Only watched it cus of tiktok and honestly major let down
Started out fine and then got really boring. The biggest reasons were:1. CHARACTERS: They were honestly really boring and unlikable with almost no depth. No character has a backstory or any character growth throughout the ENTIRE series. I mean, please, why are they so dry and only fit into their stereotypes? Like, please, none of them have any growth as a character.
2. Plot holes. Why didn't the mafias kill everyone from the start since they could do that, which they tried to do in ep 10 or 11? Why could that mafia kill himself, but when Dabum tried to kill Jungwon, he couldn't? That should be explained. Plus, many others that have already been written by other reviewers.
3. STORY: The biggest thing that annoyed me was that storyline. Why did everyone feel so stupid? Somi was never suspected even though she was involved in the voting of many civilians. They kept listening and falling for every stupid-ass manipulation trick from Somi and Kyungjun, even though they were super suspicious. They never questioned how they fell asleep on time, was it the sound or just drugging, etc. They never questioned how the game got them to kill themselves after getting selected, possession, or drug. NOO but they still believed this was set in reality, like please, they never questioned anything. They felt so flat and fake, like not actual people. After finding out the entire world was basically paused, they never actually investigated that. They just saw it and went "wow bizarre" and moved on. Like, tf, and you still believe this is reality? "Oh No A gHOSt Is TOTallY unBELivAble." Also, the ghost plotline was freaking boring. What was even the point? It led to absolutely nothing.
4. STORYLINE/ENDING: Started out fun, got draggy, with a lack of good characters and with a predictable plot, it was basically a shitshow. The ending was the worst thing for me. PLLSSSS, you do this living in another weird world and then end it with the most basic explanation, the VR world "everything is fake in your head," like please, it's been done a million times, it's so predictable and boring. Also, why remove any stakes the series had? Now its rewatch value plummeted to the ground cuz why rewatch knowing everyone still lives. The parents made no sense, like oh we´ll punish all of you with an endless game of mafia even though we removed all your memories of Seun, so how are you even supposed to make the bullies regret their actions? Like, you have the option for any hallucination, making them live through what she did or just a horror game, but no, they chose mafia. Ok, well, weird. Plus, only like 8 people actually bullied her, the others just didn't help or were gossiping about her, BUT still everyone gets the same punishment, even the ones who were friends with her. Also, the parents' reasoning really annoyed me. Like, hello, aren't you her parents? WHY DIDN'T YOU HELP HER THEN? Were you absent or didn't care, literally, are the parents 50 or 5, who knows. Lastly, Yoon Seo going "put me back in the game only me," I was like hello huh, let the bullies go free why, and why even go back in Seun is dead y'all wrap it up. Sidenote is mass kidnapping a class into your rich VR build room easy or was the entire class made up of orphans with no other acquaintances.

Ive read the webtoon so i may compare the two
ive just finished it,and its probably one of the nicest kdramas from this year in my opinion. This will be as short review since im writing this in the middle of the night. To start the story is very enjoyable and at the same time kinda predicable. But not predicable in the boring way just in the way where you kind of understand what the director is trying to do with the story line. It is set in a high school with the usual bullying and hierarchies. It then build from there to more than just a high school drama, which i find to be very interesting. But at the same time the kdrama doesn't get to messy with its plat and still centers around the same characters and still keeps the high school setting relevant, as it should be to create realism.
now the characters were one of my favorite things about this drama. I really loved park jihoon as shieun, because he really in bodies the character. As shieun also known as grey in the webtoon is very emotionless and study obsessed, and jihoon really sells this. I alos just love the friendship between soohon and shieun, it was so sweet and nice, and they really tried to protect each other. As for oh beom, yeah i really hated him, and therefor ill give credit to the writers because they really made him despicable. But as for this sort of internal struggle with him not belonging anywhere, and therefor feeling lonely. I really liked it and it gave depth since he was a part of the mains friendship so his change was unexpected. I do feel like they could have done it better if they had provide us more of his feelings instead of his actions, what i mean is through out the series i could understand his struggles but mostly just because of his actions. I feel like giving watchers more moments where he just thinks or has a struggle of his own which does not involve harming the characters could have provided even more depth and soul to him, and so it would make the ending hit harder. Lastly as for Young yi, while she didn't have much impact on the story as a whole, i really liked her character. She was naturally social and seemed to bring a lot of joy to shieun and soohon, and therefor i really liked and enjoyed her scenes in the drama. Btw the acting in this was all good, so no need to worry for that if you're wondering.
As for the music, i cant say much there, dont really remember anything special. But mostly just used to build suspense before fights.
NOW FINALLY FOR WHAT IVE WANTED TO WRITE, DISCLAIMER; THIS WILL BE SOMETHING I NOTICED ABOUT THE SERIES AND THE WEBTOON, SO THEREFORE IF YOU'RE AFRAID OF SPOILERS JUST DONT READ THIS PART, BUT IF YOU'VE SEEN THE DRAMA, READ THIS PART YO MAY FIND MY OBSERVATIONS INTERESTING.
so while watching i was just unconsciously comparing the drama and the webtoon. In the beginning i was just complaining on how the webton and drama dont reallly fit at all, the ony thing thats slightly the same is shieuns way of fighting. Like for example soohon wasnt a character in the webtoon, and plus shieun seemed "weaker " than from the webton, as well as a little more open to having friends. Plus the stories in of it self just dont fit each other. But that when, when i realized at the end what the drama was doing. The kdrama is set before the events of the webtoon, its set in shieuns/greys past, which i kinda remember form the webtoon. I realized that the kdrama was a more in depth versions of his past, which just hit me like WOW cuz i was kinda disappointed at the beginning as a avid reader. So this means that the new school is the same school as the webtoon, which makes sense if youve read the webtoon. And therefore if there is going to be a season 2 its going to follow the webtoon. Anyways cool right, so if you wanna read the webtoon after watching you can just read from the beginning. Anyways hopefully a season 2 is in works. Thanks or reading. also soohon MUST wake up, he cannot die fr like that season 2 needs him.

just a short review for people who wanna watch
so i just finished this and after watching it i feel like leaving a review of reasons why you may wanna watch it and why you may not want to watch it. Plus my own opinions on the show as a whole. Ill try to keep it as spoiler free as possible.WHY YOU MAY WANT TO WATCH:
1. it has good visuals and good gore. Looks realistic enough which adds to the gory/scary feeling of the series (its not a scary series though, just a little gory).
2. great acting which from all important characters, despite their not being many important ones. Especially the male and female lead did great.
3. The female lead in this is a rare one. Shes very cool and to not giveaway spoilers she gives off main character vibes. Shes one with questionable morals but strong convictions, a rare female lead in Korean dramas. Which makes her interesting as a character.
4. Interesting premise with a new evolutionary human species. Something you may have heard off but is not as common in television, which makes it unique. If you like a sort of "superior humans" kind off story premise, then id really recommend.
5. Short and easy to finish quickly, finished it in like a couple of hours (skipped some parts though).
quick and interesting start, catches the attention of the series quickly.
WHY YOU MAY NOT LIKE IT:
1. fast paced with a too complicated story line. Because its so short but the story line is more complex than that it makes the series feel sloppy and also creates plot holes as well as moments in the story were you're just confused. (probably the biggest con about this series).
2. Another negative aspect due to the short length of this series is the fact that you dont have time to connect with the characters. The mains even feel a little boring at times because you never fully become interested in them as their never explained too deeply as characters.
3. A semi boring main male lead. Quite weak for a male lead, and doesn't really give off the "main lead feel". Also this is furthered due to the fact as previously mentioned, we as an audience never really get to know him. Therefor he is never very appealing as a lead and gets boring fast.
4. SEMI SPOILER OF THE ENDING: open ending, so if you hate open ending you'll hate this show.
5. Underdeveloped antagonist. Could've done way more with the antagonist, feels boring and not as scary as the antagonist could've been built up to be. This point goes a little into point 1.
PERSONAL THOUGHTS:
loved the beginning and made me interested, but then after the beginning it felt a little slow and kinda boring. Even following the main lead was boring and also just the story line got so confusing, it felt to short and like everything happened to fast. The female lead was my personnel favorite because she was bad ass. Ending for me personally was underwhelming and didn't really hit in the so called "moral dilemma" the way the show wanted it to. Probably wont rematch since it felt so in cohesive, But loved the premise honestly, like totally something id enjoy, though a cooler main character would've been better. Lastly the pacing was 80% of why i disliked this, give it more episodes and i feel that'd be so much better.
Thanks for reading :)

Honestly just really boring and bland
This series was just very boring to watch honestly. The first 2 episodes did not appeal to me at all nor did you get a feel for the whole plot of the series. You also get introduced to the main characters whom are honestly very boring characters at the start with not much of an interesting relationship.Another big issue i have with this series is the acting, be warned it is really bad, especially the 2nd male lead. Honestly its not the worst acting ive seen but its definitely not the best, you dont get any sense of chemistry from these characters nor their relationships, this gave you the feeling that the entire romance plot was kind of unnecessary and you didn't get a will to follow it.
The plot is another big issue with this series, i mean its so bad. Lets juts say this series does not have a consistent plot through its entire run, its made up of subplots that yes are dramatic and suppose to be interesting but at the end of the day lead to no big conclusion. The main plot i suspect was suppose to be the school corruption plot line, the problem was that it was so horribly done and messy that when watching you really wont care at all about that story line, it also basically only includes the 2nd male lead whom i know this is annoying to bring up again but is a really bad actor, but with him being at the center of this "main" story line did not do it justice. The story lie was already messy to start with, it left no conclusion nor feelings when watching it, and it was plenty boring. The supposed villain was also boring in this plot i mean honestly they really didn't try when it came to the story line.
So in conclusion this drama is not a great watch especially if you are looking for an interesting drama about high school. It wont give you the high school feel you're looking for nor will it you be blown away by anything,. But if you're looking for one of those background kdramas you need to have playing because why not, that you know you wont get emotionally attached to the yes i suggest this drama you'll most likely drop it when finding a more interesting kdrama.
