Young_Ahjumma1's Guide to Spooky Horror K-Dramas

October brings thoughts of Halloween candy, cute costumes and things that go bump in the night. I decided to make it my mission to use this month as the time to watch all the horror inspired Kdramas I could find, which is more than I originally thought. Below you’ll find some of my favorites that I suggest you watch… with the lights on. **NO SPOILERS**

Soul/Hon

This is a short drama that lasted only 10 episodes but it freaked me out BIG TIME. I don’t really get scared but halfway through episode 1 I had to stop it and watch it again during the day.  Soul is about twin girls, Ha Na & Do Na, who attend high school. One of them gets murdered and the other begins to see….THINGS and doing things that aren’t great. If you are wondering what type of horror to expect, think The Ring or the Japanese movie Ju-On, and that would be it.

Coma

This is another short drama with only 5 episodes but that doesn’t make it any less scary. The story takes place in Namwon Hospital and each episode focuses on a different story that happened in the hospital. They always end bloody so be forewarned. If you are squeamish and don’t like the whole blood and guts thing, you might want to skip this one, or watch it during the day time.

Vampire Prosecutor 1 & 2

The name pretty much says it all. Yeon Jung Hoon plays a prosecutor who is also a vampire. He’s searching for the person who made him a vampire and what happened to his sister. During all this he solves crimes that are a bit weird. These dramas weren’t scary at all but they were REALLY good. I’m including them because Halloween and vampires go hand in hand, right?

The Master’s Sun

Perfection! This drama ended not too long ago and I am still having withdrawals. Again this drama isn’t scary, though some of the ghosts look a bit yucky but this show is AMAZING. So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin have to be the hottest drama couple of 2013.  The story line is pretty simple. (Or is it?) Gong Hyo Jin’s character, Tae Gong Shil, sees ghosts and So Ji Sub’s character, Joo Joong Won, decides to exploit that and use it to his advantage. There’s the standard love triangle/square with Seo In Guk and Kim Yoo Ri and lots of laughs and tears. The Hong Sisters did an amazing job with this drama and I hope that someday there will be a season 2.

So those were my five recommendations for horror-style dramas. Have you seen any of these dramas? What did you think of them? Also there are more of these types but these were my top picks. Let me know what your favorites are!
