It was good, but expected a bit better
I chose this drama based on the recommendation comments. All general it was good, but somehow I expected a bit better… bit more…The story was goodish, a typical arranged marriage story. The cast was also good, they were well chosen, each of them suited the role they were assigned to.
My main problem isthe main character's character and their character development.
Both main characters have the same "fault". Sometimes they are unfollowably cunning. Sometimes they are simply unbelievably fools.

It started well enough. I was invested and my heart truly ached for them when their foolishness caused each other pain. But as the story went along, it seemed to lose its direction and trotted to a quickly wrapped up ending. I got the feeling the script writers had no idea how to finish this story so it meandered to a less than stellar end. The last scene set in the present made no sense whatsoever. It should have been cut.
This is one I would not watch again. If I had to choose between this and Maiden Holmes, MH would win out. I found the actors more talented and the story better written.

it's a rewatch!
this is a review after a rewatch. I watched this back when it was first aired in 2020 and I still remember how I waited every week for the new episodes to come out in their official YouTube channel. and when I first found mydramalist a couple of years later, I remember I rated this as 9.5. not sure why I suddenly had the urge to rewatch this again, but I still like this the second time around, even if some things became slightly more obvious to me during this rewatch. and because of that, I rated it down a little this time (still an 8.5-9.0 for me though. lol)Ok, first lets go through the pros:
-I really love the chemistry between ML and FL. Even from earlier episodes, their chemistry was chef kiss. All their lovey dovey scenes were making me feeling all the glory of my single hood. lol When the general pampered his wife, I was literally squealing , not to mention when he was being protective of her. This pro remains the best thing in both my first watch and rewatch
-Caeser Wu's acting here was brilliant and it makes me want to search more of his works. however, I remember watching his other work and felt his acting was off there (maybe because I absolutely cannot stand his then FL's acting. haha sorry). I especially like how he broke down during the quicksand scene when his lady saying her final goodbye expecting their little family to die together, I can feel a mighty general's helplessness during that scene and how he broke down crying after was beautiful and heartwarming
-the plot, even though doesn't make that much sense sometimes, goes well with the lighthearted theme it seems to portray on
-the costumes were mostly beautiful, though not all, some is a miss as well. lol
-OST was very nice. and can be heard all through the drama, not just the beginning and ending like some drama's osts
-due to its lighthearted genre, and not so long episodes, a rewatch is possible
The cons:
-hate the fl's younger sisters. lol. such an empty minded green-eyed bitches
-the final bad guy (Situ) was a weak villain (and who the hell believe a guy taking someone as his little sister after just a game?)
-on my rewatch, I have a slight problem with Jin Er behaving childishly, only creating ruckus and end up having the General to solve them for her. However, during the second half of the story, I cant help but blame the General always acting alone and refuse to sit down and explain his plan, even though it is obvious that his wife will be involved no matter what. this leads Jin Er to act blindly and falls into wrong hands, I mean, trust should be a two way street right? The general shouldn't expect Jin Er to follow his words blindly when it is her and her families' sake at risk.
-the love story between Xiuyuan and Ruonan was not that well developed to me. and when compared to the smothering chemistry between Chu Xiuming and Jin Er, the difference became that much glaring
All in all, I enjoyed this even on the second watch. So I guess, there is that lol. Recommended if you are looking for something lighthearted and with 65% comedy. lol

Funny, entertaining, and romantic: the complete package.
This Chinese drama brings a twist of arranged marriage that seems destined to go wrong, but in the end, the protagonist falls head over heels for the crazy and mischievous leading lady.Regarding the political intrigue and mysterious plot, it's a gripping tale that keeps you curious about what truly happened in the past, so I really enjoyed it.
In terms of romance, my friends, the drama is perfect – there are love declarations that scream how much the protagonist adores his wife, the kisses are perfect, and their companionship is the icing on the cake.
Overall, I highly recommend this drama, but I must warn you that the only thing that disappointed me was the rushed ending, which, by the way, seems to be a trend in most of the dramas I've been watching. #disappointed
That's it, folks! Watch it!

NOT A TYPICAL HISTORICAL DRAMA
If you are into some serious historical drama then this is not the drama for you. This drama contains lots of fluff and skinship romance for all people who loves romance. Instead of finding the Female lead annoying I find her adorable and funny which gives this drama its comedy side. The FL is not a childish girl who can't do anything without her partner. She is a strong girl who wants to protect her loved ones. The ML is a flawless character which will make most of female watchers fall for him. The casting is very suitable for each character.TBH I'm not the type of person who loves historical drama as it usually bores me with the draggy plot and much historical backgrounds. I usually prefer modern dramas instead of the historical ones. Though this drama has lots of misunderstandings, it is not draggy and every problem was solved in a short amount of time. I finished this drama in 2 days.
Ps. The second and third couple gives extra point to this drama... Each couple is so cute

It was okay for the most part, however, this was an average script that was elevated by the many cute couples but ultimately let down by plot cliches. Best and most hilarious scene was in the last episode when the Emperor and his brother both tried to give up the throne. Caesar Wu does it again
The show is called The General’s Lady. It starts with a young lady, the daughter of a Duke, being betrothed to a general who has been assigned to the border for ten years. This general is known to everyone as a savage on the battlefield. He had three previous wives who all died. This young lady did not want to marry this kind of husband. However, the order came from the Emperor himself and could not be disobeyed. And so, she manipulated the situation so that her other sister was sent to the border to marry this general.Caesar Wu plays the general. Tang Min plays his wife.

An interesting drama that is overwhelming with colors and varieties. P.S. Watch out for KISSES!!
I ended this drama with the words "好可爱/ Hao Kei Ai"~!! Their Little Soldier look so cute and fluffy. This drama may not be the most strategic, complex and well funded but it do live up to peoples satisfaction with its best.
Honestly, up until the last couple of episodes I'm still feeling annoyed at some cliche twist but it all went well and those things are the 'common elements' of a drama so I just accepted it. Anyways, despite all those scenarios I still wouldn't take credits off of this production for such silly reasons.
I'm lost for actual words and phrases so let me just enumerate the things I like and dislike about this drama.
✖ Dislikes...
- It's more of the disappointment I have with some plot that supposedly the MAIN HINT for the dramas development but ended up being unexplained and useless; and I'm talking about the Phoenix Flower. I mean, Why? Why?
- I'm really irritated during those times Chu Xiuming is being unreasonable and immature same goes with Shen Jin's lack of retaliation and self-worth during those moments she's trying to show his feelings to CXM. Like, Why Miss? You're better than that.
- I HATE the 2nd & 4th Shen Sisters. Those 2 bitches seriously got nothing to do but to go around being toxic and envious.
✖ Likes
- I love how common yet original the story is. They obviously followed the norms but they made it sweeter and more playful.
- The kissing scenes. Like there is so much of them that I always felt like floating over cotton candy's. Hahaha
- Story development of this drama is something I commend. The pace of how things worked out just felt so right and I never felt it was purposely slowed down or rushed.
- Character development and such felt so nice as well and I love how they cover and showed us their share of happy endings.
- The Final Episode.. I hope it was longer... It really hit me when all of the important character went to the General's Manor to witness SJ unexpected Delivery of her child; that scene felt so conventional and warmth my heart so much.
Story - 10, I would admit that it's not the BEST but it surely deserved this perfect rating as this drama satisfies me with it's own colors and varieties. I just can't think of a reason why this production deserve a lesser point or two when i absolutely enjoyed it.
Acting/Cast - 10, Well executed and they really played the colors of their characters pretty well. Aside from the Main Leads the Supporting Character couples made this drama extra special. They're indeed a sight to see.
Music - 10, Honestly? I only heard 1 song the entire drama duration LOL. Maybe i'm just so engrossed with the drama itself that I didn't notice all of the sounds used for each scenes. Hahaha~! It only means that they never bothered me and instead made me more comfortable watching those moments as well.
Rewatch Value - 9, Up till this point i'm still contemplating whether to give it a perfect 10 or not but i still ended up giving it a 9, not because I'm dissatisfied or something but more of 'contented'. This is the type of drama that feels right just by watching it once but will surely recommend it to other people.
Overall - 10, Definitely a Perfect 10. It's a one of kind drama that will make you feel different emotions just by watching it. It offers a wide variety of feelings that is very comfortable and relatively easy to watch.
Please let me know IF you find my review helpful. Thanks!!

A must watch if you love a well done non-draggy period rom-com!
I rarely enjoy Chinese Drama since it's usually draggy and too melodramatic with not so good humour. This one is an exception! The story is not entirely in line with the original novel it is based on, but I think it's better written with some artistic licence taken by the scriptwriters for adaptation into the series. It would be weird to watch if the girl is 14 years old marrying a much older man (which is typical of a girl's age of marriage in Chinese history) according to the original story but that eliminates the Chinese title's relevance (General's little wife). The storyline and characters are well written with good acting, a very rom-com story-line and, as usual, a slightly annoying female lead. I love the OST and background music. Also, an exception to most Chinese historical drama is that there are lots of very realistic romantic flirting, kissing and intimate scenes between the couple as new husband and wife early on.
Tang Ming and Ceasar Wu have fantastic chemistry between them. Both main leads did a good job acting and bringing out their characters. Ceasar Wu had improved his acting skills much since Chang An Youth. Overall, it's well done and not overacted like a lot of Chinese rom-com. It's a plus that they're both eye candy. The main lead female character is very witty and bratty, sometimes annoying. Still, it is justified by her spoiled upper-class upbringing with a mix of harmless delinquency due to being bullied by her sisters. Caesar Wu's portrayal of the General is very realistic and cool, but I'm afraid I disagree with the story description that the General is icy. He's not icy at all but a quiet, deliberate, caring and lonely hard-working man. His sense of humour is there but muted until he met his match. The romance between the two main leads is funny but not realistic (but this is a rom-com). The humour is well written, and I laughed out loud so hard it made my family wonder what I was doing? The fight scenes are well-coordinated, though there are few of them. The clothing is, as usual for the Chinese period drama, elegant. This series is definitely a must-watch as a period rom-com if you enjoy Chinese Drama of this type. It is also a good watch if you don't like the draggy Chinese Drama; this one doesn't feel draggy. The dialogues are well written and funny, so pay attention to it. The main characters' lines are often witty. For someone who often loses patience with Chinese drama, I really enjoyed this one and finished it.

Protective general with witty wife: perfect mix!
was gonna not watch this drama because of how terrible it sounded in the comments lol but i’m so glad i went through with it. such a cute, smooth sailing drama! i am so such a sucker for ‘hard faced on the battlefield but soft in their wife’s arms’ military generals. fantastic chemistry between TM and Caesar. Caesar has truly grown since Meteor Garden (and he looks so freaking good in costume). will anticipate both their future projects (incl. s2 of this drama hehe). the FL was not as bad as i thought she’d be, i’m glad she had such a personality and stood her ground on things. it’s rare to have a charismatic FL who isn’t swallowed up by the society women lived in in that time. the story as a whole was entertaining and i enjoyed how quickly misunderstandings were solved!knocked off 2 points because of the ending. i can see why they did that (to set it up for season 2) but also. not a fan. i’ll put the details in a spoiler.
overall, defo worth a watch!! don’t get put off by the comments. you’re in for a treat full of fluffy romance and kisses <3
