As mentioned in another review, this show is NOT a high-star series. The editing and placement of the various storylines create quite a mess if looked at with an overall viewpoint. But here's the catch, despite the unbalanced screentime and the confusing start, each couple has a really nice story of their own. If you separated Fighter & Tutor and Zon & Saifah's stories and made them into their own small miniseries it would be great. Each storyline goes well on their own and is what makes this an enjoyable watch.
I do wish that there were more focus on some of the smaller couples as well, as I saw potential in each of them, but in reality, many of the couples could've been omitted from the main series, to create a smoother and less confusing show. These couples were somewhat just thrown in to simply add more couples, which is fine if you're able to convey their arcs in a good way, which sadly Why R U did not manage to do. The stories were nice, but cut way too short, giving the viewer a difficult time to fully enjoy the couples. One was suddenly rushed due to them not having screen time for the majority of the last episodes, and another one just seemed to suddenly disappear and show up again in the last episode. Honestly, these couples weren't needed, the show could've been just fine with its main focus being on only FTTT and Saizon.

With that being said, the acting was really nice. The weakest actor of the main 4 comes from Jimmy who played Saifah imo. He was not bad as per se, but he was also nowhere near as good as either Saint (Tutor) or/and Zee (Fighter). The reason why Tommy wasn't mentioned next to those two, is because he lays on the 2nd place on my list, with Saint and Zee having a shared 1st, he did great at portraying the character that Zon was. His face was full of great expressions but there were times where he lacked, but both Tommy and Jimmy are getting there, so just give them a few more acting jobs and they'll be able to seal the deal.
Saint is great as always. I've only ever seen him in Love By Chance, and although I see similarities in both Pete and Tutor, Tutor is definitely a much more outspoken character, and it was nice to see Saint play someone whose personality is close to his irl persona.
As for Zee, it was my first experience with him and he did great. His eyes said tons and oof you can't forget his crying in ep 12, that shit hurt. I'll make sure to keep my eye out for him in the future.
I can't really say much about the other actors, as I don't personally think they got enough time to show off their potential.

Despite the unfairness of the screentime, this show was still enjoyable. The abundance of FTTT made me miss Saizon tons, and the fulfillment was great when they finally got their screentime. I can't wait for their special.
The plot tho, if you ommit FTTT and Saizon's main arcs, was messy. What happened to Zon's sister? Her role was much larger in the beginning but she suddenly disappeared. Also, Hwahwa moved on so damn fast, it was pretty funny ngl. But the way they showed Day, in the beginning, made me believe that their storyline would be more fulfilling, but everything happened so fast and suddenly they were out of the picture, which was sad as I would've loved to see their development better.

To conclude,
Why R U is an entertaining show if you don't take it too seriously. Ignore the messiness of the side plots and the unbalanced screentime and you'll get two great relationships to follow. The chemistry is great and the kiss scenes are there in an abundance (FTTT, I'm looking at you). Stay for the chemistry and not the structure and you'll be sure to have a great time.

And tbh, despite not liking the theme song, I jam to it everyday.

why r u... why r u... why r u...

this bl is not "good," but sometimes things that are not good still have the power to drive us absolutely insane. i loved the characters. loved them! as i go about my day, i still think about them, which is a sign of strong writing. the editing, the cast, the music, the editing were all great... that being said...

the episodes that came out before CO-VID 19 are good. actually, they're great. if they kept up that level of quality, why r u? could be my favorite bl. the setting is familiar, students at university, but the premise (at least for zon's character) is unique. he has premonitions of being in a relationship with his acquiescence, saifah, and his twin sister, zol, writes gay fanfiction about them on the internet. the premise of zon's sister writing gay fanfiction about him and saifah creeped me out at first, but odd as it sounds, i eventually grew to enjoy it. after all, if zon can see into the future, and they're twins, can't i conclude she has the same abilities? once i started seeing them as psychic twins, i found the idea of her turning her gay premonitions about her brother's love life into fiction funny. she is adorable, and i missed her character when she was gone!

saifah and zon are adorable and hilarious. once tutor and fighter get together, they are so into each other it's sickening, and they have the hottest makeout/sex scenes i've seen in bl. i was literally mystified by them, and by saint (actor who plays tutor), as a whole. outside of their respective pairings, zon and tutor have a cute, supportive friendship. tutor has a gay boss who supports his relationship with fighter, which i love to see. the three other side couples (1 het, 2 gay) were a little boring, but cute!

however, after CO-VID 19, why r u? turns into the tutor/fighter show, with saifah and zon appearing for a few minutes an episode, if at all. even then, their scenes together seem incomplete. it's a huge letdown, when they seemed to be the main couple...

obviously, why r u? had some production issues it couldn't help, which will leave you angry and disappointed. the end feels rushed, and leaves interesting plot points unresolved. i think it could potentially be redeemed with a season 2, or a re-edit, if the cast were able to get together later and refilm.

SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT:

why r u? becoming the tutor/fighter show would have been fine, if not for their awful break up melodrama. tutor and fighter's dad meddles in their relationship, and the pressure makes tutor break up with fighter. it's during this arc fighter assaults tutor. it doesn't go beyond kissing, but it's still extremely upsetting to watch. even more upsetting, they get back together soon after, and fighter's dad is magically no longer homophobic...

This can be so frustrating...

This one can be very frustrating. What they do for comedy just doesn't make sense. And, the things they do to each other - can be cruel sometimes yet, they all act like it is normal everyday stuff. Zon's sister is awful. Apparently, the series must have had some serious blowback due to what she did and they wrote the new Sai-Zon episodes to make her look like she wasn't as bad as we saw for 14 episodes. And, how Zon's friends - talk about him to get Sai-Zon back together proves my point about how worthless they are.

Girls/family members using real names in fiction just to get popular? Girls ruining reputations for their own selfish pleasure? Shipping innocent people together for their own entertainment and then, embarrassing them into an event so, they don't look bad?

The most evil characters - consistently, in this entire drama are the women. No matter what they say and do later - it never erases the pain they caused to everyone involved. The shipping pair simply celebrate that they used people for their own benefit. At least you could understand the father of Fight, he ended up having to face his son and realize the damage he had caused over the previous years to his own family.

It took more episodes than it should have but, the real stories finally started to weed out the lesser characters (and that is a good thing). Half way through - and it finally pulled itself together.

I finished this because the casting/acting is acceptable though, so many scenes have you wondering if this is really a university or, if there is too much lead in the water. Really bad directing - first timer? Or, just bad at directing? The writers should have been penalized for the red flag incidents they created for viewing pleasure and then, glossed them over by simply leaving those characters out later or, not even mentioning the pain they caused.

Thank goodness the production doesn't understand how to do the product placement stuff. You see it but, you never know what they are drinking or, if they even like it. A breath of fresh air on that note. I just finished one where the episode would end early just so they could do a several minute long in character commercial for a wireless carrier. When they got to the make up - it was more apparent but, never overly done. Again, a breath of fresh air.

this show is a mess and I still enjoyed it because I was isolated and depressed

Story: I did like the original idea of the story, especially the surreal/supernatural aspect; sadly, the show didn't go all in. At first, it seemed to be dancing around the question "Is this happening because of Zol's fanfictions or because it's just life?" And after a few episodes, it was dropped entirely and only brought up again when it was convenient. I don't know how much they had to cut short and/or change because of COVID, but you could feel something was missing. Aside from that, there was way too much going on. We don't need like 4 (?) couples in a show. Especially if those couples aren't even given the necessary screen time or like a coherent storyline that accomplishes something. They felt very out of place and pulled you out of the moment. We definitely didn't need the cat couple. You could've cut them out, and literally, nothing would've changed. And I'm choosing not to talk about the things that upset me about Dew/Champ/Blue because I do not condone the bullying and how they just glossed over it and made Blue get together with Dew at the end (also the rl age difference wasn't doing the story any favor).

This show also has all these problematic things that I apparently chose to forget while watching it the first time and only remembered after rewatching a few episodes. Like all these very over-the-top support characters and, just in general, the amount of slapstick sound effects and cringy moments.

And the more I think about the 'Zol writing fanfiction thing', the more it bugs me. Zol writing fanfictions isn't the issues here, it's totally okay if she does that. But she is writing fanfictions about people in real life... (I mean, I guess she asked *some of them* for their permission sometimes?? Which is like the bare minimum but still). About Her Own Brother... And nobody...not a single soul found that at least a little bit weird??? Right.

Also, not to mention how effed up the whole Fighter/Tutor/Hwahwa situation is... This show tries to paint Tutor as a great friend who is a great friend and an angel but all the while he's in his room having a hot make-out session with his best friend's boyfriend.

Acting/Cast: It was fascinating to see Saint in a role that was so different from his previous one (Pete in Love By Chance). For the others, I have to say that I adored Jimmy and Tommy's chemistry, which had a very innocent and sweet vibe and managed to carry the over-the-top comedic duo into a semi-serious relationship. Zee and Saint had fantastic chemistry as well. The producers hit the nail on the head with them. Perfect choice.

Music: Actually, I've watched this show like two years ago, and I don't remember a single song or background music that impacted me in any way, so I can't say anything about it... which isn't a good thing; I guess? But also not super bad because bad and annoying music stick with me as well. So, I think the music was meh. But what I do remember is the absolute insane amount of slapstick soundeffects, they were driving me nuts. At some point I turned the volume off.

Cinematography for the first episode was great that I felt like I was watching a movie. That set the bar high for me but the story started becoming a bit of a cliche. I thought that the story would be different from other BL series because it had to incorporate a "comic novel" theme in their story line but it was only used in the beginning of the series. I know that the production and shoot got affected by COVID 19 that's why it feels a bit rushed in the mid sequence and the story lacked the unique quality most viewers were expecting. For most parts, they had to fill the episodes with love scenes from Tutor and Fight which might excite some viewers but for me it was too much screen time for a "make love" scene. Honestly what made me finish the series was my fascination with Saifah and Zon's character development which was quite refreshing to watch. I also find that there are too many side characters that just felt irrelevant for giving them random scenes that strayed far from the original story. So many characters were introduced and just disappeared midway but if they decide on a second season, I hope they can juat focus on the main characters.

Not the best, but good enough...

To be completely honest, this show is an utter mess. Like it cannot get any messier even if it wants to. The editing, especially, was so bad, I was cringing.

But I give this show an 8.5 just because of the four main leads. Their acting and on-screen chemistry is one of the best I've seen. Especially Zee and Saint's. These two people just saved the show for me.

In the beginning, the series was actually quite interesting. It had a proper plot that kind of did hook me on and the script wasn't bad. But as it went on, it all went downhill. Then I read somewhere that they had to stop shooting for a while because of the pandemic and it all made sense. I'm just glad that they didn't discontinue the show and gave us an ending.

Overall, if you are looking for a proper BL series to watch and don't care much about the story, this is definitely a great watch and you must give it a try.

Really enjoyable

Before watching this I saw bad reviews but I still wanted to watch it because of Saint and I don’t regret anything, It was great!

Okay, I have to admit it, the plot and the story is not very good. In general, it’s kind of ridiculous and exaggerated also there’s not a complete development but, I found the acting excellent and also the boys are very good-looking so overall, it was pretty good and enjoyable.

I was fascinated with Tutor and Fighter’s relationship, definitely is the best part of the show. It’s very cute, sexy and funny, and their acting was great! The chemistry between Saint and Zee is amazing, heart-touching and beautiful. I was completely captivated.

The other couples, well… they didn’t have enough development, so they were just okay. I mean, I didn’t get bored at any moment but for me they were mostly irrelevant. The main couple was clearly TutorFighter’s relationship.

Another thing I liked was the OST, at first I didn’t find it that good but later I was loving the songs and after finishing the drama I needed to listen to them. They’re all right.

If you enjoy BL dramas that don’t have so much development, and don’t care about if the plot lacks of seriousness and deep meanings, instead is mostly funny and a little ridiculous then you should definitely watch this.

I would recommend it for mere BL entertainment haha and I repeat it, the cast is very good-looking and attractive!

Mainly the plot holes

Ook now I don't know, simply don't know what to say.. See, this story I guess it made me confused atleast I can say... The main perspective what I do get from this story, is the story good amazing ?? I would absolutely say no..I don't know the, whole storyline fucking seems a amateur..I don't know if the writers thought to carry out this plot line only, or due to the covid situation it became like that? Or originally it was as it is...I can't comprehend...If someone is looking for a great storyline or a good plot line to watch..Then I won't think it will fit in ur criteria, for people like me, who want storyline to be great ..But if u guys are just wanting to watch some story, or rather ur bored and want to binge watch then I can recommend this..And I generally feel why are you series, seriously had a lot of potential to carry the show well...I guess somehow I feel the covid situation did something, or if the writers planned to carry the storyline like this only .Then I guess the writers should have worked hard for it..Just leaving the steamy romance between the leads there was nothing that my heart will go crazy ..Apart from the steamy romance, hot kisses between the leads ..And I guess those who are wanting to watch some hot sizzling romance only; not the storyline then please go for it..This is the one u are waiting for... Because I remember every episode there is are kiss scenes between the leads. And thier chemistry no doubt such passionate..Where only seeing those scenes I was laughing inside and just hiding my phone..Zee ( fighter) totally has a different aura ..I know people like saint( tutor).. But simply I couldn't connect with tutor as much as I felt connected to fighter... Zee was damn perfect man...For me in this steamy romance , zee 's intense looks just the way he looks in the eyes of Saint . He stole the limelight...Totally I swear I can't get enough...Zee I can say stole my heart from this drama with his intense level of acting ..Damn a perfect actor...And fighter really I feel is a powerful top..Well one thing about this drama, we didn't have only the stereotype of one being the top and other being the bottom..As far both, tutor and fighter reversed their roles very well..Sometimes fighter was the top then bottom , same with tutor..So I guess it looked cool . But still fighter has a different aura..He can be the most powerful top.. Saint too had his own charm and I won't deny that..but it didn't appealed to me as much , zee caught my attention. The total how zee portrayed fighters character ; I think I got another crush ..Damn his looks ,body, intense gazes..totally a different vibe tho.The chemistry the romance between the leads, tutor and fighter is no joke..Bed scenes, sex scenes, kisses ; I guess u will find it in each episode like that..And I totally noticed that after from episode 5 , there was not a single episode where they didn't have this passionate kisses.. Each episode had a kiss that's to whole new level for me.. Becoz I have seen many bls where kiss scenes maybe one or two, and the romance no saying about that..But this surpassed that. And how their first night, together when they actually had sex** that whole setting , acting of the actors was phenomenal..My jaw dropped literally seeing that level of intimacy...I couldn't even comprehend where they really acting or were simply in love so much that they were doing that**..Kudos to the actors who acted so well, saint and zee were totally perfect..And now after watching the show I can't imagine anybody else except these two portraying such a passionate romance....I guess that's the only thing I can tell about the story, of breath taking romance... Apart from that the storyline still sucks for me..there was no concrete story line, which will make u smile whole heartedly...If people like me , who with romance + great storyline want to watch a drama..This is definitely not the one for you...But leaving the bad plot line if only u want to watch a drama for passionate romance...Go for it guys...And I'm not the type, becoz I got to see such amazing chemistry between the leads I'm gonna review it 10..still it will be 5 stars only .. Because simply I can't...The story totally looked hapazard to me..And as I guess there was much story to the side characters too .But due to the covid situation they didn't show us proper story of other characters... That's the first thing...And totally I didn't like the second lead couple story to be cut off, the channel made a seperate 3 episode story for saifah and zon..which should have been included here..but due to covid the production shot this later...and yes now it totally looked bad to me. Because if the second leads story have been included in the whole drama why are you series then it have been good but can't do anything because of the the covid situation of that time. Tutor, fighter, saifah and zon ..these two couples are the main leads..And I guess till the part they showed saifah and zon story they had atleast a better storyline than the leads...And damn the the last episode really raised my hopes for saifah and zon's story... Really their kisses their sensual chemistry was something totally had a different vibe compared to tutor & fighter... And totally feel in love with them..If to say in simple words , the last episode was my most favourite from the entire series...Saifah and zon, Tutor & fighter all together in the beach..and their bickering moments , the steamy romance between Saifah & zon..I wish I could have got to see more of these two apart from the main couple..that would have been great... People thinking where these two characters story there? There is a additional 3 episodes story of these two Saifah and zon story ..u can watch that too..That story takes place before all these two couples want to beach in the last episode of why are you series..That missed storyline was made into a 3 episodes..And I'm seperately not going to write a review for that...so I thought of saying that over here.. There is something in zon and saifah story in the last episode, when they actually had their first time .. The emotions portrayed by both was so real..Zon when he tells that he will only give his first time to saifah and damn that kisses, that tongue to tongue kisses I can't..There my heart really had an explosion.. Simply the tears rolled down zon cheeks after saying that line for having his **first with saifah ..Such pure and how much in love they are ...It showed very well. And I wouldn't mind if in future these two being the leads for another bl drama and as a couple..I will definitely watch it..Acting is totally top notch...Not even about only zon and saifah but tutor and fighter they too...How much I deny the storyline is hapazard.. but the acting of Saint and zee was phenomenal.. similarly Tommy and Jimmy ( Saifah & zon).. Rest coming to the side characters, I totally can't relate to them..as I said think, there was much story of the side characters too, but i guess it was not included in the drama due to covid .But still the part the other characters story was shown..It was really really good..I guess zon sister was the one cheerful character, without her the story wouldn't exist..Like her apart from many others...That's all I can say about why are you!! So it's up to you how u feel about it .It's totally my opinion...And definitely I will tell if it need's a re-watch value, then I guess I'm not watching it.. except if I fell like only watching the romance part between the two couples. That's totally my opinion though.. Those who hadn't watched atleast u can get a idea what I feel..

WHY R U HONEST REVIEW

This drama is quite good I finished it in less then 2 days. The only problem I found was the drama is well written but also very hard to understand at some parts. Like all dramas for me the side couper (saifah and zon) stood out the most too me with a cute plot twist. I really enjoyed this show but while watching the episodes on YouTube I experienced some problem with the sound because of copyright which I thought was quite unfortunate since the songs and background music usually adds a certain vibe and emotion too the show. It was also quite fun too see saint in this new light, his acting was amazing as always and I think his acting has gotten way better. Overall I think this show is a 7/10 and I would definitely rewatch this show.

Why R U Is Enough For Fans To Hang Onto

So 'Why R U' is considered by many to be the BL golden child of television and I can see why to a point. It's clearly got a bigger budget shown by its multiple sets, good camerawork and pretty large cast. This show did surprise me in some ways and disappoint me in others. It's not perfect, but it was enjoyable enough to watch! The overall plot is a tad confusing at first with the whole "are we in an actual BL novel?" plot, though it kinda just straightens out after awhile. We have a meh main couple (and strong side couple) whom do have a lot of chemistry, especially later on in the season dear god. Which I kinda appreciate because they didn't shy away from the obvious tension that was built up between our main characters.

The story itself was pretty good, I liked that the girl character wasn't used as just a sort-of boundary between Tutor and Fighter. She actually had a story-line and ends up happy which was cute. Also Tutor is an interesting character enough on his own, though Fighter was super meh or eww to me. Either frustrating or boring at first to be honest because he got very little depth given to him. However, I actually ended up preferring our side/secondary couple Zon/Sai over the main though! They were so adorable and so freaking funny, like holy crap I was in tears at their scenes the panic was real! We also must discuss that first kiss scene and the scene of their first time because it got me, both were really raw and emotional loved it. It totally sucks that they had their scenes cut short, BUT we get a side series of them to compensate so yay! Fighter's character again though I also had major issues with later on in the series, you probably know what scene I'm talking about already so by the end I disliked him completely. He's got this victim blaming attitude tbh by the end claiming Tutor is "making him crazy" or whatever and basically starting to assault him. He stops, but its super triggering and not okay at all. So that lessened my appeal for Tutor/Fighter overall even though it was already lacking.

Though I don't think the overall plot was as solid as one like TharnType that actually had me super emotionally invested, this one was enough for what it was worth. It could've done without some of the tropes that TharnType also had (to an extent) but weren't so dragged out and made more sense in that narrative where in this it was misplaced. We also didn't need the repeated clips of things happening and constant close-ups of abs lol. Finally, I wanted to say Tutor's sister in this stole my heart and I wanted to marry her straight up, also the bakery owner was amazing! Like literally just give me the Saifah X Zon scenes, scenes with the bakery owner and scenes with Tutors sister and best friend, the TharnType cameos then cut out everything else and we'll be golden for me XD

The actors have a great chemistry, especially SaintZee. It is not awkward at all. The story might be a mess and the ending is a hanger, hoping for a second season, but overall the acting bring the series up. Fresh faces can be seen in this series so it's a plus point because it's not usual to see them in a series and people will be curious about them. The female characters isn't cliche aswell, they are very lovable unlike female characters in other series that makes female characters so evil and homophobic. It tackles the importance of parent acceptance about the lgbt community though it wasn't resolve in a very great manner.

Poorly written didnt stick to the main plot!

Great actors .... Great chemistry.... poorly written and poorly executed! Not interested in the virus excuses because the flaws were there before the virus thing started .... like always just one person opinion!! They didnt stick to the main plot that was laid out in first episode of a sister writing a BL about her brother and then it starts to come true. This had potential to be a really funny BL but they took it on an entirely different direction. Long and boring but sexy scenes lol! Should be rewritten as a comedy and leaving out the couple they spent all their time on.
