My favorite genre is fantasy, but I also like others: crime, romance, action, sacrifice, heartbreak, redemption, mystery, supernatural, espionage, historical, wuxia, adventure, psychological, friendship, and bromance. If a show is very long (25+ episodes), I will sometimes put it on hold and take a break for a period of time while watching something else. I also rewatch my favorite shows often.
I love dramas with strong female characters. Not necessarily that they are physically stronger than the male characters. The Legend of Yunxi and Tale of Nokdu, for example, has a strong female lead, though she is not stronger than her male counterparts.
I love happy endings, but also don't mind some with bitter-sweet endings. I have a hard time with dramas that end on a sort of cliff-hanger or open ending. My favorite thing is to see a loyalty and bond between characters. Something like you see in Word of Honor or in Princess Agents with the one prince and his bodyguard. It doesn't have to be romantic, or familial, but it's something I love seeing in a drama.
There is something beautiful about the costume Cdramas that I love. Korean costume dramas are nice too, but they don't have as much of that fantasy and magical feel that you get from Chinese ones. Although, there is something very comical about watching them and realizing how little gravity they have on those dramas.
As far as bl dramas go, I prefer ones that doesn't make it seem like it's all about sex, which some dramas do. Dramas like Bad Buddy, Word of Honor, Light On Me, S.C.I., Manner of Death are all examples of dramas that might or might not have intimate scenes, but that's not what the drama revolves around. It's about the character's relationship, not their sex scenes, and I prefer that. That goes for straight shows as well.
