Great development and a lot, a lot of drama
1000 Stars is one of the best series that GMM has produced and one of my personal favorites of all time, I think that what makes this series more special for me is the development of the main character, despite the fact that in one way or another one of the main threads of the series is romance, the series is much more than that.
Let's talk about Tian, at the beginning of the series he is a spoiled child who does not see beyond his interests and personal satisfaction, but on the other hand Tian knows that he is sick that the time he has is short and in addition to that, the time he has It is to live a life that tastes unsatisfactory and transcendental so that he completely embraces his impulses, when an opportunity to live is given to him thanks to Torfun, he begins to live in a way in which he feels that he must pay her what what he did for him, but along the way he discovers who he is as a person and where he wants to take his life, and it is only until the end of the series when he finally begins to live for himself, now he has time to plan a life and do it on your own terms.
I must say that Tian is one of the best protagonists I have seen, from the beginning it is clear to you that he is a good boy who is more and more willing to get involved in community life and help other people, little by little We witness how he builds his own path and the relationship he has mainly with the children of the community seems to me simply magical, the development is so well thought out and achieved that you really connect with him, you care what happens to him and you feel his emotions with him, joy, sadness, pain... etc.
Let's talk now about the drama of the series, this series has a lot, a lot, too much DRAMA! Are you going to have that much drama? Almost every chapter from the middle of the series drops a bomb on you and don't get me wrong as I said that this series is one of my personal favorites, but seriously there came a time where I said ¡ Enough !, I think they overstepped a bit, the reality is that Tian's illness, Torfun's death and their relationship with the community was enough to create the atmosphere of guilt and pain and hope they were looking for, but not satisfied with that we had the “participation of Tian in the death of Torfun” well in some way that helped to reinforce the guilt that Tian felt and what prevented him from starting to live his own life, understandable; then “Phu gets a bullet”, and it was really not going to let him breathe easy or an episode ?; and finally "Tian discovers that Phu was taking care of him so much for his father" and there they did blow the wall for me.
As I said, none of these moments made me enjoy the series less, but it did seem to me that they pulled many strings at the end that were no longer so necessary, because with what they had raised at the beginning of the series it was enough to understand and develop the journey of Tian, but hey, it's going to be, writers like to see their characters suffer.
One of the things that I appreciate the most about the series, is all the treatment that the whole subject of Tian's heart transplant received, this topic is not new and many other entertainment media have addressed it and I must say that this series does it splendidly, when I started to watch the series I was worried that the engine of union between Tian and Phu was the heart of Torfun (at that time I believed that Phu had probably loved her), but no, the series does refer to some similarities between Tian and Torfun but we are never told verbatim that this is because they share a heart, remember that at the end of the day Tian has Torfun's diary and knows her through that, Phu falls in love with Tian for being Tian and Tian falls in love with Phu for the same reason, their love is born from coexistence, from the journey of maturity and acceptance that in the end they both have. Tian wants to pay Torfun for his new life, not because he feels like "her" or something like that, it is simply because he does not feel worthy of living and his guilt eats away at him, until he learns to accept himself and finds value in living for him.
Finally let's talk about the relationship between Phu and Tian, as I said before, it does not seem to me that it is the most important thing that the series presents and that is why I love it, the development is natural and very beautiful, although when they meet a clear attraction is felt between them, I think this was rather done with the purpose of everything about the "heart of Torfun", the truth is that the development of their relationship is slow and we do not have textual evidence until almost the last chapters (we know that they like each other from chapters previous but it is until the end when they are both clearer with their intentions), I really like how Phu's friends notice and make fun of him when you are alone, is do everything very organic, in general Phu seems like a person to me very charming, it is true that she is not a very explored character and therefore does not have a great evolution within the plot, but her role in the series is to accompany Tian is his development and in that sense it seems to me that he does it very well, if I have or something to criticize about this relationship is what happens after Tian finds out that Phu and his father have something like a deal, the reason is that Phu's attitude changes very suddenly, I understand that it is because he wants him to return to his privileged life or whatever, but even so it seems strange to me, also in the scene when Tian goes to look for him in his depression (when they have a beard and surely he has not bathed in 3 days) he has Tian broken there practically telling him "just I need a word from you and I'll stay with you forever ”and he decides to reject it (wtf) and change his mind in the last episodes (Phu lost points with me there, but I still love you), but hey, let's continue, first his change of attitude, then He rejects him, he does not even say goodbye to him, he does not answer his letters, he does not speak to him at the wedding and only at the end, in the end when Tian is about to leave he decides to change his mind and even when the other returns from his studies he does not is convinced that life in the co munity is the best for him, only until Tian makes him understand that being there with everyone and especially with him is what makes him happy, only at that point Phu also begins to live without fear and prejudice and loves Tian freely, precious.
And that that final, almost "post-credits" was just what my heart needed, after so much damn drama, they being happy, having fun, without ties, finally they are just Phu and Tian.
I must say that the performances are very good, Earth is not the first time I see it, but I do think it is the first time that they let them loosen up a little more and it was very good, the children of the community are very good when they are Sad ones convey that feeling perfectly and as I said, the bond with Tian is very nice, and Mix ..., Mix was a true revelation, his sadness, happiness, even his infatuation are so well achieved that it is difficult to believe that this is his first role protagonist, I'm a fan of this guy not to mention that he's gorgeous (and that he looks like Jin from BTS <3).
The setting is also one of those things to highlight, since a series that did not use the university in the background was necessary and this allowed them to explore the beautiful Thai landscapes and their culture, which was in itself a success, the main song is very beautiful and its different versions are ideal for the various situations where it is used, ufff ... and the entire beginning of the final chapter, what a beautiful thing.
Anyway, a very good and beautiful series, which I highly recommend and which definitely left a hole in my life, now that it is finished.
