I JUST WANNA WATCH ONE LEE JONG SUK DRAMA WHERE I DON'T SHED AT LEAST ONE TEAR. PLEASE.
The title. Literally. While You Were Sleeping did it to me. Now W did it. Although there were tears of sadness, there were also tears of happiness. This drama reminded me also that I can't remember the last time I shed a tear of happiness. In the last episode when the FL wakes up in the hospital bed with the ML behind her... when she touches his face... the happy tears flowed. Both tears of sadness and happiness flowed.I don't know why a stand-out moment that I remember from this drama is the fact that when the ML was injured after killing his father-figure and was driving away—the FL switched into the driver's seat because the dude was literally bleeding out, and when she moved to take him out of the driver's seat, she cradled his head, The head cradle killed me.

I can't give a 10 though, for 2 reasons:
1. The first show, for me, with Lee Jong Suk. At the beginning, I simply thought that I didn't like his acting choices most of the times. However, I saw him in other shows after this one and he grew up on me a lot, as an actor, therefore I guess that the problem lies in the way he's been directed in certain scenes. The same goes for Han Hyo Joo.
2. While absolutely captivating in the beginning, the plot gets quite convoluted towards the final episodes, and not always organically. It's like writers felt the need to make it pointlessly complicated.
Even so, I recommend it because it's something really uncommon to watch.

Esas erkeğin giyimi AŞIRI kıro ya ölüyodum. Kot gömlek, altına koy pantolon. Saks mavisi takım elbise??? İĞRENÇ.
Kızın kişiliği de çok hoşuma gitmedi. Yine o telaşlı ottoke ottokeee diye gezen doktor kız tiplemesi. Bıktım şunu görmekten ya.
Erkeğin oyunculuğu, gülümsemesi falan çoook yapmacıktı. Hiç havalı değildi. Kişiliği ilgimi çekmedi, napiyim.
Hikaye güzel olabilir ama benim ilgimi çekmedi. Erkek daha ilginç bi karakter olsaydı izleyebilirdim. Ama sevmedim. Bazı kişiler çok sevebilir. Onlar izlesin.

Don’t expect romantic romance here
Took me a while to find the time and initiative to watch this series. I had it saved to watch because of Lee Jong Suk. I am more of a historical period fanatic and to watch other genre, I would have to have a good catalyst (e.g. favorite actress, cute actor, etc).So….on we go.
The plot is interesting enough for me so I invested time to watch it. Jong Suk didn’t disappoint with his charming and beautiful face. He can act too so it’s a plus.
Romance there was an attempt for it but seemed like the Director drastically failed to satisfy the audience. It could have evolved better that could have given this series a great push up.

I was extremely excited to see this drama because the story itself caught my attention for being so creative. Who wouldn't want to go from their regular normal life and instead jump into the world of their favorite comic book, web toon or drama. Where do I sign up? Of course, if Lee Jong Suk is one of the MCs even better. First, I'd like to say their animation/webtoon team did an incredible job. As you watch the show you will really fall in love with the flawless drawings. During the special of this drama, you'll get to see how challenging it was to draw and film the transitions between both worlds. Though there were several themes to keep viewers interested. I wish there had been more character development. I don't think the support roles really had a purpose. At times, I feel they were all on standby or just chess pieces when a hole needed to be plugged in the narrative.
I do appreciate that the sparks between Kang Cheoul and Yeon Joo begun right of the first few episodes. It is so common in dramas to have viewers anxiously wait for the main leads to either kiss or just simply hold hands. This was a sweet romance that offered a break from the chaos and more tensed/life threatening scenes.
There were some parts that I personally found unnecessary. For instance, why is the father all of a sudden under the villain/murderer's control? I understand the villain took his face but do not comprehend the reason the father is just doing everything he is told. Afterwards, when Yeon Joo's father ends up in the manga world. He is once again not himself and turns into a murderer instead. Isn't there already enough villains in the drama? Also, towards the last few episodes they bring Kang Cheoul's bodyguard and friend back. But, at one point I asked myself. How long is he going to be in the car for before he reaches a destination where he can help out? He went from a state of being drugged and needing urgent care to driving aimlessly in a car and picking up phone calls. While his friend was dying and Oh Sung Moo is off murdering someone again on the tablet. These are just minor scenes so it doesn't impact the overall plot really. But, at one point I just wanted Kang Cheoul to stop dying. Again, I think the thought behind the plot was creative. But, I felt some parts did not have substance or were dragged on for too long.
Regardless, I am glad I watched this drama and do recommend you give it a try!

Too repetitive
I had to rate this drama lower once I finished it. It started out SO strong, but there was so much repetition that it was frustrating. This show could have been so much tighter if there were fewer jumps and fewer episodes. It got to the point that I was, "Here we go again." It also would have been better if the coloring in the comic world would have been different somehow. It was really hard to track which world they were in. I felt like the ending of the show (the last few episodes) just kept wandering, because they didn't know how to end it. By the time it did end, I didn't much care, I was just glad it was over. Highlights of the show? The two of them together at the beginning when they were getting to know one another. Lee Jong Suk was even more emotionless than he usually is.Esta resenha foi útil para você?

Storyline Issues
Started on 9/18/2020, finished on 9/25/2020. After pondering about this show for almost a year, this review is my verdict.Overall: 8.5/10
The Story: 6.5 out of 10.
The premise was charming, but the execution was not. (((((Slight spoiler: I disliked the memory loss plot, as it was pointless and made simply for a longer story. It is also cheezy and cliché in my opinion.))))) No spoiler version: the ending was not as quick-paced and riveting as the first half. The plot was dragging extremely. The writer conveniently writes twists so that the plot moves smoothly, but it is not done well. It is messy and illogical. It felt like the writer could not think of anything else, something that would tie seamlessly into the beginning information.
The Acting/Cast: 8.5 out of 10.
Although I was sort of annoyed with the female lead’s (Han Hyo Joo’s) acting, it is bearable. The male lead’s (Lee Jong Suk’s) acting was just okay as well. I liked the cast of the male and female actors. They had great romance and chemistry. The acting that I enjoyed was of the female lead’s dad (Kim Eui Sang). His acting was phenomenal and made up for the mediocre acting. I also enjoyed the bodygaurd (Lee Tae Hwan) and the acting of the female lead’s brother (Lee Si Eon).
The Music: 9.5 out of 10.
Although the music is not revolutionary, hearing the music gives me nostalgia and memories of this show. I loved the main theme of the show, and the music was placed well with the show.
The Rewatch Value: 10 out of 10.
This Rewatch Value plays a big factor in the rating of this show. Although the story was not that great, the suspense and emotions are overwhelming. This show can be watched multiple times, unlike other shows. At the moment, you will love this show immensely. This show is very charming.
Conclusion:
W is a show with a questionable plot and writing, but amazing emotions and writing. It’s an essential show to watch, just for the feels. If the writing and acting were better, this show could easily be a 10 or 9 out of 10 (an 8.8 or 8.7 as of MDL ratings). The writing/plot is a let-down.
