1. Marathon
Korean Movie - 2005
A criminally underrated gem!
Touching, emotionally heavy subject derived from a real life story, presented in a realistic, positive, heart-warming way.
The relationship between Cho Won and his mother is painfully captivating, while Cho Won's interactions with his family and surroundings are equally humorous and heart-wrenching.
Jo Seung Woo's acting is out of this world!!! One of the most talented actors in a superb, magical performance... What makes his portrayal so convincing is that he never tries to be in the spotlight or wants to be the star of the movie: he is just who he is in a subtle and authentic, as humanly possible, way.
Don't miss it! -
2. Liga do Fogão
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
An excellent sports drama, where the plot isn't focused mainly on sports, but on the people involved in sports industry. A very well-written character driven story, with fascinating characters' depiction and development, definitely underrated but worth watching :)

https://mydramalist.com/profile/penel/feeds/e2lk3Ty
Refreshingly unique blending of slice-of-life, coming-of-age, sports, friendship and romance genres.
Exquisite production, superb acting and a story that could have been a masterpiece if not for the sloppy, rushed closure for most of the characters... -
9. Engine
Japanese Drama - 2005, 11 episodes
How come I've never heard about this hidden gem all these years?
A criminally underrated drama about found family, friendship and bonding, coming of age, sports and many heartwarming life lessons.
A simple yet touching story, smoothly written and beautifully acted.
Kimura Takuya was as fine and charming as always -with his youthful naughtiness, his funny and serious side- while all the child actors (many familiar faces among them) were adorably natural.
Highly recommended!

A refreshing sports drama, focused mainly (at least in the beginning) on the athletes' mentality, their struggles, feelings, worries, fears and setbacks.
With a well-balanced mixture of comedic and dramatic moments, some great camaraderie elements, a lot of really inspiring quotes, and some beautifully depicted character development, it was a pleasant healing story to watch.
Though there were some noteworthy pacing issues, some unnecessary plot diversions and some subplots poorly utilized and concluded, overall it was an enjoyable and very emotional ride.
Time well-spent. -

37. Diva
Korean Movie - 2020
A great performance from astonishingly beautiful Shin Min Ah,
a confusing and somewhat anti-climatic execution that falls short of its premise.
Not bad, but -with this promising cast- it could have been so much better... -

https://mydramalist.com/profile/penel/feeds/rJRZ8I5
An intense, stylish, fast paced youth film, full of 90s nostalgic vibes, with a fantastic duo of friends irl showing an impeccable bromance on screen.
Just watching Lee Jung Jae and Jung Woo Sung interact was enough - no script was actually needed - while its gritty cinematography and catchy music were extra bonuses. -

57. Papai mau

-
64. Campeonato de Sonhos
Korean Movie - 2023
I expected more from this movie with its star-studded cast and the promising premise.
Not that it wasn't entertaining, it was - especially for IU and Park Seo Joon fans-, but it wasn't something special or memorable.
The story was rather predictable, the pacing quite unbalanced, the comic and emotional scenes felt like being too much and trying too hard. Not bad, just a light watch.

65. Como Uma Virgem
Korean Movie - 2006
A difficult theme, with a surprising positive and not overly melo approach.
Ryu Deok Hwan was very young and almost unrecognizable as the chubby transgender young boy who dreams of becoming a beautiful woman, through gender reassignment surgery, and joins his school's traditional wrestling team in order to realise his dream.
The humor wasn't always the best, the tone was often inconsistent, the plot was sometimes simplified, but the story had heart and a message.

66. The Substitute
Taiwanese Movie - 2017
-
67. Awake
Japanese Movie - 2020
Slow and confusing (at least for shogi non-experts), with characters not properly fleshed out.
-
68. Red Shoes
Japanese Movie - 2022
A slow-paced story balancing unsuccessfully between sports and family genres.
In fact, it turned out to be more of a melodrama, with many forced over-dramatic scenes which, unfortunately, weren't the ones on the ring, as they were expected to be.
Asahina Aya and her admirable bravery to pick this role for her movie leading debut was the only saving grace.
