On the one hand, it's a breath of fresh air - instead of the usual violence, struggle and rejection, the protagonist finds love, strength and companionship in coming out. It's a side of the story that's not often covered in movies that instead chose to dramatize the trauma of being gay. The movie's depictions of LGBTQ life is refreshing, depicting the experience of having gay friends and the struggle of being closeted and normalizing the existence of closeted LGBT people.
But the main plot is kind of silly, the acting feels stilted and the camerawork is amateur.
Still, I would recommend watching it once just for the refreshing take on the subject matter.

An ok movie with some interesting representation
This is the story about the bubbly girl who met her cold female lead and fell in love... once she did that she found out a bunch of stuff yet managed to stay bubbly throughout.Ms. Bubbly has great energy, she is honest and kind and is allowed to make mistakes without coming off as childish. Ms Cold is cool, and while I do not really get her choices she has this smart coolness around her that I highly appreciate. Together these two have great chemistry and a whole lot of good lines.
The people around ms bubbly are lovely too, she has a really fun to watch easy to fall in love with dad, a fake boyfriend who is just the sweetest mist honest and I dare say enlightened guy out there.
This movie is a dialog driven movie, there are a lot of good lines in here, making it almost feel like an educational. But there is also something that feels a bit underdeveloped, meehish to it. As this is a slice of life there is not a lot to keep you on your toes, as the few turns of events are not very eventful and most of the potential drama passes by almost unnoticed.
So basically it is a movie with a nice take on the subject of love, life and the choices society (and biology at the time) force people to make.
I am however not sure any of the people in this actually love their lives as I kept wondering who was going to die...

A More Than Capable Story, Lacking in Bite
From the onset of this movie, I was struck by how very 2000s it was. The visuals. The wardrobe. The music. The comparatively muted tone. What I did not expect from a 2000s lesbian film though was the sexual content - especially towards the end. Not that it's a bad thing or that it was poorly done - just a bit surprising. The story also took me by surprise in some ways. I loved the communication between the leads. I loved how natural the ensemble of LGBT+ characters are. And how each of these instances and characters bring something new to the perspective the story is telling - without ever once feeling preachy. Whether it be about stereotypes, family, acceptance, coming out, loneliness, or even questioning identities. It seems like a lot to touch on that would subtract from the story - but it really doesn't. Because it's told in a simple organic way that comes out of the plots themselves. But most of all, I loved how the different plots interweaved together. I didn't particularly like the female leads (didn't particularly hate them either) for a while, but the growth and development that both of them got as a result of the interweaved plot lines were really well done.
However, there were a few moments that I don't think should have been as muted they were. I deserved to feel a little bit more emotion. And that complaint exists because of a few factors: music choice (or lack there of), lack of consistent chemistry (not just romantically, but the ability for the characters to bounce off of each other on the screen), and the ease at which certain topics were moved on from in the script.

Average movie tbh
So in early 2000s japanese cinematography was a bit mediocre. Considering this movie came in 2006, I can understand why the movie direction seemed amateurish.Talking about the story, it was straightforward. Nothing too much twist and turns which is good. I don't think I could've appreciated any complex lgbtq+ movie with this level of direction and acting. The acting is a bit beginner type. It felt like the main actresses weren't completely into the character.
Overall, it was an average movie with average storyline.
