Imaturidade

Não me convenceu, e a tal viagem no tempo?

Wow.

I thought Meow Ears Up had a weak plot, but at least in that nothing happening made sense. In this nothing happened nor made sense. I think it was supposed to be a parody or something, but I don't really know what it's parodying. I think it might have been making fun of the audience for watching it.

There is nothing positive to say about this, except Lee Long Shi who plays Dr. Pak has a hot body, but it's not worth watching the series as he shows it a lot more on his intagram. Here, I can save you 6 eps. https://www.instagram.com/_longlee7/ Pak Papungkorn does too but we already knew that.

Anyway, this is terrible. If you like Kim & Copter, you probably won't anymore after watching this.

That's A Failed Parody

Overall: I have really enjoyed parodies like The Boy Next Door (bromance) and A Man Who Defies The World of BL, but this was confusing and I did not find it funny. It looks like the company that funded the series is a live streaming app. They could have built a story just around that... an anti-fan and a livestreamer, a livestreamer and his manager, etc. Watched on Viki.

Content Warnings: manhandling

What I Liked
- an established couple with a realistic problem (instead of a stupid miscommunication)
- a medical professional being realistically busy
- that they did show some skinship like the hug in public*
- I laughed...twice

Room For Improvement
- *I think it's a bit odd for one person in an established couple to be reluctant to kiss when asked by the other person at home. Also their kissing was really awkward for two characters in a long term relationship and actors who have worked together several times previously.
- many things that were nonsensical but not funny, i.e. potentially leaving someone who is injured on the side of the road, hugging someone while wearing bloodied scrubs, saying abracadabra while someone is likely dying...
- confusing things, Guy gives up but then they reconcile? Why introduce a fantasy element but then don't use it until the very end? Jing knew about the candy? WTH was that ending????
- many scenes were too long like the brushing teeth scene at the beginning, I watched on at least double speed
- I dislike both main characters, one was extremely immature (what a waste of medical resources) and the other apparently can't set phone reminders
- confusing relationship between the side couple, they were a fake couple and then became a real couple? Though he did clear things up relatively quickly, that's still being a jerk with your arm around your brother and making it look like you are dating.
- 5 minute introduction, with the recap and preview, episodes were about 15 minutes shorter than the listed time

magical realism, LTR

Tropes: magical realism, LTR, breakup, amnesia, reunion

KimCop vehicle from Star Hunter, about an LTR between a student Jing (Cop) + nurse Guy (Kim) who have been together for 3 years. Guy is busy all the time so Jing is starting to feel neglected and look elsewhere. KimCop are excellent (no surprise there) but I was not into the story, premise, or concept.

Star Hunter better be careful with Copter, he’s got GREAT chemistry with everyone, and I’m not mad about seeing him with a different partner. Honestly, I was rooting for Jing to leave Guy for the cute artist phi with the fierce eyebrows who wants to feed him shrimp. It’s a fair cop (pun intended).

The breaking the 4th wall self-referential dream sequence Cheewin crack-head filler is intolerable - I nearly dropped the show because of it. Look, I’d had it UP TO HERE with YYY and that was years ago. The side dishes are adorbs tho. (WHY ARE HIS SIDE DISHES ALWAYS SO CUTE?)

Side couple Viking & TamTam stole this one for me.

Also, just a note, Star Hunter always does this thing where characters neither eat nor drink what they’ve ordered (except in What Zabb Man).

The final ep activates the amnesia trope. Sigh. And that causes a reboot for the romance and because they are older they can make it work the second time around. Honestly I was left, ultimately with a sensation of: What did I just watch? It was terrible.

NOT RECOMMENDED

I truly cannot take this drama seriously. It’s as if they made a drama series making fun of drama series. The overacting from actors who are, in fact, normally rather skilled, is confusing and adds another layer of ridiculousness on top of the existing one. And I’m still not entirely sure the purpose of the three candies since Guy never uses them and instead they get used by everyone else. Also, the relationship between Jing and Kana is just weird. There is one relationship that kind of works which is Viking and Tamtam, but even that seems very forced. Perhaps I was expecting too much going into this as I absolutely adored Kimmon and Copter in the Close Friends, 2Moons, and GenY series. I’m not expecting this to get any better prior to the finale, but I’ll keep watching in case I’m proven wrong.

No Purpose in this Show's Existence

I honestly don't know what to review because, at the end of the day, most of this series was pointless and served no real purpose by the end. it was a show within a show, which is why I'm not always the biggest fan of these types of plots. Because now, the conflicts and everything else that we were watching doesn't matter because it was fictional in their world. By the end, we see that Guy and Jing are actually in a perfectly healthy relationship and nothing conflicting was going on at all. That's My Candy had two of my favorite BL actors and was complete trash and a waste of valuable watch time.

Let's Dive in.

The first episode was promising, a bit weird, but I can usually get over that aspect as long as I see other elements in the show that has potential, but every episode after was just a huge bummer. That's My Candy is about a couple who's been dating for some years, and have trouble with spending time together because one of them is an ER nurse, who's constantly on the go. So the one who seems to have no life breaks up with busy boy and then that busy boy is given magical candy that can grant any of his wishes. Now I could go full depth into the real problems of this series; incoherentness, confusing plot, aggravating characters, and bad communication, but I'd be wasting my time because it doesn't matter. We find out the whole thing is just Jing's school film project, and in reality, these people are normal human beings with healthy relationship statuses.

But let's pretend it wasn't fake this entire time, and get into the root of the problem. If this was the real jIng, then he is a walking red flag. Knowing damn well his boyfriend is an ER nurse who is constantly on call and having to work and instead is so condescending that at one point he makes Guy choose between a person who's passed out or him. On top of that, they break up and get back together way too many times for me to give a damn by the end. So many misunderstandings and miscommunications that I could write a whole page on it. Overall, the professor should only give them a 3 on this movie, one point for Viking/Tamtam, one point for Kana, and the last one because Kim and Copter know how to kiss.

The acting was just weird in this. For one, there were way too many characters that could've been easily removed because I don't even remember half of them. Most of the acting isn't bad, it's just this script sucked ass. I'm usually okay with nonsense and cringe as long as it's intended to be that way and the acting is strong enough to do it successfully, like in SCOY, but this was just worthless ridiculousness. So many unnecessary "funny" moments that made me centimeters away from dropping this. The only reason I didn't is because I love Kim and Copter with all of me. I just beg that the next time I see them, they can be in something not so slapstick comedy. Something serious, and complex, and deep. Because they have the ability to do that, but no one has given them the option to do so.

Rating;

Story: 3 - Utter trash and irrelevant by the end. Viking and Tamtam's story was a bit fun to watch. I also rooted for Jing and Kana at some point, but my hatred for Jing took over and I didn't care for them at all. The plot and everything in it are worthless. I'll give it 2 stars because of KimCop and another for Viking/TamTam.

Acting: 7.5 - Not terrible, just weird, and because of that, the actor's acting came off as kind of bad. Also, way too many characters that I just don't care about. Kim and Copter did well, but I know with a better series, they could've been superb. I'll give it 4 for KimCop, 2 for the supporting roles because it was as good as it could be, and 1.5 because at some point I got to see Pak's abs and god lord.

Music: 7.5 - quite decent. I enjoyed it more than the story itself.

Rewatch value: 1 - If pigs fly.

Just bad. Bad. bad. bad. I wanted to give some leeway because it is KimCop, but not even they could do the series for me. The ending is cute, just because we see them together and being healthy and happy. They have some very cute moments, but you can skip this series and just watch it somewhere on YT I'm sure.

Waste of time

I will say that I don't necessarily like parodies, but this was just especially bad. Not only was it confusing, but the story's plot was weak and frustrating. Reminds me of a worse version of Close Friends. Even for a parody, the events and settings were just too dramatic, unrealistic, and gave me secondhand embarrassment. There was also no feeling of chemistry between Guy and Jing which just made the story even more bland and forced.
Guy- Too much of a workaholic that can't say no to people. But, it's not completely his fault I think because of the fact that he is a doctor and wants to help people. If his friends/ coworkers didn't shove so much work onto him I think it would've been a decent story between the two.
Jing- Honestly, he is just childish and immature in that he can't understand how people who work (especially Jing as a doctor) might be really busy. I get it that he wants more attention and time from Guy but honestly like if he is going to break up with him just do it instead of this whole back and fourth thing.
Other dislikes:
-saying "abracadabra" when treating an injured/dying patient???
-Contemplating for a good while about helping a person who is lying on the side of the street injured
- the magic and whole candy thing in general- it was kind of the whole point of the show but I felt like it was a very small/unimportant part

What a bloody Mess

OMG this drama was the absolute worst for these two amazing leads, I really was looking forward to seeing them again after GEN Y, but what a huge let down.

This drama made no sense at all, and it was literally all of the show, I don't think i actually just sat and watched it, it was that bad!!

There is nothing positive to say about this, I truly cannot take this drama seriously. It’s as if they made a drama series making fun of drama series. The overacting from actors who are, in fact, normally rather skilled, is confusing and adds another layer of ridiculousness on top of the existing one.

Overall: This was really a waste of screen time, and it was really disappointing for me to see Kimcop act or try too in this drama, they literally been seen in a different light, after watching them in GEN Y

Too many unnatural things

I've watched until episode 4 and I'm dropping it.
Honestly, I was so happy to see Kim and Copter again, but the story lacks of coherence and realism to me. The plot was good: an established relationship with some couple problems (and that's very original in a BL) but the writers have added a lot of trash, awkward situations, the magical world of the candyman that spreads in the hospital (the scene in episode 4 with the nurses saying abracadabra was the last straw to me)... too much!

I wanted to go on because of the actors and because I was interested in the side couple, but too many things are uncoherent and don't add nothing to the show, like those long silent scenes where nothing happens.

I hope this will get better for the ones who want to watch it till the end. <3
Perhaps I will watch how it ends once it's all aired - if reviews will turn good - but it's a NO for me now :(

5 stars for the guts to make this available for viewing

There's a slight chance that the series might make sense to you if I tell you that it's purely the hallucinatory fantasies of a someone who has broken up with his boyfriend. It's just someone hallucinating about different possibilities in different parallel universes--that's why the scenes seem dreamlike and the movement from one scene to another make no sense at all. That's also why sometimes the doctors and nurses in the hospital where one of the main characters work seem so busy and sometimes they seem so free. That's also why doctors and nurses can save a patient by chanting a spell.

Maybe there's a way to make more sense of the series if you rewatch it a few more times, but it isn't intriguing enough to rewatch. It's as though someone saw Gen Y 2 (which also features Kim and Cop as the leads) saw how bad it was and decided to make something worse simply because such a feat is challenging.

And simply because someone has the guts to make the series and present it as we see it, the series deserves at least 5 stars.

The series starts off somewhat reasonably, with a couple on the verge of breaking up because one party barely has time for the other. Yet, the characters quickly seem unreasonable. Yes, Guy is so busy with his work that he misses his appointment with Jing, but Jing doesn't seem to care what explanation he has. And as for Guy, isn't there such a thing as paid leave for nurses?

To make matters worse, BOTH Guy and Jing get close to leaving someone who has collapsed outside the hospital in the lurch. Yes, Guy has the inclination to help, but he hesitates because he doesn't want to upset Jing. And Jing is visibly upset that his boyfriend is going to help someone who has collapsed instead of going out to celebrate his (Guy's) birthday. (Hey, it's Guy's birthday--why not let him do something moral as a present?) It doesn't take that long to carry the person into the hospital where there are doctors and nurses on duty, you idiots!

So yes, the only way I can make sense of the series is to understand it as a series of hallucinations (maybe by Guy, who wishes that something can be done to salvage his relationship with Jing). Even the possibility that most of the scenes are merely a movie within a movie (Jing is involved in some student movie production) doesn't make sense.

Just A Hot Mess!

What the heck! This show is a major train wreck! The story line should have been interesting, and a few parts were, but everything was so mixed up - and so much was obviously sooo fake.

I didn't laugh at anything that I think was supposed to be funny, like the doctors chanting to save a patient? huh?

I think the actors were all good, but I also think they should turn down roles that do not help their careers. This is 2022, bl's are getting better, but definitely not this one. And what is with Viki giving this an R rating - it's definitely not. So disappointed, at least it's relatively short.
I really do not understand what the screen writers or directors were thinking with this one.
No rewatch value.
