It is good but not that good!
As someone how has watched kdrama's since 2016 and has watched over a 120 kdrama's and 40 kmovies. I think it is safe to say that I know what I'm tallking a about. It is good but not that good!
Don't watch it because of the viewer rating:
https://mydramalist.com/article/queen-of-tears-officially-surpasses-the-ratings-of-crash-landing-on-you
Crash Landing is better, if it came out this year instead of 2020 it would have had a much higher rating. A lot has changed in the last years, kdrama's are way popular now then only a few years back.
Back in the day we only had a couple kdrama's a year and a lot where very good, but now there are just too many which also gives us a lot of bad ones.
I mean come on! Who remenbes the days of amazing Kdrama's like "My Mister", "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim", "Mother", "It's Okay to Not Be Okay", "Prison Playbook", "True Beauty", "Mr. Sunshine", "18 Again", "Mr. Queen", "Descendants of the Sun", ...
Seriously the industry felt a lot more honest back then, now it feels like it's all about the money. They are anouncing a new kdrama every hour now its ridiculous now.
I will even go as far as saying that : assuming that a kdrama is better based on percentage of viewer rating is a insult to the industrie and to all the master pieces and the people worked on them really hard.
Queen of Tears is good but not as good as Crash Landing, just because something has a higher viewer rating doesn't mean it is better.
If you are a real kdrama fan you should watch the classics even if they are a couple of years old, instead of watching the hyped up ones.

Overhyped
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who thought this drama is overhyped / overrated after reading some reviews. I must say I was quite disappointed with this drama. I continued watching because I’ve seen/ know about 90% of the casts. You could predict what will happen and nothing extraordinary about this drama, just some emotional scenes.
Well, I wouldn’t recommend this to someone to watch if they’re asking for recommendations.

The most depressing show I've ever watched.
I think the title of this drama 'Queen of Tears' is referencing the writer of this drama 'Park Ji-eun' and not anybody in the show, because every single episode I cried multiple times. Even when there was 5 minutes of happiness, the next scene was some extremely depressing thing about miscarriage, or somebody dying, or an abandoned child etc...It was too much, by the end of the drama I couldn't muster up any more tears, I was finished.
AND THEY ENDED IT WITH HIM PUTTING FLOWERS OVER HER GRAVE.
WE COULDN'T EVEN GET A HAPPY ENDING SCENE WITH THEM HAVING FUN DOING SOMETHING! WE JUST GET HER DEAD. What a fucking shit ending, thank you for nothing Park Ji-eun.

Too frustrating to watch
“Queen of tears” as the title suggests there were just too many tears. Not because it was too emotional but it was too frustrating. It should be added in melodramas not comedyHIGHLIGHT : I loved the story in the beginning episodes, plot looked unique and fresh but as the story develops and moves forward , it doesn’t stick to the same uniqueness and loses its originality. The second half of the show seems like just any other kdrama with the same destiny and saviour plot. I thought oh they’ve met before in school and THAT WOULD BE IT ! but NOOO, the writer had to force the saviour part in it too.
I was more interested in as to why the couple drifted apart but plot took an entirely different course.
MAIN LEAD: I don’t know why kdrama writers are obsessed with portraying ML as a super hero, why they gotta be perfect at everything. Beak hyun woo was ALL IN ONE ; top student, best attorney, black belt in karate and top swimmer. Was that really necessary for the story ?? I don’t think soo, I would still have loved baek hyun woo even if he didn’t saved hae in their childhood or didn’t took bullet for hae in. He didn’t need those decorative traits as him marrying hae in for love and not for her money was enough to get him through the entire story.
As for the FL, I liked her overall as there was consistency in her character and she develops a soft side due to the illness. But her amnesia part was horribly written. She had major surgery and there was not even a single bandage on her head and she recovered soo quickly it was hilarious. Even if it’s a drama but realistic factors can still be incorporated in the show to give it a real life touch. That memory loss was the worst part of the show almost made me want to drop the show.
As for Soo cheol (brother), he was lame from the beginning to the end. I thought he will have some relevance after they got scammed but No, He let the wife get away with everything she did soo easily. It was annoying and their love story was not interesting at all instead made me angry.
The grandfather died for nothing. He got the chance to say last words but didn’t said anything meaningful. I thought he will give information about the slush fund or will reveal some useful secret but he didn’t.
Beom ja( aunt) was a fresh character. I liked her.
STORY: Plot was interesting only to the part where the focus was on main couple’s martial problems. They were expecting a child so what happened there and after that ! hyun woo’s hate for haein in that situation wasn’t justified. As for later I lost interest after the family got kicked out from the queens, because the plot become about getting their positions and money back. The predictability of the story made me lose interest. The family lost shares and got kicked out from their own home, but they had nowhere to go was too much considering they were super rich. Rich people have many unregistered properties and accounts. It was unbelievable the family didn’t have anywhere to go. And only hyun woo was trying to do something for the family.
Can’t forget to mention, hae in’s illlness become a literal joke in the last few episodes. At this point even theirs tears become forced and too much. it didn’t make me emotional anymore. Last episodes were filled with what not(all cliches) . The story should’ve been about the married couple and their problems or the class differences they faced or even haein’s illness and recovery.
Based on the story and watchability I will rate “8”for episode 1-6 ( interesting)
“6”for episode 7 to 11( slow and okaish)
“4” for episode 12 to 16( they were dreadful)

Overall I really enjoyed watching the show but I think it's a bit overhyped. Actors were amazing, I loved their chemistry and acting was seriously top notch. I also love shows with excellent fashion styles and all of their outfits literally made me droll.
I didn't really like that first 5 episodes were a bit slow (compared to others). There wasn't much going on and later A LOT things happened to the point where it was all a bit too much. Especially last episode. It lasted almost two hours and honestly it was a bit exhausting, at least for me. I mean, hurt Baek Hyun-woo running away from hospital and trying to save Hong Hae-in from Yoon Eung-seong and also Yoon Eung-seong dying. All in one single episode.
I also didn't really like how they portrayed the grandpa as a bit naive, trusting Mo Seul-hee so easily and never suspecting anything. It was also a bit too much how they portrayed Baek Hyun-woo as a very superior character - excellent swimmer that at a very young age even saved a kid (Hong Hae-in's late brother), top student and was in army. We would have loved him anyways 😂
Don't get me wrong, the show is good, it's also very easy to watch and it will definitely keep you interested but I just think that there were way too many things going on.

everything everywhere all at once ?
as always, the show started off strong & interesting but it got real messy real quick!! the writers are trying to fit in every genre into the show and somehow trying to put everything in makes the show feels like theres nothing to be seen. they try to put all sorts of tropes into the show too like omg... enough.... it couldve been a REAAALLY good show had the writers only go in a certain direction but with every episode its just climax after climax like when do we relax guys...Esta resenha foi útil para você?

Disappointing !
I watched this drama with great expectation . The ratings were high , it ranked high on Netflix global top 10 .But I am afraid to say I did not find it so . It is watchable , but I will not watch it again and I am pleased to know that there won't be a second series because we ended up in 2074 !
I agree with the first two comments on this page . The first 8/9 episodes were interesting but I could not place this drama , was it a black comedy , was it meant to be serious , or not . The characters did not grip me . Hae-In is cold , stony , intransigent, her family not any better . Baek Hyun-woo is not only clever , good looking , but perfect in every way . His family more ordinary .What could have been an emotional journey to reconciliation between the two main characters became a not so believable story and the writers seem to have lost their way . Come on , being hit by a car at full speed and taken to hospital with severe bleeding and injuries to the head , , and on the same day being shot in the shoulder and back in ER after losing consciousness and much blood again . Ridiculous . To emerge from these traumas with not so much as a scratch or scar , or side effect is pushing it into the ridiculous and then I lost all interest and emotion. The twisted plot , the villain and his long lost mother , just not gripping . It had to end , and the ending left me cold . It had been a hell of a journey .

Keep your box of tissue with you
So, "they lived happily and had many children" The moral what it means the end. For me, I really love the drama and all the episodes really enjoy all laughing, smiling, loving, caring, emotions, and crying lots. But the last minute of episode 16, (where you know 'old') I really don't like that part, I got a bit affected by this like idk, my heart and mind like a feeling of discomfort, disappearing, loneliness, like can't describe. And I dislike thing like that especially series, drama for what I have enjoyed soo much like my top drama. Sorry if that makes anyone unhappy. I really love and enjoy the drama lots, but the last minute, sorry.Overall an awesome, superb emotional kdrama. Always great works by the staffs, directors, actors and people behind the backgrounds.
I only want VINCENZO SEASON 2 PLEASE 💖

A Perfect Start Met its Perfect Failure - At the End
The show had me hooked from the start with the main leads' love-hate chemistry. Watching them hate each other so intensely gave me life—like, "I hate you, but also, let's have epic slow-burn romance" vibes. The pacing was amazing in the first 8 episodes, and honestly, I was laughing way more than I expected. But somehow, they managed to fumble a seemingly perfect story, as if they saw greatness and thought, "Nah, let's add chaos."The Good Stuff:
Perfect chemistry from the leads (they could probably hate-flirt their way out of a hostage situation).
First few episodes? Chef’s kiss. I replayed the first two episodes three times—who needs new content when you have those?
The songs slap hard. They set the mood so well that I’m now emotionally dependent on them.
The “Why Did They Do That?” Stuff:
The songs only worked when the leads were on screen. For everyone else? Meh. Except Grandpa—he carried the emotional weight of a Marvel superhero.
The villain? No rhyme, no reason—just villain-ing for the sake of it, which, in true drama fashion, is somehow the norm.
Side characters? Forgettable. I swear they were just standing there as furniture most of the time. And the female side characters... oof. Their acting was so bad it felt like watching an AI-generated soap opera.
And don't get me started on how the plot went from "lighthearted fun" to “political drama nobody asked for.” They had a perfect rom-com setup! All they had to do was ride that wave and give us more of their school life and pre-marriage shenanigans. Instead, they opted for... politics. WHY.
I’m not usually this serious over dramas, but those first two episodes were so good they made me believe again—for a hot minute. But then the pacing took a nosedive, and the whole thing became cheap, forgettable, and un-rewatchable. Like, I’ll maybe rewatch those first two episodes for old time’s sake, but beyond that? Nah.

The execution was all over the place!
The only saving grace for this drama is the phenomenal delivery by our leads and the OSTs.These 2 reasons are why I picked this drama up after I dropped it after ep 13. I just had to see the end of it.
The love story between Haein and Hyunwoo is beautiful. I find it lacking in the overall execution just like the rest of the drama. Even though the feelings that we needed to see were beautifully conveyed by the acting of Ji Won and Soo Hyun, there were a lot of misses in the direction and writing.
The side plots weren't interesting enough for me tbh, I could have done without some of them. They needed to be properly developed and woven into the main story seamlessly!
The villains, Eun Sang and his mother didn't get the ending they deserved! It was rushed
I think giving Dahye and Grace redemption arcs was a poor decision. Not everybody needed to sing "Kumbayah"
I understand this is fiction, but some choices and decisions that Soo Cheol made were unrealistic and made zero sense. They were just written as part of "a great love story" that failed to hit the mark. It was plain idiocy!
The dramatic effects in this drama were more prioritised than making a great drama that made sense and followed a natural progression. It was just one bad decision after the other.
I could list everything wrong with this drama but frankly, I'm too disappointed and over everything that could have been better done in this drama.
The anticipation I felt for this drama from the moment the leads and main plot were announced was completely let down. If I were to rate it based on my disappointment, I would rate it a 5/10.
It's getting an overall 7.5/10 score because the acting from our leads needs to be praised and the OSTs were so beautiful!
And lastly, the hype this drama received is due to the acting of the main leads, and their unbelievable chemistry and because of that I can't in good conscience say the drama was totally overhyped.

The bar is on the floor...
It takes a lot for me to say something is truly overhyped...but this is overhyped. The BAD:
I THOUGHT it was going to be a moving story that deals with the ups and downs of marriage and divorce, but everytime it got close to a scene that could've been a deep insight into why the love between the ML and FL fell apart, it becomes a stupid, surface level, cheesy conversation. No depth, no real, believable development. Genuinely. If you truly want me to believe that that man was so miserable he was almost relieved to hear his wife was going to possibly die...you better show exactly why he suddenly starts loving his wife again, or show a gradual change as he learns to love his wife again, and have them have a real conversation and build their trust again, and their needs to be an actual reason for them to fall in love again...
Soo Cheol and Da Hye were really interesting at first...I THOUGHT, once again, that they were going to work through their issues and they would discuss why Da Hye kept running away, the abusive ex, yada yada, but what actually happened was, Soo Cheol becomes the manly man not a boy anymore man protector, Da Hye's problems disappear, and it's happily ever after? Ok...
Now don't get me started on Hyein's relationship with her mom. I don't wanna talk about it...or the cheesy predictable villain and his predictable evil plan I've seen only one billion times before.
Ok now.
The good...
The acting is very good. Everyone was really truly good.
Soo-Hyun, Jiwon, Kwak Dong Yeon, Kim Sunghoon.
They all did an amazing job with the cheesy, tropey, predictable, seen before writing they were given.
❤️

Park Ji Eun does it again.
Queen of Tears strongest point are the performances, directing and cinematography, there's no doubt about this. Scriptwriter Park Ji Eun has a talent for teaming up with great talents, particular actors, and that's in my opinion the main reason why her drama are usually so successful. She manages to write really interesting and endearing characters, and put them in entertaining situations that grasp the attention of the viewer. The casting director did a particular excellent job on this one because every single character was cast to perfection, every actor and actress fitting into the role as if it was written for them.
I am fascinated by the way scriptwriter Park Ji Eun has managed to mix genres in one drama, because Queen of Tears is a dark comedy, makjang, comedy, romance and melodrama all in one. This screenwriter is not stranger to making a successful and entertaining kdrama, but if you are looking for something that will dwell into the deeper reasons as to why the leads' marriage crumble, logic and cohesive editing, this story might not be for you.
Queen of Tears strongest point is the way both families come together, learning to respect and love each other but apart from that the drama is developed at a surface level. The scripts lean hard on the other genres which is perfectly fine but there were times when I was frustrated at the desiciones being made, the complete waste of time when the families are running against the clock to save one of their own AND the family's business, etc. This is when I think Queen of Tears is a lot like other Park Si Eun's kdramas: they start strong but run out of material towards the second half of the episode, almost as if she introduce a bunch of plotlines with proper solutions to a few of them.
Overall, I found Queen of Tears to be a really entertaining watch to disconnect from reality.
