"I'm Crying Right Now; Can't You See My Tears? Why Did You Hide You Couldn't See?""

(Joo Hee's necklace finally made it back to her daughter, Yoon Ji Hye!)

I have had a few of you like the Long and detailed synopses on some of these movies, but this one will not be one of them! This movie was too long to do it that way.

First, I am disappointed how some 'critics' compared this movie to director Kwak Jae Yong's movies before, My Sassy Girl (2001), and after this one, Windstruck (2004}. This movie is a drama/love story with some humorous parts in it; while the other two are comical movies with drama in them. There should be no comparison, except for quality...

This movie was made, in my opinion, to be a masterpiece that stands the passage of time.

My Sassy Girl (2001) and Windstruck (2004) are part of a "My Sassy Girl Trilogy" by director and screenwriter Kwak Jae Yong. "My Sassy Girl" is the first in the series and "Windstruck" the second, with the 2008 Japanese film "Cyborg She" being the last one. These three are not about a traditional girl, as this one is, and the comedy is given more emphasis in the other two than here.

This is a traditional movie with traditional characters and traditional values being embraced.

I have no idea why he did "The Classic" between the the first two of the "Sassy Girl" series, but they are only connected by their Screenwriter/ Director Kwak Jae Yon did "Daisy" as screenwriter and "3 Colors Love Story" as director (both 2006) between the 2nd and 3rd of the "Sassy Girl" series.

This I believe will be a classic movie in the future, when all is said and done.

In my opinion, comparisons of this movie should be between his "Daisy" and /or "3 Colors Love Story" and this movie.

The main cast here are excellent! There is a great acting from both the main female and three main male cast (I include Yoon Tae Soo (Lee Ki Woo) since he appeared in more of the movie than Oh Sang Min (Jo In Sung) did.

Joo Hee / Yoon Ji Hye (Son Ye Jin) was excellent in her roles as mother and also her daughter and exhibited a wide range of emotions as both the young daughter of an important official and again as Ji Hye, her daughter.

The two men pursuing the mother, Oh Joon Ha (Jo Seung Woo) and Yoon Tae Su/Soo (Lee Ki Woo) performed with the abilities of older, more experienced actors and played their parts, both as best friends and of rivals for the same girl, brilliantly. All three of these cast members effectively portrayed individuals in love, and as both friend and also rivals wishing the other suitor of wasn't so attached to the female. whose love they are fighting for.

Also, Oh Sang Min (Jo In Sung) performed his role effectively as well! And his acting after being told of his father and his lost love was excellent, as if he was a carbon copy of his movie father, Oh Joon Ha!

The support cast also performed as if they were the characters that they were playing, and supported the main cast appropriately.

I loves the way that the adolescent cast members felt 'inadequate' in writing their own love letters and involved their best friends in this task, and the difference between the two parts here in the movie as well.

I loved the cinematography, plus the placing of the music at what seems just the right moments to both support the story and also bring the audience to an emotional apogee! I would also love to live in the area of the river/reservoir; it is so beautiful!

The scenes in the school are also very convincing, and even the house the mother, then daughter, lived in make such a statement toward the ambiance in this movie. The director and his assistant(s) did a spectacular job on this movie!

I have said in other reviews of other movies that I wished that the director has spent another 10 to 20, to however many minutes, on developing the main characters more; this movie seemed to be perfect in this respect as to length. Time was taking to develop the four main characters to the point where the audience 'felt' for all of them, even as the audience knew that someone would ultimately lose in their quest for their love being fulfilled in these triangles!

I think Kwak Jae Yong took a lesson out of director Akira Kurosawa's movie "Seven Samurai (1954) in his total development of his main characters, taking his time telling the story of Joo Hee / Yoon Ji Hye/Oh Joon Ha/Oh Sang Min and Yoon Tae Soo. That is most of the reason I believe that in the future , this movie will be thought of as a true movie classic and not just in name)!

WARNING: This is at least a two-box-of-Kleenex movie, so don't start the movie without at least one box on hand, and someone heading for the local store to obtain another box of Kleenex before you reach the halfway point, or simply buy two boxes of Kleenex beforehand

RE-WATCH VALUE: Definitely!

my all time favourite

"The Classic" is not the kind of movie you would have expected or hoped for from Kwak Jae-young. Instead of a "My Sassy Girl" sequel he presents us with a "classic" love story indeed, which comes along with very little to no humor at all. Of course, it exhausts the full range of clichés that a typical love-story offers. But on the other hand, this is done with so much passion to detail that the movie doesn't seem tacky. But "The Classic" has to be seen as a classic indeed, thus you can forgive him some moments that may seem rather hackneyed in any other love-movie.

As iam writtying this, i cant stop crying, at been along time since a movi can touch my soul like this one. I acnt belive at passe 13 since this move came out, and let me tell you , it is a masterpiece. I think if you dislike this movie , the reason it need to be ; you just dont like romance, because it is impossible to not fall in love with this brilant movie.
There is no better adjective to set this movie! "The Classic" at first glance may be regarded as more of a cliché novel, of extremely predictable history. And so it is! But no, do not get carried away by it. You know what I think about cliches, do not you? If not, I'll tell you one more time. I do not care what the story comes to tell, I care how the story will be told!
It's not just another teenage romance, it's the teen romance, created to be enjoyed, lived and experienced by young adults who admire the Classics! It is by no means one of those usual American youth love films. The fact is that The Classic is an indispensable film in any Oriental movie collection, especially for those who like Korean romantic cinema or just good love stories with a lot of soul.
The movie is also critical! It portrays rigidly, in every sense of the term, the period of political turmoil that South Korea passed while under the Military Regime. Physical punishment, harassment and other consequences of this form of government. There is still room to demonstrate moments of manifest, in addition to surgically approaching the Vietnam War.
"The Classic" is not just a romance movie, it goes beyond. I could talk even more about the wealth of details that the feature is about to bring, but I would need to split the review into two parts. So see yourself and draw your conclusions.
I have come to believe more in fate and more in chance at the end of the film. The sensations and emotions lead us to the real facts that we are subject in life. ''Not everything is flowers''. There are difficulties, there are obstacles. And the easy way is not always better than that of pain! We all have happy and sad stories!

THEY DON'T MAKE EM LIKE THIS ANYMORE !!

They don't make movies like this anymore.
This is a rare gem.
It appeals to you in every manner right from the get-go.
The story is simple, but the way it has been presented, acted and directed is mind-blowing.

The chemistry is too good to be true.
There's a breeze of authenticity to everything this movie has.
The casting was spot on.
Watching Cho Seung Woo as a young naive boy was so much fun.
Similar for Soo Ye Jin, she pulled it off amazingly.

Overall, I totally loved the first 100 mins of the movie but the last 20 mins are where the problem lies.
It was messy, not needed and could've been written in a much better way.
The last 20 mins disconnect from the whole idea and the smoothness with which the movie proceeded till that point.
It leaves us with a bitter taste in the mouth when it ends coz it's too far-fetched from what started as a simple story.
That is not to say it wasn't good, but when you've honey in your mouth, eating a spoon of sugared jam doesn't sit well with the taste.

The BGMs were effective, and the songs were miraculous especially the folk dance scene.
Aww, I just love this movie.

Truly a Classic.

While watching it, I pondered why it's named ' the classic ' , thinking it was a ridiculous name for such a movie.
But by the end, I realized why it was named so.

SPOILER AHEAD:

It's named the classic, coz it's a classic love/ romance story where the ML and FML try to fight against the moral and social odds, and still don't end up together.
Hence the name 'the classic'.
Kinda cool, right?

A classic Korean romantic film, reminds me of the drama series Reply which is almost the same as telling a kind of story in the past, where the story also goes hand in hand with the story of the characters in the present. The difference is, in this film, the character in this modern era, or the child of the flashback character, is made to have a love story that is almost the same as his mother. In modern times, the Reply series is more of a tool to trigger nostalgia and do flashbacks while guessing who will be the husband of the main female character.

What is certain is that this film has qualified actors and actresses to build a good film and indeed there is nothing I can complain about from their acting performance here. They manage to build a good chemistry, injecting enough emotion to feel attached to their characters.

I myself prefer the story of Mother, Joo Hee and Oh Joon Ha because it is more emotional and when I saw their love story my eyes filled with tears, their meeting at the hospital was really heartbreaking, as if they realized that was the end of their story. The story of Ji Hye, who is also played by Son Ye Jin, feels lighter but is actually sweeter, they repeat the story of her mother but in Joon Ha's shoes, and is paired with Jo In Sung as Sang Min which surely makes girls melt.

That's all I want to type. Thanks.

Sinematografi ya biasa aja, tipikal film asia jaman dulu.

nice story which can live though test of time

The Classic (2003) - 8,5/10 kmovie

story is nice two generation romance. +- its about daughter reading love letters of her mother and learning about her school romance
Of course drama got another storyline which is daughters current romance.

Overall even this movie is quite old it was funny and melodramatic at same time. Whole movie got about 2 hours, but more or less first 1,5hours is slow storytelling for both timelines an last 30 mins are climax of whole movie which connects both timelines together.

plot - FL[1968] is daughter of high official, but one summer she was at vacation viciting her uncle in countryside and found her first love[ML[1968]]. Later on they both meet at Seul, but into their love comes third guy which is officially engaged to FL[1968]. Continues their lovestory.
FL[200X] is daughter of first FL[1968] she manages to read her loveleters from past. FL[200X] loves ML[200X] which is quite popular guy at school which is together with her best friend. FL[200X] got nothing else to do than secretly love ML[200X] from far away.

genre - romance, melodrama

An oath of silence
My feelings swore to
Not to be spoken of again
But I like to think you too, keep quiet
I'll never shout it out to the world
That I feel a certain way
But I don't want things to change
I swore to the heavens
I swore to the sea
I swore that I'd make you
Stay with me
An oath of silence
I swore to myself
It makes me all the more confused
Picture perfect agreement

But I don't want things to change

I swore that I'd set you
