it could have been a masterpiece

... but it's not. though it started out in an excellent manner, it soon became all messy, and the two couples just swinging partners back and forth was totally unrealistic. in the 2nd half of the series i had to fast-forward through a lot of useless and repetitive scenes... also, despite everyone commenting on the "passion" and chemistry, there's hardly any skinship/kissing all along. just a one-time coffee and propose for marriage?? honestly i find most of the plot totally fake.
the characters are inconsistent, you never know why they act one way or the total opposite. first we come across a funny innocent girl, the FL, then she changes to become all gloomy and tearful. her character doesnt really grow, only her clothes mature, in fact she is quite well-dressed for someone supposedly poor.
and again... WHY is everybody an orphan? the ML, the FL, the SML... i cannot grasp the meaning of this trope.
fashion is nice in a weird way, with a 70s vibe, the designer favours black and white mostly.
what's there to rewatch?

farcical end ruins it

excellent drama, everything looks expensive and high quality, the casting (so many handsome actors who also can act!), the cinematography, the kaleidoscopical plot, the beautiful settings... everything BUT the last episode, that seems written by a different person. the mafia war is like a computer game!? tens of people killed, no one wearing a protection vest, the ML's hardly get a scratch though. the ones we thought dead are alive, the secrets are neverending. and after all the blood bath, here come the sugary moments of all the loving couples/families. i guess the ending is somehow justified, still it should've been toned down.
obviously, the director left the door open for a sequel, too many loose ends.
well, nothing is to be taken seriously abt this drama anyway, just enjoy it.

Best thai drama

After getting familiar with thai dramas/lakorns, i mean - all the slap-and-kiss, revenge, hate - love, kidnapping, even rape - i can say this is one of the best in its genre. Acting is great, also the settings, even support cast. Of course, second leads are quite boring and i had to skip those parts. Both ML and FL have great acting skills, and something beyond that - a special charisma. I saw the ML in other dramas too and im a fan, he obviously was born to be on stage. The FL is also pretty and petite, unlike many other former models turned into actresses that tower the men around them. She does a great job balancing between being brave and being feminine, though it's a trend in t-dramas to depict aggressive women. She is never clingy nor chasing the guy, just being herself. The script has a few brilliant parts, and even the clichés are nicely re-done, all in all a very enjoyable drama. Whenever i couldnt find something else to watch, i'd go back to this one, and i'm certainly not the type to watch the same thing more than once! Iconic for sure! <3

excellent, though you can see the ropes

The word for this is HOT... The two ML's are hot together, end of. If you are looking for something more abt this drama, like villains or conflict or anything - there is not much to it. It's just one - or even two! - gay couples that come up with hot stuff, and thats it! We have role-play, innuendo, teasing, flirting, naked bodies - and i mean, ripped bodies!, power struggle - you name it.
Oh and there is also some comedic relief to the sexual tension... I guess the director was afraid to handle the 18+ content in a mature way so he turned to this trick instead.
Rewatch? Why not? Its funny and... wink wink. Sex sells!

chinese lakorn

The actors are excellent, the plot is entertaining, BUT all in all it's so OVER THE TOP that it cannot be seen other than a lakorn... Coincidences are crazy! Two girls look identical, their fate is intertwined, the shy art student becomes a top businesswoman over the night, the cruel CEO is in fact a traumatic soul etc etc. Tropes are never ending and also the filters make faces look so unrealistic! A lot of symbolism, most of it bad taste. Fashion is weird too...
Still watchable, the main leads are nice, extended cast too, cinematography - no flaw, settings are quite expensive.
Worth a watch, dont know abt second one though.

a total joke

Im half through this and really wonder why i'm still watching it... Totally cliche, mediocre acting from the FL - who is also not suitable for the role, being mature-looking and stout while playing an innocent fearful college girl? The plot follows the old trope of the girl paying family debt with her body (!), which is totally crazy for us european viewers... Too many coincidences to be taken seriously - out of the entire China, the FL only bumps into the revengeful ML, his brother-in-law and then his mom?? Seriously?
Another serious short-coming is that the director of the drama seems unable to decide if this is a comedy or a tragedy, most dramatic scenes mingle with some unreasonably funny scenes, like wtf? If u wanna do it, at least do it right!
WHY is there no ORPHAN tag? Too many dramas from all asian countries have these orphan protagonists! And im still to figure WHY? Are parents such a hindrance?
The ML is a total psycho... he raped and abused the FL for 3 yrs, and now we have to believe he secretly loves her and protects her. It's just the housekeeper that loves and cares most for ML, shouldnt they be a better match?
Totally unnatural, fast paced, like adapted from a manga, or Harlequin series or whatever... Watch it with popcorn.

i kept reading reviews saying that this one has got great cinematography, but honestly i've seen many effortlessly better dramas! it's somehow - just somehow - easy on the eyes, but nothing more... the FL is so plain ! i totally got the idea it's a drama abt mediocre people, but still there are so many charming women out there in their 30s or 40s or whatever! what this drama lacks - and lacks for real - it's some vision... there's no vision to it, just some random people fighting middle age crisis and getting depressed over all kind of shit life keeps throwing at them/ at us.
even the new love - the innocent love a 15 yrs old teen can offer - gets trashed in the depressing mixture. the breath of fresh air that should be there - it's hardly there!
the writer behind it might have wanted to approach some deep topics, like imperfect love, emotionally hurt people and people that hurt themselves by making wrong choices etc... still something is missing.
i'd say, any way this drama will go from now on - i'm at ep 8 - it will be totally random, so i'll drop it.

here comes the shining knight

This is really endearing and fluffy... Dont bother abt logic much! Everyone is a young successful professional, even hardships are there just to be challenged etc. Coincidences are TOO MUCH: in the big China, what chances are to bump into the same guy at work place, sleeping place, leisure place... over and over again (im saying it for the second couple as well)??
The young actors are totally eye candy and pleasant watch. Still the FL being so short while the ML is so tall looks cringey af. Why do the ML's have to be the tallest in dramas? Is this really what matters? Also the FL is not the best choice out there. The SFL is all abt exposing legs while pretending not to care. Yeah, we are dumb!
The trope of "fate created during childhood" doesnt appeal much to me... But perhaps some other watchers like it!? For god's sake, my life totally moved on, im NOT looking for a sweetheart from kindergarten! I WAS NOT a hero at 9 yrs, does this mean i'm not loveable??
The ML is hot - but dont get carried away, there is little to zero skinship... It's all abt teasing and flirting.
These being said, its totally relaxing and fluffy. Not dropping it (yet).

another endless chinese drama

I came to watch this just for the ML, who was sooo breath-taking in "Advance Bravely"... He is still OK in this, and i also discovered the excellent FL, but the whole picture sucks! It's sooo long and boring and it takes ages for something to happen. Also a lot of secondary unnecessary actions and characters keep popping up, so i decided to give up after trying my best (with skip button put to hard work).
The director totally ignored the ML's acting skills and sense of humour... He is just walking around looking (average) good.
My time is worth more than watching this slowest-paced drama.

How is this a 10?

Dear watchers, sorry to disappoint, there is NO WAY i would give this a ten - ever. It's certainly NICE all in all, nice faces, nice settings, good conflict, a lot of drama, details on point too... BUT it's really REALLY way too cliché, even actors' faces bring nothing new, they just fall into a pattern of beauty standards! The ML is handsome, but totally undistinguishable from other actors in the drama land... About the plot? The handsome CEO falls for a working-class woman, but things come in-between them... You saw this a million times before, right? Not to mention that FAKE vibe most lakorns give off, when all characters wear super fashionable wrinkle-free clothes and a super white smile and are super talented/successful in their field of work!!
About the GIRL IN DEBT trope? I forgot how many times i came across this... Please, is this a 21st century movie?
So... If you dont set your expectations too high and just wanna enjoy a typical lakorn while your brain takes some rest - this is the one to go for!

a total mess

I can see how the director wanted to make this deep and layered and whatever, but it ended up a total mess! Not to mention that these - many - chinese names can be difficult to remember for us non-asian viewers. I found myself lost not just once either with the action, or with the names, and the PACE is not to blame, since it's QUITE SLOW for an action movie...
The ML is handsome and a fine actor, BUT the plot doesnt favour him. Past and Present ML are hard to tell, since the modern ML wears such 80's outfits! Besides, as said, the action is a total mess, you never know who is gonna die next or who plots what. The few women around - all seem to like our ML, but he acts coy, while all men want to fight the ML!! Besides, the director ABUSES THE FLASHBACK TECHNIQUE, to the point we get TWO MOVIES, one in the open, one in the dark. Tsk tsk! Can you just let us immerse in the action without any interruption?
Sadly i consider dropping this, though i really wanted to enjoy some good action drama!

No "shark" action

I found so many flaws in this, that i dont know where to start... First, it looks very outdated in terms of filming technique and dynamics - or lack of it, it's very slow for a revenge/ action drama. Also, the colours are dark and washed out, be it for the present or past actions. Too much time is assigned for the memories of the ML, like - we got it, let us get to the point already! Very tropey, a lot of of symbolism, but everything thrown into our face, no mystery left to keep us waiting! And, above all, veeeeerry slow pace - 20 long episodes packed with unnecessary dialogues, staring and whatnot BUT action.
Dropped and dont consider giving it a try any time soon.

Nothing to watch here

I'm not bothered by the cliche story, nor by the arrogant ML - the actor is very good in his part - , im bothered by the totally mediocre FL and her inexistent acting skills. There's no chemistry between the leads and there is no way the director can convince me that a rich handsome CEO would fall hard, at first sight, for the boring FL. Maybe it so happened just because the ML happened to see the FL naked? Isnt this bad taste? Are we talking puberty?
Dropped.
