Enjoyable and Light
A lot of drama bite off more than they can chew when tackling plots and after binge watching show after show that couldn't neatly tie their story lines together, Goblin was a happy surprise. Goblin focuses one two couples and their epic stories of growth, tragedy, and just daily life. The plot itself is rather simple and thin, but still enjoyable. The show is full of cute and funny scenes that will keep you watching. Keep in mind, the show feels more like a slice of life rather than a supernatural adventure, so if you're out for some magical battles, Goblin isn't the show to watch. An issue that prevented me from fully immersing myself in the story was the main protagonists' love story. There is no real build up to help you understand why Eun Tak and Kim Shin fall in love. They both need something from on another, whether it's to end an immortal life or just have the support of someone, but it's not enough to help solidify why they eventually fall in love. There's something lacking in their budding romance leaving it awkward and strange until you simply decide to accept it for what it is and keep watching.
Overall, having simple story lines to follow allowed Goblin's pacing to breath leaving a ton of space for a lot of the funny moments I mentioned earlier. And, like many other dramas, the flashbacks are overused. Couple of ticks on the fast forward button and you've got a light and enjoyable drama.

Funny moments but ultimately falls flat
I started this show with the intention of having it on in the background while I worked or browsed on my phone, but the initial scenes scenes were beautiful and caught my eye. I stuck it out and was pleasantly surprised by the dad jokes and silly banter between the characters. It felt like a show that wouldn’t take itself too seriously. The first half of the show had a nice pace to it—things progressed and you learned a little more about character quirks, but the drama didn’t ever fully go in depth with anything. You’ll only receive a surface level understanding about why people are the way they are and you’ll never fully grasp this godly world everyone comes from. Those two points didn’t bother me much until the latter half of the show. Suddenly the show is extra serious with random wrenches and plot lines added to help fill time. The plot was too thin to carry an hour long drama. It was as if the writers forgot they had 16 episodes to fill. The story just dragged on and on, filled with extra long drawn out scenes of nothing. At some point I hit the fast forward button five or six times and the characters were in the SAME position.
It was a bummer to see the show just tank so quickly. If I ever needed a pick me up, rewatching the first few episodes would make me laugh. Hokey silliness carried through would’ve helped lift the show.
