heart stopping thriller
This South Korean thriller's twists and turns is an outstanding and promising debut for writer-director Kwon Oh-Seung; it's gripping as a genre exercise and tense. But it also provides a (perhaps unintended) critique of a society that frequently views women and people with disabilities as less valuable than males who are physically fit.Unlucky Do Shik was about to attack another young woman, So Jung (Kim Hye-Yoon), when Kyung Mi just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. So Jung's incredibly controlling brother Tak So (Park Hoon) had warned her not to stay out too late. Uncomfortably, it appears that he was somewhat correct
if you love a good edge of your seat thriller from start to end this is the film for you, definitely one of my favourites.

This was a roller coaster
Okay so this is probably going to be my first and only review. . Umm I'm not sure if these count as a little bit of spoilers but I'll keep the tag up in case. This movie was AMAZING. The acting was spot on and holy crap Wi Hajoons acting was scarily impressive.
It had me look away sometimes and gasp because of the jump-scares and surprising scenes.
By the end of the movie I was so so relieved. Still, all of the things the psychopath did was scarily smart and a little predictable at times. Not to mention what MC did near the end, I was super impressed. If I had to put one thing I didn't like, it would be the police or civilians not seeing what was wrong. I'm pretty sure it was obvious something was off about the guy but yep.
And yeah that's about it!

Wrote this after a rewatch and though I already knew, my feelings were the same in two watches
Seeing the concept (and Wi Hajoon) was what made me interested, and it didn't disappoint me. I absolutely love Hajoon's (and everyone's!) performance in this movie. I first watched Hajoon's soft side in 18 Again, then saw his cooler side in Squid Game, and this is (I'm pretty sure!) the third Hajoon project that I've watched and he did amazing in every single project of his I watched so far, and Midnight is definitely one of my favorites. The chase scenes were honestly so scary and definitely made me just want to focus on it (tbh the whole movie is), like, I felt like if I just tear my attention away for a second, she would get caught or something. There were times when there was absolutely no sound at all, kind of putting it in the girl's point of view and at those times it was the scariest. Even for those few seconds of silence it felt terrifying for me, I really can't imagine how terrifying it must be for her. Running from a serial killer that you have to look back on to check if he's close or not, and though she was on the run herself, she still felt the need to help out the girl she just met. But it was the most frustrating thing ever. She was the nicest girl but when she was the one in need of help, no one did. When she approached some people and they just kinda walked away, it REALLY frustrated me. And I guess the killer is a pretty dang good actor himself for people to believe him over his victims. Or are they not able to sense ABSOLUTE FEAR FROM THE GIRL???? LIKE?????? YALL SERIOUS???????? Maybe if they bothered to actually pay attention to the girl and what she's TRYING HER BEST to convey............ But yknow what, I'm not even surprised about that because that's what these genres do. But it's overall pretty good. Honestly, I don't watch movies a lot but after watching this movie, I suddenly got in the mood to watch some other movies too.

So worth the last effort of her.
Ok, I'll try to make this review very simple. I've been watching k-dramas and k-movies since I was in my high school. And already have seen around 80-90 of them, but I'm telling you I never ever have seen such a masterpiece. All the aspects of this movie like story, osts, acting etc. will definitely make your heart go fall in love with this movie.I loved the way FL tried every way possible to make herself and her mom live alive. So worth the last effort taken by her. Never expected something like this, she'd come up with.
Moreover I would like to add, this movie successfully expresses the human emotions like selfishness. I detested the way police officer choose to give up on saving the FL in order to save her sister. But isn't it's the way they represent human selfishness, more and less they nailed it this time.

A good thriller for thriller enjoyers (like me)
You must’ve heard the phrase “being on the edge of the seat.” That’s exactly what this movie made me do. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole movie. The first time chills went down my spine was when the FL got in her car to run away from Do-Shik and he was already sitting in her car. Damn.Kyung-Mi was very smart. Most importantly she was good at catching up. When the first time she asked the public to help her, they didn’t because she had a knife in her hand and Do-Shik didn’t. She learnt from this. She learnt that people believe what they see. So the next time they encountered e/o in public, she injured herself and made it look like Do-Shik did it and this time “people believe what they see” worked in her favor. My favorite part in the whole movie.
Lastly, the acting was 10/10. And the situations were well thought. The scene where Kyung-Mi felt trapped and had no choice but to beg for mercy in front of the psychopath, mind-blowing. It was very relatable with a very deep meaning. Anyone with no other choice would get on his knees to save himself. There’s a hindi proverb that goes “मरता क्या न करता” lit; “a person who’s dying would do anything.” Both the leads did an amazing job portraying their characters. Throughout the whole movie it felt like those actors were really their respective characters (which, obviously, is false. Wi Ha-Joon isn’t a psychopath lmao).
Thanks for reading my review!

Not Your Typical Serial Killer Thriller Movie!
I went into this movie thinking that I would know how it'll end but the characters and story kept on surprising me! The storyline was written well and the scenes were carried out very nicely by the main cast members. The action scenes were amazing to watch and there was some really great thriller heart-racing moments. There were no jump scares, which is good because I don't like them, but that did not make the movie any less scary or intense to watch. There were also no dumb characters, which was surprising because some thriller movies usually do. I am amazed again by Wi Ha Joon's acting and I am excited to see him in more works as the male lead. Wi Ha Joon has great chemistry with Jin Ki Joo so I would love to see them as romantic partners in a drama someday. Anyways, this movie was a great watch and not your typical thriller movie. It is a great choice for people who are afraid of thriller movies because this is as exciting as a thriller without too much scare.Esta resenha foi útil para você?

If you enjoy true crime, you wont get bored
The story was pretty simple and something you can find while listening to a true-crime podcast but it's a movie. It's definitely not a waste of time but that's about it.
What I Liked
The commentary on how society treats deaf people rings true throughout the narrative, it also accents the police incompetency that will frustrate you
The killer is your typical unstable, grandiose, psychopath who was quite smart and thus could explain why he wasn't caught for most of the narrative
What I Found Meh
The cops like in most true crime/ horror films are a waste of taxpayers' money, none of them believed the victims because they were deaf and women and were really shitty at their jobs
All the women are victims with little to no agency for most of the story, aside from running away or crying, and that's kinda cliche, Despite there being numerous ways to fight off the killer.
While the men were the only ones to even hurt the killer (like the serial killer does more damage to himself than any of his victims)
Ratings Explained
The story is pretty solid, the acting top-notch, the music highlighted the moments but nothing really stood out.
It's a pretty straightforward narrative so rewatch value is not as high as the suspense is greatly reduced.

Being targeted by a serial killer who chooses his victims at random and kill without any reason was a scary scenario normally. Even more when you have a disability that may hinder you to seek help or even to protect yourself. Which is why the situation in the movie was scary.
I have to say that I really applaud Jin Kijoo in acting as a deaf person in this movie. Her acting, as well as the actress who played as her mother were really good at bringing out the tense situation on being targeted by a killer while having a great disadvantage of not being able to hear your suroundings as well as not being able to speak clearly.

Frustrante
Lousy Chase
I can't make anything out of this movie. Serial killers is just low-life butchers. He just wants to kill women. And police with proper high-tech Korean technology can catch a killer because our lousy serial killer threw 12 tons of evidence at the crime scene. It's like he doesn't care about anything because he himself called the police after committing murder. In the meaty part of the movie, both the killer and the brother had infinite chances to kill each other or the deaf girl. But they just threaten each other with knives. It's a mess. They're just trying to make the audience emotional by portraying meaningless scenes, which can't be performed when a serial killer is after you. Normal people seem to not understand anything; they just take anything at face value.

Really enjoyed it
The acting was excellent, in my opinion. The movie was fast-paced, especially in the second half. There was the thrill in almost every scene. But the acting takes the prize home. I loved the female lead's acting. I look forward to more of her work. The male lead (?) of the Squid Game fame really surprised me with not just his acting but the character choice. I hope he goes on to do more such interesting and diverse roles.
The film doesn't really answer the question of why and who and how this person is the way he is but with a movie titled 'Midnight' and the story unfolding in the course of a single night, I thought it was a perfectly reasonable choice.
Looking forward to more such interesting movies.

What a thrill ride this movie was
To be honest I am not one for thriller movies at all, but this movie sure as hell grabbed my attention fully. I saw a video on TikTok that made me want to watch it and I am not disappointed at all.I screamed so loud for nearly half the movie because of stuff I did not expect in the least to happen. My heart was beating a hundred miles an hour because of the suspense in this movie. The main female lead I already love as an actress because of Scarlet Heart and The Secret Life Of My Secretary.
Tonight I will be starting Squid Games because of Wi Ha-Joon. He is an actor I should keep my eyes open for his future work.
