At the time of watching, Cruel City was ranked #1 on MDL and I can see why. Cruel City is a visually stunning drama with a captivating plot that keeps you on your toes from the very first episode to the very end where you get to experience a world where the line between good and bad can start to become blurry. The cast did a great job, notably Jung Kyung Ho, whom I’m seeing for the first time because of this drama, in his mesmerizing portrayal as Doctor’s Son/Jung Shi Hyun. The OST was beautiful and fit the drama well as it intensified the viewer’s emotions. I’m glad I was able to experience Jung Shi Hyun’s world and the people in it, and would recommend Cruel City to anyone who loves noir dramas.
Quite honestly, I’ve been putting off watching this drama, having my doubts about it. But boy, am I so happy I finally sat down and gave it a chance. It has a beautifully written plot with comedy, romance and suspense that was executed very well, and teaches us about love and having faith in other people. The cast was a joy to watch as they played characters that each had their own purpose to play in the bigger picture and it was interesting to see the growth of those characters throughout the drama. In addition, the OST is simply beautiful and I still cannot stop listening to Echo. Of course, this drama has its flaws but it has a sincerity that stays with you. I know it is one drama that’ll be in my heart for a long time. “Promise to me that you won’t hate someone enough to ruin your life. Once a person is born in this world, life is not even long enough to love each other.”
