In this article I’ll introduce you to some movies that are still in production and two films that will hit theaters soon.
The movie Made in China will feature a small Bridal Mask reunion as Park Ki Woong and Han Chae Ah have recently been confirmed as the main leads Chen and Mi. No specifics have been released about the plot so far, but it is said to be an introspective movie with Chinese eels as its topic. Female lead Mi will be a cold-hearted inspector of the Korea Food and Drug Administration while Chen is described as an emotional and intense character.
The movie will be produced by Kim Ki Duk Films and directed by Kim Dong Hoo who has previously worked as a producer for the film Red Family. Filming will start as soon as the rest of the characters are cast.
The film Fist Fighting was already announced in 2011, but has been delayed because of production and financing issues. Jo In Sung (That Winter, The Wind Blows) was cast as the main lead back then, but won’t be taking the role after all. The hero of the sci-fi thriller set in 2050 is a high-school student, so it’s probable that a younger actor will take up the role. Currently Yeo Jin Goo (Hwa Yi) is considering the offer to play the hero who can’t accept injustice and helps to protect a village that is under attack. Lee Yeon Hee (Miss Korea) was cast as the female lead in 2011, but it’s not clear yet whether she’s still set to play the role.
Fist Fighting will be written and directed by Park Gwan Hyung (Welcome to Dongmakgol)and filming is planned to start in August.
Suspense thriller Seven Years of Night is still in its early stages of casting, but offers for the main roles are out for Lee Hyun Woo (Secretly, Greatly) and Ryu Seung Ryong who has previously worked with the director Choo Chang Min in the film Masquerade.
If Lee Hyun Woo signs on, he would play the son of a man who accidentally kills a girl. He’s scorned for being the son of a murderer, so after being left by the rest his family he has to return to his hometown. There he meets a writer (Ryu Seung Ryeong’s role if he accepts) who’s a former employee of his father and they start living together. After several years the son suddenly receives packages and among the items is also a novel by the writer that describes the murder his father supposedly committed in surprisingly exact details.
Next month movie Elegant Lies will premiere in theaters and the trailer has been released recently. The film tells the story of a 14 year old girl’s sudden suicide (Kim Hyang Gi; The Queen's Classroom) and how her mother and sister deal with it. Kim Hee Ae (A Wife's Credentials) plays the single mother of two daughters, while Ko Ah Sung (Duet) will star as the older sister. When the mother starts looking into her daughter’s death, she finds out some secrets that happened in school, possibly involving her daughter’s friend and classmate played by Kim Yoo Jung (Alumni).
The film The King's Wrath has also released its trailer some time ago and will premiere in cinemas in May. Starring Hyun Bin (Secret Garden) as King Jeong Jo, who is the son of a crown prince executed as a traitor, this historical thriller will depict the struggle of the recently crowned King as he tries to survive various factions’ opposition and assassination attempts. Also in the movie are Jung Jae Young (Plan Man) as the King’s bodyguard, Jo Jung Suk (The Face Reader) as Joseon’s best assassin and Han Ji Min (Plan Man) as the ambitious queen consort of a previous king.
