According to Star News' exclusive coverage on the 17th, Im Ji Yeon has been cast as the female lead in JTBC's new historical drama The Life of Mrs. Ock.
The Life of Mrs. Ock depicts the intense survival and success story of a female slave during the Joseon Dynasty, whose name, status, and even her husband were fake.
Im Ji Yeon has been offered the role of Gu Deok Ih, a real slave born between slave parents. After getting into trouble with her mean mistress and running away, she meets a nice new lady and agrees to become an adopted daughter in her family. However, when she suddenly dies, Gu Deok Ih is forced to abandon her name and live a second life as the new lady.
Im Ji Yeon's challenge in historical dramas is her third attempt, following her performances in the movie The Treacherous in 2015 and the SBS drama The Royal Gambler in 2016. However, The Life of Mrs. Ock marks Im Ji Yeon's first role as a sole lead actress, leading the flow of the drama.
After the success of Netflix's The Glory, Im Ji Yeon is set to appear in the ENA drama Lies Hidden in My Garden, which will premiere on June 19th, and the SBS drama National Death Penalty Vote scheduled to air in the second half of the year. Furthermore, Im Ji Yeon is in a public relationship with Lee Do Hyun, who also appeared in The Glory, starting on the 1st of last month.
