I read parts of the translated novel for Adorable Food Goddess and was surprise to see a drama base on it. I haven't read the novel far enough to know how true the drama is to the novel but from what I watched, I sincerely hope the novel will be more different than the drama. I was hesitate about watching another drama base off of a novel I read because the previous drama I watched that did that nearly drained me of all motivation, However, I read spoilers about the ending beforehand and found out this drama have a happy-ending. I figured, if it's going to end happy, it should be fun since it started off with a comedic flair,

I was clearly wrong because while it started off great, the middle portion of the drama just made the happy ending fake to me. There was a lot of fun moments in the beginning, a lot of time was spend in developing the relationship between the characters. However, towards the middle everything just feels wrong. The story was purposely dragged and it felt like they wanted it to be more dramatic so they killed off everyone. Everyone I thought was important besides the 2 main characters dies. . . like no one was spared, not even the little boy or the villagers. Heck, the 2nd male lead dies. And it was all because of the main characters. So when the ending came and the main characters lived happily ever after, I couldn't help but think how wrong it is. Everyone that was innocent died, but the two troublemakers lived. If they were just honest with each other, they could've avoided a lot of misunderstanding and it wouldn't have caused everyone to die for them. It felt unfair to me. If this drama was marked at a tragedy I wouldn't have been so upset but it's somehow a rom-com?

I don't know if I can finish the novel considering how much tears I shed through this drama. Sigh.

Wild Kitchen does a great job of sharing the unique flavors of the local cuisine, the cultural aspects of the people living there, and the beauty of it all. This show is an unexpected find for me and I'm glad I could understand enough of the Chinese language to watch it as there doesn't seem to be any English subtitles for the show.

The cast plays a huge part on why this show weights so heavily on my likeness scale. I love how, unlike the way a Korean variety show is run, the cast members relationship with each other and their guests feels more real. I love Korean variety shows but sometimes it can be a bit much with the idols being hyped up on every episode. There is none of the crazy screams or flattery when an idol girl / boy group is cast, only simply, "Oh, it's you. Long time no see! Now let's get ready for dinner!" The atmosphere is fun, warm, inviting, genuine and it feels like a family trip.
Wang Han who is one of the founding main member of the show is like a cool older brother. It feels like he can take care of everything. Oddly, I especially like the words of wisdom he shares to the cast and to the guests when they are in doubt.
Jiang Yan join the show around the 5th episode and have been a vital member ever since. She is great at cooking and seems to know how to cook any dish with just a glance at the ingredient. She's warm, caring, gentle, and got all the treats anyone will want for a mother.
Evan Li has been in the show for 11 episodes and it's easy to see how the show has changed him. He went from being scared and lost over how to setup things in the wild to someone who is willing to take risks and make things work.
There are 2 other regular cast member who are both great but one left the show after 7 episodes (Li Xin) and one join for 7 episodes (Eddy Ou) they both played a part in making the show more fun for the viewers. Witty, and a great deal of joy.

The only thing I didn't like was the blatant product placement but it can be funny seeing it sometimes.

I hope there will be a new season, with the same cast members.
