O Príncipe Sereia (2020)

story: tbh i feel like they could've have done so much with the storyline and the mysterious nature of woohyuk, but they didn't. the title has nothing to do with the story. plus they could've made a drama longer and explore the relationships; i understand it's a web drama but they definitely could've made it more interesting. plus there wans't much character development either.
acting/cast: even though i don't listen to astro, moonbin was definitely the reason why i watched this. i've never heard or seen any of the other members of the cast but it was definitely refreshing to see fresh faces. in aspects of acting, it was mediocre - there were a range of emotions shown but it wasn't carried out in an obvious way.
music: i don't listen to the ost
rewatch value: i wouldn't really rewatch this show but maybe if i'm bored or for the sake of moonbin - then maybe.

" Mermaid Prince " had an interesting idea for a story, but it needed more time to explore it in depth.

The drama started well, and it kept the interesting camera work and cinematography till the very end. The performances were good from every actor and actress in the cast, too. Also, somehow, even though this web drama is only six episodes long, the love triangle was solid and entertaining.

And now, for the minuses of the drama. The idea of the plot was nice, but it was underdeveloped. The whole romance was, in addition, rushed and thus, that had consequences on the intensity of the love story and the chemistry of the couple. The second couple was on and off screen and it was probably only there to fill in the scenes between the ones of the main couple's.

So, overall, four out of ten.

Underdeveloped plot, but the cast tried really hard.

This show could have been amazing, but it was limited by time constraints & a busy plot. It simply tried to do far too much, which led to it accomplishing very little. Time that should have been spent developing the pairing's relationship was squandered on a useless side plot about the guy in the friend group's unrequited crush instead & his interference in the fledgling relationship between the romantic leads wasted still more valuable time.

The saving grace that made this show bearable was the cast. They tried so hard & their talent is so obvious. Jung Shin Hye is so beautiful & Moonbin is just so endearing.

Me gusto este pequeño drama, me gusta Binnie como actuó, todo. Esto de las enfermedades raras esta arrasando en los dramas asiáticos, es la primera vez que escucho de una enfermedad de ese tipo y el lo hizo bien. Pero ¿que paso con la actriz? ¿Es ella actriz? De ser así no es muy buena... Siempre quede a medias con su actuación, si lloraba no me hacia sentir nada no parecía que llorara o estuviera feliz. No había nada en ella... Estaré esperando mas dramas con Moon Bin.
De todas formas vale la pena verla porque esta Binnie y el es demasiado tierno de ver.

i have some mixed? feelings about this drama... overall, it was disappointing. but instead of ranting for too long, i'll sum it up in a list of pros and cons.
pros: the plot, as bland as it is, it's bearable and quite bingeable. 0.5 stars for the moonbin performance because i love astro. cinematography was good too
cons: felt far too short, which made the acting feel very bleak and at times even meaningless?
but it wasn't exactly bad either... it's just that when you make such a short drama, you can't expect it's impact on the viewers to be grand. the mermaid prince will be scattered by the wind and eventually forgotten, as much as it's sad to admit

Cool Concept

I will admit I was drawn into this series because of Moonbin. I learned about Astro from Cha Eunwoo in his Kdramas years ago. But I also have a deep love for The Little Mermaid. I absolutely adore how this show adapted that story and expanded on it more.

Pros:
Really cool concept with the fairy tale.
Beautiful setting and costume design.
The aesthetic is clean and nice.
More seasoned actors shone despite the time and budget restraints.

Cons:
Audio was weird (I’m not sure if it’s where I watched it, but often the actors were whispering and/or the music was too loud.)
Concepts could be explored more. (I know it’s a shorter series, but if they wanted to make this a full 16 episode series it has the potential.)
Weak acting from Moonbin. (As the male lead I was expecting more and a stronger presence. Even with his character’s illness, he was very quiet and hard to remember)
Repetitive story (Main characters got drunk almost every episode. Ending is vague as well)
