OVERRATED

I was so excited for this to come out when they announced that there’s going to be a series. For someone who loves Jittirain and most especially Theory of Love. I can’t even contain my disappointment for how this turned out.

The review that I’ll be giving is for the series itself and not the novel.

STORY - The story was... inconsistent. Okay, yes it was light and there’s only butterflies in your stomach when you watch the first few episodes but there are a few double standards for this one.

First of all, i don’t like how Green is pushing himself to Tine when Tine clearly said no already. On top of that, it’s bizarre to even think about that Tine’s initial response to that situation is “get a fake boyfriend” like— what even is that? Also, what Green did to Tine is basically the same thing Tine did to Wat, not to mention the stalking, harrasing in bathrooms and even going as far as joining the music club just to make Wat agree to be his fake boyfriend. IT WAS A MESS. Tine and Sarawat’s relationship? A MESS. There was no substance or anything. It was a bromance, not romance.

I’m not gonna go into details about Man’s catfishing incident because that’s pretty much self explanatory. PhukongMil deserves so much better. Unlike other bl series that pays attention to side pairings/couples, this is the only series that confused me the most with regards to this. The series literally paid PhukongMil dust.

ACTING/CAST — I’ll be reviewing Win and Bright only. As a rookie actor, Win Metawin definitely didn’t disappoint. Given that there could be so much improvement, considering this is his first series or acting role, it was pretty much okay to me. He can definitely portray the bubbly and outgoing personality of Tine, I think he would be a promisinga actor in the future.

As for Bright, man I don’t know what happened with this one. This is not his first series, i’m not sure if he’s uncomfortable with the idea that it’s bl or if he just didn’t get enough workshop. I mean, sure he can portray that kinda snob popular guy but other than that, he’s so... lifeless. His facial expressions are always awkward and he really really looks uncomfortable acting in love with a man.

This is why the industry really needs to hire ACTUAL LGBT+ people and not straight men, but oh well.

MUSIC — as someone who doesn’t understand Thai, Scrubb’s songs are definitely AWESOME. I have no words for the OST by Max Jenmana, it was catchy. The story itself is somehow based upon scubb songs so all in all, SCRUBB superior. Kinda like Eraserheads of the Philippines.

REWATCH VALUE - If you asked me if this one on the first few episodes then my answer would be yes, i would love to rewatch it. But like i said, the series lost its spark halfway through the series and it’s a very bad adaptation of the novel. If there’s some clips on twitter or youtube then yes, I would watch bits of it but if it’s the entire series, I don’t think I want to go through all of that awkward acting of Bright and getting confused with the inconsistent story line.
