A very contemporary tale from the 1940s
This is my 1st Review so... don't bother. But i decided to write because this movie was even better than i was expecting, It deals not only with family issues and the topic of the wife dealing with the drama of what she did with her life and why she didn't go after the man she loved and having to endure the consequences of having an alcoholic and womanizing husband and finding relief from problems in a new job. But what caught my attention was Otani Joji himself (in parts it's my fault for liking sad stuff for personal reasons), a famous writer that struggles with depression and 'cause of that, turns to be a terrible father and husband but also has his male pride hurt when he discovers that his wife has an ''affair'' and is also called gigolo by her. Like he says ''I've always wanted to die since i was a kid'' but he fails to die and this burden to be alive is what destroys him and everybody around him, he claims to be a monster but he's just a human afterall... and omg Tadanobu Asano is so freakin' hot. This story is so envolving that you almost forget it's a post-war film...
