feel good, easy to digest, actually good singers, fun and not cringey! all i want from gmm!
EP 1-3 of this whole series was probably what dragged most people over, if u love a good romcom, this is everything! i just love how ep 1 does not reveal anything til the last minute of the episode, had to admit that ep 1 is a bit slow but once u rly get the feel of the show (i.e: ep 1's plot twist or with tinn's side of the story in ep 2) it just got really good nad exciting! the story is simple and light, a good show doesnt always need a mind-blowing level of writing and plot, just some silly goofs in high school crushing and singing is enough for a lot of people!
However, to me, Its a story that hasnt rly been explored esp in asian teen dramas. This story revolves around tinn that became the school president to help out his crush, the leader n vocalist of Chinzilla, depicted as losers united by music, then formed a cute little band. In usual asian dramas, romcom specifically, the guy with authority and popularity are usually the ones being sought after and crushed on, and the loser is the one yearning and begging the universe to get them close. Its nothing new, but this series however played around that trope and made the (formerly nerdy nobi-tinn) cool and popular school president, be the one oh so grossly crushing over some dummy in a band in which, for some reason nobody in the school cares abt. not only is he crushing he is INLOVE and have been pining for years... a classic 'loved by all asians' trope (we grew up watching Crazy Little Thing Called Love, iykyk). Ep 1-2 was a good introduction to the characters, and how they interact with eachother, it was exciting to get to know them, but then they gave us ep 3, the ep of yearning and pining, and that.. was the beginning fo my brainrot towards this show.
Not only that, what surprises me was how good these new generation of actors are. They hv great pacing and reactions.. they have lot of energy which fits the show very well. The chemistry between everyone was good, i believed that Chinzilla IS a group of best friends that loves music but sucks at discipline and studying. They gave everyone a character which makes them lovable and their side-stories enganging.
The music is also one of the reasons why i stuck around this show for sooo long, i just cant believe how good the actor for tinn's voice is!!! his voice is like honey to me my goodness... Then the actor for gun has the cutest voice with slight lisp, he always sounded like hes smiling which is sooo adorable. Then we have other side characters being incredible singers like Sound and Por... and can u believe how they got a musical actress to play Gun's mom? its That serious for them. thats too much talent in one series, what a show-off!(jk)... its all-round a good series with nothing but ~vibes~
Another thing, the chemistry between the leads is also very fresh and new, i dont know how to explain this.. I've watched these 2 in their other series plyaing different dynamics (moonlight chicken, ourskyy2:msp) and still their magnum opus is this one. They were perfect in this, nothing too crazy , just the right 'realistic' amount of flirtyness that a high schooler might say or do. The eye contacts arent forced or painful to watch, they truly are up for the challenge in this role! no matter how red their ears gets! (again, cute)
Overall, best GMMTV has to offer this year, personally, best amongst any romcoms they've done.
Still, i do have some nitpicks after my 500th watched, in which could be disregarded by most, but since i am a pain in the ass, i will just talk abt it hereon. Dont read if ure not interested in complaining abt the details. As i've said before, episode 1-3 of this show is so good, wrapped like a little present, with a pretty bow. The rest? are somehow lack in detailing, lets talk abt it!
