Hi there
If you're looking for me, you can find me on my k-drama review blog. Here is a tidbit on my introduction to the mystical world of Korean drama and cinema. And it all started with Won Bin's The Man from Nowhere movie; I was pleasantly surprised and fell in love with him hard, still looking for him and wish he would have a comeback movie or drama. He will forever hold a special place in my heart. I loved that movie, the pace, the action, the little girl who's turned into the talented Kim Sae Ron, Won Bin, the script, the directing, just everything about the movie was dynamic and unforgettable.
A few years later, I came across Secret Love Affair on Netflix with the legendary Kim Hee Ae and the uniquely talented Yoo Ah In, and boy, was I pinned. There is something undeniably hooking about watching Yoo Ah In do his thing. I loved that drama. But I was still not hooked, not until the exquisitely shot, directed, acted, and produced Mr. Sunshine in 2018. I started that drama for Lee Byung Hun but fell madly in love with Yoo Yeon Seok for his eye-opening depiction of the tormented Gu Dong Mae /Ishida Sho. It was my proper introduction to Kdramaland, and I haven't looked back since. In my short time watching k-dramas, I have developed a taste for specific genres from medical to historical to crime and even horror. Each genre has gifted me with a drama or two I have endlessly enjoyed.
I've been lucky to have watched great Korean, Japanese, and Chinese dramas. Still, nothing compares to My Mister, one of the very few dramas that have touched me as it has. It is one of the best, if not the best, k-dramas ever made, be it in its writing, directing, or acting of the very gifted Lee Sun Kyun and inspiring IU. It is the kind of drama that catches you unaware at its onset. And before you realize it, you're hooked to this drama that shatters you to the core before slowly and methodically putting you back together again. I have since rewatched My Mister several times, and each time I find myself as awe-struck as when I first watched it. It goes without saying it's one of my highly recommended dramas. Other favorites of mine include but are not limited to:
Stranger 1 and 2 (best crime dramas ever) | Haechi (best historical as far as I am concerned) |
Signal (second-best crime drama) | Kingdoms 1 and 2 |
Fated to Love You | The Grand Prince |
My Mister (best all-time) | The Princess's Man |
The World of the Married (second best) | Mr. Sunshine |
On the Way to the Airport | Mr. Queen |
Secret Love Affair | Stove League |
Hospital Playlist 1 | Secret |
It's Okay Not to Be Okay | My Unfamiliar Family |
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo | Flower of Evil |
