This is literally my first and only review, i'm sorry if i have poor vocab and descriptive words to serve this drama justice so bear with meThis was my first xianxia drama. I am not the biggest fan of historical dramas, I definitely prefer modern romance dramas, but I love dylan and esther so I decided to give this a chance, especially after I finished alchemy of souls which I absolutely loved.
I am so glad I decided to watch this show, honestly I binged LBFAD in three days. I was absolutely stunned by the everything. If you are hesistant to start bc you aren't the biggest fan this is your SIGN!!!!!!! Give this drama a try!!!
Esther and Dylan have improved their acting and perfectly executed so many different emotions for this drama. Their chemistry together is just through the roof
The OST is beautifully made and fits each scene wonderfully. It gave an extra emotional impact to each scene!
The side cast were very likeable and added to the show and all had very crucial parts to the main overlying story.
The CGI was definitely CGI lol but it was well crafted and I applaud the team for making it look modern.
The only personal thing of why I did not give this 10 stars was because
(spoiler ahead) episode 35 in which half the episode was focused on a certain character's arc that wasnt the main lead causing the finale to feel rushed and no room for emotional closure for the main leads!
overall this drama may be one of the best I have watched in 2022 and will be missed ?? i will forever remember this drama as the one that got me into historical cdramas!

Cotton Candy Costume in the Clouds... With Thunder
Come away with me.... and will kiss... Watch this drama and get swept away to a fluffy worlds high up in the sky gorgeous colors, flying whales and flowers as far as the eye can see.This is a drama that you start watching and without noticing you have seen 10 episodes and long for more. The plot has a lot of well known and well loved tropes and cliches, and can feel a bit rich a costume dram made light and highly accessible making it a dram that fits both new comers and people who have seen a lot of these, as far as I understand, me I am more of a newcomer but not a complete nube.
What I love about this is the pace, the visuals and the rare fact that no one annyd me to the extent of me wanting to skip scenes. Do not get me wrong there is one annoying character and a whole bunch that had my blood boiling. But the annoying character was manageable and got less annoying with time. The blood boiling types well they kept my blood boiling throat and in a good way.
The female lead is a naive one, but not to naive and though she may not always be my cup of morning dew at the end of the day she has some pretty powerful scenes, and delivers her character/s really well.
The male lead is just perfect, not in a ooh I want to date this guy but in a entertaining, cute, romantic at times, cold as an iceberg other times. Acting is spot on and the chemistry between the two makes not only fierworks but makes way for a lightning storm or ten...
The Second male lead and second female lead (if that is what she is) are also this rare commodity of lovable but not to lovable. They will not give us SLS but not make us want to throw them in to a pit either.
There is also a pretty good balance between suspense, fluff, intrigues and humour. I for one could not help but laugh every time the cold male lead smiled.
And then there is this whole body swap thing, that always has had some parts to it that have gotten on my nerves in other dramas, but did not in this one so an extra point for that too,
I am in no way saying this drama is perfect, but it is just so pretty, entertaining and definitely worth a watch. It is also a lot shorter than many other dramas of its kind and to be honest I would not have minded another episode or 20.
P.s. This is deffinetly a drama you will want to binge so make sue you have the time for it when you watch it.

dropped, rewatch and love it!
I started watching this show when it first came out and didn't like it after 1st episode. I didn't felt like the CGI, acting and all was the kind of xianxia I would enjoy. Anyway, i decided to give it a go again and surprisingly love it a lot! I personally think this show was Esther Yu and Dylan Wang's best work out of all their other shows.This show really grow on me the more I watch. First off, the storyline is very refreshing and new, although pretty predictable but i think the FLML will surprise you time to time! The development is great. I know a lot people might not like FL's character or her voice but trust me, it gets better. This show is considered fluffy and very straightforward to me - female lead doesn't throw useless tantrum or go on extreme hate mode after finding out "the truth", which i love. She trusts what she sees in the male lead even though he is a devil/ is evil in their world. Male lead although known as the "bad guy" is an absolute sweetie when in love. He is always there for the female lead and never allows her to get hurt. To me, their characters is one of the best I have seen in xianxia dramas. I like their relationship progression and even with the 2nd ML's involvement it was never toxic or anything. I also enjoyed 2nd ML's story/pov a lot and the show will really make u love both the male leads. The pace of this show have shown that with just 36 episodes is good enough for a xianxia drama with good development! I just wished that they could have ended with another 2/3 episodes so the ending wouldn't be so rushed :(
I am taking away 1 point from the ratings because the ending was too rushed. For people thinking if they should start watching, i highly recommend this!
BONUS: i realised there are a lot of goodlooking people in this show, it's a total eye candy! also, the soundtrack is very nice!!!

This is a 36-episode top tier Xianxia drama which has turned the genre on its heels. To begin with, the story is a good one and they have executed the script to near perfection. It follows a naïve fairy who unwittingly wakes up the devil. The cute fairy and the domineering cold demon are tied by a heart’s curse and thus begins their journey of love which is a pleasure to watch.
It’s a fresh breath to the genre, because for once you have sensible main leads and a love triangle that does not get on your nerves. There are no fillers and the plot is water tight. Now it’s a typical Xianxia but what it makes it different lies in the execution. Every tiny detail is taken care of and that is a rarity. It’s a mixture of medieval art, modern thought and Chinese aesthetics.
The scriptwriter has written a compelling story with a coherent storyline. It manages to seamlessly combine comedy, romance and also angst in the latter part. Don’t be fooled by the hilarious opening, the last few episodes are tear jerkers. In 36 episodes, this drama is an intense rollercoaster ride, that will make you laugh, love, cry and adore each moment.
Wang Heidi and Esther Yu as Dongfang Qing Cang and Xiao Lang Hua sent sparks flying onscreen. They beautifully unfold a captivating love story that develops naturally and flows seamlessly captivating your heart strings. Their chemistry is electric and they make every moment count with comic, sweet and bitter moments that tears your heart apart. They are both natural and so comfortable with each other that makes the drama so real.
Esther Yu convincingly portrays the orchid fairy, a dynamic character that’s easy to hate because it can appear too fake or flamboyant when not conveyed well but she manages to pull it off effortlessly. She radiates different energy in different situations but still remembers the essence of her character, a warm and bubbly fairy. She also brings out her acting range when she body swaps and pulls off the serious and cold domineer. She has also used her own voice, which I personally find very fitting to the character.
Dylan Wang has greatly improved since Miss the Dragon. His acting is terrific, he showcases a variety of expressions that blend into his character. Despite being the heartless moon supreme, he displays brilliantly how his icy heart sea slowly melts. He gracefully transitions into someone with emotions and gradually makes more micro expressions and gestures to show how he’s starting to fall in love and feel emotions. Wang Heidi as the moon supreme is magnificent and he nails the character; his body and eye language are both great. Not to mention he is an eye candy in all those costumes.
Zhang Ling He as the SML is very lovable and he can seriously give you second male lead syndrome vibes. His performance as the Lord of War who wants to protect his love and can be a friend to his arch enemy is quite endearing. You will also fall in love with the SFL Danyin, a fairy who can love endlessly but can also gracefully give up. For once you don’t have the wicked woman who is obsessed and delusional in love to the point of madness.
Every character is there for a reason, they have their own personal motive, background story and their decisions contribute to the intensity and development of the plot. It’s a happy ending with all the loose ends tied up, except that the last 5 minutes could have been better, showing their return to Cangyan sea or how Dongfang can wield glazed fire but still better than most dramas.
The drama is visually appealing in terms of sequencing, graphics, and cinematography. It’s only a S production but they have used the money in the right places and it shows. The art team needs to be applauded. They have visually articulated a fantasy world where every detail is enchantingly portrayed. The costumes are gorgeous and, in each realm, they have really put in a lot of effort into visualizing how the characters need to look on screen. DongFang QingCang’s outfits are mostly black with a hint of gold, showing his sovereignty as the moon supreme. Xiao Lan Hua’s outfits are in bright pastel colors fitting for a fairy with bright and bubbly personality.
The CGI effects are top notch and rendered so well that it gave an ethereal and mind-blowing result. In each realm, the lighting, visual art, setting and color palette enhances the overall cinematic effect. The combat scenes with hell fire and Dylan Wang’s entry scenes are beautifully done. The scene where Rong Hao and Chang Heng enter a painting is just amazing. Again, well done camera work, really good angles and each shot is epic. The way they have designed the realms shows a lot of research work. It has been a while since there was such beautiful and mesmerizing graphics in a drama.
The drama also has a very beautiful soundtrack and background music score. The soundtracks are great and the lyrics are so meaningful. Almost all of the OST’s are good and the background music score for this drama is exceptional. Some of the BGM’s can make your hair stand up and is a masterpiece.
Usually, Xianxia’s are long but very few manage to leave a long-lasting mark despite that. This drama has set really high standards for a Xianxia. The last time a drama was this close to perfection was Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms and long-time drama viewers would know that it was a classic. I would say this drama is no less in comparison. Overall, I would rate this drama a 9 which is something I rarely do because the plot, casting, setting, cinematography, CGI effects, color palette, OST’s and execution are almost flawless.
So do yourself a favor and watch the drama because it’s the best Xianxia that’s been out in recent years.

One of the best love story!
This drama truly portray classic love story and all the feelings are mutual and it especially emphasis true love do exist which is done beautifully without any cliches and cringeness. That's why many of us feel so in love with DFQC and XLH due to their pure love. Two lonely soul finally become a soulmate and they way the speak/action are from heart which is seldom can be seen in the drama nowadays. We cry, we laugh and fell in love with DFQC and XLH over and over again. Many said XLH is childish and immature but once we lost her after she is reincarnated into Goddess Xi Yun everyone is sad together with DFQC and we want to old XLH that love DFQC with all her heart.They give us peak of comedy, romance, heart break and give us hope love conquer all feeling and makes this drama is truly a gold. Definitely this drama going to be one of the classic fantasy drama love story that should be recommended through generations.

I quite like a dominating male lead, and one who is strong and protective, yet also faithful and respectful to the woman he loves is very appealing. Orchid is beautifully portrayed. Her little voice is perfect for her sweet fairy nature. Her generous smiles light up her face so joyfully. Her own journey of growth and self discovery is every bit as amazing as Dongfang’s. Her mantra of “I love all beings, and I love one person” made for difficult life choices in the circumstances she found herself in.
Chang Heng is very likeable as the heavenly god of war. His character in the human realm is so different but equally sincere. The side characters are wonderful. Shang Que is adorable in his unwavering love of Jei Li and total loyalty to the Moon Lord. Fairy Dan Yin has a well rounded story arc and is brave and true. At first I thought she would be one to cause trouble to Orchid but I particularly liked how the side characters aren’t used to create angst for the main couple with that typical downward spiral of jealousy leading to evil plots, which is a common contrivance in other dramas. Instead they have their own journeys, make their own choices and are quite delightful to watch. It is very refreshing.
The costumes are wonderful, especially the totally amazing headpieces. The realms are so beautifully crafted.
There are blurred lines between right and wrong, good and bad, victor and victim in all the realms. I see this in other dramas too but perhaps this one takes it further. Seeing the moon tribe village without any men due to the past war was really sad. The fear of annihilation drove both sides to extreme measures in the past and has kept them at a distance since, and always on alert to possible threats. This makes it hard for them to unite against a common foe, who manipulates both sides quite easily.
I did wish for a longer ending. Things were wound up well but I simply wanted more of Dongfang and Orchid.
I think this one could easily be rewatched. I loved it.

This show has consumed me
I never particularly liked romance as a genre. This show made me realize that I just hate badly written romance. I was completely surprised how much I ended up loving this show. It had no right to be as good as it was.Both leads go through so much character development that I was really attached to both of them at the end.
The side characters are also great they all felt very fleshed out to me.
I have seen a lot of people describe it as "your fanfiction dreams from when you were 14 come true," and honestly that's pretty accurate.
This show had me laughing and crying and I already can't wait to rewatch it again.

Good drama
At first, I dropped this drama after a few episodes because I detest female characters who are purposely written as clumsy, whinny, and clueless. It's not endearing but really annoying. But after hearing good things about it, I decided to give it another chance and watched it till the end.This drama has amazing character development. It starts off as kind of comedic but later becomes quite dark and emotional. The main characters go through a transformation. She becomes more mature. He gains feelings and empathy. They are star-crossed lovers and this drama really went out of its way to show the type of love that endures. They fought for each other, made sacrifices, had faith in each other and at the end stayed true to who they were. They also made each other better. She matured from a clumsy airhead to a thoughtful person. He developed feelings and was able to form relationships and appreciate others.
The ending felt rushed. One moment she was waiting for him to come back to life, the next moment he was standing behind her "I am baaaack!", they kissed, the end.
The story tended to drag sometimes but it didn't affect the plot too much.
The acting was fantastic, especially by Dylan Wang. The way he conveyed emotion after Orchid died was heart breaking.
Overall, the show has some really good acting, good music, really emotional scenes, and a very touching love story. Recommend!

Best Xianxia Drama Of The Year.
Honestly Love Between Fairy and Devil is one of the best xianxia dramas I watched in recent years. I went in with low expectations since the recent dramas of that genre didn't really love upto the hype and plus I needed something to kill time while waiting for Love Like The Galaxy episodes. I got curious about the drama after AvenueX told that there will be amazing CGI so I came for the CGI.But I was so blown away by LITERALLY EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS DRAMA. First of all Dylan Wang, he was the most unexpected surprise. After the whole Miss the Dragon, I didn't have much expectations but boy he delivered the best DFQC EVER and our Esther Yu was amazing as usual. The whole cast was PERFECT. They all played their role perfectly and to the point.
I thought the story will be not that interesting but AGAIN I WAS SO WRONG. The story is not that complicated but it was so well written (no loopholes) and usually in xianxia dramas I tend to skip the mortal realm part but here it was the BEST. Not overly sad but super cute and sweet.
If there is something I wish that they improved was the pacing of the last 6 episodes. It started to feel a bit rushed to the ending. In my opinion, they could've taken out or reduced the length of the whole twins story line since it didn't really have much of an impact.
Overall it has amazing CGI, costumes are on point, story is well written and acting was delivered perfectly. I can go on and on about the drama but I'll stop now.

What if the fate that brought you together turns out to be the same fate which you had to fight against, in order to change an inevitable ending of separation between life and death?Will you still fight with all your might despite knowing that the ending would still be the same?
or, let me just ask again...
Would you turn that fate as your own as long as your beloved one could be safe and happy, even if it means your end?
"Love Between Fairy and Devil" is that xianxia/fantasy drama which dwells into such intertwining fate. Who would have thought that the biggest devil of them all wasn't the ancient evil god named Tai Sui, but, the FATE that played a huge part in bringing the both of them together. Yet, such kind of fate has been used as a trope over who knows how many dramas/movies already...and to be very honest... a devil falling in love with a fairy or rather someone from a heavenly good side then ending up to be a good guy with huge character development? oh! that reminds me of the body switching soul stuff! Like these aren't brand new, practically speaking these are the very same tropes which we had seen from the previous dramas/movies we've watched before. I'm pretty sure there are quite a lot more similar scenarios in LBFAD that had been seen before, so why bother watching it right? WELL, if such a question or thought ever pops up in your head. I'm telling you right now, forget it immediately! GO AND WATCH LBFAD! or else you will always be in doubt and left in the dark, not unless you give it a try because this drama is worth every second and every emotion that you will ever spend on. Love Between Fairy and Devil is not only a fantasy, romantic, comedic, and refreshing drama but it is a unique and top-tier quality drama blended together with a beautiful epic storyline (I'm not even exaggerating).
I don't even know where to begin.
In terms of the quality production for this drama, there is no doubt that a high quality budget was spent in not just its CGI effects but with the costumes worn by each different characters in the three realms and not to forget the props that were used too. It's really evident that a huge sum of money was spent here and that includes huge amount of effort and time as well for the crew and actors. The trailer already gave us a glance of how breathtaking the scenes are, and the drama itself totally blasted off cinematic vibes which made every episode that we watch feel as if we were watching a movie rather than a drama. It's actually crazy. When you start to get used to such good quality, you would have this urge to try and find other dramas with such quality as well. This is one of the reasons which makes LBFAD unique, not every xianxia drama we watch would end up with gorgeous effects. My personal favorite places in this drama are: arbiter hall, the ruins of xilan and the moon tribe. For the costumes, Dong Fang Qing Cang's outfits throughout the whole episodes were top-tier for me and following that is when Xiao Lan Hua was dressed in moon tribe clothings. They were definitely eye-catching that I had to not only replay the cute, funny or sweet scenes between DFQC and XLH, but to also see more pretty details of each costumes they are wearing. Another thing I would like to point out is the fact that their depiction of the three realms, mostly between heaven realm and demon realm (moon tribe) were completely different here. Not entirely though, it's more about the costumes and set-up from the usual heaven and demon realm we used to see. So, an excellent job well done for all the production staff and crew behind this.
For the storyline, I have so much I want to write but I think it is best to keep it as short as possible. To be honest, at the very beginning I had no expectations for it because I thought it would be like what I said earlier, be the same as other dramas with familiar or well-known tropes. That was what I initially thought at the beginning. I also confess that during the first episode of LBFAD, I was quite annoyed with Xiao Lan Hua's voice and character because I am one of those who aren't a fan of actresses with cute voices to the point where it makes me cringe. So, I was planning on dropping it. Fortunately though for me, I didn't let my initial judgment about this drama get in the way of me discovering such a gem. As I continued watching at some point, XLH's character naturally grew on me and just like that I didn't find her annoying anymore. I guess this is one proof that no matter the prejudice of an audience, a good, talented, and skilled actor/actress can always find a way to change ones prejudice through their hard work. Thus, I stayed through the entire 36 episodes without skipping any single scene. It was the actors and characters that made me stay but what made me kept going further is the well-developed and heartfelt storyline. Like I said, I won't say much so let me just point out what I had loved most from the storyline of LBFAD. I loved the natural pacing of romance between DFQC and XLH, it wasn't love at first sight or the slap and kiss kind of romance, it developed gradually and naturally from the "from now on, you're mine. your life belongs to me, your breathing belongs to me, your heartbeat belongs to me, every drop of blood in your body belongs to me", to "you are as precious as my life" to "she's the only one who loves me" to "I will change her fate for her". Their romance that was foretold in the storyline itself is so beautiful and warming. Every moment of theirs and the emotions portrayed by each character just pulls through your heartstrings. Then there comes the comedic part, I find the whole body-switching thing so entertaining, it was so funny whenever the both of them switched bodies especially when XLH in DFQC had to attend moon tribe meetings as the moon supreme lord. Though, surprisingly enough, not every funny scene was focused on the body-switch, there were a decent amount of comedic scenes at the right moment so it wasn't dull but entertaining rather, plus the scenes goes well together. Even DFQC's character has his own comedic moments which I loved too. Lastly, the heartbreaking and tragic scenes that made me shed tears and feel pain, this is exactly where I found the gem of this drama. As much as they were hurtful, they weren't pointless and each scenes opened a door for character development and it also became an eye-opener for the deeper emotions and feelings between each of the characters which the human eyes of the audience can't see but rather just feel from the heart. In conclusion for the storyline, as much as it gives you that genuine love feels, it also gives you an inner deep feeling for each character in the story. Despite the ending seeming quite like a rush with DFQC and XLH reuniting on the last few seconds with only just a kiss, no wedding or any thing else, it was satisfactory at some point and it is indeed a happy ending after all.
Before I end this, let me just praise Dylan Wang for his amazing portrayal of DFQC, he ate the character alone especially during his emotional scenes. His emotional scenes where he cried is honestly the best for me apart from his powerful fighting scenes. Ofcourse, Esther Yu had done a great job as XLH and the goddess of Xi Yun. I'm sure a lot is in store for the both of them in the future. I will never get over the overflowing chemistry they showed us both in the drama and when they were shooting the scenes. I would definitely love to see more of them, not just as DFQC and XLH but in a modern drama as well in the future.
Hopefully, one day we can meet DFQC and XLH again.

It's worth sticking with the show, even if you struggle with the first few episodes
The second part of this drama is much better than the first. It's yet another example of how a superficial script can lead to poor performances. Once the actors were actually given some nuance to portray, they did a great job. Kudos to Dylan Wang as Dongfang Qingcang and his supporting cast for their emotionally powerful performances. The scene where he cries for his father is still one of my favourites. It made me realise how rare this kind of emotional outburst from male characters is on television!Esther Yu's character(s) were difficult to watch at first. The voice and one-dimensional character of Orchid and later Xi Yun have thankfully undergone some positive changes. Similarly, Zhang Linghe as Chang Heng felt rather flat for most of the show.
I found the concept of the conflict between the Fairy Realm and the Moon Clan quite interesting, although the Fairy Realm lacked some depth. The main villain of the show ended up being quite disappointing and some of the twists and turns were unnecessary. While I won't be re-watching the whole show, it had some really impressive and memorable scenes that I'll be back for!

A romance that burns your entire existence
This drama is a typical XianXia. It's got everything; from romance to gods, evils, mortals, hardships, and magic.If you're a romance lover, be prepared for a battle of the hearts. But, in the end, your heart will be so full that you want more :)
The story
As my experience with other high-quality Cdrama xianxias, the plot has 3 stages:
1- The first encounter, happens between the immortals and gods. This is the base of the drama. There has a been war years ago, and the villain was captured, who happens to be the heartthrob Dongfeng Qingceng. We get to know two polar opposites with broken pasts come in contact. And, there is a love curse involved( romance lovers: this curse is the core here :)
2- The second stage happens in the mortal realm. But this time the leads are not there for hardships or examinations. They are there to really learn the meaning of their existence. This is where they truly fall in love( or at least we see it for ourselves).
3-The final stage is Sacrifice in my opinion. True lovers Sacrifice each other for their beliefs and their loved ones. Everything is wrapped up quite well and there are loose ends left, which is phenomenal.
Acting
All did well in my opinion. Even the villains are portrayed and depicted well. You can clearly feel their motives and the reasons behind their sadness or hardships.
Music
I'm a sucker for OSTs. just by reading the Song's meanings, I figured out how meticulously they chose the songs to match the atmosphere and the leads' love for each other. The background pieces used were marvelous. Hope they release an album soon can't wait!
Overall
A very pleasurable Cdrama. If you're into romance, action, wars, hatred, magic, and misunderstandings, this will keep you hooked till the end. You will be craving more each episode, as the story goes on.
