female god of war, I can see her acting is developing to more complex character's personality.
Other worth mention acting are the villain, either the most evil one or the villain which had psychological issues. They all successfully make audience either hate or pity them.
Music: This drama didn't use many traditional music as other wuxia drama. However the fusion of modern songs also make the love story feel sweeter and touching. This drama OST are a must-have in my playlist.
Rewatch value: This is one of the drama that I will rewatch in some episodes, especially the scenes between the two main characters. The beautiful chemistry between them is too good to be missed.
Overall: Like I write in headline, this drama is one of almost flawless drama, despite of some unimportant and draggy scenes. Worth to watch!!!

I can not believe how good; Crystal Yuan has become.
Her new and improved acting skills are lights away from her days in Ever Night and Listening Snow Tower.
For me, this is her best acting performance yet. She always had difficulty conveying her characters’ emotions. However finally, in this Xianxia drama, she did a damn good job... Ironically, her character is lacking her 6 senses.
As for Cheng Yi, He looks even better now than in his younger years in Noble Aspiration.
The years just didn’t affect him at all.
What the hell is his secret?
The production crew could not have selected a better actor than him for the male lead role of Si Feng.
His whole performance was pure perfection.

The BEST XianXia Drama of 2020!!!
I started Love and Redemption just because I like the XianXia Themes, so I've any big expectations . Although I noticed Crystal Yuan in Listening Snow Tower and Cheng Yi in Legend of Chusen, they are not my favorite ones.But after watching the first few episodes of Love and Redemption, I have a bit interesting in their chemistry. Because both of them so cute of acting as teenagers. This drama show the character development for each characters and all of them portray this very well.
Also the storyline is really interesting. Although I really hate the spoilers, I keep searching about Love and Redemption in every sites. All the actors, fight scenes, the CGI effects, the costumes and the OST songs fit perfectly.
Beside the hidden story plots, Si Feng's eternal love for Xuan Ji is really heart warming. Moreover, the bromance between the handsome squad (Si Feng, Wu Jiqi, Liu Yi Huan, Min Yan, Ruo Yu) & (Teng She, Qing Long) is really entertaining. And beside the main characters, Teng She is my favorite ones. His appearance can light up my mood.
As for me, the best thing about this drama is the Fight Scenes. The CGI effects are perfect and their movements really cool.
After all, Cheng Yi and Crystal Yuan becomes my favorite actors. I really wish I could give over 10 stars for Love and Redemption.

HANDS DOWN TO THE GREATEST XIANXIA OF 2020 ?
To start off, I even made an account just to make a review for this drama.With all the unfortunate events happening this year, I can say that this drama is the HIGHLIGHT of my year. Never have I been so invested in a drama until I came across Love and Redemption. Was it perfect? Of course not. Was it full of plot holes? There were some, especially with how the villains got their endings. They were anti climatic and far from my satisfaction (that’s why I rated it 9/10 for the story) Anyway, onto the bright side. One factor why I absolutely love this was, of course, THIS IS DEFINITELY MY CUP OF TEA. And by that I mean, I’m a sucker for STAR CROSSED LOVERS stories ?, to add, ENEMIES TO LOVERS BEING REINCARNATED FOR THE 10th TIME! IM SUPER SOLD!
The plot itself was what made me intrigued with this at the first place. But that wasn’t enough to make me stay; it should be consistent considering 59 episodes were not easy to watch. Fair enough, there wasn’t even a filler episode. Every episode was a ride, some were light like going on a steady road trip with fluffiness and heart eyes but most were like adrenaline filled roller coaster of emotions that almost gave me a heart attack. This is most certainly not for the weak heart.
Moving on to the actors, big props to the lead couple Chengyi and Bingyuan for carrying the whole show like a pro! LaR wouldn’t be the same without them. Their chemistry is out of this world l can’t explain it. CGI is decent, far way better than other fantasy cdramas. OST was sick that I can’t just choose one!
And one thing that really struck me deeply was when Sifeng as Xixuan said “I will go with you, i will love and redeem you with my life, resolve your hostility and make up for the fault of the heaven to you” Against all odds style. My hopelessly romatic phoenix ???
Xuanji symbolises the ‘Love’ as on her 10th lifetime she was incapable of feeling any emotions yet she surpassed every struggle to slowly feel it, and yes, Yu Sifeng, was her ONLY ‘Redemption’ all throughout their bittersweet lifetimes. What a beautiful love story ❤️❤️❤️
Ps. Eternal Love: Ten miles of peach blossoms (2017), Ashes of love (2018), The Untamed (2019) may have set the standards so high for being the God tier Xianxia dramas yet Im afraid Love and Redemption surpassed them swiftly ?

An absolutely epic love story
In the real world, if a Si Feng existed, the bar for romance would be set unattainably high. The loyalty, staying power and crazy patience of this character is second to none. At times he made his own problems even worst, but this is fantasy!This 59-episode series features impossible choices, secrets, anger, betrayal, resentment, grudges, hate, guilt, hypocricy, racism, battles and one of the most manipulative characters I've watched; but it also provides laughs, loyalty, kinship, friendship, trust, selflessness, devotion and, of course, love.
There were a very few times when I felt certain aspects of the story were a little laboured. Some characters also had the most frustrating habit of constantly ignoring advice (always messing things up, yet never learning), being overly judgmental and not listening to anyone!
But isn't a good story one which makes you shout at the screen?! ?
Some of the evil characters were portrayed a little pantomime-like (think wicked laughs... "mwa-ha-ha"); however, the casting of actors and acting though, really were spot on.
The accompanying music was mostly good, but sometimes I found the electric guitar stuff a little intrusive and not quite appropriate.
Cheng Yi and Crystal Yuan were wonderful to watch. I loved that she didn't mumble, whisper or talk like a 5-year old ~ which too many actresses often do (perhaps they're directed to, but I loath that).
The way he looks at her at times is breathtaking. He didn't overplay the role at all and for such a powerful character, the gentleness he portrayed, even when being cold and detached, was so appealing. A joy to watch. The drama is stuffed full of great characters (Lord Flying Snake being a favourite).
I will definitely watch this again one day and it's been added to my list of favourite dramas.

FL and ML always together in every episode!!!!
Cdrama that are different from my expectation..first episode already catch my attention and would not want to miss every episode..the only drama that i have not skip..watch every episode without fast forward even for the third time..I HAVE WATCH THIS DRAMA FOR THE THIRD TIME!!!..and still think it’s not enough..i still can’t move on..really need so bad the second season..and a bit furious because the production cut the episode to 59 only..why not just continue with 77 episode..The FL character are strong but ML love even stronger that make me watch this drama without feel bored even after third time watching it..The soundtrack add spices more to FL and ML love story..i love how production uses modern music..really different from my expectation..The soundtrack already added as favourite in my spotify account..WORTH LISTENING!!!
Overall..The best drama in my life..Thanks to Ashes of Love, i found Love and Redemption..
Thanks to Love and Redemption, i able to know Crystal yuan and Cheng yi..I definitely support their future drama or movie even they are not couple..but i like crystal yuan more..heeeeee
